Background and Objectives: Enterococcus faecalis is known as common pathogen for endodontic infections and cause secondary and refractory pulp periapical periodontitis. The bacteria can opportunistically colonize periodontal pockets and presents a possibility of infection developing in other organs. This research will investigate the dissemination of E. faecalis from the gingival tissue to the heart and kidney. Materials and Methods: Three groups were formed, consisting of twelve male Sprague Dawley rats: a control group designated as 0-day, and experimental groups labeled as 7-days and 14-days. Periodontitis induced by concurrent infection with sterile wire 0.2 mm insertion and E. faecalis inoculation is performed into the gingival sulcus located between the maxillary right 1st and 2nd molar teeth area. After euthanasia, tissue samples around the maxillary gingiva, maxillary jaw samples, kidney and heart tissues were obtained for quantitative Real-Time PCR assay and histopathological analysis. Results: Results showed at 7-days, there was an upregulation of E. faecalis gene expression in the gingiva, heart, and kidney samples as well as infiltration of the inflammatory cells at 7-days post induction, which consequently decreased at 14-days. Conclusion: Thus, the study suggests dissemination of E. faecalis from gingival tissue to the heart, kidney which could be probable link between periodontal disease, heart, and kidney disease. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of high intensity interval training (HIIT) in university students to improve their level of burnout. The students involved in the study are medical and allied health students pursuing the course of physiotherapy, dental and pharmacy courses. Materials and methods: A total of 145 participants were screened for their level of burnout with Maslach burnout inventory and their general mental wellbeing was assessed with GHQ 12. Out of which 62 students exhibit mild to moderate burnout. There was drop of 2 students. The study was continued with 60 participants. These were randomly allocated to 2 groups using stratified random sampling using lottery method. The intervention group was HIIT group and the other was control group. The intervention group was given a HIIT program for 6 weeks, 5 days/week. And control group was given education with the help of a pamphlet. Results: The study analyzed burnout and general health for participants before and after the intervention. Burnout was evaluated using its three variables occupational exhaustion (OE), depersonalization (DP), and personal accomplishment (PA). There was significant improvement in all variables within the two groups. OE, DP and GHQ showed more significant increment in intervention group as compared to control group, whereas PA showed a significant decrement in intervention group than control group. Conclusion: A six-week high intensity interval training program was given to medical students and it was compared with exercise education only. Even though there are many contributing factors to these diseases, it is becoming more and more clear that oral health practices and socioeconomic position have a big impact on how they start and advance. Evidences has demonstrated prevelance of dental caries and periodontal disease in individuals from low socioeconomic strata. Oral health habits and access to care are influenced by the social determinants of health. The delivery of health promotion strategies at the population level has shown a great impact on reducing the prevalence of oral diseases. Periodontal diseases are associated with various pathogenic bacteria colonizing the subgingival & supragingival area. Initiation & progression of periodontal infections are altered by local & systemic conditions called risk factors. Systemic risk factors also have been identified as associated co-risk factors. Studies have shown various potentially important risk indicators. A sizeable percentage of patients in clinics have some form of periodontal disease which have to be clinically corelated with risk factors present so that treatment modalities can be altered. This paper discusses various risks for periodontal conditions and their role in regulating the management. It is important to recognize the aetiologic aspect and the pathogenesis of periodontal diseases to identify and appreciate the associated risk factors. Background: Oral mucositis is a common side effect of chemotherapy that can be painftd, distressing and very often compromising the overall quality of life. Information regarding oral care before, during and after chemotherapy is available yet not emphasized upon enough. "Deal with Chemo, Deal with Sores" is an easy to follow, evidence based oral care guideline that was developed specifically for such patient to make information accessible and help in improving the oral health related quality of life. This study was carried out to obtain baseline data of oral health related quality of life (QoL) among patients undergoing chemotherapy and evaluate the acceptability of oral health care protocol "Deal with Chemo, Deal with Sores". Methodology: The impact of chemotherapy on patients' oral health related quality of life (QoL) was obtained using S-OHIP(M) (n=49). This was followed by structured telephonic interview to assess the acceptability of the oral care protocol after two months; the results of which were analyzed qualitatively. Results: The most prevalently affected S-OHIP(M) domains were "physical pain" with mean score of 1.80, "psychological discomfort" 1.73 and "physical disability" 1.45. The highest additive score is 30 with mean of 11.45. Participants reported overall good acceptability of oral health care protocol as it provided "sufficient information", was "trustworthy" and "helped in decision making". Conclusion: It was found that chemotherapy patients experienced physical pain, psychological discomfort and physical disability. "Deal with Chemo, Deal with Sores" was very well accepted by patients, which highlights the importance of oral care in cancer hospitals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
