The present study elucidated the role of histamine H1 receptor in the caffeine induced locomotor sensitization. Intermittent administration of caffeine (15 mg/kg, i.p.) on alternate days (induction phase) i.e. 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 11th and 13th resulted in the development of locomotor sensitization. In addition, challenge with sub-stimulant dose of caffeine (10 mg/kg, i.p.) directly on 17th day to induction group animals resulted in expression to locomotor sensitization to caffeine. I.c.v. injection of histaminergic agents concomitantly with caffeine during induction phase i.e. histamine H1 receptor agonist, FMPH (6.5 μg/mouse) significantly potentiated while H1 receptor antagonist, cetirizine (0.1 μg/mouse) attenuated the locomotor sensitization induced by caffeine (15 mg/kg, i.p.). In addition, challenge with caffeine (10 mg/kg, i.p.) on the expression day (17th) to the induction group mice on FMPH + caffeine treatment showed enhanced, while those on cetirizine + caffeine treatment exhibited lesser expression to locomotor sensitization. Therefore, a possible contributory role of the central histaminergic system via H1 receptor stimulation or up-regulation in the caffeine-induced locomotor sensitizing effect is proposed.

This study was conducted to estimate the water intake of konkan kanyal goats fed finger millet straw supplemented with varying levels of dried poultry droppings based diet. Thirty konkan kanyal goats aged above 12 months weighing 14.00-14.67 Kg were used in a randomized block design (RBD) experiment. The experimental goats were randomly assigned to five treatments (TI-T5). T1 were goats fed with 0 % dried poultry droppings based diets (DPDBD), T2 were fed with 20 % dried poultry droppings based diets (DPDBD), T3 were fed with 40 % dried poultry droppings based diets (DPDBD), T4 were fed with 60 % dried poultry droppings based diets (DPDBD), T5 were fed with 80 % dried poultry droppings based diets (DPDBD. Water was offered at 5 L per goats daily. Water and feed refusal were recorded on a daily basis before feeding in the morning. Feed and feaces samples were analyzed for proximate constituents. Live weight changes were also measured. Results revealed that treatment groups supplemented with dried poultry droppings based diets had superior water intake compared to the control group. Daily water intake of the experimental goats was 1.4, 2.2, 3.5, 2.7, and 1.7 L per head, respectively. Konkan kanyal goats fed finger millet straw supplemented with varying levels of dried poultry dropping based diets requires up to 3.5 L of water per head per day for optimum utilization of the feed.

A present study was conducted at Dr. BSKKV, Dapoli (Maharashtra) to evaluate the birth weight and body measurements viz., height at wither, body length and heart girth of Konkan Kanyal goats were 2.093±0.009 kg and 27.93±0.052, 26.65±0.045 and 25.96±0.045 cm, respectively. Significantly heaviest birth weight (2.24±0.04 kg) and body measurements viz., height at wither (28.75±0.24 cm), body length (27.45±0.22 cm) and heart girth (26.66±0.20 cm) were observed in the year 2005. The kids born in South west monsoon season was observed significantly higher in birth weight (2.2±0.02 kg) and body measurements viz., height at wither, body length and heart girth as 28.41±0.14, 27.14±0.09 and 26.30±0.11 cm, respectively. The least square means of type birth weight and body measurements viz., height at wither, body length and heart girth of single born kids were 2.15±0.01 kg, 28.17±0.07, 26.92±0.06 and 26.17±0.06 cm, respectively. The sex showed significant effect on birth weight and body measurements, the male goat was 2.15±0.01 kg heavier than the female 2.03±0.01 kg. The higher body measurements of 28.32±0.08 cm height at wither, 27.08±0.07 cm body length and 26.30±0.07 cm heart girth were found in male than the body measurements of female as 27.48±0.07 cm wither height, 26.31±0.06 cm body length and 25.63±0.05 cm heart girths, respectively. It was concluded that the significant effect of non-genetic factors on birth weight and body measurements at birth.

Fifteen Konkan Kanyal goats of 6, 9, and 12 months of age (5 goats each group) were selected randomly and slaughtered for the experiment. The pre-slaughter weight of Konkan Kanyal goats was significantly differed at the age of 6, 9 and 12 months of 11.68±0.43, 16.2±0.43 and 19.3±0.43 kg, respectively. The dressing per cent was 49.1±0.45, 51.11±0.45 and 51.25±0.45 per cent, respectively in 6, 9 and 12 months of age. The slaughter age of goats had non-significant effect on the composition of primal cuts except rack and leg. The primal cuts comprised 9.75±0.23, 10.1±0.23 and 10.5±0.23 per cent of loin at the slaughter age of 6, 9 and 12 months, respectively. The corresponding values of rack were 11.4±0.19, 12.8±0.19 and 13.0±0.1 per cent, neck and shoulder were 25.8±0.58, 26.8±0.58 and 27.9±0.58 per cent, breast and shank were 18.8±0.55, 20.2±0.55 and 19.8±0.55 per cent and leg were 32.1±0.35, 30.3±0.35 and 28.7±0.35 per cent, respectively. The organoleptic qualities of Konkan Kanyal goat's meat did not differ significantly at 6, 9 and 12 months of slaughter age. The overall acceptability was recorded for the slaughter age of 9 months followed by 6 and 12 months. The highest score was 7.90±1.12 and 7.87±1.09 points for general appearance and flavour, respectively at 9 months slaughter age and the lowest score of 7.33±1.10 points was recorded for the juiciness at 12 months of slaughter age. The highest score for tenderness and juiciness 7.84±1.10 point was recorded at 6 months of slaughter age. The chemical components did not vary significantly due to age at slaughter of the different primal cuts. The moisture, protein, fat and ash content in the range of 74.80±0.99 to 79.15±0.48 per cent, 17.24±0.55 to 20.39±0.36 per cent, 77±0.13 to 2.58±0.19 per cent and 0.85±0.06 to 1.34±0.08 per cent, respectively.
