By reviewing the development history of shale oil reservoir stimulation technology of PetroChina Company Limited (PetroChina), we have systematically summarized the main progress of shale oil reservoir stimulation technology of CNPC in five aspects: reservoir stimulation mechanism, fracture-controlled fracturing, geological-engineering integrated reservoir stimulation design platform, low-cost materials, and large well-pad three-dimensional development mode. It is made clear that the major stimulation technology for shale oil reservoir is the high density multi-cluster and fracture-controlled staged fracturing aiming to increase fracture-controlled reserves, lower operation costs and increase economic benefits. Based on comprehensive analysis of the challenges shale oil reservoir stimulation technology faces in three-dimensional development, stimulation parameter optimization for fracture-controlled fracturing, refracturing and low-cost stimulation technology, we proposed five development directions of the stimulation technology: (1) Strengthen the research on integration of geology and engineering to make full use of reservoir stimulation. (2) Deepen the study on fracture-controlled fracturing to improve reserves development degree. (3) Promote horizontal well three-dimensional development of shale oil to realize the production of multiple layers vertically. (4) Research refracturing technology of shale oil reservoir through horizontal well to efficiently tap the remaining reserves between fractures. (5) Develop low-cost stimulation supporting technology to help reduce the cost and increase economic benefit of oilfield development.

This work proposes a residual recurrent neural network (RRNet) for synthetically extracting spectral information and estimating stellar atmospheric parameters together with 15 chemical element abundances for medium-resolution spectra from the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST). The RRNet consists of two fundamental modules: a residual module and a recurrent module. The residual module extracts spectral features based on the longitudinally driving power from parameters, while the recurrent module recovers spectral information and restrains the negative influences from noises based on Cross-band Belief Enhancement. RRNet is trained by the spectra from common stars between LAMOST DR7 and the APOGEE-Payne catalog. The 17 stellar parameters and their uncertainties for 2.37 million medium-resolution spectra from LAMOST DR7 are predicted. For spectra with a signal-to-noise ratio ≥ 10, the precision of estimations (T eff and log g) are 88 K and 0.13 dex, respectively, elements C, Mg, Al, Si, Ca, Fe, and Ni are 0.05–0.08 dex, and N, O, S, K, Ti, Cr, and Mn are 0.09–0.14 dex, while that of Cu is 0.19 dex. Compared with StarNet and SPCANet, RRNet shows higher accuracy and robustness. In comparison to Apache Point Observatory Galactic Evolution Experiment and Galactic Archaeology with HERMES surveys, RRNet manifests good consistency within a reasonable range of bias. Finally, this work releases a catalog of 2.37 million medium-resolution spectra from the LAMOST DR7, the source code, the trained model, and the experimental data, respectively, for astronomical science exploration and data-processing algorithm research reference.

This report presents a case of lung cancer which can be easily misdiagnosed as distant metastasis. Along with a literature review on the morphological, pathological and prognostic characteristics of lung cancer associated with cystic airspaces (LCCA), it would help to improve our understanding of the dynamic evolution of LCCA, to avoid its delayed diagnosis and treatment. We also propose here a hypothesis on the etiology of LCCA.A patient with advanced ovarian cancer who presented with elevated serum CA125 at time of admission and had undergone TAHBSO at first, and second operation of sigmoid colon resection was performed due to her locoregional recurrence of ovarian cancer. After her second operation, patient showed further increment of serum CA125 and CECT scan indicated an airspace-related pulmonary nodule in the right middle lobe of her lungs. It was suspected that distant metastases of ovarian cancer had reoccurred postoperatively.After comparing the characteristic of metastatic ovarian cancer with LCCA, we diagnosed the pulmonary nodule as primary lung cancer. Surgery eventually confirmed the pulmonary nodule as second primary lung cancer associated with cystic airspaces.The rare occurrence of LCCA should merit special attention from clinicians and radiologists so as to avoid missed or delayed diagnosis. We propose here a hypothesis that LCCA is related to spreading of tumour cells during surgical procedures in lung cancer surgery. Should our hypothesis be substantiated in further studies, this would affect the operation procedures for surgeons in the future.

Based on the results of rate-controlled mercury-injection experiments, the microscopic pore-throat structure characteristics of tight sandstone in Sha-1 Section and tight limestone in Da’anzhai Section of Sichuan Basin were quantitatively characterized. The results show that the pore radius distribution characteristics of tight oil reservoirs are similar. The main distribution is between 100~190 μm, and the average pore radius is 160 μm. While the distribution of the throat radius of tight sandstone and limestone is quite different, the distribution of the throat of sandstone samples is relatively concentrated, and the distribution of the throat of limestone samples is relatively sparse. There is a good positive correlation between the average throat radius and permeability, but the correlation between fractal dimension and permeability is not obvious. This indicates that the permeability is mainly affected by the radius of the throat. The pore-throat ratio in tight oil reservoirs is relatively large, and the resistance to seepage is greater during development. Therefore, during the development of tight oil, measures should be taken to increase the radius of the throat, reduce the ratio of pore radius to pore-throat radius, and improve the seepage capacity of the reservoir, thereby improving the development of tight oil.

Rocks contain multi-scale pore structures, with dimensions ranging from nano- to sample-scale, the inherent tradeoff between imaging resolution and sample size limits the simultaneous characterization of macro-pores and micro-pores using single-resolution imaging. Here, we developed a new hybrid digital rock modeling approach to cope with this open challenge. We first used micron-CT to construct the 3D macro-pore digital rock of tight sandstone, then performed high-resolution SEM on the three orthogonal surfaces of sandstone sample, thus reconstructed the 3D micro-pore digital rock by Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method; finally, we superimposed the macro-pore and micro-pore digital rocks to achieve the integrated digital rock. Maximal ball algorithm was used to extract pore-network parameters of digital rocks, and numerical simulations were completed with Lattice-Boltzmann method (LBM). The results indicate that the integrated digital rock has anisotropy and good connectivity comparable with the real rock, and porosity, pore-throat parameters and intrinsic permeability from simulations agree well with the values acquired from experiments. In addition, the proposed approach improves the accuracy and scale of digital rock modeling and can deal with heterogeneous porous media with multi-scale pore-throat system.

At present, the existing deliverability evaluation models mainly consider the impact of specific factors on production, and the description of the complex fracture network structure primarily remains at the stage of an ideal dual-pore medium with uniform distribution. However, this cannot reflect the actual fracture network structure and fluid flow law of fractured horizontal wells. Thus, in this paper, a non-uniform fracture network structure is proposed considering the influence of the threshold pressure gradient and stress sensitivity characteristics on the production performance of horizontal wells. The stress sensitivity and the fractal theory are combined to characterize the permeability of the complex fracture network, and a three-zone compound unsteady deliverability model for staged fractured horizontal wells in tight oil reservoirs is successfully developed. Laplace transformation, perturbation theory, and numerical inversion are applied to obtain the semi-analytical solution of the proposed deliverability model. The reliability and accuracy of the analytical solution are verified by the classical tri-linear flow model and an oil field example. The effects of related influential parameters on the production of horizontal wells are analyzed. The deliverability evaluation method proposed in this paper can provide a theoretical basis for formulating rational development technology policies for tight oil reservoirs.

In order to further improve the accuracy of digital core modeling, a new hybrid method was proposed to construct the dual pore 3-D digital core with high precision. First of all, 3-D macro-pore digital cores were constructed by micro-CT. Secondly, based on the high-resolution 2-D scanning electron microscopy images of rock cores, micro-pore digital cores were constructed by simulated annealing method. And then, a superposition method was used to construct the digital core which could describe different pore characteristics. Finally, pore structures of digital cores were compared, and lattice Boltzmann method was used to analyze the percolation properties. The results show that the carbonate dual pore digital core constructed by the new hybrid method has a high accuracy, which can capture the pore properties of both macro-pore and micro-pore, and whose permeability simulation results are in good agreement with the experimental measurements. In addition, the new hybrid method is not only accurate and reliable, but also high efficient and economic, and can be applied to all kinds of reservoir modeling.

Pore–throat size is a key parameter for the assessment of reservoirs. Tight sandstone has the strong heterogeneity in the distribution of pores and throats; consequently, it is very difficult to characterize their distributions. In this study, the existing pore–throat characterization techniques were used jointly with scanning electron microscopy (SEM), low-temperature nitrogen adsorption (LTNA), high-pressure mercury intrusion (HPMI), and rate-controlled mercury intrusion (RCMI) technologies to highlight features of throat sizes and distribution of pores in tight sandstone reservoirs of the Y Basin in China. In addition, full-scale maps (FSMs) were generated. The study results show that key pore types in reservoirs of the Y Basin include residual intergranular pores, dissolved pores, clay mineral pores, and microfractures. LTNA can effectively characterize the distribution of pore–throats with a radius of 2–25 nm. HPMI test results show that tight sandstones contain throats with a radius less than 1000 nm, which are mainly distributed in 25–400 nm and have a unimodal distribution. RCMI tests show that there is no significant difference in pore radius distribution of the tight sandstones, peaking at approximately 100,000–200,000 nm; the throat radius of tight sandstones varies greatly and is less than 1000 nm, in agreement with that of HPMI. Generally, the pore–throat radius distribution of tight sandstones is relatively concentrated. By using the aforementioned techniques, FSM distribution features of pore–throat radius in tight sandstone can be characterized effectively. G6 tight sandstone samples develop pores and throats with a radius of 2–350,000 nm, and the pore–throat types of tight sandstone reservoirs in Y basin are mainly mesopores and macropores.

A mathematical model was established for porous flow of horizontal wells based on the dual-porosity model under consideration of imbibition, which was solved by means of a semi-analytical method to forecast production of multiple wells. Moreover, analysis was carried out to effects of production by those factors such as reservoir energy, abundance (the content of crude oil per unit area of the reservoir), brittleness (the property that the material will break after only producing a small deformation under the action of external force) and well spacing by taking Chang 7 reservoir of ChangQing(CQ) Oil Field (a typical tight oil region in China) as an example. On this basis, an optimal method for spacing of volume fracturing horizontal well in tight oil reservoir was formed under constraints of economic benefits. Our finding indicates that there would be no any optimal well spacing without considering constraints but those factors such as reservoir energy, abundance, brittleness would influence well spacing to bring about parameter optimization considering constraints. As for a complex fracturing area gathered near the wellbore whose reservoir energy, abundance and brittleness are higher, horizontal wells for volume fracturing of tight oil reservoirs shall be distributed in a small well spacing. Additionally, comparison of ChangQing and North American Bakken tight oil reservoirs indicates that the former has lower abundance, reservoir energy and brittleness. While the oil price is $60/barrel, the horizontal well is 1000m long and the well spacing is 400m, the target rate of return can be achievable in tight oil reservoir of CQ Oil Field. However, in case of considering the imbibition, the gain can be obtained while the well spacing is 300m. Our study for optimization of the horizontal well spacing for volume fracturing of tight oil reservoirs provides not only theoretical supports for the porous flow mechanism of tight oil reservoirs but also corresponding technical guidance for petroleum engineers when deploying well patterns.

A pore-throat radius full-scale distribution is defined according to the molecular size of formation fluid and the lower limit of pore-throat radius distribution, in order to study the integratedcharacteristics of micro-nano pore-throat systems in tight oil reservoirs. In this study, we established a new full-scale characterization method for pore-throats through contrasting experimental data of high-pressure mercury injection and low-temperature nitrogen adsorption, optimizing the valid data intervals of the full-scale pore-throat radius distribution. Then, the data of full-scale pore-throat radius distribution is checked and corrected based on the experimental data of NMR and centrifugation. Finally, the mesopore data is derived from low-temperature nitrogen adsorption and the macropore data is derived from high-pressure mercury injection. Moreover, the steps to characterize full-scale pore-throats include one unified dimension, one data optimization, two interpolations, one connection, one data test and one data correction. The full-scale characterization of pore-throat radius distribution in tight oil reservoirs of Daqing, Changqing, Sichuan and Dagang shows that the pore-throats of tight sandstones are mainly distributed in the submicron-nano-scale, and 50% of permeability is contributed by submicron pores. Therefore, it is challenging to effectively develop the tight oil reservoirs with permeability less than 0.08 mD in Daqing and lower than 0.03 mD in Changqing. For tight carbonate matrix, pore-throats are mainly distributed in the nanoscale space, and the permeability is mainly contributed by macropores or fractures, so the developmental degree of fractures and other factors shall be considered for estimating the development limit.

The pore characteristics of tight sandstones are of great significance for studying the size distribution, surface roughness and seepage mechanism. In order to evaluate the pore size distribution and pore comprehensive fractal characteristics of tight sandstone in Y Basin, the pore structure of tight sandstone is characterised by low temperature nitrogen adsorption (LTNA) and high pressure mercury intrusion (HPMI), and fractals of different scales are fitted and calculated. We calculate the pore comprehensive fractal dimension of tight sandstone based on the full-scale map and discuss the difference in pore roughness from the shale in the Qinshui Basin. Finally, we also studied the relationship between comprehensive fractal dimension and permeability and porosity. Our results suggest that the pore radius of tight sandstones is distributed between 2 nm to 1,000 nm, and the surface of the macropores (> 100 nm) is rougher and more complex than the small pores (< 100 nm). The pore structure of the tight sandstone in the Y Basin is generally simpler than that of the shale in the Qinshui Basin. Besides, there is no significant correlation between the comprehensive fractal dimension and the permeability and porosity, suggesting the fractal dimension is not affected by porosity and permeability. Based on the basic principle of the porosity method in image segmentation, considering the relationship between the porosity of the rocks and the fractal characteristics of the pore structures, a new improved image segmentation method was proposed, which uses the calculated porosity of the core images as a constraint to obtain the best threshold. The results of comparative analysis show that the porosity method can best segment images theoretically, but the actual segmentation effect is deviated from the real situation. Due to the existence of heterogeneity and isolated pores of cores, the porosity method that takes the experimental porosity of the whole core as the criterion cannot achieve the desired segmentation effect. On the contrary, the new improved method overcomes the shortcomings of the porosity method, and makes a more reasonable binary segmentation for the core grayscale images, which segments images based on the actual porosity of each image by calculated. Moreover, the image segmentation method based on the calculated porosity rather than the measured porosity also greatly saves manpower and material resources, especially for tight rocks.

Polymer flooding is one of the most important techniques for enhancing petroleum recovery in China. After the polymer is injected into the petroleum formation reservoir, the producing water ratio quickly increases, while some polymer remains in the petroleum reservoir formation. To make use of the residual polymer, the mixture of polymer and cross-linking agent is injected into the petroleum reservoir formation, and then the chemical mixture will change into a gel that can shut off high permeability petroleum formation. The method can enhance the sweep efficiency of the following water. The gel, as the profile control agent, is cross-linked by the polymer compound and cross-linking agent. The gelation time is qualitatively determined, and the gel strength is quantitatively measured by a breakthrough vacuum method. Shanghai is the largest industrial and commercial city in China, and its air quality has been deteriorating for several decades. However, there are scarce researches on the level and seasonal variation of fine particle (PM2.5) as well as the carbonaceous fractions when compared with other cities in China and around the world. In the present paper, abundance and seasonal characteristics of PM2.5, organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC) were studied at urban and suburban sites in Shanghai during four season-representative months in 2005-2006 year. PM2.5 samples were collected with high-vol samplers and analyzed for OC and EC using thermal-optical transmittance (TOT) protocol. Results showed that the annual average PM2.5 concentrations were 90.3-95.5 mu g/m(3) at both sites, while OC and EC were 14.7-17.4 mu g/m(3) and 2.8-3.0 mu g/m(3), respectively, with the OC/EC ratios of 5.0-5.6. The carbonaceous levels ranked by the order of Beijing > Guangzhou > Shanghai > Hong Kong. The carbonaceous aerosol accounted for similar to 30% of the PM2.5 mass. On seasonal average, the highest OC and EC levels occurred during fall, and they were higher than the values in summer by a factor of 2. Strong correlations (r = 0.79-0.93) between OC and EC were found in the four seasons. Average level of secondary organic carbon (SOC) was 5.7-7.2 mu g/m(3), accounting for similar to 30% of the total OC. To solve the problem, two types of petroleum sulfonates made in China were selected to form an oil displacement agent (ODA) solution. The petroleum sulfonate available for crude oil from the Gudao oil field with the ultra-low interfacial tension can be found by drawing an oil/water interfacial tension contour diagram. The results show that the interfacial tension can be lower than 3.6 × 10−4 mN/m when the active agent is contained with 0.25% Kelamayi petroleum sulfonate (KPS) + 0.225% Anqing petroleum sulfonate (APS) and if the agent reduces water resistance by entering the tiny pore to improve sweep coefficient and oil displacement efficiency. Synergistic effect of two kind of petroleum sulfonate with low cost to enhance oil recovery will have a great prospect for enhanced oil recovery (EOR).

Shanghai is the largest industrial and commercial city in China, and its air quality has been concerned for several years. However, scarce study had been made on the seasonal levels of atmospheric polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), together with their gas-particle partitioning and potential emission sources. Based on an intensive sampling campaign at urban and suburban areas in Shanghai during four seasons of 2005-2006, this study presented the measurement of PAH concentrations in both particulate and gaseous phases, as well as seasonal and spatial variability. The results showed that the annual PAH levels (gas + particle) were 167 +/- 109 ng m(-3) at the urban site and 216 +/- 86.5 ngm(-3) at the suburban site. Gaseous PAHs (>70%) dominated the total PAH mass at both sites, while particulate PAHs contributed more than 90% of the toxic power according to benzo(a) pyreneequivalent carcinogenic parameter. Different seasonal trend of PAH concentrations was observed between the two sites, and it may be explained by complicated factors such as sampling heights, local/regional emission sources, and climatic conditions. The gas-particle partitioning of PAHs in all samples was calculated, and strong linear correlations between log K-p and log P-L(o) were observed, with shallower slopes (m(r)) at the suburban site than the urban one and in warm season than the cold months, indicating the different equilibrium conditions of PAHs in spatial and seasonal scales in Shanghai. The slope (m(r) = -0.96) and correlation coefficient (R-2 = 0.81) for four-ring PAHs were closest to theoretical equilibrium conditions among compounds with various aromatic rings. Finally, the potential PAH sources were estimated based on principal factor analysis with multiple linear regressions. Ground volatilization dominated the PAH pollutions at both sites, while vehicles and coal consumption were the other main emission sources, which totally contributed 32.0% (suburban) to 49.2% (urban) of PAH mass in Shanghai atmosphere. The effects of wood and biomass burning were also detected, but their contributions to PAHs were negligible.

China is thought to be the most important contributor to the global burden of carbonaceous aerosols, and residential coal combustion is the greatest emission source of black carbon (BC). In the present study, two high-efficiency household coal-stoves are tested together with honeycomb-coal-briquettes and raw-coal-chunks of nine different coals. Coal-burning emissions are collected onto quartz fiber filters (QFFs) and analyzed by a thermal-optical transmittance (TOT) method. Emission factors (EFs) of particulate matter (PM), organic carbon (OC), and elemental carbon (EC) are systematically measured, and the average EFs are calculated by taking into account our previous data. For bituminous coal-briquette and -chunk, EFs of PM, OC, and EC are 7.33, 4.16, and 0.08 g/kg and 14.8, 5.93, and 3.81 g/kg, respectively; and for anthracite-briquette and -chunk, they are 1.21, 0.06, and 0.004 g/kg and 1.08, 0.10, and 0.007 g/kg, respectively. Annual estimates for PM, OC, and EC emissions in China are calculated for the years of 2000 and 2005 according to the EFs and coal consumptions, and the results are consistent with our previous estimates. Bituminous coal-chunk contributes 68% and 99% of the total OC and EC emissions from household coal burning, respectively. Additionally, a new model of Aethalometer (AE90) is introduced into the sampling system to monitor the real-time BC concentrations. On one hand, AE90 provides a set of EFs for optical BC in parallel to thermal-optical EC, and these two data are generally comparable, although BC/EC ratios vary in different coal/stove combinations. On the other hand, AE90 offers a chance to observe the variation of BC concentrations during whole burning cycles, which demonstrates that almost all BC emits into the flue during the initial period of 15 min after coal addition into household stoves.
