Abstract Background Inhibition of 5-HT3 (5-Hydroxyl Tryptamine) receptors is known to enhance morphine analgesia in animal models. We tested the efficacy of azasetron, a 5-HT3 receptor antagonist, on postoperative chronic pain after pulmonary surgery in a randomized triple-blind controlled study. Methods A total of 250 patients who were scheduled to receive pulmonary surgery were randomized to patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) using 200 µg sufentanil with normal saline or 200 µg sufentanil with 20 mg azasetron. The numerical rating scale of pain (NRS) was recorded at baseline, postoperative day (POD) 1, 2, 3, 90, and 180. Negative binomial regression was used to identify associated factors for postoperative NRS six months after surgery. Results The results showed that azasetron did not affect the primary outcomes: the incidence of postoperative chronic pain on POD90 and 180. However, azasetron decreased postoperative NRS at rest and activity on POD1, 2, and 3. Furthermore, azasetron decreased postoperative nausea and vomiting on POD1 and 2. Univariate and multivariate negative binomial regression analysis identified preoperative pain, smoking, drinking and open surgery are risk factors of chronic pain six months after surgery. Conclusions Azasetron did not affect the incidence of chronic pain after pulmonary surgery. The presence of preoperative pain, smoking, drinking, and open surgery were found to be associated with chronic pain six months after surgery. Abstract The use of intraoperative sub-anesthetic esketamine for postoperative analgesia is controversial. In this study, the impact of sub-anesthetic esketamine on postoperative opioid self-administration was determined. Patients who underwent spinal surgery with patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) from January 2019 to December 2021 were respectively screened for analysis. Postoperative PCA was compared between patients who received a sub-anesthetic esketamine dose and patients who were not treated with esketamine (non-esketamine group) with or without propensity score matching. Negative binomial regression analysis was used to identify factors associated with postoperative PCA. Patients who received intraoperative sub-anesthetic esketamine self-administered less PCA (P = 0.001). Azasetron, esketamine, and dexamethasone lowered the self-administration of PCA (IRR with 95% confidential interval, 0.789 [0.624, 0.993]; 0.581 [0.458, 0.741]; and 0.777 [0.627, 0.959], respectively). Fixation surgery and drinking were risk factors for postoperative PCA (1.737 [1.373, 2.188] and 1.332 [1.032, 1.737] for fixation surgery and drinking, respectively). An intraoperative sub-anesthetic dose of esketamine decreases postoperative opioid self-administration. Azasetron and dexamethasone also decrease postoperative opioid consumption. Abstract. Introduction:. Postoperative rebound pain after peripheral nerve block increases patient suffering and delays recovery after surgery. Objectives:. We tested whether the 5HT-3 receptor antagonist and α7nAChR agonist tropisetron could prevent postoperative rebound pain. Methods:. A total of 115 patients were randomized to receive 5-mg/5-mL tropisetron or the same volume of normal saline. Pain intensity was measured with the numerical rating scale of pain (NRS). Rebound pain was defined as a change from mild pain (NRS ≤ 3) measured in the postanesthesia care unit to severe pain (NRS ≥ 7) within 24 hours after peripheral nerve blockade. Logistic regression was used to identify relevant factors associated with postoperative rebound pain. Results:. Tropisetron did not affect the NRS score or the incidence of rebound pain after peripheral nerve block. Logistic regression revealed that preoperative pain, bone surgery, and length of incision were risk factors for postoperative rebound pain, and patient-controlled analgesia was protective against postoperative rebound pain. Conclusion:. Tropisetron does not affect the incidence of rebound pain after peripheral nerve block. Patients at high risk of postoperative rebound pain should be identified for appropriate management. Registration site: www.chictr.org.cn (ChiCTR2300069994).

Prohibited additives in infant formula severely affect the health of infants. Terahertz (THz) spectroscopy has enormous application potential in analyte detection due to its rich fingerprint information content. However, there is limited research on the mixtures of multiple analytes. In this study, we propose a split ring metasurface that supports magnetic dipole bound states in the continuum (BIC). By breaking the symmetry, quasi-BIC with a high quality (Q) factor can be generated. Utilizing an angle-scanning strategy, the frequency of the resonance dip can be shifted, resulting in the plotting of an envelope curve which can reflect the molecular fingerprint of the analytes. Two prohibited additives found in infant formula, melamine and vanillin, can be identified in different proportions. Furthermore, a metric similar to the resolution in chromatographic analysis is introduced and calculated to be 0.61, indicating that these two additives can be detected simultaneously. Our research provides a new solution for detecting additives in infant formula.

Spectroscopy is a powerful tool to identify the specific fingerprints of analytes in a label-free way. However, conventional sensing methods face unavoidable barriers in analyzing trace-amount target molecules due to the difficulties of enhancing the broadband molecular absorption. Here, we propose a sensing scheme to achieve strong fingerprint absorption based on the angular-scanning strategy on an all-silicon metasurface. By integrating the mid-infrared and terahertz sensing units into a single metasurface, the sensor can efficiently identify 2,4-DNT with high sensitivity. The results reveal that the fingerprint peak in the enhanced fingerprint spectrum is formed by the linked envelope. It exhibits a significant enhancement factor exceeding 64-fold in the terahertz region and more than 55-fold in the mid-infrared region. Particularly, the corresponding identification limit of 2,4-DNT is 1.32 µg cm−2, respectively. Our study will provide a novel research idea in identifying trace-amount explosives and advance practical applications of absorption spectroscopy enhancement identification in civil and military security industries.

Abstract This study discusses the integrated system of full‐duplex (FD) multiple‐input‐multiple‐output (MIMO) communication and MIMO radar, which has been rarely considered in published studies. Such an integrated system is composed of a base station and several uplink (UL) and downlink (DL) users, and is supposed to simultaneously implement three functionalities, that is, target detection, UL and DL communications. The degrees of freedom of system design involve the precoding and combining schemes for UL and DL communications, as well as the receiving filter for radar echo. An optimization problem is developed to maximise a compound communication sum‐rate metric subject to the SINR constraint imposed on target detection performance. The resulted non‐convex and NP‐hard problem is first divided into two sub‐problems. Then, for one of the sub‐problems that is still intractable, its solution is iteratively obtained based on the fractional programing technique and the consensus alternating direction method of multipliers algorithm. In the simulation part, the convergence performance and computational efficiency of the proposed algorithm are illustrated. In addition, the target detection performance, DL and UL communication performance of the integrated system are also evaluated.

Automatic modulation classification (AMC) plays a crucial role in wireless communication by identifying the modulation scheme of received signals, bridging signal reception and demodulation. Its main challenge lies in performing accurate signal processing without prior information. While deep learning has been applied to AMC, its effectiveness largely depends on the availability of labeled samples. To address the scarcity of labeled data, we introduce a novel semi-supervised AMC approach combining consistency regularization and pseudo-labeling. This method capitalizes on the inherent data distribution of unlabeled data to supplement the limited labeled data. Our approach involves a dual-component objective function for model training: one part focuses on the loss from labeled data, while the other addresses the regularized loss for unlabeled data, enhanced through two distinct levels of data augmentation. These combined losses concurrently refine the model parameters. Our method demonstrates superior performance over established benchmark algorithms, such as decision trees (DTs), support vector machines (SVMs), pi-models, and virtual adversarial training (VAT). It exhibits a marked improvement in the recognition accuracy, particularly when the proportion of labeled samples is as low as 1–4%.

A massive volume of produced water (PW) generated in the process of oil extraction must be treated effectively due to its threat to the ecosystems and human health. Different biological treatment technologies have been used in wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) systems to treat PW. However, their influence on treatment performance has not been investigated. In this study, three PW treatment plants (PWTPs) with different treatment technologies were compared in the following aspects: microbial community structure and assembly, functional genes, and the spread of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). The results indicated that different biological treatment technologies led to the variations in the diversity and composition of the microbial community. Phylogenetic bin-based null model analysis (iCAMP) revealed that different treatment technologies deterministically drove the assembly of microbial communities, especially the genera associated with the removal of petroleum hydrocarbons. The results of the metagenomic analysis showed that the genes related to the degradation of alkanes and aromatic hydrocarbons were the most abundant in PWTP3, suggesting it had the highest petroleum degradation potential. In addition, the highest abundance of ARGs in PWTP1 indicated the potential facilitation of ARG dissemination in activated sludge systems. Network analysis indicated that the dissemination of ARGs in the PWTPs might be mediated by transposases.

In this paper, we propose a dual-mode frequency selective rasorber (FSR) with tunable transmission and absorption windows at the X-band, which shows a broad passband in each transmission window. The proposed tunable FSR consists of a lossy absorption layer, a lossless transmission layer, and an air gap between them. The top frequency selective surface (FSS) layer is a cross-shaped meandering line with resistors and varactors for tunable absorption, and the bottom layer is a cross-shaped gap with varactors to achieve tunable bandpass. The equivalent circuit model (ECM) is investigated, and the 3D full wave simulation is performed. The results are based on simulations, and the simulation results show that the passband can be tuned from 12 to 8 GHz with an insertion loss between 0.5 and 1.4 dB by sweeping the capacitance of the varactors. The proposed design decreases the chances of detection by adversary devices and assures spectrum-safe communication, thereby creating new avenues for radar stealth and target concealment.

BackgroundBlood-derived exosomes are involved in developing multiple pathological processes, with platelets being the most well-known source. Related studies have become an area of research with significant value and potential. However, no bibliometric studies in this field have yet been identified. We aimed to analyze the hotspots and academic trends of platelet exosome research through bibliometric visualization to actively grasp the research base in this field and track its developmental orientation.MethodsFrom 2000 to 2022, we screened all relevant publications on platelet exosome-related research from the Web of Science database, generated knowledge maps using VOSviewer and CiteSpace software, and analyzed research trends in the field.ResultsA total of 722 articles were screened for inclusion based on the search strategy. The number of articles on exosome studies in platelets has expanded vastly. The USA and the People’s Republic of China contributed substantially among 69 countries or regions. Amsterdam University and Semmelweis University are the research institutions with the most publications. The most studied and co-cited journals were the International Journal of Molecular Sciences and the Journal of Extracellular Vesicles. We identified 4,598 authors, with Nieuwland Rienk having the highest number of articles and Bruno Stefania having the most cited publications. Keywords of great interest include “thrombosis,” “anti-inflammatory,” “anti-apoptosis,” “angiogenesis,” “microparticles,” “miRNAs,” “stem cells,” and “biomarkers,” which are key research areas for future development.ConclusionWe used bibliometric and visualization methods to identify hotspots and trends in platelet exosome research. Platelet exosome research is widely expanding. Future research will most likely focus on “thrombosis,” “anti-inflammatory,” “anti-apoptosis,” “angiogenesis,” “microparticles,” “miRNAs,” “stem cells,” and “biomarkers.”

IntroductionThe Shenqisuxin granule (SQSX), a novel Chinese herbal formula, has the effect of preventing in-stent restenosis and improving angiogenesis. We intend to evaluate the efficacy and safety of SQSX to provide a possible therapeutic strategy for complex coronary artery disease (CCAD) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).Methods/designThe study is a multi-center, randomized, double-blinded, parallel, placebo-controlled trial. A total of 120 participants will be randomized 1:1 into the intervention group and the control group. Based on standardized treatment, the intervention group and control group will receive SQSX and placebo for 2 months, respectively. The primary outcomes, metabolic equivalents (METS) and peak oxygen uptake (Peak VO2), and the secondary outcomes, including other indicators of cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF), the European Quality of Life Questionnaire (EQ-5D-5L), the Seattle Angina Scale (SAQ), etc., will be assessed at baseline and 2 months ± 3 days. In addition, the survey scales will also be tested at 1 month ± 3 days. Trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), and gut microbiota features will be assessed at baseline and 2 months ± 3 days to probe possible mechanism. The major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCE) and bleeding events will be monitored until the 12-month follow-up.DiscussionThis study is launched to assess the efficacy and safety of SQSX in CCAD after PCI and probe the possible mechanism.Clinical trial registrationChina Clinical Trial Registry, ChiCTR2200060979, Registered on June 14, 2022.

Tunable structural color has gained significant attention due to its dynamic characteristics. However, conventional devices are usually regulated only in their color capabilities by structural parameters, restricting real-time dynamic applications. In this study, we propose an ultra-thin asymmetric Fabry–Perot cavity patterned with phase-change materials (MPMP). The reversible phase transition of VO2 induces changes in the MPMP’s optical performance, enabling color mode switching through temperature control and resulting in rapid color conversion and low-temperature regulation. By adjusting relevant structural parameters of the VO2 layer and nanodiscs, the color performance range can be tailored. Through numerical investigations, we demonstrate that MPMP can produce stable transformation of dynamic structural colors by harnessing the phase-change effect. Our research unveils new possibilities for applications such as anti-counterfeiting, bio/chemical sensing, and temperature sensing.

In this work, we demonstrate a novel structure that can generate extraordinary optical transmission with a silicon hemisphere placed on a conventional bull’s eye structure. There is a single subwavelength aperture surrounded by concentric periodic grooves on a substrate. The extraordinary optical transmission in this work is realized by the coupling of the surface plasmon polaritons in the periodic grooves and the localized electromagnetic field generated by the Mie resonance in the silicon hemisphere. The maximum normalized-to-area transmission peak can reach up to 662 with a decreasing device area and size. The electromagnetic field distribution at different geometry parameters is analyzed to clarify the mechanisms of the work in this paper. Additionally, the use of dielectric material in the aperture can avoid ohmic losses of metal material compared with the conventional one, which may suggest that a wider range of bull’s-eye-structure applications is possible.

As a powerful tool in scientific research and industrial technologies, the cold atom absolute gravity sensor (CAGS) based on cold atom interferometry has been proven to be the most promising new generation high-precision absolute gravity sensor. However, large size, heavy weight, and high–power consumption are still the main restriction factors of CAGS being applied for practical applications on mobile platforms. Combined with cold atom chips, it is possible to drastically reduce the complexity, weight, and size of CAGS. In this review, we started from the basic theory of atom chips to chart a clear development path to related technologies. Several related technologies including micro-magnetic traps, micro magneto–optical traps, material selection, fabrication, and packaging methods have been discussed. This review gives an overview of the current developments in a variety of cold atom chips, and some actual CAGS systems based on atom chips are also discussed. We summarize by listing some of the challenges and possible directions for further development in this area.

IntroductionThe Chinese herbal compound formula, Shenqisuxin granule (SQSX), promotes neovascularization and prevents in-stent restenosis in modern pharmaceutical studies and is expected to provide an effective strategy for non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTEACS). Thus, this study aims to examine the efficacy and safety of SQSX for NSTEACS and initially reveal its mechanism.Methods/DesignThe study is a randomized, double-blinded and placebo-controlled trial. A total of 66 participants will be randomly allocated to one of the following two groups. Participants in the SQSX group will receive conventional treatment plus SQSX, while the placebo group will receive conventional treatment plus placebo, both for 14 days. The primary outcome, hs-CRP, and secondary outcome the Seattle Angina Questionnaire (SAQ) will be assessed at baseline, 7 ± 3 days and 14 ± 3 days. At all visit windows, other indicators including creatine kinase (CK), creatine kinase-myocardial band (CK-MB), cardiac troponins I (cTnI), 12-lead electrocardiograph and the syndrome scores of Qi deficiency and blood stasis will be tested and metagenomic sequencing for intestinal flora will be performed. Echocardiography and safety assessment will be performed at baseline and 14 ± 3 days. Abstract Background Emerging evidence indicates that metabolism reprogramming and abnormal acetylation modification play an important role in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) progression, although the mechanism is largely unknown. Methods Here, we used three public databases (Oncomine, Gene Expression Omnibus [GEO], The Cancer Genome Atlas [TCGA]) to analyze ESCO2 (establishment of cohesion 1 homolog 2) expression in LUAD. The biological function of ESCO2 was studiedusing cell proliferation, colony formation, cell migration, and invasion assays in vitro, and mouse xenograft models in vivo. ESCO2 interacting proteins were searched using gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) and mass spectrometry. Pyruvate kinase M1/2 (PKM) mRNA splicing assay was performed using RT-PCR together with restriction digestion. LUAD cell metabolism was studied using glucose uptake assays and lactate production. ESCO2 expression was significantly upregulated in LUAD tissues, and higher ESCO2 expression indicated worse prognosis for patients with LUAD. Results We found that ESCO2 promoted LUAD cell proliferation and metastasis metabolic reprogramming in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, ESCO2 increased hnRNPA1 (heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein A1) binding to the intronic sequences flanking exon 9 (EI9) of PKM mRNA by inhibiting hnRNPA1 nuclear translocation, eventually inhibiting PKM1 isoform formation and inducing PKM2 isoform formation. Conclusions Our findings confirm that ESCO2 is a key factor in promoting LUAD malignant progression and suggest that it is a new target for treating LUAD.

Phased array over-the-horizon (OTH) radar usually needs to detect sea target and airborne target in different directions. Conventionally, the sea target and airborne target are detected sequentially with the coherent integration completely accomplished for each of them. However, the long coherent integration time (CIT) required by the sea target makes the time interval between two airborne target detections too long, which is not conducive to tracking airborne target. To overcome this problem, this paper proposes a new timeframe multiplexing scheme, in which several short-time detections of airborne target are inserted into a long CIT of sea target detection. The proposed scheme seeks to improve the detection frequency of airborne target while ensuring the detection performance of two types of target. However, due to the insertion of airborne target detection, the echo from sea surface is received discontinuously which means that the coherent integration of sea target is incomplete. To tackle it, a recovery algorithm based on the Hankel structured matrix is introduced, which recovers the slow-time domain signal of each range bin and thereby guarantees the detection performance of sea target not damaged. Numerical simulations prove the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm for signal recovery, and also verify that the proposed operating scheme has a shorter time interval for airborne target detection, while the detection performance of two targets are well guaranteed.

This paper presents a structure for refractive index sensors in the terahertz (THz) band. The THZ sensor is studied in simulation, utilizing the strong local electromagnetic field intensity produced by the enhanced extraordinary optical transmission. Depending on the different sensing positions of the sensor, their sensing basis is also different, such as Mie scattering, surface plasmon polaritons, etc. The sensing sensitivity based on Mie scattering can reach 51.56 GHz/RIU; meanwhile the sensing sensitivity based on surface plasmon polaritons is only 5.13 GHz/RIU. The sensor can also detect the thickness of the analyte, with the lowest detectable height of 0.2 µm. Additionally, we find that the sensitivity can be increased by replacing the silicon particle with the analyte.

In this work, a hemispheric gold particle is introduced to the conventional bull’s eye structure that enhances extraordinary optical transmission in the terahertz region. Transmission enhancement is a result of the coupling of surface plasmon polaritons generated by periodic grooves and localized surface plasmon resonances generated by the hemisphere particle. The maximum normalized-to-area transmission peak reaches 556 for the hemisphere-in-hole bull’s eye structure, which is significantly higher than conventional bull’s eye structure. Such a transmission property is insensitive to polarization direction. The physical mechanisms are thoroughly analyzed by geometric parameter optimization and electromagnetic simulations. The modified structure can reduce the number of grooves in need, thereby reducing the device area. This novel design can be instructive for future improvement of bull’s eye applications.

A recently isolated osmo-tolerant yeast Candida tropicalis A1, which could decolorize various azo dyes under high-salinity conditions, was systematically characterized in the present study. Stimulating dye-decolorization effectiveness and osmo-tolerance of the yeast by static magnetic field (SMF) was investigated and transcriptomic responses of the yeast to SMF was analyzed to propose possible mechanisms. The results demonstrated that the yeast A1 effectively decolorized (≥ 97.50% within 12 h) and detoxified (from high toxicity to low toxicity within 24 h) 70 mg/L Acid Red B (ARB) under the optimized conditions through a series of steps including naphthalene-amidine bond cleavage, reductive or oxidative deamination/desulfurization, open-loop of hydroxy-substituted naphthalene or benzene and TCA cycle. Moreover, dye decolorization performance and osmo-tolerance of the yeast A1 were further improved by 24.6 mT SMF. Genes encoding high-affinity hexose/glucose transporter proteins and NADH-ubiquinone oxidoreductase were up-regulated by 24.6 mT SMF, which might be responsible for the increase of dye decolorization. Significant up-regulation of glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase and cell wall protein RHD3 suggested that osmo-tolerance was enhanced by 24.6 mT SMF through promoting production and intracellular accumulation of glycerol as compatible solute, as well as regulation of cell wall component. In conclusion, 24.6 mT SMF led to the up-regulation of related genes resulting in enhanced dye biodegradation efficiency and osmo-tolerance of the yeast A1.

A halotolerant yeast, Pichia occidentalis A2, was recently isolated that can decolorize various azo dyes. The azo dye decolorization performance of this strain was characterized, including the degradation pathway and detoxification effects of this yeast. Additionally, the effect of static magnetic field (SMF) on this decolorization process was investigated. Activities of key enzymes were analyzed to estimate the change of metabolic activity. Furthermore, possible mechanisms were analyzed through detecting differentially expressed genes between yeast A2 in the absence and presence of SMF. The results indicated that yeast A2 displayed the optimal decolorization performance when the concentrations (in g/L) of glucose, (NH4)2SO4, yeast extract, and NaCl were 4.0, 1.0, 0.1, and ≤30.0, respectively. Meanwhile, the optimal rotation speed, temperature, and pH were 160 rpm, 30°C, and 5.0, respectively. Acid Red B was decolorized and detoxified by yeast A2 through successive steps, including cleavage of the naphthalene–amidine bond, reductive deamination, oxidative deamination/desulfurization, open-loop of hydroxy-substituted naphthalene, and tricarboxylic acid cycle. The dye decolorization efficiency and halotolerance of yeast A2 were enhanced by 206.3 mT SMF. The activities of manganese peroxidase, and laccase were elevated 1.37- and 1.16-fold by 206.3 mT SMF, but lignin peroxidase activity showed little change. It was suggested from the transcriptome sequence that the enhanced halotolerance might be related to the upregulated genes encoding the enzymes or functional proteins related to intracellular synthesis and accumulation of glycerol.

Poly (lactic acid) (PLA)-Poly (propylene carbonate) (PPC) block copolymer compatibilizers are produced in incompatible 70wt%PLA/PPC blend by initiating transesterification with addition of 1% of tetra butyl titanate (TBT) or by chain extension with addition of 2% of 2,4-toluene diisocyanate (TDI). The above blends can have much better mechanical properties than the blend without TBT and TDI. The elongation at break is dramatically larger (114% with 2% of TDI and 60% with 1% of TBT) than the blend without TDI and TBT, with a slightly lower mechanical strength. A small fraction of the copolymer is likely formed in the PLA/PPC blend with addition of TBT, and a significant amount of the copolymer can be made with addition of TDI. The copolymer produced with TDI has PPC as a major content (~70 wt%) and forms a miscible interphase with its own Tg. The crystallinity of the blend with TDI is significantly lower than the blend without TDI, as the PLA blocks of the copolymer in the interphase is hardly to crystallize. The average molecular weight increases significantly with addition of TDI, likely compensating the lower mechanical strength due to lower crystallinity. Material degradation can occur with addition of TBT, but it is very limited with 1% of TBT. However, compared with the blends without TBT, the PLA crystallinity of the blend with 1%TBT increases sharply during the cooling process, which likely compensates the loss of mechanical strength due to the slightly material degradation. The added TDI does not have any significant impact on PLA lamellar packing, but the addition of TBT can make PLA lamellar packing much less ordered, presumably resulted from much smaller PPC domains formed in the blend due to better compatibility.

High-frequency radar is easily affected by radio frequency interference (RFI) since it shares the band with many radio services. To mitigate the RFIs, this study designs receiver for radar's fast-time processing. Two optimisation problems are, respectively, proposed, both involving an objective function accounting for maximising the signal-to-interference plus noise ratio, but are distinguished with different constrains for sidelobes control. Furthermore, the authors show that the two proposed problems both can be reformulated as the second-order cone programming, hence some well-established interior point methods can be introduced to resolve them. Simulation results show that the designed filters can precisely control the sidelobe level from different perspectives, with the RFIs suppressed to achievable greatest extent.

This article designs waveform in fast-time domain to optimise high-frequency radar performances embedded in the co-channel interference and coloured noise. Considering the whitening filter is applied for fast-time processing, a novel objective function accounting for both signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) and integrated range sidelobe level (IRSL) is introduced and the constant modulus constraint is forced on the probing waveform. An iterative algorithm based on the alternating direction method of multipliers is presented, resolving such non-convex quartic optimisation problem with a polynomial-time computational complexity. In each iteration, two quadratic problems are presented, with the closed-form solutions given. Finally, the authors evaluate the effectiveness of the designed waveform in terms of the range-Doppler processing result, SINR, IRSL and power spectrum.

In order to enhance the ignition ability and reliability of traditional electronic initiators, a novel electronic initiator has been designed to integrate with a nanothermite multilayer film and an electrode plug. The Al/CuOx nanothermite multilayer film with different thickness is deposited on the surface of the electrode plug by magnetron sputtering which uses Pt–W wire as electronic resistance. The exothermicity of Al/CuOx nanothermite multilayer film is so favourable that the ignition ability of electronic initiator is significantly improved. The full firing-voltage sensitivity of the electronic initiator is 10.8 V. The thickness of Al/CuOx multilayer film has negligible effects on the ignition time and ignition energy, but leads to great impacts on the function time, the maximum length of combustion flame and ignition ability. The electrical ignition experiments have exhibited outstanding ignition ability, since the electronic initiator can easily fire the insensitive ignition composition of boron-potassium nitrate (B-KNO3) tablet in a gap of 20.35 mm. It proves that this novel proposal of remoulding the traditional electronic ignition devices will distinctly improve the ignition ability and reliability of electronic initiator.

Indigoids, as popular dyes, can be produced by microbial strains or enzymes catalysis. However, the new valuable products with their transformation mechanisms, especially inter-conversion among the intermediates and products have not been clearly identified yet. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate novel microbial catalytic processes for indigoids production systematically.A phenol hydroxylase gene cluster (4,606 bp) from Arthrobacter sp. W1 (PH(w1)) was obtained. This cluster contains six components in the order of KLMNOP, which exhibit relatively low sequence identities (37-72%) with known genes. It was suggested that indole and all the tested indole derivatives except for 3-methylindole were transformed to various substituted indigoid pigments, and the predominant color products derived from indoles were identified by spectrum analysis. One new purple product from indole, 2-(7-oxo-1H-indol-6(7H)-ylidene) indolin-3-one, should be proposed as the dimerization of isatin and 7-hydroxylindole at the C-2 and C-6 positions. Tunnel entrance and docking studies were used to predict the important amino acids for indoles biotransformation, which were further proved by site-directed mutagenesis.We showed that the phenol hydroxylase from genus Arthrobacter could transform indoles to indigoids with new chemical compounds being produced. Our work should show high insights into understanding the mechanism of indigoids bio-production.
