The process of building a model or copy of a real-world system and assessing its behaviour under various scenarios is referred to as simulation. Simulation in population genetics is the process of simulating a population's genetic makeup and evolutionary history using mathematical models and computer algorithms. It is important in population genetics for a better understanding of the impact of various evolutionary and demographic scenarios on sequence variation and patterns, it allows investigators to better assess and design analytical methods in the study of disease-associated genetic factors. This is an important tool for studying population genetic diversity and how natural selection, genetic drift, mutation, migration, and other evolutionary forces have influenced the genetic makeup of the population. There are three fundamental frameworks for simulation: coalescent, forward, and resampling methods. Numerous simulators that fit under these frameworks can be compared in terms of their evolutionary and demographic scenarios, computing complexity, and particular applications. Toll-like receptor 4 gene (TLR4) that recognizes the Gram negative bacterial ligand LPS was sequenced in theBos indicusSahiwal cattle breed. Ninety four single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were detected within 10.8 kb gene region. Seventeen of the SNPs were in the coding regions and the one at position 9589(A > G) in exon3 resulted in an amino acid change from Valine to Isoleucine. These SNPs led to generation of 27 TLR4 gene haplotypes. All the Sahiwal animals studied presently showed the occurrence of the genotype CC at gene position 9662, which codes for the amino acid threonine at position 674 of the TLR4 protein, and which had been reported to be associated with lower somatic cell score and, therefore, a lower susceptibility to mastitis, in Taurus cattle. This nucleotide configuration of the Toll-like receptor 4 gene of theBos indicusSahiwal cattle breed could possibly indicate toward a lower susceptibility to mastitis in the Sahiwal animals. Monocyte chemo-attractant protein-1 (CCL2) gene encoding for small inducible cytokine A2 that belongs to the CC chemokine family was also sequence characterized in these Sahiwal animals. The CCL2 gene was observed to have 12 polymorphic sites in 3.3 kb region of which one SNP at position 2500 (A > G) in exon 3 resulted in amino acid change from Valine to Isoleucine at position 46 of the mature CCL2 peptide. The aim of the study was to identify genetic polymorphism in growth hormone (GH) gene locus of six different livestock species using PCR-Direct DNA sequencing method. In exon 5 of GH gene, 10 SNPs variants were identified in all livestock species studied, namelyBubalus bubalis, Bos indicus, Bos frontalis, Bos grunniens, Ovis aries,andCapra hircus. Four SNPs were observed inBubalus bubalis, two SNPs inBos indicus, one SNP inOvis aries, and three SNPs inCapra hircus. No changes were observed inBos grunniensandBos frontaliswhen compared with the template sequence and the SNPs observed in the present investigation may be useful in the marker assisted selection. The article discusses the results of a study examining the genetic and phenotypic characteristics of Surti goat breeds. The authors used microsatellite markers to estimate breed's genetic variability, average body weights and biometrical characteristics. The results showed that 72 percent of breeds had positive deviation from Hardy Weinberg equilibrium through heterozygote deficiency analysis. The article presents a study that investigated the genetic variation in Kanniadu's, goats that are prolific meat breeders thriving in the tropical drought conditions of Tamil Nadu, India. Molecular techniques to generate allelic data from a battery of 25 microsatellite markers were done by isolating genomic DNA from blood samples of 48 unrelated Kanniadus. Understanding the evolutionary history and genetic diversity of livestock species is crucial, and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) has emerged as a robust marker for investigating molecular diversity in animals. Its highly conserved gene content across animal species, minimal duplications, absence of introns, and short intergenic regions make mtDNA analysis ideal for such studies. Mitochondrial DNA analysis has uncovered distinct cattle domestication events dating back to 8000 years BC in Southwestern Asia. The sequencing of water buffalo mtDNA in 2004 provided important insights into their domestication history. Caprine mtDNA analysis identified three haplogroups, indicating varied maternal origins. Sheep, domesticated 12,000 years ago, exhibit diverse mtDNA lineages, suggesting multiple domestication events. Ovine mtDNA studies revealed clades A, B, C, and a fourth lineage, group D. The origins of domestic pigs were traced to separate European and Asian events followed by interbreeding. This urges the need to step up our efforts to promote the sustainable use of animal genetic resources and plan effective strategies for their conservation. Although habitat preservation and restoration are the primary means of conserving biodiversity, genomic technologies offer a variety of novel tools for identifying biodiversity hotspots and thus, support conservation efforts. Conservation genomics is a broad area of science that encompasses the application of genomic data from thousands or tens of thousands of genome-wide markers to address important conservation biology concerns. Genomic approaches have revolutionized the way we understand and manage animal populations, providing tools to identify and preserve unique genetic variants and alleles responsible for adaptive genetic variation, reducing the deleterious consequences of inbreeding, and increasing the adaptive potential of threatened species. The advancement of genomic technologies, particularly comparative genomic approaches, and the increased accessibility of genomic resources in the form of genome-enabled taxa for non-model organisms, provides a distinct advantage in defining conservation units over traditional genetics approaches. The objective of this review is to provide an exhaustive overview of the concept of conservation genomics, discuss the rationale behind the transition from conservation genetics to genomic approaches, and emphasize the potential applications of genomic techniques for conservation purposes. We also highlight interesting case studies in both livestock and wildlife species where genomic techniques have been used to accomplish conservation goals.
