A series of 16 novel prenylated chalcones (5A-5P) was synthesized by microwave-assisted green synthesis using 5-prenyloxy-2-hydroxyacetophenone and different benzaldehydes. Comparisons were also performed between the microwave and conventional methods in terms of the reaction times and yields of all compounds, where the reaction times in the microwave and conventional methods were 1-4 min and 12-48 h, respectively. The synthesized compounds were characterized using different spectroscopic techniques, including IR,
1 H-NMR,13 C-NMR, and LC-HRMS. The antifungal activities of all compounds were evaluated against Sclerotium rolfsii and Fusarium oxysporum under in vitro conditions and were additionally supported by structure-activity relationship (SAR) and molecular docking studies. Out of the 16 compounds screened, 2'-hydroxy-4-benzyloxy-5'-O-prenylchalcone (5P) showed the highest activity against both S. rolfsii and F. oxysporum, with ED50 of 25.02 and 31.87 mg/L, respectively. The molecular docking studies of the prenylated chalcones within the active sites of the EF1a and RPB2 gene sequences and FoCut5a sequence as the respective receptors for S. rolfsii and F. oxysporum revealed the importance of the compounds, where the binding energies of the docked molecules ranged from -38.3538 to -26.6837 kcal/mol for S. rolfsii and -43.400 to -23.839 kcal/mol for F. oxysporum. Additional docking parameters showed that these compounds formed stable complexes with the protein molecules. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

- Abstract
The nonlinear optical semi-organic single crystal with good optical quality was formed through a series of re-crystallization processes using slow evaporation from solution growth method at room temperature. On a Cu
2+ -doped CA5SS single crystal, electron paramagnetic resonance studies have been carried out using the most sensitive EPR spectroscopy with an X-band microwave frequency as an input signal at room temperature. Two magnetically comparable Cu2+ sites were found in the CA5SS single-crystal system based on the angular variation of the EPR hyperfine lines spectra for different crystallographic planes. Sites I and II around the impurity ion Cu2+ in the crystal system are in axial symmetry and rhombic symmetry, respectively, according to the computed spectroscopic splitting factor 'g' and hyperfine splitting factor 'A.' Site I of the two paramagnetic impurity ions is located in the host lattice's substitutional position taking the place of the monovalent (Ca+ ) cation. Site II is located in an interstitial position. The values of the molecular orbital coefficients have been used to calculate the covalent nature of the bonding between the impurity ion and the host lattice. The Rache parameter has been used to compute the information of the ground state wave function of the impurity ion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

- Abstract
The ability to repurpose adsorbent was critical for making the sewage treatment system both premium and environmentally beneficial. Toxic metals ions [Pb(II), Cr(II), and Cd(II)] were removed from effluent discharge using Fe3O4/ZnO nanoparticles as sorbent materials. Chemical affinity, zero potentials, XRD, FTIR, and TEM were used to explore the structural and interfaces adsorption process of Fe3O4/ZnO composite in this study. Experiments on absorption, desorption, and recycling were performed. The findings demonstrate that perhaps the toxic metals substituted for H in the Fe–O–H structure and formed the Zn–O–Me structure, implying that metal elimination was accomplished through ion exchange. Cd(II), Pb(II), and Cr(IV) had 99.81%, 99.76%, 98.1%, respectively, adsorptive degradation efficiency. The Langmuir model was shown to be the best fit for describing the absorption on the surface of Fe3O4/ZnO nanoparticles based on the stability data processing. The kinetic parameters of toxic metal ions on the surface of Fe3O4/ZnO composites were relatively similar to the pseudo-second-order concept, according to the kinetics investigations. The trials proved that reprocessing the Fe3O4/ZnO sorbent extracted from water by a magnetic material was a viable option for removing pollutants in an environmentally acceptable and effective manner.

Mango farmers in Indonesia rely heavily on pesticides to control a variety of pests and diseases, with tephritid fruit flies being a major pest of the crop. To reduce pesticide use, Area-Wide Integrated Pest Management (AW-IPM) to control fruit flies was trialed and introduced in 2015 and has now been successfully implemented in several districts in West Java, Indonesia. This study surveyed pesticide use in mango farms adopting AW-IPM and those practicing conventional pest control methods. Purposive and Snowball sampling methods were used to select and interview 83 mango farmers to assess farmers knowledge and practices of pesticide use between the two groups. The farmers surveyed consisted of those that have adopted AW-IPM of fruit flies and conventional farmers, meaning those that did not adopt AW-IPM. The results of the survey revealed that compared to conventional farmers, the AW-IPM farmers had a high level of knowledge of pesticides and most of them were aware of pesticide-related environmental risks and adopted better and safer practices. Overall, storage of pesticides within living areas was reported by 10% of respondents, and most respondents (75%) adopted unsafe practices when disposing of used pesticide containers, such as selling them to plastic waste collectors. Half of all the respondents reported and experienced at least one symptom of a pesticide-related health problems. This study contributes to a better understanding of potential pesticide exposure and risks to mango farmers in Indonesia. A pesticide management training program for the mango farming community is badly needed.

- Abstract
Background: Since the Coronavirus disease-19(COVID-19) pandemic, the healthcare systems are reallocating their medical resources, with consequent narrowed access to elective surgery for benign conditions such as gallstone disease(GD). This survey represents an overview of the current policies regarding the surgical management of patients with GD during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A Web-based survey was conducted among 36 Hepato-Prancreato-Biliary surgeons from 14 Countries. Through a 17-item questionnaire, participants were asked about the local management of patients with GD since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Results: The majority (n = 26,72.2%) of surgeons reported an alarming decrease in the cholecystectomy rate for GD since the start of the pandemic, regardless of the Country: 19(52.7%) didn't operate any GD, 7(19.4%) reduced their surgical activity by 50–75%, 10(27.8%) by 25–50%, 1(2.8%) maintained regular activity. Currently, only patients with GD complications are operated. Thirty-two (88.9%) participants expect these changes to last for at least 3 months. In 15(41.6%) Centers, patients are currently being screened for SARS-CoV-2 infection before cholecystectomy [in 10(27.8%) Centers only in the presence of suspected infection, in 5(13.9%) routinely]. The majority of surgeons (n = 29,80.6%) have adopted a laparoscopic approach as standard surgery, 5(13.9%) perform open cholecystectomy in patients with known/suspected SARS-CoV-2 infection, and 2(5.6%) in all patients. Conclusion: In the ongoing COVID-19 emergency, the surgical treatment of GD is postponed, resulting in a huge number of untreated patients who could develop severe morbidity. Updated guidelines and dedicated pathways for patients with benign disease awaiting elective surgery are mandatory to prevent further aggravation of the overloaded healthcare systems.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) represent a cutting-edge technology that holds the promise of revolutionizing the conventional tasks carried out in the realm of agriculture. On a global scale, UAVs are gaining prominence for pesticide applications, particularly with a focus on utilizing low spray volumes. Nevertheless, there remains a notable gap in research concerning the impacts of employing low spray volumes on herbicide efficacy. Hence, multi-location field studies were conducted at Agricultural Research Station, Bhavanisagar and Wetland Station, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India in 2022 to evaluate the impact of different spray volumes using UAV and Knapsack Manual Sprayer (KMS) on droplet deposition, droplet density, and weed control efficacy. The treatments included UAV sprays at 30 and 45 L ha-1, as well as KMS at 500 L ha-1, with a weedy check as a control. Bispyribac-sodium 10% SC was applied at a rate of 35 g a.i ha-1 during the 2-to 3-leaf stage of the crops. The results revealed that droplet deposition, area coverage, and volume median diameter were affected by sprayer type (UAV and KMS). However, the two spray volumes tested using the UAV method provided similar droplet parameters. The KMS system at 500 L ha-1 exhibited the highest droplet deposition, while the UAV system achieved better droplet distribution at a spray volume of 30 L ha-1. Remarkably, the UAV system at 30 L ha-1 demonstrated effective weed control, which was statistically comparable to the KMS system at 500 L ha-1. These findings emphasize that the UAV spraying system with a spray volume of 30 L ha-1, delivering effective weed control while utilizing less carrier volume compared to the manual knapsack spraying method. Thus, the UAV spray system has great potential as a viable alternative to manual knapsack spraying for herbicide application in direct-seeded rice.

AIM: There is little evidence to support choice of technique and configuration for stapled anastomoses after right hemicolectomy and ileocaecal resection. This study aimed to determine the relationship between stapling technique and anastomotic failure.METHOD: Any unit performing gastrointestinal surgery was invited to contribute data on consecutive adult patients undergoing right hemicolectomy or ileocolic resection to this prospective, observational, international, multicentre study. Patients undergoing stapled, side-to-side ileocolic anastomoses were identified and multilevel, multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed to explore factors associated with anastomotic leak.RESULTS: One thousand three hundred and forty-seven patients were included from 200 centres in 32 countries. The overall anastomotic leak rate was 8.3%. Upon multivariate analysis there was no difference in leak rate with use of a cutting stapler for apical closure compared with a noncutting stapler (8.4% vs 8.0%, OR 0.91, 95% CI 0.54-1.53, P = 0.72). Oversewing of the apical staple line, whether in the cutting group (7.9% vs 9.7%, OR 0.87, 95% CI 0.52-1.46, P = 0.60) or noncutting group (8.9% vs 5.7%, OR 1.40, 95% CI 0.46-4.23, P = 0.55) also conferred no benefit in terms of reducing leak rates. Surgeons reporting to be general surgeons had a significantly higher leak rate than those reporting to be colorectal surgeons (12.1% vs 7.3%, OR 1.65, 95% CI 1.04-2.64, P = 0.04).CONCLUSION: This study did not identify any difference in anastomotic leak rates according to the type of stapling device used to close the apical aspect. In addition, oversewing of the anastomotic staple lines appears to confer no benefit in terms of reducing leak rates. Although general surgeons operated on patients with more high-risk characteristics than colorectal surgeons, a higher leak rate for general surgeons which remained after risk adjustment needs further exploration.
