Background: Anemia is a major problem among infants aged under 1 year. There are limited studies in Palestine about anemia among infants. Thus, this study aimed to address this gap. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted. A review of 1249 infants recorded in primary health centers of the West Bank, Palestine was performed during the period from January to December 2022. The collected data included sociodemographic factors, feeding practices, and hemoglobin levels. Descriptive statistics, correlations, and binary logistic regression were performed to analyze the data. Results: The findings showed that 35.2% of infants were anemic, of which 67.2% had mild anemia. The detrimental predictors for anemia were introducing complementary feeding earlier than six months of age, receiving exclusive bottle feeding with complementary feeding (solid or semisolid) at 12 months, and low family income. While receiving exclusive breastfeeding and complementary feeding at 12 months was a protective predictor. Conclusion: Healthcare professionals should develop intervention programs to enhance hemoglobin levels and decrease anemia among infants while considering correlating factors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background Trials of interventions to prevent or treat delirium in older adults resident in long-term care settings (LTC) report heterogenous outcomes, hampering the identification of effective management strategies for this important condition. Our objective was to develop international consensus among key stakeholders for a core outcome set (COS) for future trials of interventions to prevent and/or treat delirium in this population. Methods We used a rigorous COS development process including qualitative interviews with family members and staff with experience of delirium in LTC; a modified two-round Delphi survey; and virtual consensus meetings using nominal group technique. The study was registered with the Core Outcome Measures in Effectiveness Trials (COMET) initiative (https://www.comet-initiative.org/studies/details/796). Results Item generation identified 22 delirium-specific outcomes and 32 other outcomes from 18 qualitative interviews. When combined with outcomes identified in our earlier systematic review, and following an item reduction step, this gave 43 outcomes that advanced to the formal consensus processes. These involved 169 participants from 12 countries, and included healthcare professionals (121, 72%), researchers (24, 14%), and family members/people with experience of delirium (24, 14%). Six outcomes were identified as essential to include in all trials of interventions for delirium in LTC, and were therefore included in the COS. These are: 'delirium occurrence'; 'delirium related distress'; 'delirium severity'; 'cognition including memory', 'admission to hospital' and 'mortality'. Conclusions This COS, endorsed by the American Delirium Society and the European and Australasian Delirium Associations, is recommended for use in future clinical trials evaluating delirium prevention or treatment interventions for older adults residing in LTC. Purpose: This study aims to describe the current conceptualisation of self-management of dementia by family carers in the literature and from the views of dementia professionals and family carers, and to establish a more comprehensive concept of self-management of dementia by family carers. Design/methodology/approach: A hybrid concept analysis included three phases: the theoretical phase reviewed the literature on self-management of dementia by family carers; the fieldwork phase interviewed professionals and family carers; and the analytical phase synthesised and discussed the findings from the previous two phases. Findings: The findings revealed that self-management of dementia by family carers encompasses four domains: supporting care recipients, self-care, sustaining a positive relationship with care recipients, and personal characteristics and skills. Originality/value: The findings highlighted the essential elements of the construct of self-management of dementia by family carers. The findings can be used as a conceptual framework of self-management and are useful in designing and evaluating self-management support interventions for family carers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The double societal hit of dementia and infectious disease outbreaks like the COVID-19 pandemic have raised a convergence of concerns for the future of care settings for people living with dementia. It is estimated that 5.4 million Americans have some form of dementia and these numbers are expected to rise in the coming decades, leading to an unprecedented demand for memory care housing and services. In searching for innovative options to create more autonomy and better quality of life in dementia care settings, repurposing existing structures, in particular vacant urban malls, may be one option for the large sites needed for the European model of dementia villages. These settings may become sustainable Dementia Friendly City Centers, because with enclosed mall construction, the internal infrastructure is in place for lighting and HVAC, with varied spatial configuration of public spaces. This paper describes the community-based focus group research with medical providers who addressed designs for adaptive reuse of an existing closed mall case study site. Focus group outcomes included discussions on four central themes about the adaptive reuse including: applicability of the concept, spectrum of programs, economic feasibility and onsite medical care.
