8. A method to obtain radioactivity of non-γnuclides by 60Co based on Monte Carlo simulations

Abstract

Source term investigation is a critically important aspect of reactor decommissioning, particularly as the range of nuclides under consideration expands beyond the capabilities of existing analysis methods. In this study, we try to propose a methodology to indirectly determine the radioactivity of long-lived nuclides which are non-γor low energy in various nuclear waste materials by measuring the radioactivity of 60Co. The critical point of this method is to establish relationship between some easy to measure (ETM) key nuclides, such as certain γemitters (like 60Co), and the difficult to measure (DTM) nuclides to derive information for the DTM nuclides of interest. To begin, we calculate nuclide bulk densities of 55Fe, 60Co, 63Ni and 152Eu in nuclear waste materials. By constructing inversion matrices and analyzing the intensity matrices of characteristic γlines emitted by 60Co, we can extract the radioactivity of non-γradionuclides (55Fe, 63Ni, and 152Eu) present in the nuclear waste materials that are contained within a specific container. Furthermore, our methodology accounts for the influence of voids within the container, thereby ensuring the reliability and validity of the obtained results. This innovative approach offers a promising avenue for efficiently sorting nuclear waste.

Abstract

A palladium‐catalyzed two‐fold annulation reaction of 2,6‐dihalogenobiphenyls with o‐chloroaromatic carboxylic acids has been developed. This method enables the synthesis of various dibenzo[fg,op]tetracenes and azadibenzo[fg,op]tetracenes. Preliminary investigations indicate that the resulting product, dimethyl 5,6,12,13‐tetrakis(hexyloxy)dibenzo[fg,op]tetracene‐2,9‐dicarboxylate, demonstrates favorable liquid‐crystalline properties. Abstract

We have performed high resolution angle-resolved photoemission measurements on superconducting electron-doped NaFe$_{0.95}$Co$_{0.05}$As ($T_{c}\sim$18 K). We observed a hole-like Fermi surface around the zone center and two electron-like Fermi surfaces around the M point which can be connected by the $Q=(\pi, \pi)$ wavevector, suggesting that scattering over the near-nested Fermi surfaces is important to the superconductivity of this "111" pnicitide. Nearly isotropic superconducting gaps with sharp coherent peaks are observed below $T_c$ on all three Fermi surfaces. Upon increasing temperature through $T_c$, the gap size shows little change while the coherence vanishes. Large ratios of $2\Delta/k_{B}T_{c}\sim8$ are observed for all the bands, indicating a strong coupling in this system. Abstract

We report herein the asymmetric total synthesis of periglaucines A–C, N,O‐dimethyloxostephine and oxostephabenine. The key strategies used include: 1) a RhI‐catalyzed regio‐ and diastereoselective Hayashi‐Miyaura reaction to connect two necessary fragments; 2) an intramolecular photoenolization/Diels–Alder (PEDA) reaction to construct the highly functionalized tricyclic core skeleton bearing a quaternary center; 3) a bio‐inspired intramolecular Michael addition and transannular acetalization to generate the aza[4.4.3]propellane and the tetrahydrofuran ring. Abstract

This paper presents an adaptive unequal loss protection (ULP) scheme for robust transmission of scalable video streaming over wireless networks. By jointly exploiting the temporal dependency between frames in a group of pictures (GOP) and the quality dependency between the scalable layers in each frame, the proposed scheme adaptively assigns unequal amount of forward error correction (FEC) codes across packets to each layer and adjusts the sending rate by dynamically selecting the number of layers to transmit, according to the available network bandwidth and the packet loss rate. To prevent the video transmission error propagation, an algorithm is developed to achieve efficient FEC assignment for the base layers in a GOP in the sense of minimizing the decoder distortion. The simulation results show that the proposed adaptive ULP scheme can provide better video quality under varying network conditions and can achieve more graceful degradation as packet loss increasing and available bandwidth decreasing. Abstract

We used angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy to reveal directly the momentum distribution of the superconducting gap in FeTe 1-xSe x, which has the simplest structure of all Fe-based superconductors. We found isotropic superconducting gaps on all Fermi surfaces whose sizes can be fitted by a single gap function derived from a strong coupling approach, promoting local antiferromagnetic exchange interactions as a serious candidate for the pairing origin. © 2012 American Physical Society.

Abstract

A novel approach towards 7b-aryl-indeno[1,2,3-jk]fluorene based on a nitrogen-containing core is reported. The acid-promoted Friedel–Crafts reaction of 9-(2-bromophenyl)-9-fluorenol with carbazole, triphenylamine or triindole afforded 9-(2-bromophenyl)fluorenyl-carbazole, -triphenylamine and -triindole derivatives, which were subsequently converted to 7b-aryl-fluoradenes viapalladium-catalyzed intramolecular C–H direct arylation as a key step.
