Abstract The selective photoreduction of CO2 in aqueous media based on earth-abundant elements only, is today a challenging topic. Here we present the anchoring of discrete molecular catalysts on organic polymeric semiconductors via covalent bonding, generating molecular hybrid materials with well-defined active sites for CO2 photoreduction, exclusively to CO in purely aqueous media. The molecular catalysts are based on aryl substituted Co phthalocyanines that can be coordinated by dangling pyridyl attached to a polymeric covalent triazine framework that acts as a light absorber. This generates a molecular hybrid material that efficiently and selectively achieves the photoreduction of CO2 to CO in KHCO3 aqueous buffer, giving high yields in the range of 22 mmol g−1 (458 μmol g−1 h−1) and turnover numbers above 550 in 48 h, with no deactivation and no detectable H2. The electron transfer mechanism for the activation of the catalyst is proposed based on the combined results from time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy, in situ spectroscopies and quantum chemical calculations.

Deep seawater, characterized by low temperature, high purity, and a rich content of beneficial elements, has significant potential as a health resource. Developing a technology to selectively concentration of mineral ions from deep seawater is crucial for obtaining a functional deep seawater mineral solution. A hybrid ultrafiltration (UF)/Dia-nanofiltration (Dia-NF)/reverse osmosis (RO)/electrodialysis (ED) process was developed and tested for the highly selective separation of these elements. The novel five-step process includes: 1) UF to remove suspended particles and macromolecular organic matter; 2) NF to produce a retentate rich in multivalent ions;3)a Dia-NF step where reverse osmosis desalinated deep seawater is added to the NF retentate, serving as the feed solution and minimizing the concentration of monovalent ions; 4) a selective ED step with a monovalent selective anion exchange membrane to further concentrate beneficial ions (Ca2 +, Mg2+, etc.) and reduce the concentration of SO42- to prevent scaling with Ca2+ and Mg2+; and 5) a selective ED step with a monovalent selective cation exchange membrane to further lower the concentration of monovalent cations (Na+, etc.), producing a highly concentrated functional solution with 7-fold increase in beneficial divalent cations (Ca2+, Mg2+, etc.) compared to raw deep seawater.

GOT1, a cytoplasmic glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase, plays a critical role in various metabolic pathways essential for cellular homeostasis and dysregulated metabolism. Recent studies have highlighted the significant plasticity and roles of GOT1 in metabolic reprogramming through participating in both classical and non-classical glutamine metabolism, glycolytic metabolism, and other metabolic pathways. This review summarizes emerging insights on the metabolic roles of GOT1 in cancer cells and emphasizes the response of cancer cells to altered metabolism when the expression of GOT1 is altered. We review how cancer cells repurpose cell intrinsic metabolism and their flexibility when GOT1 is inhibited and delineate the molecular mechanisms of GOT1’s interaction with specific oncogenes and regulators at multiple levels, including transcriptional and epigenetic regulation, which govern cellular growth and metabolism. These insights may provide new directions for cancer metabolism research and novel targets for cancer treatment.

Objectiveto evaluate the research status and development hotspots of fetal α-thalassemia by quantitatively analyzing the diagnostic status, key areas, related management measures and prospects of the disease by bibliometrics.MethodsThe global literature on fetal α-thalassemia and severe α-thalassemia from 2009–2023 in the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) was visually analyzed by VOSviewer and CiteSpace.Results(1) The examination of the quantity of publications concerning fetal α-thalassemia indicates a rising tendency prior to 2018, followed by a decrease after 2018. (2)The United States, China, Italy, Thailand have published more papers, and the United States has more collaborating countries such as Italy and China. (3) Chiang Mai University and Harvard University are the top two institutions with the highest contribution. However, Chiang Mai University's H index (12) and citation frequency per article (8.05) are relatively low and the NC (6,342), H index (33) and citations per article (75.42) of Harvard University are higher than those of the other institutions. (4) Tongsong T, Gambari R and Fucharoen S are the top three prolific authors. Fucharoen S emerges as the most frequently cited author with 738 citations, excluding self-citations. (5) HEMOGLOBIN leading with 87 published papers (NC:601,IF: 0.82, H-index: 13), followed by BLOOD(58 papers, Nc: 3755, IF: 25.48, H-index: 40) and BLOOD CELLS MOLECULES AND DISEASES(39 papers, Nc: 729, IF: 2.37, H-index: 16). (6) The most cited article was published in science and the second and third cited articles were featured in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences; the top 3 clusters of co-cited literature are “gene editing”, “polymorphisms”, “hydroxyurea”. (7) Keywords analysis showe that the top two categories of keyword cluster focus on the prenatal diagnosis and the current treatment strategy of the disease, which remain the research hotspots.ConclusionsRecent research on this topic has primarily focused on prenatal diagnosis and treatment strategies. A particular area of interest is the ongoing research on gene therapy.The advances in non-invasive diagnosis and therapeutic methods will change the current management approaches for fetal severe α-thalassemia in the future.

Abstract Background Understanding the mechanism behind sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE) remains a formidable task. This study endeavors to shed light on the complex cellular and molecular alterations that occur in the brains of a mouse model with SAE, ultimately unraveling the underlying mechanisms of this condition. Methods We established a murine model using intraperitoneal injection of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in wild type and Anxa1 −/− mice and collected brain tissues for analysis at 0-hour, 12-hour, 24-hour, and 72-hour post-injection. Utilizing advanced techniques such as single-nucleus RNA sequencing (snRNA-seq) and Stereo-seq, we conducted a comprehensive characterization of the cellular responses and molecular patterns within the brain. Results Our study uncovered notable temporal differences in the response to LPS challenge between Anxa1−/− (annexin A1 knockout) and wild type mice, specifically at the 12-hour and 24-hour time points following injection. We observed a significant increase in the proportion of Astro-2 and Micro-2 cells in these mice. These cells exhibited a colocalization pattern with the vascular subtype Vas-1, forming a distinct region known as V1A2M2, where Astro-2 and Micro-2 cells surrounded Vas-1. Moreover, through further analysis, we discovered significant upregulation of ligands and receptors such as Timp1-Cd63, Timp1-Itgb1, Timp1-Lrp1, as well as Ccl2-Ackr1 and Cxcl2-Ackr1 within this region. In addition, we observed a notable increase in the expression of Cd14-Itgb1, Cd14-Tlr2, and Cd14-C3ar1 in regions enriched with Micro-2 cells. Additionally, Cxcl10-Sdc4 showed broad upregulation in brain regions containing both Micro-2 and Astro-2 cells. Notably, upon LPS challenge, there was an observed increase in Anxa1 expression in the mouse brain. Furthermore, our study revealed a noteworthy increase in mortality rates following Anxa1 knockdown. However, we did not observe substantial differences in the types, numbers, or distribution of other brain cells between Anxa1−/− and wildtype mice over time. Nevertheless, when comparing the 24-hour post LPS injection time point, we observed a significant decrease in the proportion and distribution of Micro-2 and Astro-2 cells in the vicinity of blood vessels in Anxa1−/− mice. Additionally, we noted reduced expression levels of several ligand-receptor pairs including Cd14-Tlr2, Cd14-C3ar1, Cd14-Itgb1, Cxcl10-Sdc4, Ccl2-Ackr1, and Cxcl2-Ackr1. Conclusions By combining snRNA-seq and Stereo-seq techniques, our study successfully identified a distinctive cellular colocalization, referred to as a special pathological niche, comprising Astro-2, Micro-2, and Vas-1 cells. Furthermore, we observed an upregulation of ligand-receptor pairs within this niche. These findings suggest a potential association between this cellular arrangement and the underlying mechanisms contributing to SAE or the increased mortality observed in Anxa1 knockdown mice.

Abstract Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) have recently emerged as a promising technology for efficient water wave energy harvesting. However, there is a paucity of clear guidance regarding the optimal designs of TENGs and their shells to achieve efficient absorption and conversion of water wave energy in real random waves. Herein, from the perspective of wave‐body interaction and energy transfer, this paper proposes a structural quality factor (Qunit) for the quantitative evaluation of both the motion of floating triboelectric nanogenerator (Flo‐TENG) shells and their capability to absorb and convert water wave energy efficiently. The factor is further subdivided into the amplitude structural quality factor (Qacc), which characterizes shell motion amplitude, and the frequency structural quality factor (Qf), which describes shell motion frequency. This paper systematically investigates the impact of various shell parameters such as bow shapes, curvatures, inclinations, and immersion ratios on Qacc and Qf. The findings indicate that variations in shell shape result in distinct Qunit values along different axial directions of wave propagation. These variations directly influence energy absorption efficiency in these directions. These results provide fundamental guidance for the design of high‐performance Flo‐TENG shells and the selection of internal energy harvesting directions to enable more efficient energy conversion.

ObjectiveThis study aimed to investigate the association between antimony (Sb) exposure and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels in adolescents.MethodsA cross-sectional study of 751 adolescents aged 12–19 years was conducted via the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES, 2013–2016). Survey-weighted linear regression and restricted cubic spline (RCS) analyses were applied to evaluate the relationship of urinary Sb exposure with HbA1c.ResultsA significant relationship was observed between urinary Sb concentrations and HbA1c levels (percent change: 0.93; 95% CI: 0.42, 1.45) after full adjustment. After converting urinary Sb levels to a categorical variable by tertiles (T1–T3), the highest quantile was associated with a significant increase in HbA1c (percent change: 1.45; 95% CI: 0.38, 2.53) compared to T1. The RCS models showed a monotonically increasing relationship of urinary Sb with HbA1c. Subgroup analyses revealed a sex-specific relationship between urinary Sb exposure and HbA1c with a significant positive association in males and a non-significant positive association in females. Sensitivity analyses further confirmed the relationship between urinary Sb and HbA1c, even after excluding participants who were overweight or obese (percent change: 1.58%, 95% CI: 0.88, 2.28) and those with serum cotinine levels ≥ 1 ng/mL (percent change: 1.14%, 95% CI: 0.49, 1.80).ConclusionOur findings indicated that increased Sb exposure may correlate with higher HbA1c levels, especially in male adolescents. More studies are needed to further explore and validate the potential mechanisms.

ContextType I hypersensitivity affects approximately one-third of the global population. As the pathophysiology underlying the development of type I hypersensitivity (asthma, food allergy, and anaphylactic shock, etc.) is complex and heterogeneous, animal model studies continue to be the key to identifying novel molecular pathways and providing therapeutic strategies.ObjectiveSelection of the animal model should be done with careful consideration of the protocol variables, animal species, and strains to accurately reflect the clinical symptoms typical of humans.MethodsThe following databases were searched: PubMed and Web of Science.Results and conclusionForeign allergens include allergenic proteins and chemical haptens. This review summarizes the various methods used for designing animal models of common allergenic protein-induced type I hypersensitivity, namely, passive anaphylaxis model, active systemic anaphylaxis/anaphylaxis shock model, food allergy model, asthma model, and IgE-mediated cell models. Additionally, we summarize shrimp tropomyosin-induced type I hypersensitivity models from our previous studies and discuss their advantages and limitations compared with that of ovalbumin-induced models.

PurposeOur study utilizes Mendelian Randomization (MR) to explore the causal relationships between a range of risk factors and preeclampsia, a major contributor to maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality.MethodsEmploying the Inverse Variance Weighting (IVW) approach, we conducted a comprehensive multi-exposure MR study analyzing genetic variants linked to 25 risk factors including metabolic disorders, circulating lipid levels, immune and inflammatory responses, lifestyle choices, and bone metabolism. We applied rigorous statistical techniques such as sensitivity analyses, Cochran’s Q test, MR Egger regression, funnel plots, and leave-one-out sensitivity analysis to address potential biases like pleiotropy and population stratification.ResultsOur analysis included 267,242 individuals, focusing on European ancestries and involving 2,355 patients with preeclampsia. We identified strong genetic associations linking increased preeclampsia risk with factors such as hyperthyroidism, BMI, type 2 diabetes, and elevated serum uric acid levels. Conversely, no significant causal links were found with gestational diabetes, total cholesterol, sleep duration, and bone mineral density, suggesting areas for further investigation. A notable finding was the causal relationship between systemic lupus erythematosus and increased preeclampsia risk, highlighting the significant role of immune and inflammatory responses.ConclusionThis extensive MR study sheds light on the complex etiology of preeclampsia, underscoring the causal impact of specific metabolic, lipid, immune, lifestyle, and bone metabolism factors. Our findings advocate for a multidimensional approach to better understand and manage preeclampsia, paving the way for future research to develop targeted preventive and therapeutic strategies.

Dopamine can be used to treat depression, myocardial infarction, and other diseases. However, few reports are available on the de novo microbial synthesis of dopamine from low-cost substrate. In this study, integrated omics technology was used to explore the dopamine metabolism of a novel marine multi-stress-tolerant aromatic yeast Meyerozyma guilliermondii GXDK6. GXDK6 was found to have the ability to biosynthesize dopamine when using glucose as the substrate. 14 key genes for the biosynthesis of dopamine were identified by whole genome-wide analysis. Transcriptomic and proteomic data showed that the expression levels of gene AAT2 encoding aspartate aminotransferase (regulating dopamine anabolism) were upregulated, while gene AO-I encoding copper amine oxidase (involved in dopamine catabolism) were downregulated under 10 % NaCl stress compared with non-NaCl stress, thereby contributing to biosynthesis of dopamine. Further, the amount of dopamine under 10 % NaCl stress was 2.51-fold higher than that of zero NaCl, which was consistent with the multi-omics results. Real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) results confirmed the metabolic model of dopamine. Furthermore, by overexpressing AAT2, AST enzyme activity was increased by 24.89 %, the expression of genes related to dopamine metabolism was enhanced, and dopamine production was increased by 56.36 % in recombinant GXDK6AAT2. In conclusion, Meyerozyma guilliermondii GXDK6 could utilize low-cost carbon source to synthesize dopamine, and NaCl stress promoted the biosynthesis of dopamine.

ObjectiveThis study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of α-thalassemia gene testing as a part of an antenatal intervention program over a 10-year period.MethodsAll patients underwent α-thalassemia gene testing, which included the analysis of three types of deletions and mutations. Rare α-thalassemia gene testing was performed using Sanger sequencing, multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification, and sequencing techniques. Prenatal diagnosis was performed in high-risk couples using chorionic villus sampling or amniocentesis.ResultsFrom 2010 to 2019, among the 91,852 patients examined, α-thalassemia mutations were identified in 41.78% of patients. The most frequent α0 gene mutation was--SEA, followed by--THAI. Two rare α0-thalassemia gene mutations at --32.8 and --230, were also observed. A total of 2,235 high-risk couples were identified, of which 562 were affected, including three with the--SEA/--THAI genotype and one with the--SEA/--230 genotype. Additionally, prenatal diagnosis revealed four cases of fetal anemia and/or mild edema, along with two cases of severe fetal edema. Chromosome and gene chip results were normal. Thalassemia gene testing showed an αCSα/αCSα genotype in four patients with anemia and/or mild edema, while two patients with severe fetal edema had one--SEA/αCSα genotype and one--SEA/--GX genotype. Using the cut-off points of 74.6 fL and 24.4 pg as criteria for identifying α0-thalassemia carriers and HbH disease, the detection rate of missed diagnoses in high-risk couples is consistent with national guidelines for standards, potentially saving 10,217,700 ¥.ConclusionRoutine molecular testing for α-thalassemia in high-risk prenatal populations effectively prevented severe α-thalassemia births. Despite the high cost, the cutoff points proposed by this study suggest that implementing screening using a new parameter has the potential to reduce current expenses.

BackgroundDespite observational links between serum uric acid (SUA), sex hormone-related phenotypes, and female infertility, the causality behind these associations remains uncertain.ObjectiveThis study utilizes Bidirectional Two-Sample and Mediation Mendelian Randomization to explore the causal relationships and mediation effects of sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), total testosterone (TT), and estradiol on these associations.MethodsWe analyzed single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with SUA and sex hormone levels using data from large-scale GWAS of European populations. Female infertility data were sourced from 6,481 cases and 75,450 controls in the FinnGen Consortium. We employed methods including Inverse Variance Weighted (IVW), Weighted Median, and MR-Egger regression to assess causality.ResultsWe found that elevated SUA levels causally increase the risk of female infertility (IVW OR: 1.13, P=0.047). Elevated SUA levels significantly decrease SHBG levels (β=-0.261; P=2.177e-04), with SHBG mediating 27.93% of the effect of SUA on infertility (OR=0.854; 95%CI, 0.793–0.920; P=2.853e-05). Additionally, elevated TT levels, which were associated with decreased SUA levels (β=-0.127), showed an indirect effect on infertility mediated by SUA (β=-0.0187; 95% CI, -0.041 to -0.003; P=0.046).ConclusionOur findings demonstrate causal links between high SUA and increased risk of female infertility mediated by hormonal factors such as SHBG and TT. These insights suggest new avenues for infertility treatment and highlight the need for further research into these mechanisms.

This paper presents a novel indoor visible light positioning algorithm utilizing single light emitting diode (LED) light. In the proposed system, a commercial circular LED light with a beacon and a smartphone served as the transmitter and receiver, respectively. By using the pixel information of the beacon for optical center and position correction, combined with the proportional relationship between the image and the world coordinate scale, precise world coordinates of the receiver can be accurately determined. This algorithm offers a simplified approach without the need for complex mathematical derivations, effectively reducing computational complexity without the need to restrict the orientation of the receiver in the horizontal plane. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, an experimental setup has been constructed and tested. Experimental results demonstrate an average positioning error of 1.17 cm at a height of 2 m and a remarkably low average positioning error of 1.00 cm at a height of 1.5 m. The average positioning time of the system is 16.38ms.

Emergency communication networks play a vital role in disaster monitoring, transmission, and application during disaster emergency response (DER), however, the performance and stability of edge nodes in the emergency communication networks are often weak due to limited communication and computation resources. This weakness directly affects the quality of service (QoS) of the geospatial edge service (GES) chains involved in emergency monitoring. Existing research predominantly addresses service compositions in stable environments, neglecting the aggregation of efficient and robust GES chains in emergency communication networks. This study proposes an evolutionary particle swarm optimization (EPSO)-based emergency monitoring GES chain in an emergency communication network. It includes a GES chain model of emergency environment monitoring for tailing areas, as well as the designs of the particle chromosome encoding method, fitness evaluation model, and particle chromosome swarm update operators of the EPSO-based GES chain. Finally, the study conducts emergency environment monitoring experiments for tailing areas using the proposed method. Experiments results demonstrate that the proposed method significantly enhances the efficiency, stability, and reliability of emergency monitoring GES chains in the emergency communication network. This is crucial to providing fast and reliable services for DER during natural disasters.

Haptics for stress regulation is well developed these years. Using vibrotactile to present biofeedback, guiding breathing or heartbeat regulation is a dominant technical approach. However, designing computer-mediated affective touch for stress regulation is also a promising way and has not been fully explored. In this paper, a haptic device was developed to test whether the computer-mediated affective stroking on the forearm could help to assist people in reducing stress. In our method, we used mid-air technology to generate subtle pressure force by blowing air and generating thermal feedback by using Peltier elements simultaneously. Firstly, we found intensity and velocity parameters to present comfort and pleasant stroking sensations. Afterward, an experiment was conducted to find out whether this approach could help people mediate their perceived and physiological stress. A total of 49 participants were randomly assigned to either a Stroking Group (SG) or a Control Group (CG). Results showed that participants from SG felt more relaxed than those from CG. The physiological stress index, RMSSD, increased and LF/HF decreased in SG although these changes were not statistically significant. Our exploration created subtle, non-invasive, noiseless haptic sensations. It could be a promising alternative for assisting people in stress regulation. Design implications and future applicable scenarios were discussed.

Abstract Background Phosphorus is one of the essential nutrients for plant growth. Phosphate-solubilizing microorganisms (PSMs) can alleviate available P deficiency and enhance plant growth in an eco-friendly way. Although ammonium toxicity is widespread, there is little understanding about the effect of ammonium stress on phosphorus solubilization (PS) of PSMs. Results In this study, seven PSMs were isolated from mangrove sediments. The soluble phosphate concentration in culture supernatant of Bacillus aryabhattai NM1-A2 reached a maximum of 196.96 mg/L at 250 mM (NH4)2SO4. Whole-genome analysis showed that B. aryabhattai NM1-A2 contained various genes related to ammonium transporter (amt), ammonium assimilation (i.e., gdhA, gltB, and gltD), organic acid synthesis (i.e., ackA, fdhD, and idh), and phosphate transport (i.e., pstB and pstS). Transcriptome data showed that the expression levels of amt, gltB, gltD, ackA and idh were downregulated, while gdhA and fdhD were upregulated. The inhibition of ammonium transporter and glutamine synthetase/glutamate synthase (GS/GOGAT) pathway contributed to reducing energy loss. For ammonium assimilation under ammonium stress, accompanied by protons efflux, the glutamate dehydrogenase pathway was the main approach. More 2-oxoglutarate (2-OG) was induced to provide abundant carbon skeletons. The downregulation of formate dehydrogenase and high glycolytic rate resulted in the accumulation of formic acid and acetic acid, which played key roles in PS under ammonium stress. Conclusions The accumulation of 2-OG and the inhibition of GS/GOGAT pathway played a key role in ammonium detoxification. The secretion of protons, formic acid and acetic acid was related to PS. Our work provides new insights into the PS mechanism, which will provide theoretical guidance for the application of PSMs.

Abstract In biological systems, molecular assembly primarily relies on the assistance of molecular chaperones. Inspired by nature, strategies like ‘chaperone‐assisted assembly’ and ‘catalyzed assembly’ have been proposed for the sophisticated control of molecular assembly. Nonetheless, significant challenges remain in the rational design of such systems, calling for a deep understanding of underlying principles. Herein, we demonstrate an artificial chaperone serves a dual role, that is catalyst in low dosages and inhibitor in high dosages, in regulating the supramolecular polymerization of peptides. Low dosages of carboxymethyl cellulose, as the chaperones, catalyze the assembly of Aβ16‐22 peptides into fibrils through multi‐step phase separation, while high dosages trap the peptides into coacervate intermediates and therefore inhibit the fibrillation. Consequently, the quantity of chaperones does not follow the intuition that ‘more is better’ for catalyzing assembly but instead has an optimal molar ratio. Investigation reveals that the interplay and evolution of electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions are the keys to achieving these processes. This study provides insights into the multifaceted roles artificial chaperones may play in a dosage‐dependent manner and enriches the toolkit for efficient and controllable construction of complex assembly systems.

Gynecologic cancers, including ovarian cancer (OC), cervical cancer (CC), and endometrial cancer (EC), pose a serious threat to women’s health and quality of life due to their high incidence and lethality. Therapeutic resistance in tumors refers to reduced sensitivity of tumor cells to therapeutic drugs or radiation, which compromises the efficacy of treatment or renders it ineffective. Therapeutic resistance significantly contributes to treatment failure in gynecologic tumors, although the specific molecular mechanisms remain unclear. Exosomes are nanoscale vesicles released and received by distinct kinds of cells. Exosomes contain proteins, lipids, and RNAs closely linked to their origins and functions. Recent studies have demonstrated that exosomal ncRNAs may be involved in intercellular communication and can modulate the progression of tumorigenesis, aggravation and metastasis, tumor microenvironment (TME), and drug resistance. Besides, exosomal ncRNAs also have the potential to become significant diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers in various of diseases. In this paper, we reviewed the biological roles and mechanisms of exosomal ncRNAs in the drug resistance of gynecologic tumors, as well as explored the potential of exosomal ncRNAs acting as the liquid biopsy molecular markers in gynecologic cancers.

Blastocyst biopsy samples (n = 253) were obtained from 52 deletional α-thalassemia couples. Furthermore, SNP haplotype analysis combined with PCR loci detection can improve the accuracy and detection rate of deletional α-thalassemia.

Abstract The study aimed to investigate the mechanism of action of β-elemene (ELE) in the treatment of esophageal cancer (EC). In this study, public databases were used to predict related targets in ELE and EC. The network analysis was performed to identify key targets of ELE in EC treatment. Further, bioinformatics and DAVID databases were used for GO and KEGG enrichment analysis, respectively. Ultimately, molecular docking and in vitro cell experiments were conducted to validate the results of network pharmacology enrichment. As a result, 34 candidate targets for ELE in the treatment of EC were obtained, and five key targets (STAT3, EGFR, CTNNB1, BCL2L1 and CASP9) were identified. Abstract Consciousness arises from the spatiotemporal neural dynamics, however, its relationship with neural flexibility and regional specialization remains elusive. We identified a consciousness-related signature marked by shifting spontaneous fluctuations along a unimodal-transmodal cortical axis. This simple signature is sensitive to altered states of consciousness in single individuals, exhibiting abnormal elevation under psychedelics and in psychosis. The hierarchical dynamic reflects brain state changes in global integration and connectome diversity under task-free conditions. Quasi-periodic pattern detection revealed that hierarchical heterogeneity as spatiotemporally propagating waves linking to arousal. A similar pattern can be observed in macaque electrocorticography. Furthermore, the spatial distribution of principal cortical gradient preferentially recapitulated the genetic transcription levels of the histaminergic system and that of the functional connectome mapping of the tuberomammillary nucleus, which promotes wakefulness. Combining behavioral, neuroimaging, electrophysiological, and transcriptomic evidence, we propose that global consciousness is supported by efficient hierarchical processing constrained along a low-dimensional macroscale gradient.

It has not been clearly understood whether the hydrocarbon generated from the argillaceous sourcerocks of the Lower Cambrian Qiongzhusi Formation could upward pass through the regional cap rocks of the Lower-Middle Cambrian gypsum rocks and accumulate in the Middle-Upper Cambrian Xixiangchi Group reservoir, namely the cross-formational hydrocarbon accumulation, in the eastern Sichuan Basin. Therefore, the studies on the reservoir solid bitumen in the Xixiangchi Group and the sealing performance of the regional cap rocks of the Lower-Middle Cambrian gypsum rocks were carried out, and the cross-formational hydrocarbon accumulation of the Cambrian oil and gas and its significance for natural gas exploration were discussed. It was shown by synthetic studies that the reservoir solid bitumen in the Xixiangchi Group mainly originated from the argillaceous source rocks of the Lower Cambrian Qiongzhusi Formation. The sealing integrity of the regional cap rocks of the Lower-Middle Cambrian gypsum rocks was damaged to some extent by the reactivated basement faults and the large nascent faults in the Middle Permian to Middle Triassic though it had good sealing performance in geological times, which could provide convenient vertical pathways for the Cambrian cross-formational hydrocarbon accumulation in the eastern Sichuan Basin. Three evolutionary stages were built up about the Cambrian hydrocarbon migration and accumulation as follows. Stage 1 is the formation of the Cambrian pre-salt early paleo-reservoirs in the period ofthe Late Silurian to the Early Permian (S3-P1), stage 2 is the one of the Cambrian cross-formational hydrocarbon accumulation in the period of the Middle Permian to the Middle Triassic (P2-T2), and stage 3 is the formation of the Cambrian late paleo-gas reservoirs in the period of the Late Triassic to the Early Cretaceous (T3-K1). The cross-formational hydrocarbon accumulation is an important feature of hydrocarbon accumulation in multi-cycle superimposed basins, and the reactivated basement faults and the large nascent faults in the period of the MiddlePermian to the Middle Triassic are important clues to the Xixiangchi Group primary paleo-gas reservoirs. Identification and evaluation of the Xixiangchi Group primary paleo-gas reservoirs will be the key points and the main challenges to natural gas exploration in the study area.

Drug resistance is currently one of the biggest challenges in cancer treatment. With the deepening understanding of drug resistance, various mechanisms have been revealed, including metabolic reprogramming and alterations of redox balance. Notably, metabolic reprogramming mediates the survival of tumor cells in harsh environments, thereby promoting the development of drug resistance. In addition, the changes during metabolic pattern shift trigger reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, which in turn regulates cellular metabolism, DNA repair, cell death, and drug metabolism in direct or indirect ways to influence the sensitivity of tumors to therapies. Therefore, the intersection of metabolism and ROS profoundly affects tumor drug resistance, and clarifying the entangled mechanisms may be beneficial for developing drugs and treatment methods to thwart drug resistance. In this review, we will summarize the regulatory mechanism of redox and metabolism on tumor drug resistance and highlight recent therapeutic strategies targeting metabolic–redox circuits, including dietary interventions, novel chemosynthetic drugs, drug combination regimens, and novel drug delivery systems.

This study examined spatial and temporal thermal performance and energy consumption. The temperature distribution in the running period was monitored in test rooms with integrated electric- and hot water-heated floors. The short- and long-term energy consumption of the two heating systems were recorded and compared. The results indicated that the integrated electric heating system generated higher temperatures for indoor air and on the exterior surface of the wooden floor than the hot water heating system; meanwhile, the difference in the mean temperatures of the exterior and rear surfaces of the electric-heated floor was 2.44 °C, while that of the hot water-heated test room was 13.25 °C. The efficient structure of the integrated electric heating system saved 22.97% energy compared to the hot water system after short-term (7 h) charging and reaching a dynamic balance, and it efficiently increased the energy utilization rate to 11.81%. After long-term charging, the daily energy consumption of the integrated electric heating system consumed much less energy than the hot water system every month. The integrated electric heating system saved 62.55% and 34.30% of energy in May and January, respectively, and consumed less than half of the energy the hot water system consumed in the less cold months. Therefore, a high-efficiency and energy-saving integrated electric-heated floor could be a potential indoor heating solution.

Ultraviolet (UV) radiation has been widely utilized as a disinfection strategy to effectively eliminate various pathogens. The disinfection task achieves complete coverage of object surfaces by planning the motion trajectory of autonomous mobile robots and the UVC irradiation strategy. This introduces an additional layer of complexity to path planning, as every point on the surface of the object must receive a certain dose of irradiation. Nevertheless, the considerable dosage required for virus inactivation often leads to substantial energy consumption and dose redundancy in disinfection tasks, presenting challenges for the implementation of robots in large-scale environments. Optimizing energy consumption of light sources has become a primary concern in disinfection planning, particularly in large-scale settings. Addressing the inefficiencies associated with dosage redundancy, this study proposes a dose coverage planning framework, utilizing MOPSO to solve the multi-objective optimization model for planning UVC dose coverage. Diverging from conventional path planning methodologies, our approach prioritizes the intrinsic characteristics of dose accumulation, integrating a UVC light efficiency factor to mitigate dose redundancy with the aim of reducing energy expenditure and enhancing the efficiency of robotic disinfection. Empirical trials conducted with autonomous disinfecting robots in real-world settings have corroborated the efficacy of this model in deactivating viruses.

Summary: Arousal and awareness are two components of consciousness whose neural mechanisms remain unclear. Spontaneous peaks of global (brain-wide) blood-oxygenation-level-dependent (BOLD) signal have been found to be sensitive to changes in arousal. By contrasting BOLD signals at different arousal levels, we find decreased activation of the ventral posterolateral nucleus (VPL) during transient peaks in the global signal in low arousal and awareness states (non-rapid eye movement sleep and anesthesia) compared to wakefulness and in eyes-closed compared to eyes-open conditions in healthy awake individuals. Intriguingly, VPL-global co-activation remains high in patients with unresponsive wakefulness syndrome (UWS), who exhibit high arousal without awareness, while it reduces in rapid eye movement sleep, a state characterized by low arousal but high awareness. Furthermore, lower co-activation is found in individuals during N3 sleep compared to patients with UWS. These results demonstrate that co-activation of VPL and global activity is critical to arousal but not to awareness.

The application of artificial intelligence (AI) to summarize a whole-brain magnetic resonance image (MRI) into an effective “brain age” metric can provide a holistic, individualized, and objective view of how the brain interacts with various factors (e.g., genetics and lifestyle) during aging. Brain age predictions using deep learning (DL) have been widely used to quantify the developmental status of human brains, but their wider application to serve biomedical purposes is under criticism for requiring large samples and complicated interpretability. Animal models, i.e., rhesus monkeys, have offered a unique lens to understand the human brain - being a species in which aging patterns are similar, for which environmental and lifestyle factors are more readily controlled. However, applying DL methods in animal models suffers from data insufficiency as the availability of animal brain MRIs is limited compared to many thousands of human MRIs. We showed that transfer learning can mitigate the sample size problem, where transferring the pre-trained AI models from 8,859 human brain MRIs improved monkey brain age estimation accuracy and stability. The highest accuracy and stability occurred when transferring the 3D ResNet [mean absolute error (MAE) = 1.83 years] and the 2D global-local transformer (MAE = 1.92 years) models. Our models identified the frontal white matter as the most important feature for monkey brain age predictions, which is consistent with previous histological findings. This first DL-based, anatomically interpretable, and adaptive brain age estimator could broaden the application of AI techniques to various animal or disease samples and widen opportunities for research in non-human primate brains across the lifespan.

African swine fever virus (ASFV) and porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) infections lead to severe respiratory diseases in pigs, resulting in significant economic losses for the global swine industry. While numerous studies have focused on specific gene functions or pathway activities during infection, an investigation of shared immune responses in porcine alveolar macrophages (PAMs) after ASFV and PRRSV infections was lacking. In this study, we conducted a comparison using two single-cell transcriptomic datasets generated from PAMs under ASFV and PRRSV infection. Pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) RIG-I (DDX58), MDA5 (IFIH1), and LGP2 (DHX58) were identified as particularly recognizing ASFV and PRRSV, triggering cellular defense responses, including the upregulation of four cytokine families (CCL, CXCL, IL, and TNF) and the induction of pyroptosis. Through weighted gene co-expression network analysis and protein–protein interaction analysis, we identified thirteen gene and protein interactions shared by both scRNA-seq analyses, suggesting the ability to inhibit both ASFV and PRRSV viral replication. We discovered six proteins (PARP12, PARP14, HERC5, DDX60, RSAD2, and MNDA) in PAMs as inhibitors of ASFV and PRRSV replication. Collectively, our findings showed detailed characterizations of the immune responses in PAMs during ASFV and PRRSV infections, which may facilitate the treatments of these viral diseases.

BackgroundBirth defects (BDs) are associated with many potential risk factors, and its causes are complex.ObjectivesThis study aimed to explore the epidemiological characteristics of BDs in Guangxi of China and the associated risk factors of BDs.MethodsBDs data of perinatal infants (PIs) were obtained from the Guangxi birth defects monitoring network between 2016 and 2020. Univariate Poisson regression was used to calculate the prevalence-rate ratios (PRR) to explore the changing trends of BDs prevalence by year and the correlation between the regarding of characteristics of BDs (including infant gender, maternal age, and quarter) and BDs. Clinical characteristics of PIs with BDs and general characteristics of their mothers were documented, and Spearman correlation analysis was used to explore the potential associated risk factors of BDs.ResultsBetween 2016 and 2020, 44,146 PIs with BDs were monitored, with an overall BDs prevalence of 121.71 (95% CI: 120.58–122.84) per 10,000 PIs, showing a significant increase trend (PRR = 1.116, 95% CI: 1.108–1.123), especially the prevalence of congenital heart defects (CHDs) that most significantly increased (PRR = 1.300, 95% CI: 1.283–1.318). At present, studies of the shales in Qianjiang Formation from the Qianjiang Depression has been widely documented and significant progress has been made in the aspects of geochemical characteristics and reservoir physical properties.However, the complexity of pores, the main minerals forming pore throats and their influencing factors is still poorly understood. In this work, based on fractal theory and combined with nitrogen adsorption and high-pressure mercury injection experiments, Wells BX7 and BYY2 at different deposition locations were selected to evaluate the specific surface fractal characteristics, pore structure fractal characteristics and pore throat fractal characteristics of the Eq34-10 rhythmic shale of the Qianjiang Formation and analyses the influencing factors.The results show that the pore surface of shale in study are a is relatively flat, with the fractal dimension D1 being close to 2, and the roughness of the pore surface is mainly affected by the characteristics of the clay minerals. Compared with Well BX7 at the sedimentary edge, Well BYY2 at the sedimentary center has simpler fractal characteristics of reservoir pore structure. The larger the proportion of pore volume with a small pore size is, the more complex the fractal characteristics of the pore structure are. The fractal dimension D2 of the reservoir pore structure in Well BX7 is mainly affected by clay minerals and quartz, while dolomiteis the dominant controlling factor for the fractal dimension D2 of the reservoir pore structure in Well BYY2. Dolomite is the main mineral that constitutes the pore throat of the Well BX7 reservoir. With the increase in dolomite, the pore throat features are complex, and the pore connectivity becomes poor. The pore throat diameter formed by quartz in the Well BYY2 reservoir is small.The increase in quartz will worsen the pore connectivity, and the pore throat diameter formed by calcite is large. The occurrence of shale oil will reduce the fractal dimension of pores and have little influence on the fractal characteristics of pore throats. The presence of salt minerals can block the pores and make the pore connectivity poor.

A healthy urban environment is considered as an important issue for the amenity and equity of migrants. China has one of the largest internal population movements in the world, and the environmental health of its migrants becomes a growing concern. Based on the 1‰ microdata from the 2015 1% population sample survey, this study uses the spatial visualization and spatial econometric interaction model to reveal intercity population migration patterns and the role of environmental health in China. The results are as follows. First, the main direction of population migration is toward economically developed high class cities, especially the eastern coast where the intercity population migration is most active. However, these major destinations are not necessarily the healthiest areas for the environment. Second, environmentally friendly cities are mainly located in the southern region. Among them, the areas with less serious atmospheric pollution are mainly distributed in the south, climate comfort zones are mainly located in the southeastern region, but areas with more urban green space are mainly distributed in the northwestern region. Third, compared with socioeconomic factors, environmental health factors have not yet become a major driver of population migration. Migrants often place higher value on income than on environmental health. The government should focus not only on the public service wellbeing of migrant workers, but also on their environmental health vulnerability.

Abstract Thalidomide induces γ-globin expression in erythroid progenitor cells, but its efficacy on patients with transfusion-dependent β-thalassemia (TDT) remains unclear. In this phase 2, multi-center, randomized, double-blind clinical trial, we aimed to determine the safety and efficacy of thalidomide in TDT patients. A hundred patients of 14 years or older were randomly assigned to receive placebo or thalidomide for 12 weeks, followed by an extension phase of at least 36 weeks. The primary endpoint was the change of hemoglobin (Hb) level in the patients. The secondary endpoints included the red blood cell (RBC) units transfused and adverse effects. In the placebo-controlled period, Hb concentrations in patients treated with thalidomide achieved a median elevation of 14.0 (range, 2.5 to 37.5) g/L, whereas Hb in patients treated with placebo did not significantly change. Within the 12 weeks, the mean RBC transfusion volume for patients treated with thalidomide and placebo was 5.4 ± 5.0 U and 10.3 ± 6.4 U, respectively (P

Introduction COVID-19 has posed a serious threat to people worldwide, especially the older adults, since its discovery. Tai Chi as a traditional Chinese exercisethat belongs to traditional Chinese medicine has proven its effectiveness against COVID-19. However, no high-quality evidence is found on the dose–response relationships between Tai Chi and clinical outcomes in patients with COVID-19. This study will evaluate and determine the clinical evidence of Tai Chi as a treatment in elderly patients with COVID-19.Methods and analysis The following electronic bibliographical databases including PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, VIP Database and Wanfang Database will be screened from their inception date to 30 June 2022. All eligible randomised controlled trials or controlled clinical trials related to Tai Chi for elderly patients with COVID-19 will be included. The primary outcomes are forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1), forced vital capacity (FVC) and FEV1/FVC ratio (FEV1%). The secondary outcomes are the time of main symptoms disappearance, length of hospital stay, serum levels of interleukin (IL)-6, IL-1b and tumour necrosis factor-α, and adverse event rate. Two independent reviewers will select the studies, extract the data, and analyse them on EndNote V.X9.0 and Stata V.12.1. The robust error meta-regression model will be used to establish the dose–response relationships between Tai Chi and clinical outcomes. The heterogeneity and variability will be analysed by I2 and τ2 statistics. Risk of bias, subgroup analysis and sensitivity analysis will also be performed. The quality of evidence will be assessed by the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation, and the risk of bias will be evaluated by using the Physiotherapy Evidence Database Scale.Ethics and dissemination This study will review published data; thus, obtaining ethical approval and consent is unnecessary. The vertical geochemical variations in total organic carbon (TOC) content and major and trace elements of the Lower Cambrian Shuijingtuo Formation from the Yichang Slope in the Upper Yangtze were investigated to assess the environmental conditions (redox conditions, water mass restriction, terrigenous input, relative sea-level terrestrial, and paleoproductivity) and to determine the primary controlling factors for organic matter enrichment. The Shuijingtuo Shale is divided into three intervals. The lithofacies of interval I are mainly black siliceous shale with high TOC content, and interval II is mainly black siliceous shale with moderate TOC content. Interval III consists of black, clay-rich siliceous shale and dark-gray calcareous shale and is characterized by a low TOC content. The effects of diagenesis and hydrothermal activity on the elements were evaluated prior to analyzing the environmental condition. There are good positive correlations between TOC and U/Al or Mo/Al ratios, suggesting that major/trace elements still retain the geochemical signature of the sedimentary environment. Meanwhile, the geochemical proxies consisting of Al, Fe, Mn, and Ti indicate that the study area did not experience hydrothermal deposits. The redox proxies (U/Th, Corg:Ptot, and MoEF–UEF) indicate that the interval I samples were formed under a strong reducing condition. The diagram of TOC vs. Mo indicates that the water mass was moderately restricted during the deposition of interval I shales. Proxies of terrigenous input and relative sea-level (Zr/Al and Zr/Rb) suggest that the organic-rich shales at the bottom were deposited under a relatively high sea-level and experienced minimal input of terrigenous debris from the source area. Additionally, the paleoproductivity indicated by Sibio and (Ni + Cu + Zn)/Al was high for interval I samples. During the interval II period, the relative sea-level began to decline, the seawater still remained in reducing conditions, and there was no change in the productivity, but the input of terrigenous debris increased significantly. In the interval III depositional period, the relative sea-level continued to decrease, the seawater shifted to a dysoxic condition, and the paleoproductivity was also at a lower level. The evolution of the sedimentary environment indicates that the high TOC content in the interval I samples is mainly attributed to the strong reducing condition, the preservation condition and debris dilution together control the organic matter content within the interval II samples, and the low TOC content within the interval III samples is constrained by a combination of the poor preservation conditions and lower paleoproductivity.

Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a severe clinical syndrome, and ischemia–reperfusion injury is an important cause of acute kidney injury. The aim of the present study was to investigate the related genes and pathways in the mouse model of acute kidney injury induced by ischemia–reperfusion injury (IRI-AKI).Method: Two public datasets (GSE39548 and GSE131288) originating from the NCBI Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database were analyzed using the R software limma package, and differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified. Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genomes (KEGG) and gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) were performed using the differentially expressed genes. Furthermore, a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed to investigate hub genes, and transcription factor (TF)–hub gene and miRNA–hub gene networks were constructed. Drugs and molecular compounds that could interact with hub genes were predicted using the DGIdb.Result: A total of 323 common differentially expressed genes were identified in the renal ischemia–reperfusion injury group compared with the control group. Among these, 260 differentially expressed genes were upregulated and 66 differentially expressed genes were downregulated. Gene Ontology enrichment and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analysis results showed that these common differentially expressed genes were enriched in positive regulation of cytokine production, muscle tissue development, and other biological processes, indicating that they were involved in mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), PI3K-Akt, TNF, apoptosis, and Epstein–Barr virus infection signaling pathways. Protein-protein interaction analysis showed 10 hub genes, namely, Jun, Stat3, MYC, Cdkn1a, Hif1a, FOS, Atf3, Mdm2, Egr1, and Ddit3. Using the STRUST database, starBase database, and DGIdb database, it was predicted that 34 transcription factors, 161 mi-RNAs, and 299 drugs or molecular compounds might interact with hub genes.Conclusion: Our findings may provide novel potential biomarkers and insights into the pathogenesis of ischemia–reperfusion injury–acute kidney injury through a comprehensive analysis of Gene Expression Omnibus data, which may provide a reliable basis for early diagnosis and treatment of ischemia–reperfusion injury–acute kidney injury.

To investigate the influences of volcanic activities on shale reservoirs, a case study was carried out on the Permian Mount Emei basalt and coal-bearing shale of Longtan Formation in the Southern Guizhou Depression. Based on the analytical results of total organic carbon content, XRD, vitrinite reflectance and cryogenic nitrogen and carbon dioxide adsorptions, the effects of volcanic activities on the hydrocarbon generation, mineral composition and reservoir microstructure of coal-bearing shale were discussed. The results showed that volcanic activities had obvious effects on the hydrocarbon generation, mineral composition and pore structure of coal-bearing shale. They significantly promoted the evolution and maturation of organic matters in shale, which quickly entered the over-mature stage (Ro% increased from 2.0% to 2.88%), and accelerated the hydrocarbon generation and expulsion efficiency. With the decrease of the distance to the basalt, the contents of clastic minerals and carbonate minerals increased, the content of clay minerals decreased, and the contents of illite and chlorite changed regularly, which indicated that the evolution of shale diagenesis had also been affected to a certain extent. The heat brought by volcanic activities had an important influence on the pores of reservoirs. As it got closer to basalt, the proportion of micropores increased while the content of mesopores and macropores decreased. It was speculated that the thermal effects of volcanic activities promoted the formation of organic pores and also affected the development of inorganic pores.

In distant hybridization of fishes, there is a low hatching rate of hybrid progenies. To further understand the causes of low hatchability, in this article, cross-breeding between zebrafish (ZF) and crucian carp (CC) are generated, in which the hatching rate of cross progenies (ZF♀ × CC♂, ZC) is 35.67%, while that of reciprocal cross progenies (CC♀ × ZF♂, CZ) is about zero. The structures and SDS-PAGE protein pattern of egg envelopes in hybrid early embryos are like their maternal fish, however, during the process of embryo development, some differences are detected between the CZ and CC. The hatching enzyme gene 1 (he1) nucleotide sequences from ZF and CC were 85.1% identity, while that of 99.6% identity was between the ZF and ZC, and 98.4% from CC and hybrid of CZ. There are differences in predictive protein physicochemical properties of he1 between CZ and CC, but no significant change in he1 mRNA levels during embryonic development. Our data furtherly verify that the characteristics of egg envelope and hatching enzyme in hybrid progenies are inherited from maternal fish. Moreover, there are obvious differences between CZ and maternal parent in both egg envelope and hatching enzyme during embryonic development, which are considered to be related to its low hatching rate.

Abstract Background The human endometrium in premenopausal women is an active site of physiological angiogenesis, with regenerative cells present, suggesting that the endometrium contains adult angiogenic stem cells. In the context of cardiac repair after ischemic injury, angiogenesis is a crucial process to rescue cardiomyocytes. We therefore investigated whether human endometrium-derived stem cells (hEMSCs) can be used for cardiac repair after ischemic injury and their possible underlying mechanisms. Methods Comparisons were made between hEMSCs successfully isolated from 22 premenopausal women and human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (hBMSCs) derived from 25 age-matched patients. Cell proliferation, migration, differentiation, and angiogenesis were evaluated through in vitro experiments, while the ability of hEMSCs to restore cardiac function was examined by in vivo cell transplantation into the infarcted nude rat hearts. Results In vitro data showed that hEMSCs had greater proliferative and migratory capacities, whereas hBMSCs had better adipogenic differentiation ability. Human umbilical cord vein endothelial cells, treated with conditioned medium from hEMSCs, had significantly higher tube formation than that from hBMSCs or control medium, indicating greater angiogenic potentials for hEMSCs. In vivo, hEMSC transplantation preserved cardiac function, decreased infarct size, and improved tissue repair post-injury. Cardiac metabolism, assessed by 18F-FDG uptake, showed that 18F-FDG uptake at the infarction area was significantly higher in both hBMSC and hEMSC groups, compared to the PBS control group, with hEMSCs having the highest uptake, suggesting hEMSC treatment improves cardiomyocyte metabolism and survival after injury. Mechanistic assessment of the angiogenic potential for hEMSCS revealed that angiogenesis-related factors angiopoietin 2, Fms-like tyrosine kinase 1, and FGF9 were significantly upregulated in hEMSC-implanted infarcted hearts, compared to the PBS control group. Conclusion hEMSCs, compared to hBMSCs, have greater capacity to induce angiogenesis, and improved cardiac function after ischemic injury.

Three-dimensional point cloud classification tasks have been a hot topic in recent years. Most existing point cloud processing frameworks lack context-aware features due to the deficiency of sufficient local feature extraction information. Therefore, we designed an augmented sampling and grouping module to efficiently obtain fine-grained features from the original point cloud. In particular, this method strengthens the domain near each centroid and makes reasonable use of the local mean and global standard deviation to extract point cloud’s local and global features. In addition to this, inspired by the transformer structure UFO-ViT in 2D vision tasks, we first tried to use a linearly normalized attention mechanism in point cloud processing tasks, investigating a novel transformer-based point cloud classification architecture UFO-Net. An effective local feature learning module was adopted as a bridging technique to connect different feature extraction modules. Importantly, UFO-Net employs multiple stacked blocks to better capture feature representation of the point cloud. Extensive ablation experiments on public datasets show that this method outperforms other state-of-the-art methods. For instance, our network performed with 93.7% overall accuracy on the ModelNet40 dataset, which is 0.5% higher than PCT. Our network also achieved 83.8% overall accuracy on the ScanObjectNN dataset, which is 3.8% better than PCT.

To evaluate the effects of quartz precipitation on the abundance and preservation of organic matter pores in marine shale reservoirs, the type of authigenic quartz and the source of silica, as well as the corresponding relation of the Lower Cambrian Shuijingtuo Formation shale in South China were investigated. Quartz in the Shuijingtuo shale occurs as four different types: detrital quartz, replacement of biosiliceous debris, euhedral quartz filled in interparticle pores, and microquartz dispersed in a clay matrix. Euhedral quartz (1–5 μm) and matrix-dispersed microquartz (100–400 nm) are found to be the dominant forms of authigenic quartz. The euhedral quartz accumulates along the interparticle pores, and the porous organic matter fills the interior of the space. Microquartz is mainly wrapped in porous organic matter. Two silica sources were revealed: biogenic silica and clay-derived silica. Biogenic Si is most likely the major source for authigenic quartz in the organic-rich (total organic carbon (TOC) > 2.55 wt.%) samples, which accounts for 23–57 wt.% (average 35 wt.%) of the total Si. Based on petrographic observations, we posit that the precipitation of large-sized euhedral quartz in the interparticle pores most likely originated from biogenic silica in the early stage of diagenesis and that the silica for the clay matrix-dispersed microquartz is provided by biogenic silica and clay-derived silica. The observation of SEM images indicates that the precipitation of early diagenetic euhedral quartz in the interparticle pores enhances rock stiffness, and the buttressing effect can protect the organic matter pores from compaction during the late-stage burial diagenesis. In contrast, the precipitation of late diagenetic microquartz in the clay matrix can lead to a reduction in the capacity of the accommodation space to host retained petroleum, consequently leading to a reduction in the development of organic matter pores and the generation of shale gas.

The fusiform face area (FFA) is a core cortical region for face information processing. Evidence suggests that its sensitivity to faces is largely innate and tuned by visual experience. However, how experience in different time windows shape the plasticity of the FFA remains unclear. In this study, we investigated the role of visual experience at different time points of an individual's early development in the cross-modal face specialization of the FFA. Participants (n = 74) were classified into five groups: congenital blind, early blind, late blind, low vision, and sighted control. Functional magnetic resonance imaging data were acquired when the participants haptically processed carved faces and other objects. Our results showed a robust and highly consistent face-selective activation in the FFA region in the early blind participants, invariant to size and level of abstraction of the face stimuli. The cross-modal face activation in the FFA was much less consistent in other groups. These results suggest that early visual experience primes cross-modal specialization of the FFA, and even after the absence of visual experience for more than 14 years in early blind participants, their FFA can engage in cross-modal processing of face information.

Abstract Background Nerol (C10H18O), an acyclic monoterpene, naturally presents in plant essential oils, and is used widely in food, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals as the valuable fragrance. Meanwhile, chemical synthesis is the only strategy for large-scale production of nerol, and the disadvantages of chemical synthesis greatly limit the production and its application. These defects drive the interests of researchers shift to the production of nerol by eco-friendly methods known as biosynthesis methods. However, the main technical bottleneck restricting the biosynthesis of nerol is the lacking of corresponding natural aroma-producing microorganisms. Results In this study, a novel multi-stress-tolerant probiotics Meyerozyma guilliermondii GXDK6 with aroma-producing properties was identified by whole genome sequencing and metabolomics technology. GXDK6 showed a broad pH tolerance in the range of 2.5–10.0. The species also showed salt tolerance with up to 12% NaCl and up to 18% of KCl or MgCl2. GXDK6 exhibited heavy-metal Mn2+ tolerance of up to 5494 ppm. GXDK6 could also ferment with a total of 21 kinds of single organic matter as the carbon source, and produce abundant aromatic metabolites. Results from the gas chromatography–mass spectrometry indicated the production of 8–14 types of aromatic metabolites (isopentanol, nerol, geraniol, phenylethanol, isobutanol, etc.) when GXDK6 was fermented up to 72 h with glucose, sucrose, fructose, or xylose as the single carbon source. Among them, nerol was found to be a novel aromatic metabolite from GXDK6 fermentation, and its biosynthesis mechanism had also been further revealed. Conclusion A novel aroma-producing M. guilliermondii GXDK6 was identified successfully by whole genome sequencing and metabolomics technology. GXDK6 showed high multi-stress-tolerant properties with acid–base, salty, and heavy-metal environments. The aroma-producing mechanism of nerol in GXDK6 had also been revealed. These findings indicated the aroma-producing M. guilliermondii GXDK6 with multi-stress-tolerant properties has great potential value in the fermentation industry.

Combining with the data of logging resistivity and organic geochemistry, polarizability test and Laser Raman spectra were used to analysze the main controlling factors of ultra-low resistivity (logging resistivity as low as 10-1 Ω·m and below) in the high evolution marine shale of Lower Paleozoic, southern China.Moreover, its internal cause and geological significance were also discussed in this paper.Results showed:1) The abundance and maturity of organic matter (OM) are the main factors affecting the ultra-low logging resistivity.There is a good negative correlation between TOC, logging resistivity and measured resistivity.Increasing of maturity will lead to the decrease in the minimum TOC threshold required to achieve ultra-low resistivity, and the polarizability of shale also increases.2) Graphitized OM is the main "conductive mineral" that causes ultra-low resistivity in high thermal evolution shales.The RmcRo corresponding to the critical point at which the OM begins to graphitize is about 3.5%.Extremely low resistivity is an important indicator that the structure of shale organic matter changed significantly and evolved to graphite.3) Logging response of the ultra-low resistivity is likely to indicate that the quality of shale reservoir has suffered great damage, such as exhaustion of hydrocarbon generation capacity, severely reduction of OM pores and adsorption capacity, and abruptly decline of gas content.Therefore, delineating the range of extremely low resistivity shale and excluding the high-risk area of "OM graphitization" could play a great significance role in shale gas assessment and target selection in high evolution Lower Paleozoic shale.

The Middle-Lower Cambrian Longwangmiao Formation and Gaotai Formation in southeastern Sichuan Basin are gypsum rock layer systems, where gypsum rocks are widely developed and considered to be the Sinian to Middle-Lower Cambrian reservoir seals. Based on the drilling data and 2D seismic profile data, and combined with previous research results, this paper studies the lithologic features, vertical development and plane distribution characteristics of the gypsum rock layer system and analyzes the influence of tectonic compression on the flow deformation and plane distribution characteristics of gypsum rock. The gypsum salt and gypsum bearing lithologies in the Middle-Lower Cambrian gypsum rock layer system in the study area mainly include gypsum rock and dolomitic gypsum rock, as well as gypsiferous dolomite and dolomite with gypsum. The lithologic association and single layer thickness of the gypsum rock layer system vary greatly vertically. The gypsum rocks are widely distributed in the plane, but the accumulated thickness changes greatly. Under tectonic compression, the Middle-Lower Cambrian gypsum rocks in the low-steep folds in the southeastern Sichuan Basin usually flowed into the core of the anticline and obviously thickened. Crumpled, diapir and other associated structures developed. Due to the fluidity of gypsum rock, the plane variation of gypsum rock thickness is related to the structural deformation position of the low-folds, which is generally thickened in the anticline along the strike of the low-steep folds and obviously thinned in the syncline.

The Linnan Subsag is a main hydrocarbon generating area in the Huimin Sag of the Jiyang Depression, Bohai Bay Basin. Oilfields mainly are in the subsag or on the southern and northern faults. Overpressure is found in the Shahejie Formation. Drilling, drill stem test (DST), logging and seismic data as well as the Eaton formula were applied to study the measured pressure characteristics in sandstones, the correspondence between logging and overpressure in both sandstones and shales, and the plane and profile distributions and causes of overpressure. The overpressure depth from DST ranges 3 005 to 4 355 m in sandstones of the Shahejie Formation, the residual pressure is 7.95 to 30.45 MPa, and the pressure coefficient is 1.21 to 1.78. Logged acoustic velocity of shale and sandstone in the overpressure zone is higher than that in the normal pressure zone, and the logged resistance of the overpressure zone is also higher than that of the normal pressure zone. The upper section of the fourth member and the middle and lower sections of the third member of Shahejie Formation mainly develop low overpressure, while medium and strong overpressure also exist regionally. Vertically, overpressure zones mainly occur from 3 000 to 4 500 m depth. There are several medium and strong overpressure zones, mainly in the deep sag and fault zone. The top depth of overpre-ssure zone is 2 500-3 700 m. The high percentage of sandstone leads to the limited distribution of overpressure in the Linnan Subsag. The overpressured sandstone reservoirs in this sag are mainly oil-bearing layers. Hydrocarbon-bearingfluid charging is the main reason for the overpressure of sandstones in the third and fourth members of Shahejie Formation in the Linnan Subsag. The high-quality source rocks are deeply buried. The vitrinite reflectance of the overpressured source rocks is about 0.5% to 1.5%. It is in the oil generation stage and does not have low density characteristics, indicating that oil generation is the main reason for the pressurization of source rocks.
