The 'in-basket' approach is a suitable in-service training method for supervisors and case managers of the developmentally disabled in integrated industrial work sites. On-site visitation, a questionnaire-based needs assessment, and dialogue with on-site and administrative personnel are used to assess the training needs of the supervisors and case managers. Training sessions can be updated, examples of daily encounters and actual events included, and problems identified through the in-basket approach. Procedures and actual workplace materials can serve as ways to introduce and assess trainee work skills. The in-basket approach is derived from a program once used to evaluate instruction and curriculum used by the Air Force's Air Command and Staff School.
