Context Distinguishing different types of diabetes is important in directing optimized treatment strategies and correlated epidemiological studies. Objective Through detailed analysis of hormone responses to mixed meal tolerance test (MMTT), we aimed to find representing characteristics of post-acute pancreatitis diabetes mellitus (PPDM-A) and post-chronic pancreatitis diabetes mellitus (PPDM-C). Methods Participants with PPDM-A, PPDM-C, type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and normal controls (NCs) underwent MMTT. Fasting and postprandial responses of serum glucose, C-peptide, insulin, glucagon, pancreatic polypeptide (PP), ghrelin, gastric inhibitory peptide (GIP), glucagon like peptide-1 (GLP-1), and peptide YY (PYY) were detected and compared among different groups. Focused analysis on calculated insulin sensitivity and secretion indices were performed to determine major causes of hyperglycemia in different conditions. Results Participants with PPDM-A were characterized by increased C-peptide, insulin, glucagon, and PP, but decreased ghrelin, GIP, and PYY compared with NCs. Patients with PPDM-C showed secretion insufficiency of C-peptide, insulin, ghrelin, and PYY, and higher postprandial responses of glucagon and PP than NCs. In particular, both fasting and postprandial levels of ghrelin in PPDM-C were significantly lower than other diabetes groups. PYY responses in patients with PPDM-A and PPDM-C were markedly reduced. Additionally, the insulin sensitivity of PPDM-A was decreased, and the insulin secretion for PPDM-C was decreased. Conclusion Along with the continuum from acute to chronic pancreatitis, the pathological mechanism of PPDM changes from insulin resistance to insulin deficiency. Insufficient PYY secretion is a promising diagnostic marker for distinguishing PPDM from type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Absent ghrelin secretion to MMTT may help identify PPDM-C. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) are vital nutrients in human physiology and are implicated in various chronic diseases. However, the relationship between PUFAs and gastric polyps remains unclear. This study employed liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) to assess PUFA levels in the serum of 350 patients, along with analyzing the ω-6 to ω-3 ratio. The results revealed significant differences in the levels of C16:1, C18:1, C18:2, α-C18:3, γ-C18:3, C20:1, C20:4, C20:5, ω-3-C22:5, ω-6-C22:5, and C22:6, as well as ω-6 to ω-3 ratio between the control and gasteic polyp groups. Moreover, setting the threshold for ω-6: ω-3 at 10 revealed a close correlation between polyp occurrence and this ratio. These findings suggest that PUFAs and the ω-6 to ω-3 ratio hold promise as potential early screening markers for gastric polyps. However, further research is imperative to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and therapeutic potential of PUFAs in managing gastric polyps. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Synthetic Aperture Ladar (SAL) is a sensor that combines laser detection technology with synthetic aperture technology to achieve ultra-high-resolution imaging. Due to its extremely short wavelength, SAL is more sensitive to motion errors. The micrometer-level motion will affect the target's azimuth focus. This article proposes an SAL motion compensation method based on Symmetric Triangular Linear Frequency Modulation Continuous Wave (STLFMCW) segmented interference, utilizing the characteristics of a triangular wave, to solve the problem of target azimuth defocusing. This article first establishes an STLFMCW echo signal model based on the SAL system under the influence of motion errors. Secondly, the radial velocity gradient along the azimuth direction is extracted using the triangular-wave-positive and -negative frequency modulation signals segmented interference method. Then, for the initial phase wrapping problem, the frequency spectral cross-correlation method is used to accurately estimate the initial radial velocity error. The radial velocity gradient is integrated along the azimuth to obtain the platform motion trajectory. Finally, the compensation functions are constructed to complete the echo Range Cell Migration (RCM) correction and residual phase compensation, resulting in a focused SAL image. This article verifies the practical effect of this method in eliminating motion errors using only one-period STLFMCW signal through simulation and real experiments. The quantitative results show that compared with the traditional method, the proposed method reduces the azimuth Peak Sidelobe Ratio (PSLR) by 8dB and the Integrated Sidelobe Ratio (ISLR) by 9 dB. Objective To explore the diagnostic value of peripheral blood NLR and PLR in gastrointestinal pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasm. Methods Blood cell analyzer was used to detect peripheral blood cell parameters of 95 cases pathologically diagnosed as GEP-NENs. NLR and PLR were calculated respectively, and 97 cases of chronic gastritis and 106 cases of healthy physical examination were taken as the control. ROC curve was used to analyze the diagnostic value of NLR/PLR for GEP-NENs and seek the cut-off value. We analyzed the relationship between NLR/PLR and clinicopathological features. Results (1) The values of NLR (2.51±1.32) and PLR (148.26±72.99) in GEP-NENs group were significantly higher than those in chronic gastritis group and control group(P < 0.01). (2) Area under the ROC curve for NLR and PLR were 0.674 and 0.671, the cut-off value were 2.24 and 156.85, the sensitivity were 48% and 41%, and the specificity were 86% and 89%, respectively. (3) There was no apparent correlation between NLR/PLR and pathological grade(P > 0.05). According to the cut-off value, the GEP-NENs patients were divided into high value group and low value group, the chi-square test results showed no correlation between NLR/PLR values and clinicopathological parameters of GEP-NENs patients (P > 0.05). Conclusion Peripheral blood NLR and PLR values are significantly increased in GEP-NENs patients, however, the diagnostic accuracy and positive rate of GEP-NENs are relatively low, without significant correlation with the severity or progression of disease.
