Considering the limitations of terrain and engineering expenses, antislide piles are sometimes arranged in polylines. Studies show that this arrangement adversely affects the mechanical characteristics of antislide piles. However, there is no in-deep understanding of this issue and the structural design and calculation method of this arrangement have not been discussed in relevant standards. Aiming at resolving this shortcoming, the polylines pile arrangement is studied in this article to provide a scientific basis for designing and calculating antislide piles. To this end, the cantilever pile is taken as the research background, and the soil arching effect between piles is taken as the research object. Then the performances of the single-row polyline pile layout and straight line pile layout are analyzed in the Dawanjiang landslide and the results are verified from the aspects of the landslide reinforcement and the influence on the antislide pile structure. The obtained results show that the polyline pile layout is disadvantageous to the safety of the antislide pile structure, and the soil arch between piles under the polyline pile layout condition is not uniform. Meanwhile, it is found that as the polyline pile layout angle increases, the stress concentration appears at the “inflection point.” Under this circumstance, the soil arch between piles is not uniform, and the stress concentration intensifies.

Studies show that prestressed anchor cable antislide piles have good antiseismic characteristics. As an important parameter in the design of anchor-cable piles, the effect of anchor-cable inclination on the seismic response of the anchor-cable pile system has been rarely studied so far. In the present study, the seismic response characteristics of the anchor-pulled pile under different cable inclinations are studied using a large-scale seismic model test platform and numerical methods. The obtained results show that the inclined angle of the anchor cable has a great influence on the seismic response of the pile-anchor system. It is found that under the same seismic conditions, the axial force of the anchor cable becomes smaller as the anchor dip angle increases, while the pile top displacement becomes larger. The dynamic earth pressure behind the pile changes from the sliding surface to the pile top, indicating that the earth pressure near the sliding surface and the pile top is of active and passive earth pressure types, respectively. This pressure decreases with the increase of the anchor dip angle, thereby affecting the performance of the antisliding pile.

A slope is a complex engineering geological body that contains many uncertainties. In the present study, the high rock slope of Duimenshan in Gejiu, China is taken as the research object, and the Monte Carlo method is used to perform the analyses. Firstly, based on a large number of rock mass discontinuities, the Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) clustering algorithm is used to determine the dominant discontinuities. Secondly, the affecting parameters of the rock mass such as cohesion, internal friction angle, horizontal seismic acceleration coefficient, and water-filled depth coefficient are taken as random variables, and the failure probability of the slope and the failure index corresponding to different slope heights and slopes are obtained as the output parameter. The obtained results show that the target reliability index of the slope in a certain range of the slope height is far from the safety value, indicating that the slope is unstable, and the combination of slope height and slope angle affects the reliability of the slope. More specifically, as the slope height and angle increase, the number of samples with a stability coefficient of less than 1 increases, thereby increasing the failure probability of the slope indicating that the slope is stable. It is found that unless the slope height is small, it is the main factor of stability. However, when the slope height exceeds 33 m, the effect of the slope inclination on the stability increases gradually.

A software package, MRISim, for virtual magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data acquisition and image reconstruction was developed based on numerical simulation techniques. Virtual MRI data acquisition could be achieved through physical-mathematical modeling of the equipment and samples (i.e., phantom or human body). Image reconstruction of the virtual data was performed in the same manner as that in a real desktop MRI scanner. The software could also be applied for visualization of the features and causes of a variety of MRI artifacts, with the acquisition and processing parameters in the real experiments. MRISim was demonstrated as an efficient and reliable tool to conduct virtual MRI experiments, avoiding high expense of MRI training on real instruments.

The growth kinetics of aquatic worms was investigated from juvenile to decline phase for 18 weeks by cultivating with activated sludge in batch test. Results showed that the growth of aquatic worms well fit Gauss function for cultivating 18 weeks. The maximum specific growth rate, growth yield of aquatic worms and sludge reduction rate was 0.41 d(-1), 0.32 and 25.5%, respectively. When the concentration of substrate and dissolved oxygen change from low to high, the relationship between the specific growth rate with dissolved oxygen, and substrate concentration meet the Monod equation. Compared with the dissolved oxygen, the substrate concentration had greater effect on the specific growth rate of aquatic worms, and aquatic worms can live in the environment with low dissolved oxygen. Furthermore, the breath test showed the oxygen uptake rate of aquatic worms was almost 6.39, 10.10, 11.31 and 5.74 mg x (L x g x h)(-1) from juvenile to decline phase, the dissolved oxygen demand of the rapid growth and mature stage was higher than juvenile and decline phase.
