Two new nonfused ring nonfullerene electron acceptors, NFAs, (dicarbazolyl)bis(2-(3-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1 H -inden-1-ylidene)malononitrile) ( MDCzM-4H ) and -(2-(5,6-fluoro-3-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1 H -inden-1-ylidene)malononitrile) ( MDCzM-4F ), thus exhibiting an A-D 2 -A motif, were synthesized and characterized. As thin films, they exhibit the lowest energy absorption signature near 540 nm, extending down to ∼700 nm. This band is due to an intramolecular charge transfer process from the DCz (nonfused dicarbazoyl; DCz ) moiety to the malononitrile-based units ( M ) based on density functional theory calculations (DFT), which are also corroborated by time-dependent DFT (TDDFT) computations. Both NFAs fluoresce in the near-IR region exhibiting a band maximum peaking near 750 nm with biphasic lifetimes in the 75-410 ps time scale. Electrochemical measurements permitted the determination of their HOMO (∼-5.7 eV) and LUMO (∼-4.0 eV) energies. The absorption bands are complementary to those of the commercial copolymer PTB7-Th , which was used to prepare binary blends for photovoltaic cell performance assessments (ITO/PEDOT:PSS/active layer/PFN-Br/Ag). The power conversion efficiencies (PCE) are found to be 10.17% for MDCzM-4H / PTB7-Th (short-circuit current J SC = 15.87 mA cm -2 ; open-circuit voltage V OC = 1.03 V; fill factor FF = 0.622) and 14.09% for MDCzM-4F / PTB7-Th ( J SC = 20.92 mA cm -2 ; V OC = 0.965 V; FF = 0.698). The use of nonfused ring NFAs achieving such high performances is significant and reveals a path toward simpler NFAs for use in organic photovoltaics.

The development of narrow bandgap A-D-A- and ADA'DA-type non-fullerene small molecule acceptors (NFSMAs) along with small molecule donors (SMDs) have led to significant progress in all-small molecule organic solar cells. Remarkable power conversion efficiencies, nearing the range of 17-18 %, have been realized. These efficiency values are on par with those achieved in OSCs based on polymeric donors. The commercial application of organic photovoltaic technology requires the design of more efficient organic conjugated small molecule donors and acceptors. In recent years the precise tuning of optoelectronic properties in small molecule donors and acceptors has attracted considerable attention and has contributed greatly to the advancement of all-SM-OSCs. Several reviews have been published in this field, but the focus of this review concerns the advances in research on OSCs using SMDs and NFSMAs from 2018 to the present. The review covers the progress made in binary and ternary OSCs, the effects of solid additives on the performance of all-SM-OSCs, and the recently developed layer-by-layer deposition method for these OSCs. Here in, we have designed two new unfused non-fullerene small molecules using asymmetric benzo[1,2-b:3.4-b', 6,5-b"]trithiophene (BTT) as the central donor core and different terminal units i. e., 2-(3-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-1-ylidene)malononitrile (NFA-4) and 1,3-diethyl-2-thioxodi hydropyrimidine-4,6 (1H,5H)-dione (NFA-5) and examined their optical and electrochemical properties. Using a wide band-gap copolymer D18, organic solar cells (OSCs) based on bulk heterojunction of D18:NFA-4 and D18:NFA-5 showed overall power conversion efficiency (PCE) of about 17.07 % and 11.27 %, respectively. The increased PCE for the NFA-4-based OSC, compared to NFA-5 counterpart, is due higher value of short circuit current (J SC ), open circuit voltage (V OC ), and fill factor (FF). Following the addition of small amount of NFA-5 to the binary bulk heterojunction D18:NFA-4, the ternary organic solar cells attained a PCE of 18.05 %, surpassing that of the binary counterparts due to the higher values of which is higher than that for the binary counterparts and attributed to the increased values of J SC , FF, and V OC . The higher value of J SC is linked to the efficient use to excitons transferred from NFA-5 to NFA-4 with a greated dipole moment than NFA-5 and subsequently dissociated into a free charge carrier efficiently., (© 2024 Wiley-VCH GmbH.)

Asymmetric wide-band gap fullerene-free acceptors (FFAs) play a crucial role in organic solar cells (OSCs). Here, we designed and synthesized a simple asymmetric coumarin-anthracene conjugate named CA-CN with optical band gap of 2.1 eV in a single-step condensation reaction. Single crystal X-ray structure analysis confirms various multiple intermolecular non-covalent interactions. The molecular orbital energy levels of CA-CN estimated from cyclic voltammetry were found to be suitable for its use as an acceptor for OSCs. Binary OSCs fabricated using CA-CN as acceptor and PTB7-Th as the donor achieve a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 11.13 %. We further demonstrate that the insertion of 20 wt % of CA-CN as a third component in ternary OSCs with PTB7-Th : DICTF as the host material achieved an impressive PCE of 14.91 %, an improvement of ~43 % compared to the PTB7-Th : DICTF binary device (10.38 %). Importantly, the ternary blend enhances the absorption coverage from 400 to 800 nm and improves the morphology of the active layer. Researchers have been motivated to develop photovoltaic systems that can efficiently convert artificial light into power with the growing use of indoor electrical devices for the Internet of Things. Understanding the impact of molecular design strategies involving morphological optimization through the terminal group of the non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs) is crucial. This is critically important to enhancing the photovoltaic efficiency of organic photovoltaic devices under diverse irradiation conditions. Halogenation of terminal groups proves to be a standout approach for adjusting energy levels, refining light-harvesting capabilities, crystallinity, and bolstering the intermolecular stacking in NFAs. Herein, we have designed two simple NFAs, DICTF-4F and DICTF-4Cl , to explore the dihalogenation (F and Cl) effect on the terminal group on the optical and electrochemical properties. After combining with the BODIPY-thiophene-backboned donor polymer P(BdP-HT), the organic solar cells (OSCs) using an optimized active layer with P(BdP-HT): DICTF-4F and P(BdP-HT): DICTF-4Cl attained a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of about 8.03 and 14.16%, respectively, under 1 sun illumination. Moreover, the OSC-based P(BdP-HT): DICTF-4Cl active layer showed a PCE approaching 24% under 1000 lx indoor conditions.

Background: Rett syndrome (RTT) is a severe X-linked neurodevelopmental disorder associated with multiple neurologic impairments. Previous studies have shown challenges to the quality of life of individuals with RTT and their caregivers. However, instruments applied to quantify disease burden have not adequately captured the impact of these impairments on affected individuals and their families. Consequently, an international collaboration of stakeholders aimed at evaluating Burden of Illness (BOI) in RTT was organized., Methods: Based on literature reviews and qualitative interviews with parents of children and adults with RTT, a caregiver questionnaire was constructed to evaluate 22 problems (inclusive of core characteristics, functional impairments, and comorbidities) often experienced with RTT, rated mainly with a 5-level Likert scale. The questionnaire was administered anonymously online to an international sample of 756 caregivers (predominantly parents) of girls and women with RTT. Descriptive statistics were used to identify problems of high frequency and impact on affected individuals and caregivers. Chi-square tests characterized the relationship between problem severity and impact responses, while nonparametric ANOVAs of raw and z-score adjusted scores identified agreement between severity and impact on individual and caregiver. Secondary inferential tests were used to determine the roles of age, clinical type, and country of residence on BOI in RTT., Results: There was variability in reported frequency of problems, with the most prevalent, severe and impactful being those related to the core features of RTT (i.e., communication and fine and gross motor impairments). Chi-square analyses demonstrated interdependence between severity and impact responses, while ANOVAs showed that many problems had disproportionately greater impact than severity, either on affected individuals (e.g., hand stereotypies) or their caregivers (e.g., sleep difficulties, seizures, pain, and behavioral abnormalities). With certain exceptions (e.g., breath-holding, seizures), age, clinical type, or country of residence did not influence these BOI profiles., Conclusions: Our data demonstrate that core features and related impairments are particularly impactful in RTT. However, problems with mild severity can also have disproportionate impact on affected individuals and, particularly, on their caregivers. Herein, we have designed and synthesized two novel BODIPY dimer-based small molecules, denoted as ZMH-1 and ZMH-2, covalently linked and functionalized with triphenylamine (TPA) (ZMH-1) and carbazole (C Z ) (ZMH-2) units as the electron donor at the 3- and 5-positions of the BODIPY core, respectively. Their optical and electrochemical properties were investigated. We have fabricated all small molecule bulk heterojunction organic solar cells using these BODIPY-based small molecules as electron donors along with fullerene derivative (PC 71 BM) and medium bandgap non-fullerene acceptor IDT-TC as electron acceptors. The optimized OSCs based on ZMH-1:PC 71 BM, ZMH-2:PC 71 BM, ZMH-1:IDT-IC, and ZMH-2:IDT-IC attain overall PCEs of 8.91%, 6.61%, 11.28%, and 5.48%, respectively. Moreover, when a small amount of PC 71 BM as guest acceptor is added to the binary host ZMH-1:IDT-TC and ZMH-2:IDT-TC, the ternary OSCs based on ZMH-1 and ZMH-2 reach PCEs of 13.70% and 12.71%, respectively.

The scarcity of high-quality forage has a significant influence on the productivity and profitability of livestock. Addressing this concern, an investigation was undertaken to assess the effects of distinct Italian ryegrass genotypes, namely, Punjab ryegrass-1, Kashmir collection, and Makhan grass, in conjunction with varying seeding ratios of Italian ryegrass to Egyptian clover. The seeding ratios considered were 100:0 (Italian ryegrass to Egyptian clover), 75:25, 50:50, and 25:75. All possible combinations of Italian ryegrass and Egyptian clover with seeding ratios were set up in a randomized complete block design and replicated thrice. Co-cultivating Italian ryegrass and Egyptian clover at a 75:25 seeding ratio yields the best yield benefit, as determined by the land equivalent ratio. It is noteworthy that in this configuration, real yield loss is higher for Egyptian clover and for Italian ryegrass when the seeding ratio is 25:75. The higher competitiveness of Italian ryegrass in comparison to Egyptian clover is highlighted by the competitive ratio. Notably, the nutritive parameter, crude protein yield, was significantly higher in the Makhan grass-based 50:50 and 75:25 seeding ratio. Results of the study ascertained the compatibility of grass-legume co-cultivation with significantly higher quantity and quality forage harvested under mixed cropping systems whereas Makhan grass as the superior and dominant genotype in comparison to Kashmir collection. Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Hodgsonia heteroclita has been known as an important traditionally consumed medicinal plant of North-East India known to have antidiabetic properties. This study aims to investigate the effects of the ethanolic fruit extract of Hodgsonia heteroclita against hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia by using streptozotocin (STZ) treated diabetic mice., Materials and Methods: The fruits of H. heteroclita were collected from the various parts of Kokrajhar district, Assam India (Geographic coordinates: 26°24'3.85″ N 90°16'22.30″ E). Basic morphological evaluations were carried out by the Botanical Survey of India, Eastern circle, Shillong, who also certified and identified the plant. Hexane, chloroform, and ethanolic extracts of the fruit of H. heteroclita were investigated for α-amylase inhibition assay as a rapid screening tool for examining anti-diabetic activity. The efficacy of ethanolic extract at a dose of 100, 200, and 300 mg/kg body weight was tested for 21 days in STZ-induced diabetic mice. The body weight, fasting plasma glucose and serum lipids, and hepatic glycogen levels were measured in experimental animals to examine the antihyperglycemic and antihyperlipidemic efficacy of the extract. Both HPTLC and LC-MS analysis was performed to examine the phyotochemicals present in the ethanolic extract of H. heteroclita., Results: It has been observed that treatment with the ethanolic extract dose-dependently reduced the plasma glucose levels, total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein-cholesterol, very low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol, triglyceride, and increased the body weight, liver glycogens and high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol in STZ treated diabetic mice. With various strains of the novel coronavirus emerging during the last few years, there is a need to reinvent and manage the tourism industry by engaging various stakeholders. Industry and policymakers need to observe the shift and curate tourism-related products and offerings accordingly. In light of the increasing demand for innovations and future directions in the post-COVID-19 period, this article conducts a bibliometric analysis for sustainable tourism studies spanning the years 1990-2021. This paper presents an integrative review of tourism, environment and sustainable tourism to reveal geographical, contextual, and methodological directions for future research. The comprehensive analysis includes contributions on topics and methods, country collaborations, and thematic analysis. The findings are consistent with the Sustainable Development Goals of sustainable production and consumption (SDG-12), with a particular emphasis on sustainable tourism to promote local culture and create jobs (SDG-12.b) and on sustainable growth (SDG-13). This research presents an in-depth investigation into the dynamic correlation between geopolitical conflicts and carbon markets utilizing the Time-Varying Parameter Vector Autoregression (TVP-VAR) technique. The analysis focuses on the interconnectedness between the Geopolitical Risk Index Daily (GPRD) and vital carbon pricing instruments, specifically the Intercontinental Exchange Endex European Union Allowance (ECEFDC), KraneShares California Carbon Allowance Strat ETF (KCCAK), Shanghai Environment and Energy Exchange China Emission Allowances Online Transactions (SAXCEA), and S&P Global Ex-Japan LargeMidCap Carbon Efficient Index (SPGJ). The daily fluctuations were traced from May 2021 to July 2023. The analysis is divided into short- and long-term connectedness, with particular emphasis on the impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict on the GPRD's spillover on carbon markets. The short-term connectedness (1-5 days) between GPRD and ECEFDC shows variability, fluctuating between 10% and 40%. Conversely, long-term connectedness exhibited a significant increase during the conflict, peaking at approximately 34% by mid-2022. The analysis of the Total Dynamic Connectedness (TCI) between the GPRD and the KCCAK indicates comparable magnitudes, although with minor initial discrepancies. The short-term connectedness of GPRD and KCCAK decreases from its peak of approximately 10% to approximately 1%. Conversely, long-term connectedness varies between approximately 32% and 2% from May 2022 onwards. The long-term connectedness between GPRD and SAXCEA revealed variable patterns, peaking at around 18% at the beginning of the sample period and rapidly reducing to around 1% within two months. The analysis of the connectedness between GPRD and the SPG) identifies intense fluctuations in both TCI and long-term connectedness. After an initial increase and decrease, these patterns rebound and experience another increase. The Covid 19 pandemic led to major changes at the individual, organisational and institutional levels of policy, productive functions, and organising. During Covid 19 morbidity, public institutions enforced social isolation, mandatory self-isolation, quarantines, and administrative regulatory lockdowns, which led to a movement away from the physical, material world and into an all-consuming digital universe. With growing interest in work-from-home (WFH) opportunities, this article provides an integrative review of 107 papers. It comprises the bibliometric analysis and manual review of the articles, on the basis of which we present an elaborative discussion and agenda for future research. According to the analysis, WFH looks a tad of a double-edged sword in that it may have major but unintended repercussions for institutions, and organizations as well as hidden, positive as well as negative consequences for individuals/employees. One of the significant insight from our analysis was the absence of HR function's strategic or operational input or oversight during corporate WFH strategies. We suggest several theoretical frameworks for further developing, theorizing, and empirically testing various aspects of WFH. Further, we recognise that WFH is becoming increasingly visible as a result of the pandemic scenario and significant technical advancements, which must be reflected in the research. Organic solar cells (OSCs) have emerged as a promising technology for renewable energy generation, and researchers are constantly exploring ways to improve their efficiency. For prediction of photovoltaic properties in OSCs, many machine learning models have been used in the past. All the models are used with fixed molecular descriptors and molecular fingerprints as input for power conversion efficiency (PCE) prediction. Recently, the graph neural network (GNN), which can model graph structures of the molecule, has received increasing attention as a method that could potentially overcome the limitations of fixed descriptors by learning the task-specific representations using graph convolutions. In this study, we have used the directed message passing neural network (D-MPNN), an emerging type of GNN for predicting PCE of organic solar cells, and the results are compared for the same train and test set with fixed descriptors and fingerprints. The excellent performance demonstrated by the D-MPNN model in this investigation highlights its potential for predicting PCE, surpassing the limitations of conventional fixed descriptors.

Economic complexity is considered key a driver of social change, structural change, and economic development. Economic complexity is mostly used to capture issues apropos product diversification of exports, trade, technological innovation, human knowledge, and skills. The current study has conducted a detailed bibliometric review of economic complexity, export quality, and trade diversification. In doing so, the authors used the literature up to 2021 to unveil economic complexity's contextual information that witnessed structural change, social change, and trade indicators. The current study is the first integrative review to report the theoretical contribution, future research agendas, and thematic analysis of economic complexity, export quality, and export diversification. Our study, on the subject of economic complexity, export diversification, and import diversification in the period from 1966 to 2021, was carried out by systematically scanning 386 documents, and it is one of the pioneering studies in this field. In addition, economic diversity, development, and economic complexity; export diversification, import diversification, trade openness, and economic growth; energy, environmental Kuznets curve, and economic complexity; and sustainability and economic diversification are the four main research topics of the study. The findings are discussed apropos of economic complexity and exports, methodological aspects of economic complexity, and environmental issues nexus with economic complexity. The current study reports novel findings toward a path for achieving SDG-9 (industry and innovation) and SDG-13 (climate action). The biometric review enables researchers and policymakers to understand export quality, economic complexity, and the trade nexus and report future research directions for achieving sustainable growth in industries and innovation., (© 2023. The prerequisite for commercially viable organic solar cells (OSC) is to reduce the efficiency-stability-cost gap. Therefore, the cost of organic materials should be reduced by minimizing the synthetic steps, yet maintaining the molecular planarity and efficiencies achieved by the fused ring acceptors (FRA). In this respect, developing non-fused ring acceptors (NFRA) with suitable functionalization to favor conformational planarity and effective molecular packing is beneficial and cost-effective. Presently, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) for NFRAs is around 16 %, yet lower than the 19 % achieved for FRAs. Despite their potential, a thorough understanding of the effective structural design of NFRAs is necessary for developing efficient OSCs. In recent years, non-fused non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs) have attracted increasing consideration due to several advantages, which include simple preparation, superior yield, and low cost. In the work reported here, we designed and synthesized three new NFAs with the same cyclopentadithiophenevinylene (CPDTV) trimer as the electron-donating unit and different terminal units (IC for FG10 , IC-4F for FG8 , and IC-4Cl for FG6 ). Both halogenated NFAs, i.e., FG6 and FG8 , show red-shifted absorption spectra and higher electron mobilities (more pronounced for FG6 ) in comparison with FG10 . Moreover, the dielectric constants of these materials also increased upon halogenation of the IC terminal units, thus leading to a reduction in the exciton binding energy, which is favorable for dissociation of excitons and subsequent charge transfer despite the driving force (highest occupied molecular orbital and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital offsets) being very small. The organic solar cells (OSCs) constructed using these acceptors and PBDB-T, as the donor, showed PCE values of 15.08, 12.56, and 9.04% for FG6 , FG8 , and FG10 , respectively. The energy loss for the FG6 -based device was the lowest (0.45 eV) of all the devices, and this may be attributed to it having the highest dielectric constant, which leads to a reduction in the binding energy of exciton and a small driving force for hole transfer from FG6 to PBDB-T. The results indicate that the NFA containing the CPDTV oligomer core and halogenated terminal units can efficiently spread the absorption spectrum to the NIR zone. Non-fused NFAs have a bright future in the quest to obtain efficient OSCs with low cost for marketable purposes.

Herein, simple acceptor-donor-acceptor (A-D-A)-type small molecules denoted as DICTF and DRCTF with modification in terminal units were synthesized and used as electron acceptors. With the tuning of the electron-withdrawing units in electron acceptors, their photovoltaic properties were investigated when combined with low-band-gap BODIPY-thiophene-backboned donor material, named P(BdP-HT). The P(BdP-HT):DICTF-based organic solar cells (OSCs) displayed excellent efficiency of around 11.94%, which is superior to the P(BdP-HT):DRCTF counterpart (8.78%). Although the open-circuit voltage ( V OC ) of the P(BdP-HT):DRCTF-based OSC is greater than that for the P(BdP-HT):DICTF counterpart, the rise in the short-circuit current density ( J SC ) may be attributed to the fact that the P(BdP-HT):DICTF blend displayed impressive panchromatic absorption compared to P(BdP-HT):DRCTF. The improved fill factor (FF) is responsible for the balanced transport of charges in the P(BdP-HT):DICTF-based device. Moreover, the P(BdP-HT):DRCTF- and P(BdP-HT):DICTF-based OSCs showed 17.68 and 21.84%, respectively, under indoor illumination (1000 lx). To the best of our observation, this might be the first report on BODIPY-based donors with power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 21.84% under indoor illumination conditions.

Recently, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of organic solar cells (OSCs) has significantly progressed with a rapid increase from 10 to 19% due to state-of-the-art research on nonfullerene acceptor molecules and various device processing strategies. However, OSCs still exhibit significant open circuit voltage loss (Δ V OC ∼ 0.6 V) due to high energetic offsets and molecular disorder. In this work, we present a systematic investigation to determine the effects of energetic offset and disorder on different recombination losses in open circuit voltage ( V OC ) using 13 different photoactive layers, wherein the PCE and Δ V OC vary in the ranges of 2.21-14.74% and 0.561-1.443 V, respectively. The detailed voltage loss analysis of all these devices was carried out, and voltage losses were correlated with energetic offset and disorder. This has enabled us to identify the key features for minimizing the voltage loss like: (1) a low energy offset between the donor and acceptor molecular states is essential to attain a nonradiative voltage loss (Δ V OC, nrad ) as low as ∼200 meV and (2) Urbach energy, which is a measure of the materials' disorder and packing, should be low for the minimization of the radiative voltage loss (Δ V OC, rad ). In addition, time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy was employed to further understand the exciton dynamics of pristine materials and donor-acceptor blends. It was observed that the absorbers with ultralong exciton lifetime (∼1000 ps) produce higher efficiencies. The current study emphasizes the importance of simultaneously testing photovoltaic performance and active layer exciton dynamics for rational device optimization and opens new prospects for designing novel molecules with fine-tuning of energetic offset and disorder with longer exciton lifetime which is the effective strategy to boost the efficiency of OSCs to their modified Shockley-Queisser (SQ) limit by minimizing radiative and nonradiative voltage losses.

We have designed a new medium bandgap non-fullerene small-molecule acceptor consisting of an IDT donor core flanked with 2-(6-oxo-5,6-dihydro-4 H -cyclopenta[ c ]-thiophene-4-ylidene) malononitrile (TC) acceptor terminal groups ( IDT-TC ) and compared its optical and electrochemical properties with the IDT-IC acceptor. IDT-TC showed an absorption profile from 300 to 760 nm, and it has an optical bandgap of 1.65 eV and HOMO and LUMO energy levels of -5.55 and -3.83 eV, respectively. In contrast to IDT-IC, IDT-TC has an upshifted LUMO energy level, which is advantageous for achieving high open-circuit voltage. Moreover, IDT-TC showed higher crystallinity and high electron mobility than IDT-IC. Using a wide bandgap D-A copolymer P as the donor, we compared the photovoltaic performance of IDT-TC , IDT-IC, and IDT-IC-Cl nonfullerene acceptors (NFAs). Polymer solar cells (PSCs) using P: IDT-TC , P: IDT-IC, and P:IDT-IC-Cl active layers achieved a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 14.26, 11.56, and 13.34%, respectively. As the absorption profiles of IDT-IC-Cl and IDT-TC are complementary to each other, we have incorporated IDT-TC as the guest acceptor in the P: IDT-IC-Cl active layer to fabricate the ternary (P: IDT-TC : IDT-IC-Cl) PSC, demonstrating a PCE of 16.44%, which is significantly higher than that of the binary BHJ devices. The structural flexibility of organic semiconductors offers vast a search space, and many potential candidates (donor and acceptor) for organic solar cells (OSCs) are yet to be discovered. Machine learning is extensively used for material discovery but performs poorly on extrapolation tasks with small training data sets. Active learning techniques can guide experimentalists to extrapolate and find the most promising D:A combination in a significantly small number of experiments. This study uses an active learning technique with a predictive random forest model to iteratively find the most optimal D:A combinations in the search space using various acquisition functions. Active learning results with five different acquisition functions (MM, MEI, MLI, MU, and UCB) are compared. Results reveal that acquisition functions that combine exploitation and exploration (MEI, MLI, and UCB) perform far better than purely exploiting (MM) and purely exploring (MU) acquisition functions. Interestingly, the proposed model can overcome the bottleneck of extrapolating small training data sets and find most promising D:A combinations in relatively fewer experiments.

Purpose: PARK2 is a potential tumour suppressor gene and its genetic alterations (regionic loss) are common across many human cancers. The association of PARK2 germline variations (SNPs) with Parkinson's has been shown, but their association in development and progression of cancer remains elusive. The aim of this study was to identify association of PARK2 polymorphisms (rs1801474, rs1801334) with colorectal cancer in a case control study design., Methods: This case control study included a total of 650 genetically unrelated subjects comprising 300 colorectal cancer cases and 350 healthy controls belonging to North Indian. Both SNPs were analyzed using the PCR-RFLP assay. Statistical analysis for describing risk and association was performed using SPSS-17 software. Structural deviations due to non- synonymous substitutions (S167N and D394N) were analyzed using MD simulations., Results: The genotype distributions of both the SNPs were in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. For both the polymorphisms, the allelic model showed statistically significant risk with OR ~ 1.3. Many of the associations remained significant even after Bonferroni correction (P < 0.00125). The result suggested that both S167N and D394N were deviated from wild type and structures and were stable after 5 ns. The average value of RMSD for backbone atoms was calculated from 5 to 10 ns molecular dynamics simulation data., Conclusion: In conclusion, our study revealed a significant association of PARK2 SNPs with colorectal cancer as well as their relations with other clinical parameters highlighting their contribution towards colorectal cancer susceptibility in North Indian population., (© 2021. Two D-A copolymers consisting of fused ring pyrrolo-dithieno-quinoxaline acceptors are synthesized with different donor units, i.e., benzodithiophene (BDT) with alkylthienyl (P134) and 2-ethylhexyloxy (P117) side chains. These copolymers are used as donors and a narrow bandgap acceptor Y6 to fabricate bulk heterojunction polymer solar cell devices. Owing to the strong electron-deficient fused ring pyrrolo-bithieno-quinoxaline and weak alkyl thienyl side chains in BDT, the polymer solar cells (PSCs) based on P134:Y6 attain the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 15.42%, which is higher than the P117:Y6 counterpart (12.14%). The superior value of PCE for P134:Y6 can be associated with more well-adjusted charge transport, weak charge recombination, proficient exciton generation, and dissociation into free charge carriers and their subsequent charge collection owing to the dense π-π stacking distance and more considerable crystal coherence length for the P134:Y6 thin films. We report the design of novel medium bandgap nonfullerene small molecule acceptor NFSMA SPS-TDPP-2CNRh with A 2 -π-A 1 -π-A 2 architecture, with the molecular engineering of this material comprising a strong electron-accepting backbone unit DPP (A 1 ) as the acceptor, which is attached to the dicyanomethylene-3-hexylrhodanine (A 2 ) acceptor via a furan (π-spacer) linker. We systematically studied its structural and optoelectronic properties. The incorporation of dicyanomethylene-3-hexylrhodanine and furan enhance the light absorption and electrochemical properties by extending π-conjugation and is anticipated to improve V OC by decreasing the LUMO level. The long alkyl chain units were responsible for the better solubility and aggregation of the resultant molecule. Binary BHJ-OSCs constructed with polymer P as the donor and SPS-TDPP-2CNRh as the acceptor resulted in a PCE of 11.49% with improved V OC = 0.98 V, J SC = 18.32 mA/cm 2 , and FF = 0.64 for P: SPS-TDPP-2CNRh organic solar cells. A ternary solar cell device was also made using Y18-DMO and SPS-TDPP-2CNRh as acceptors having complementary absorption profiles and polymer P as the donor, resulting in a PCE of 15.50% with improved J SC = 23.08 mA/cm 2 , FF = 0.73, and V OC = 0.92 V for the P: SPS-TDPP-2CNRh :Y18-DMO solar cell. The ternary OSCs with SPS-TDPP-2CNRh as the host acceptor in the P:Y18-DMO binary film were shown to have improved PCE values, which is mainly attributed to the effective photoinduced charge transfer through multiple networks and the use of excitons from SPS-TDPP-2CNRh and Y18-DMO. Moreover, in the ternary BHJ active layers, the superior stable charge transport that was observed compared to the binary counterparts may also lead to an increase in the fill factor. These results demonstrate that combining medium bandgap and narrow bandgap NFSMAs with a wide bandgap polymer donor is a successful route to increasing the overall PCE of the OSCs via the ternary BHJ concept.

A new acceptor unit anthra[1,2-b: 4,3-b': 6,7-c'']trithiophene-8,12-dione (А3Т) (A2) is synthesized and used to design D-A 1 -D-A 2 medium bandgap donor copolymers with same thiophene (D) and A2 units but different A1, i.e., fluorinated benzothiadiazole (F-BTz) and benzothiadiazole (BTz) denoted as P130 and P131, respectively. Their detailed optical and electrochemical properties are examined. The copolymers show good solubility in common organic solvents, broad absorption in the visible spectral region from 300 to 700 nm, and deeper HOMO levels of -5.45 and -5.34 eV for P130 and P131, respectively. Finally, an optimized polymer solar cell (PSC) based on P131 as the donor and narrow bandgap non-fullerene small molecule acceptor Y6 demonstrated a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of >11.13%. To further improve the efficiency of the non-fullerene PSC, the P130 is optimized by introducing a fluorine atom into the BTz unit, F-BTz acceptor unit, and PCE PSC based on P130: Y6 active layer increased to >15.28%, which is higher than that for the non-fluorinated analog P131:Y6. The increase in the PCE for former PSC is attributed to the more crystalline nature and compact π-π stacking distance, leading to more balanced charge transport and reduced charge recombination. The widespread use of nonfullerene-based electron-accepting materials has triggered a rapid increase in the performance of organic photovoltaic devices. However, the number of efficient acceptor compounds available is rather limited, which hinders the discovery of new, high-performing donor:acceptor combinations. Here, we present a new, efficient electron-accepting compound based on a hitherto unexplored family of well-known molecules: gold porphyrins. The electronic properties of our electron-accepting gold porphyrin, named VC10 , were studied by UV-Vis spectroscopy and by cyclic voltammetry (CV) , revealing two intense optical absorption bands at 500-600 and 700-920 nm and an optical bandgap of 1.39 eV. Blending VC10 with PTB7-Th, a donor polymer, which gives rise to an absorption band at 550-780 nm complementary to that of VC10 , enables the fabrication of organic solar cells (OSCs) featuring a power conversion efficiency of 9.24% and an energy loss of 0.52 eV. Hence, this work establishes a new approach in the search for efficient acceptor molecules for solar cells and new guidelines for future photovoltaic material design.

A new wide-bandgap conjugated D-A polymer denoted as P106 with a medium acceptor dithieno [2,3-e;3'2'-g]isoindole-7,9 (8H) (DTID) unit and strong 2-dodecylbenzo[1,2-b:3,4-b':6,5-b"]trithiophene (3TB) donor units shows an optical bandgap of 2.04 and highest occupied molecular orbital energy level of -5.56 eV. P106 is used as the donor and two nonfullerene acceptors-medium bandgap DBTBT-IC and narrow band Y18-DMO-are used as acceptors for the construction of binary and ternary bulk heterojunction polymer solar cells. The optimized polymer solar cells based on P106 : DBTBT-IC and P106 : Y18-DMO exhibit power conversion efficiencies of 11.76 % and 14.07 %, respectively. The short-circuit current density (22.78 mA cm -2 ) for the P106 : Y18-DMO device is higher than that for P106 : DBTBT-IC (18.56 mA cm -2 ) one, which could be attributed to the more photon harvesting efficiency of the P106 : Y18-DMO active layer. In light of the high short-circuit current densities and fill factors for the Y18-DMO based device and the high value of open circuit voltage of the DBTBT-IC based device, ternary polymer solar cells are fabricated by using ternary active layer (P106 : DBTBT-IC : Y18-DMO) and achieve a power conversion efficiency of 16.49 % with low energy loss of 0.47 eV., (© 2021 Wiley-VCH GmbH.)

Agriculture and the food system emit a considerable amount of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions in the atmosphere. Hence, current researchers, policymakers, and other stakeholders are calling for improving the environmental performance of agriculture. This study utilizes the countries of The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) to investigate the effect of agriculture value-added, pesticide use, renewable energy adoption, human capital, and economic growth on greenhouse gas emissions. The moderation effect of renewable energy use and human capital is also introduced to see whether they can offset agriculture's emissions in these BIMSTEC economies. Having reported a state-of-the-art literature review, the econometric procedure applies the second-generation unit root tests, panel cointegration and panel quantile regression for three preferred model specifications. The result from the Panel quantile regression method reveals a U-shaped relationship between agriculture value-added and greenhouse gas emissions, suggesting the significance of a small farming system. Human capital has a negative effect, whereas pesticide use has a positive effect on greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, the moderation effect of human capital and pesticide use suggests that human capital is not significant enough to offset the effect of pesticide use on the greenhouse gas emissions, whereas the interaction of renewable and pesticide use suggests that renewable energy adoption in the agriculture sector can mitigate the effect of pesticide use on GHG emissions. The effect of central donor core on the properties of A-π-D-π-A donors, where D is a porphyrin macrocycle, cyclopenta[2,1-b:3,4-b']dithiophene is the π bridge, and A is a dicyanorhodanine terminal unit, was investigated for the fabrication of the organic solar cells (OSCs), along [6,6]-phenyl-C71-butyric acid methyl ester (PC 71 BM) as electron acceptor. A new molecule consisting of Ni-porphyrin central donor core (VC9) showed deep HOMO energy level and OSCs based on optimized VC9:PC 71 BM realized overall power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 10.66 % [short-circuit current density (J SC )=15.48 mA/cm 2 , fill factor (FF)=0.65] with high open circuit voltage (V OC ) of 1.06 V and very low energy loss of 0.49 eV, whereas the Zn-porphyrin analogue VC8:PC 71 BM showed PCE of 9.69 % with V OC of 0.89 V, J SC of 16.25 mA/cm 2 and FF of 0.67. Although the OSCs based on VC8 showed higher J SC in comparison to VC9, originating from the broader absorption profile of VC8 that led to more exciton generation, the higher value of PCE of VC9 is owing to the higher V OC and reduced energy loss., (© 2020 Wiley-VCH GmbH.)

Sustainable living has emerged as the need of the hour for mankind in present times. Practitioners, as well as scholarship in the area, are divided over the comparison of financial returns from sustainable indexes vis-à-vis conventional indexes, causing investors' dilemma. These questions loom larger during the times of global crises, such as COVID-19, which have brought sustainability concerns to the limelight. This dilemma of the investors leads us to approach the study on hand. We study the Thomson Reuters/S-Network global indexes (as a proxy for sustainability-based indexes), and their corresponding alternatives, using the daily closing prices from 1 st January 2011 to 29 th June 2020. We apply the time-frequency-based Granger-Causality test, and further attempt to understand the coherence between these indexes before and during the COVID-19 period by using the Wavelet Coherence and phase-difference mechanisms. Our results suggest short-run uni-directional causality from sustainable indexes to conventional indexes whereas bi-directional causality in medium and the long-runs. The coherence is particularly stronger at low frequencies, indicating the long-run coherence with sustainable indexes in the lead during COVID-19. The results and conclusions of the study have important implications for different audiences. COVID-19 has slowed global economic growth and consequently impacted the environment as well. Parallelly, the environment also influences the transmission of this novel coronavirus through various factors. Every nation deals with varied population density and size; air quality and pollutants; the nature of land and water, which significantly impact the transmission of coronavirus. The WHO (Ziaeepour et al., 2008) [1] has recommended rapid reviews to provide timely evidence to the policymakers to respond to the emergency. The present study follows a rapid review along with a brief bibliometric analysis of 328 research papers, which synthesizes the evidence regarding the environmental concerns of COVID-19. The novel contribution of this rapid review is threefold. One, we take stock of the diverse findings as regards the transmission of the novel coronavirus in different types of environments for providing conclusive directions to the ongoing debate regarding the transmission of the virus. Two, our findings provide topical insights as well as methodological guidance for future researchers in the field. Recent trends in food waste and its management have increasingly started to focus on treating it as a reusable resource. The hazardous impact of food waste such as the release of greenhouse gases, deterioration of water quality and contamination of land areas are a major threat posed by food waste. Under the circular economy principles, food waste can be used as a sustainable supply of high-value energy, fuel, and nutrients through green techniques such as anaerobic digestion, co-digestion, composting, enzymatic treatment, ultrasonic, hydrothermal carbonization. Recent advances made in anaerobic co-digestion are helping in tackling dual or even multiple waste streams at once with better product yields. Integrated approaches that employ pre-processing the food waste to remove obstacles such as volatile fractions, oils and other inhibitory components from the feedstock to enhance their bioconversion to reduce sugars. Research efforts are also progressing in optimizing the operational parameters such as temperature, pressure, pH and residence time to enhance further the output of products such as methane, hydrogen and other platform chemicals such as lactic acid, succinic acid and formic acid. The pandemic has affected almost 74 million people worldwide as of 17 December 2020. This is the first study that attempts to examine the nexus between the confirmed COVID-19 cases, deaths, meteorological factors, and the air pollutant namely PM2.5 in six South Asian countries, from 1 March 2020 to 30 June 2020, using the advanced econometric techniques that are robust to heterogeneity across nations. Our findings confirm (1) a strong cross-sectional dependence and significant correlation between COVID-19 cases, deaths, meteorological factors, and air pollutant; (2) long-term relationship between all the meteorological variables, air pollutant, and COVID-19 death cases; (3) temperature, air pressure, and humidity exhibit a significant impact on the COVID-19 confirmed cases, while COVID-19 confirmed cases and air pollutant PM2.5 have a statistically significant impact on the COVID-19 death cases. In this way, the conclusion that high temperature and high humidity increase the transmission of the COVID-19 infections can also be applied to the regions with greater transmission rates, where the minimum temperature is mostly over 21 °C and humidity ranges around 80% for months. From the findings, it is evident that majority of the meteorological factors and air pollutant PM2.5 exhibit significant negative and positive effects on the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases and death cases in the six countries under study. Air pollutant PM 2.5 provides more particle surface for the virus to stick and get transported longer distances. Hence, higher particulate pollution levels in the air increase COVID-19 transmission in these six South Asian countries. This information is vital for the government and public health authorities in formulating relevant policies. The study contributes both practically and theoretically to the concerned field of pandemic management.

This paper examines the nexus between the Covid-19 confirmed cases, deaths, meteorological factors, including an air pollutant among the world's top 10 infected countries, from 1 February 2020 through 30 June 2020, using advanced econometric techniques to address heterogeneity across the nations. The findings of the study suggest that there exists a strong cross-sectional dependence between Covid-19 cases, deaths, and all the meteorological factors for the countries under study. The findings also reveal that a long-term relationship exists between all the meteorological factors. There exists a bi-directional causality running between the Covid-19 cases and all the meteorological factors. With Covid-19 death cases as the dependent variable, there exists bi-directional causality running between the Covid-19 death cases and Covid-19 confirmed cases, air pressure, humidity, and temperature. Temperature and air pressure exhibit a statistically significant and negative impact on the Covid-19 confirmed cases. Air pollutant PM2.5 also exhibits a significant but positive impact on the Covid-19 confirmed cases. Temperature indicates a statistically significant and negative impact on the Covid-19 death cases. At the same time, Covid-19 confirmed cases and air pollutant PM2.5 exhibit a statistically significant and positive impact on the Covid-19 death cases across the ten countries under study. Hence, it is possible to postulate that cool and dry weather conditions with lower temperatures may promote indoor activities and human gatherings (assembling), leading to virus transmission. This study contributes both practically and theoretically to the concerned field of pandemic management. Our results assist in taking appropriate measures in implementing intersectoral policies and actions as necessary in a timely and efficient manner. Organic solar cells (OSCs) that contain small molecules only were prepared with FG1 as the donor, a narrow band gap non-fullerene acceptor MPU4 , and a wide band gap PC 71 BM. The OSCs based on optimized FG1 : MPU4 (1:1.2) and FG1 :PC 71 BM (1:1.5) active layers, respectively, gave power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of 11.18% with a short circuit current ( J SC ) of 19.54 mA/cm 2 , open circuit voltage ( V OC ) of 0.97 V, and fill factor (FF) of 0.59, and 6.62% with a J SC of 12.50 mA/cm 2 , V OC of 0.84 V, and FF of 0.63%, respectively. A PCE of 13.26% was obtained from the optimized ternary FG1 :PC 71 BM: MPU4 (1:0.3:0.9) OSCs and this arises because of the boost in a J SC of 21.91 mA/cm 2 and FF of 0.68. The V OC of the ternary OSCs (0.89 V) lies between those for the OSCs based on FG1 : MPU4 and FG1 :PC 71 BM, which indicates the formation of an alloy of the two acceptors. The increase in J SC and FF in the ternary OSCs may result from the efficient energy transfer from PC 71 BM to MPU4 as well as more charge-transfer donor/acceptor interfaces, enhanced charge carrier mobilities resulting in better adjusted charge transport, and lower bimolecular and trap-assisted recombination. The appropriate phase separation, increased crystallinity, and reduced π-π stacking distance in the ternary active layer are consistent with the enhancement in the FF for OSCs based on a ternary active layer. The results of this work suggest the merging of the fullerene acceptor into the non-fullerene acceptor to form a fullerene/non-fullerene acceptor alloy, and this may be a viable approach to obtain high-performance OSCs.
