2. Signatures of Chiral Superconductivity in Rhombohedral Graphene

Abstract

Chiral superconductors are unconventional superconducting states that break time reversal symmetry spontaneously and typically feature Cooper pairing at non-zero angular momentum. Such states may host Majorana fermions and provide an important platform for topological physics research and fault-tolerant quantum computing. Despite of intensive search and prolonged studies of several candidate systems, chiral superconductivity has remained elusive so far. Here we report the discovery of unconventional superconductivity in rhombohedral tetra-layer graphene. We observed two superconducting states in the gate-induced flat conduction bands with Tc up to 300 mK and charge density ne as low as 2.4*1011 cm-2, appearing robustly in three different devices, where electrons reside close to a proximate WSe2 layer, far away from WSe2, and in the absence of WSe2 respectively. Spontaneous time-reversal-symmetry-breaking (TRSB) due to electron's orbital motion is found, and several observations indicate the chiral nature of these superconducting states, including 1. In the superconducting state, Rxx shows fluctuations at zero magnetic field and magnetic hysteresis versus an out-of-plane magnetic field B, which are absent from all other superconductors; 2. one superconducting state develops within a spin- and valley-polarized quarter-metal phase, and is robust against the neighboring spin-valley-polarized quarter-metal state under B; 3. the normal states show anomalous Hall signals at zero magnetic field and magnetic hysteresis. We also observed a critical B > 0.9 Tesla, higher than any graphene superconductivity reported so far and indicates a strong-coupling superconductivity close the BCS-BEC crossover. Our observations establish a pure carbon material for the study of topological superconductivity, and pave the way to explore Majorana modes and topological quantum computing.

Abstract

In previous studies, code-based models have consistently outperformed text-based models in reasoning-intensive scenarios. When generating our knowledge base for Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), we observed that code-based models also perform exceptionally well in Chinese QA Pair Extraction task. Further, our experiments and the metrics we designed discovered that code-based models containing a certain amount of Chinese data achieve even better performance. Additionally, the capabilities of code-based English models in specified Chinese tasks offer a distinct perspective for discussion on the philosophical "Chinese Room" thought experiment.

Abstract

The grid connection guidelines require wind turbines to have capability to quickly support reactive power in the events of grid faults. However, traditional proportional-integral controllers have the problems of slow transient response and poor adaptability dealing with changes in grid impedance and serious model disturbances. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes an improved reactive power support control strategy which combines linear active disturbance rejection control(ADRC) with least error squares(LES) filters. The LES filter is used to quickly and accurately detect the amplitude of the fault grid voltage with background harmonics, which can effectively reduce the fault detection delay. The ADRC controller is used to effectively improve the transient reactive power response speed and the control adaptability and robustness of the wind turbines under grid impedance disturbance. The simulation model of direct drive wind turbine based on PSCAD/EMTDC is built considering two scenarios, weak power grid and power grid with background harmonics. The effectiveness of the proposed control strategy is verified by simulation.

15. Surgical treatment of depressed fracture of skull in neonates

Abstract

Objective To explore the surgical treatment of depressed fracture of skull in neonates. Methods and Results Eight neonates with depressed fracture of skull who underwent surgery in Children's Hospital Affiliated to Shandong University from January 2021 to December 2023 were included, and all of them underwent CT thin-slice scan + 3D reconstruction of skull before surgery. According to the location, extent and depth of the depression, the depressed edge was drilled and the depressed skull was reduced by bone pry (3 cases). The depressed skull collapsed again after the bone was pried up, the skin incision was extended to reveal the depressed area, and the shaped absorbable connector was fixed in the depressed area after prying up (2 cases). Blunt separation of the skull and dura mater at the lateral corner of the anterior fontanelle, and deep bone pry to pry up the depressed skull for reduction (one case). The skull and dura mater were bluntly separated from the coronal suture at the edge of the depression, and the depressed skull was pried up and reduced by deep bone pry (2 cases). On the first day after surgery, the re- examination of CT thin-slice scan + 3D reconstruction of skull showed that the depression reduction was satisfactory. Spontaneous fracture healing was happened in one case with linear fractures; hemorrhage resorption spontaneously was happened in one case with epidural hematoma. The average follow-up was 6.80 months, and the re-examination of CT thin-slice scan + 3D reconstruction of skull showed that the skull development was normal and there was no re-depression. Conclusions Immediate reduction of depressed fracture of skull can be achieved with surgery, and for fractures close to the anterior fontanelle or suture, the depression can be prying up through the lateral angle of the anterior fontanelle or the unclosed suture, which is more minimally invasive.

Abstract

When an ionic crystal dissolves in solvent, the positive and negative ions associated with solvent molecules release from the crystal. However, the existing form, interaction, and dynamics of ions in real solution are poorly understood because of the substantial experimental challenge. We observed the diffusion and aggregation of polyoxometalate (POM) ions in water by using liquid phase transmission electron microscopy. Real-time observation reveals an unexpected local reciprocating hopping motion of the ions in water, which may be caused by the short-range polymerized bridge of water molecules. We find that ion oligomers, existing as highly active clusters, undergo frequent splitting, aggregation, and rearrangement in dilute solution. The formation and dissociation of ion oligomers indicate a weak counterion-mediated interaction. Furthermore, POM ions with tetrahedral geometry show directional interaction compared with spherical ions, which presents structure-dependent dynamics.

Abstract

The interplay between quantum interference, electron-electron interaction (EEI), and disorder is one of the central themes of condensed matter physics. Such interplay can cause high-order magnetoconductance (MC) corrections in semiconductors with weak spin-orbit coupling (SOC). However, it remains unexplored how the magnetotransport properties are modified by the high-order quantum corrections in the electron systems of symplectic symmetry class, which include topological insulators (TIs), Weyl semimetals, graphene with negligible intervalley scattering, and semiconductors with strong SOC. Here, we extend the theory of quantum conductance corrections to two-dimensional electron systems with the symplectic symmetry, and study experimentally such physics with dual-gated TI devices in which the transport is dominated by highly tunable surface states. We find that the MC can be enhanced significantly by the second-order interference and the EEI effects, in contrast to suppression of MC for the systems with orthogonal symmetry. Our work reveals that detailed MC analysis can provide deep insights into the complex electronic processes in TIs, such as the screening and dephasing effects of localized charge puddles, as well as the related particle-hole asymmetry., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

Abstract

All van der Waals (vdW) Fe3GeTe2/Cr2Ge2Te6/graphite magnetic heterojunctions have been fabricated via mechanical exfoliation and stacking, and their magnetotransport properties are studied in detail. At low bias voltages large negative junction magnetoresistances have been observed and are attributed to spin-conserving tunneling transport across the insulating Cr2Ge2Te6 layer. With increasing bias, a crossover to Fowler-Nordheim tunneling takes place. The negative sign of the tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) suggests that the bottom of conduction band in Cr2Ge2Te6 belongs to minority spins, opposite to the findings of some first-principles calculations. This work shows that the vdW heterostructures based on 2D magnetic insulators are a valuable platform to gain further insight into spin polarized tunneling transport, which is the basis for pursuing high performance spintronic devices and a large variety of quantum phenomena., Comment: 17 pages, 4 figures. Abstract

Oxygen redox at high voltage has emerged as a transformative paradigm for high-energy battery cathodes such as layered transition-metal oxides by offering extra capacity beyond conventional transition-metal redox. However, these cathodes suffer from voltage hysteresis, voltage fade and capacity drop upon cycling. Single-crystalline cathodes have recently shown some improvements, but these challenges remain. Here we reveal the fundamental origin of oxygen redox instability to be from the domain boundaries that are present in single-crystalline cathode particles. By investigating single-crystalline cathodes with different domain boundaries structures, we show that the elimination of domain boundaries enhances the reversible lattice oxygen redox while inhibiting the irreversible oxygen release. This leads to significantly suppressed structural degradation and improved mechanical integrity during battery cycling and abuse heating. The robust oxygen redox enabled through domain boundary control provides practical opportunities towards high-energy, long-cycling, safe batteries.
