2. Plane Spiral OAM Mode-Group Based MIMO Communications: An Experimental Study

Abstract

Spatial division multiplexing using conventional orbital angular momentum (OAM) has become a well-known physical layer transmission method over the past decade. The mode-group (MG) superposed by specific single mode plane spiral OAM (PSOAM) waves has been proved to be a flexible beamforming method to achieve the azimuthal pattern diversity, which inherits the spiral phase distribution of conventional OAM wave. Thus, it possesses both the beam directionality and vorticity. In this paper, it's the first time to show and verify novel PSOAM MG based multiple-in-multiple-out (MIMO) communication link (MG-MIMO) experimentally in a line-of-sight (LoS) scenario. A compact multi-mode PSOAM antenna is demonstrated experimentally to generate multiple independent controllable PSOAM waves, which can be used for constructing MGs. After several proof-of-principle tests, it has been verified that the beam directionality gain of MG can improve the receiving signal-to-noise (SNR) level in an actual system, meanwhile, the vorticity can provide another degree of freedom (DoF) to reduce the spatial correlation of MIMO system. Furthermore, a tentative long-distance transmission experiment operated at 10.2 GHz has been performed successfully at a distance of 50 m with a single-way spectrum efficiency of 3.7 bits/s/Hz/stream. The proposed MG-MIMO may have potential in the long-distance LoS back-haul scenario.

Abstract

In this paper, a practical discrete-time control method with adaptive image feature prediction for the image-based visual servoing (IBVS) scheme is presented. In the discrete-time IBVS inner-loop/outer-loop control architecture, the time delay caused by image capture and computation is noticed. Considering the dynamic characteristics of a 6-DOF manipulator velocity input system, we propose a linear dynamic model to describe the motion of a robot end effector. Furthermore, for better estimation of image features and smoothing of the robot's velocity input, we propose an adaptive image feature prediction method that employs past image feature data and real robot velocity data to adopt the prediction parameters. The experimental results on a 6-DOF robotic arm demonstrate that the proposed method can ensure system stability and accelerate system convergence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

12. Physical-layer communications using direct antenna modulation

Abstract

Conventional wireless communications could be threatened by an eavesdropper with a sufficiently sensitive receiver and unlimited computational resources, or may reach the channel capacity in the near future. Recent research into a new digital modulation technique termed Direct Antenna Modulation (DAM) shows that DAM is a potential solution to the aforementioned problems. Direction-dependency, which describes the manner of signal transmission, is the most important attribute of a DAM system. Direction-dependent transmission can provide extra protection from a physical-layer source against security attack. Various transmission schemes are discussed in this work, and it is shown that accurate demodulation can be prevented from eavesdropping in the following two scenarios: first, when the angular separation between eavesdropper and intended recipient is very small; second, when one or two eavesdropping directions are pre-known. In addition, DAM system can be configured to have extra channel resources by introducing space as an additional domain for multiplexing. With the technique of space multiplexing, the transmitter can send independent data streams towards multiple receivers located at various transmission directions simultaneously. An algorithmic method is also presented to provide space multiplexing with a relatively low system cost.

Abstract

Objective: For patients with advanced or metastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC), the dose of targeted agents was recommended in combination with immune checkpoint inhibitors. We performed a network meta‐analysis to describe a categorized safety ranking profile and assess the adaptability of the combination options of targeted agents. Methods: The targeted agents refer to vascular endothelial growth factor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (VEGF‐TKIs) and mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) inhibitors. Randomized controlled trials comparing these drugs were enrolled in a Bayesian model network meta‐analysis. Results: Nineteen clinical trials with 11 treatments and 10,615 patients were included. For grade ≥ 3 adverse events (AEs), compared with placebo, lenvatinib plus everolimus showed worse safety than all other treatments except for lenvatinib (placebo vs. OR 0.23, 95% CI 0.07–0.78). Everolimus was generally the safest agent (OR 1.23, 95% CI 0.50–3.14). Sorafenib arose the least renal AEs (placebo vs. OR 0.85, 95% CI 0.06–11.64), whereas lenvatinib plus everolimus had the highest risk of renal toxicity (placebo vs. 0.17 95% CI 0.01–1.02). For gastrointestinal symptoms, everolimus was related to much lower toxicity than other agents. In the respiratory safety analysis, tivozanib (placebo vs. OR 0.15, 95% CI 0.07–0.31) and axitinib (OR 5.43, 95% CI 3.26–9.22) were the riskiest agents. In terms of hepatobiliary (placebo vs. OR 0.44, 95% CI 0.09–2.10) and hemotoxicity (placebo vs. OR 1.03, 95% CI 0.14–7.68) related AEs, lenvatinib was found to be the safest treatment compared to placebo. Conclusions: Everolimus, with the best safety of grade ≥ 3, gastrointestinal, and respiratory AEs, was more likely to be considered for combination therapies. Lenvatinib appears to be the safest for blood/lymphatic and hepatobiliary AEs. For patients with renal disorders, sorafenib arises the least renal toxicity AEs. Abstract

Numerous prostate cancer (PC) associated genes have been reported in previous genome-wide association studies. Elucidation of prostate cancer pharmacogenomics have enhanced studies into the impact of germline genetic changes on treatment, in addition to evaluating related genomic alterations and biomarkers in prostate tumor tissues. Currently, Abiraterone (Abi) is used as one of the therapeutic options for PC. In this article, germline variants that have been associated with responses to Abi in patients with advanced PC are summarized. These include biomarker genes such as CYP17A1, AR-V7, HSD3B1, SLCO2B1, SULT1E1, and SRD5A2 that are involved in homologous recombination, as well as in gene expression mutations in important signaling pathways, such as WNT and Abi metabolic pathways.

Abstract

Objectives: Metastatic renal cell carcinoma can occur synchronously or metachronously. We characterized the time from diagnosis to systematic therapy as a categorical variable to analyze its effect on the overall survival and first‐line treatment efficacy of metastatic renal cell carcinoma patients. Methods: We initially enrolled 949 consecutive metastatic renal cell carcinoma patients treated with targeted therapies retrospectively from December 2005 to December 2019. X‐tile analysis was used to determine cut‐off values of time from diagnosis to systematic therapy referring to overall survival. Patients were divided into different groups based on the time from diagnosis to systematic therapy and then analyzed for survival. Results: Of 358 eligible patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma, 125 (34.9%) had synchronous metastases followed by cytoreductive nephrectomy, and 233 (65.1%) had metachronous metastases. A total of 28 patients received complete metastasectomy. Three optimal cut‐off values for the time from diagnosis to systematic therapy (months) – 1.1, 7.0 and 35.9 – were applied to divide the population into four groups: the synchro group (time from diagnosis to systematic therapy ≤1.0), early group (1.0 < time from diagnosis to systematic therapy ≤ 7.0), intermediate group (7.0 < time from diagnosis to systematic therapy < 36.0) and late group (time from diagnosis to systematic therapy ≥36.0). The targeted therapy‐related overall survival (P < 0.001) and progression‐free survival (P < 0.001) values were significantly different among the four groups. Patients with longer time from diagnosis to systematic therapy had better prognoses and promising efficacy of targeted therapy. With the prolongation of time from diagnosis to systematic therapy, complete metastasectomy was more likely to achieve and bring a better prognosis. Conclusions: The time from diagnosis to systematic therapy impacts the survival of metastatic renal cell carcinoma patients treated with targeted therapy. The cutoff points of 1, 7 and 36 months were statistically significant. The statistical boundaries might be valuable in future model establishment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
