Abstract

Large language models (LLMs) enhanced by retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) provide effective solutions in various application scenarios. However, developers face challenges in integrating RAG-enhanced LLMs into software systems, due to lack of interface specification, requirements from software context, and complicated system management. In this paper, we manually studied 100 open-source applications that incorporate RAG-enhanced LLMs, and their issue reports. We have found that more than 98% of applications contain multiple integration defects that harm software functionality, efficiency, and security. We have also generalized 19 defect patterns and proposed guidelines to tackle them. We hope this work could aid LLM-enabled software development and motivate future research.

7. Fabrication of sol-gel derived homogeneously doped Er3+/Yb3+:SiO2 microspheres using laser melting.

Abstract

Silica microspheres have been demonstrated as the optical micro-cavity for laser generation based on whispering-gallery modes (WGM). They can achieve a high-quality factor (Q) within a tiny volume. Traditionally, complex processes are needed to process a coating containing photoluminescent elements, with enough thickness and uniformity, for laser generation. We developed a novel sol-gel fabrication method of Er3+/Yb3+doped silica microspheres with a homogeneous doping concentration over the entire microsphere volume. The sol-gel precursors were doped with 1–2 mol% Er3+ and/or Yb3+. The viscosity of the precursor was controlled at around 4000 cP, and gel fibers can be conveniently drawn from the precursor. After firing at 1000 °C for 1 h, transparent fibers with diameters of 40–180 µm were obtained. The fiber tips were quickly melted into microspheres using a CO2 laser. The diameters of microspheres were determined by the fiber diameter and laser parameters, such as laser power and irradiation time duration. Typically, the microspheres had diameters between 90 to 160 µm. The emission spectrum under 357 nm and 527 nm excitation showed characteristic Er3+ emission peaks, that match the literature well. The UV-VIS spectra confirm the photoluminescence results and showed both Er3+ and Yb3+ characteristic absorptions. The optical behaviors of the microspheres indicate that the Er3+ and Yb3+ were well dispersed in the silica matrix and the microspheres had typical optical activities of Er3+/Yb3+ glasses. Highlights: Silica microspheres, fabricated using laser melting, with homogeneously doped Er3+/Yb3+. No need for multiple layers of Er3+/Yb3+ sol-gel coatings. 21. Performing Volterra Series Based Indirect Learning Digital Pre-Distorter in Self-Homodyne Detection

Abstract

Nonlinear data distortion effect caused by nonlinear transfer function of communication component devices is one critical limitation factor of using high order modulation formats in short-reach optical fiber communications. In order to mitigate the nonlinear distortion effect with memory, indirect learning architecture based digital pre-distorter (ILA-DPD) algorithm has been widely applied for computing a Volterra filter based DPD (Volterra-DPD), which is used as a pre-inverse of nonlinear distortion effect. Given the potential prospect of self-homodyne detection (SHD) for shorter reach optical communications, in this paper, we study the effectiveness of ILA-DPD for a SHD system based on high order quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) format with different input signal powers of modulator by varying output voltage amplitudes of arbitrary waveform generator (AWG). The principle of ILA-DPD algorithm is shown from Volterra series theory. In our work, an arcsin function based DPD (arcsin-DPD) which is proposed for addressing nonlinear transfer function of Mach-Zehnder modulator is considered in ILA-DPD algorithm and performed together with computed Volterra-DPD. The performance of considered DPD scheme is evaluated in a proof-of-concept 25 Gbaud dual polarization 64QAM SHD system with back-to-back (BtB) and 10 km transmissions. Experiment results show that the considered DPD scheme could significantly improve the transmission performance compared with using arcsin-DPD and achieve a better performance than by using a Volterra-DPD alone for relatively higher output voltage amplitude of AWG.

Abstract

Happiness plays an important role in human emotion and one’s growth. In this paper, we use the data from the World Happiness Report, Countries of the World, and Countries Dataset 2020 to discern the relationship the happiness score has with the economy, family, health, freedom, trust, perception of corruption, generosity, and residual. In our research, we used the regression approach to find the most important factors that affect the happiness score in the past five years. Since we observed a positive and moderate relationship between the residual and happiness score, we then looked for other factors that contribute to the residual, the unexplained factor. Finally, we verified the main factors to the happiness score.

Abstract

Multilayer dielectric gratings（MLDGs）have been widely used in chirped pulse amplification due to their high laser induced damage thresholds（LIDTs）. The quest for MLDG LIDT improvement is endless. For MLDGs applied in picosecond(ps) lasers, damage shows the characteristics of both thermal effect and nonlinear effect. The thermal damage of multilayer dielectric films (MLDFs) and MLDGs were investigated using a 1064 nm laser with a duration of 8 ns in our study. Differently from previous 1-on-1 studies, Raster Scan method is adopted to investigate the effect of low-density defects on the laser damage resistance of MLDFs with different top layers and MLDGs. The results show that the LIDTs of MLDGs are half of those MLDFs. For MLDFs with the top layer of HfO2, the damage behaves the ablation of the top layer material due to the surface strong electrical field. For MLDFs with top layer Ta2O5 and SiO2, the typical morphologies are nodule ejections. The initial damage of MLDGs fabricated by etching these three kinds of grating films are similar, and all behave nodule ejections. This indicates that reducing nodule defects can help the MLDGs LIDT improvement in ps pules. These results provide guidance for process optimizations of MLDG fabrication.

Abstract

近年，スマートフォンの普及により，誰もが手軽に自撮りできるようになり，その自撮りした写真をアプリで加工し （ 「盛り」 と呼ぶ），ソーシャル ・ ネットワーキング ・ サービスにアップすることが流行している．「盛り」 の要素の 1 つである 「色味」 には性差が存在することが報告されたが，他の要素については不明である．そこで本研究では，盛りの要素の中で最も代表的な要素である 「目」 に着目した．20 代平均顔の目に対して盛りを段階的に施し，20代の男女55名を対象に，その盛る量 （加工量） と魅力度の関係を調べた．その結果，目に盛る量と魅力度評価には，性別や生活環境 ・ 地域の違いで有意な差がみられなかった．以上の結果より，目に盛る量に関しては，性別・ 生活環境を問わず日本の若者に共通した感性が存在することが示唆された．
