Abstract Modifications of complexes by attachment of anchor groups are widely used to control molecule-surface interactions. This is of importance for the fabrication of (catalytically active) hybrid systems, viz. of surface immobilized molecular catalysts. In this study, the complex fac-Re(S-Sbpy)(CO)3Cl (S-Sbpy = 3,3′-disulfide-2,2′-bipyridine), a sulfurated derivative of the prominent Re(bpy)(CO)3Cl class of CO2 reduction catalysts, was deposited onto the clean Ag(001) surface at room temperature. The complex is thermostable upon sublimation as supported by infrared absorption and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Its anchoring process has been analyzed using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The growth behavior was directly contrasted to the one of the parent complex fac-Re(bpy)(CO)3Cl (bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine). The sulfurated complex nucleates as single molecule at different surface sites and at molecule clusters. In contrast, for the parent complex nucleation only occurs in clusters of several molecules at specifically oriented surface steps. While this shows that surface immobilization of the sulfurated complex is more efficient as compared to the parent, symmetry analysis of the STM topographic data supported by DFT calculations indicates that more than 90% of the complexes adsorb in a geometric configuration very similar to the one of the parent complex.

Abstract To find the risk of time thresholds of PROM for infectious diseases of term neonates. A multi-center prospective cohort study including pregnancies with PROM at term with a single fetus were conducted. Time thresholds of the duration from PROM to delivery were examined in 2-h increments to assess the rates of infectious neonatal diseases. 7019 pregnancies were included in the study. Neonatal pneumonia and sepsis were most frequent infectious diseases in neonates born from mother with PROM at term. Rates of early-onset pneumonia varied significantly when comparing length of time of PROM greater than 16 h vs. less than 16 h (for EOP in 3 days of life, adjusted OR 1.864, 95% CI 1.159 ~ 2.997, p = 0.010; for EOP in 7 days of life, adjusted OR 1.704, 95% CI 1.104 ~ 2.628, p = 0.016). Neonates born from mother of whom the length of time from PROM to delivery ≥ 16 h were at a higher risk of acquiring EOP.

Bioelectrical signal measurements play a crucial role in clinical diagnosis and continuous health monitoring. Conventional wet electrodes, however, present limitations as they are conductive gel for skin irritation and/or have inflexibility. Here, we developed a cost-effective and user-friendly stretchable dry electrode constructed with a flexible network of Ag/AgCl nanowires embedded in polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). We compared the performance of the stretched Ag/AgCl nanowire electrode with commonly used commercial wet electrodes to measure electrocardiogram (ECG), electromyogram (EMG), and electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. All the signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) of the as-fabricated or stretched (50% tensile strain) Ag/AgCl nanowire electrodes are higher than that measured by commercial wet electrodes as well as other dry electrodes. The evaluation of ECG signal quality through waveform segmentation, the signal quality index (SQI), and heart rate variability (HRV) reveal that both the as-fabricated and stretched Ag/AgCl nanowire electrode produce high-quality signals similar to those obtained from commercial wet electrodes. The stretchable electrode exhibits high sensitivity and dependability in measuring EMG and EEG data, successfully capturing EMG signals associated with muscle activity and clearly recording α-waves in EEG signals during eye closure. Our stretchable dry electrode shows enhanced comfort, high sensitivity, and convenience for curved surface biosignal monitoring in clinical contexts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Rational design of robust photocatalytic systems to direct capture and in-situ convert diluted CO2 from flue gas is a promising but challenging way to achieve carbon neutrality. Here, we report a new type of host-guest photocatalysts by integrating CO2-enriching ionic liquids and photoactive metal-organic frameworks PCN-250-Fe2M (M = Fe, Co, Ni, Zn, Mn) for artificial photosynthetic diluted CO2 reduction in gas-solid phase. As a result, [Emim]BF4(39.3 wt%)@PCN-250-Fe2Co exhibits a record high CO2-to-CO reduction rate of 313.34 μmol g−1 h−1 under pure CO2 atmosphere and 153.42 μmol g−1 h−1 under diluted CO2 (15%) with about 100% selectivity. In scaled-up experiments with 1.0 g catalyst and natural sunlight irradiation, the concentration of pure and diluted CO2 (15%) could be significantly decreased to below 85% and 10%, respectively, indicating its industrial application potential. Further experiments and theoretical calculations reveal that ionic liquids not only benefit CO2 enrichment, but also form synergistic effect with Co2+ sites in PCN-250-Fe2Co, resulting in a significant reduction in Gibbs energy barrier during the rate-determining step of CO2-to-CO conversion. Emulsified meat products are key deep-processing products due to unique flavor and high nutritional value. Myosin dissolves, and protein aggregation and heat-induced gelation occur after myosin unfolds and hydrophobic groups are exposed. Myosin could form interfacial protein membranes and wrap fat globules. Emulsified fat globules may be filled in heat-induced gel networks. Therefore, this review intends to discuss the influences of heat-induced gelation and interfacial adsorption behavior on oil and water retention. Firstly, the mechanism of heat-induced gelation was clarified from the perspective of protein conformation and micro-structure. Secondly, the mechanism of emulsification stability and its factors affecting interfacial adsorption were demonstrated as well as limitations and challenges. Finally, the structure characteristics and application of multi-layer hydrogels in the gelation and emulsification were clarified. It could conclude that the characteristic morphology, spatial conformation and structure adjustment affected heat-induced gelation and interfacial adsorption behavior. Spatial conformation and microstructure were adjusted to improve the oil and water retention by pH, ionic strength, amino acid, oil phase characteristic and protein interaction. Multi-layer hydrogels facilitated oil and water retention. The comprehensive review of gelation and emulsification mechanisms could promote the development of meat products and improvement of meat processing technology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
