Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) has garnered significant attention in the field of dentistry due to its wide applications. This paper proposes the incorporation of the nystatin coated copper oxide (CuO) particles having desirable conductivity and antifungal properties, as a filler in the PMMA denture to address their low thermal conductivity, low impact strength, low fatigue resistance, and microbial adhesion. The prepared nystatin coated CuO particles were characterized with several analytical techniques. The nystatin coated CuO particles were mixed in different ratios (0%, 1%, 2%, and 4%) in PMMA corresponding to groups C, E1, E2, and E3, respectively. The prepared samples of composite PMMA with nystatin coated CuO were evaluated to determine their transverse strength, impact strength, Vickers hardness (HV), and thermal conductivity. Furthermore, antifungal properties of CuO particles, nystatin coated CuO particles, and their acrylic composites were evaluated against Candida albicans. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis confirmed the particles' spherical and irregular shapes. The particle sizes range from nano to micron level. Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and energy dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy (EDX) analysis confirmed the coating of nystatin on CuO. X‐ray diffraction (XRD) analysis showed the diffraction patterns and planes of CuO monoclinic shape structure. The composite prepared to have higher values of HV (19.53 ± 0.65, 20.16 ± 0.37, and 21.11 ± 0.75, respectively) as compared to the control. The impact strength values were measured high at 14.12 ± 5.55 kJ/m2 for 2% containing nystatin coated CuO acrylic resins compared to control and other groups. The conductivity increased linearly with the addition of CuO particles. The addition of CuO particles causes a reduction in flexural strength as compared to the control group. As the concentration of nystatin coated CuO (1%, 2%, and 4%) in acrylic samples increased, the antifungal properties were improved. Thus, the incorporation of optimized concentrations of nystatin coated CuO particles in acrylic resin resulted in the improved mechanical, thermal, and antifungal properties. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To explore the effect of geraniol on cyclophosphamide- induced cardiotoxicity. Methods: Mice were divided into five groups: the control group, the cyclophosphamide group (200 mg/kg cyclophosphamide, i.p. on day 7), the group treated with geraniol 100 and 200 mg/kg from day 1 to day 14, along with a single dose of cyclophosphamide on day 7, and the geraniol alone group (200 mg/kg geraniol from day 1 to day 14). At the end of the study, animals were sacrificed, and blood and heart were collected and analyzed for biochemical, histopathological, and immunohistochemical changes. Results: Treatment with 200 mg/kg geraniol significantly reduced the levels of cardiac injury markers, malondialdehyde, and inflammatory and apoptotic markers, while increasing antioxidant activities in mice with cyclophosphamide-induced cardiotoxicity. Moreover, it remarkably alleviated histopathological aberrations in cardiac tissue. Conclusions: Geraniol attenuates cyclophosphamide-induced cardiotoxicity via antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiapoptotic effects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Access to time delay in a projectile-target scattering is a fundamental tool in understanding their interactions by probing the temporal domain. The present study focuses on computing and analyzing the Eisenbud-Wigner-Smith (EWS) time delay in low energy elastic e − C 60 scattering. The investigation is carried out in the framework of a non-relativistic partial wave analysis (PWA) technique. The projectile-target interaction is described in (i) Density Functional Theory (DFT) and (ii) Annular Square Well (ASW) static model, and their final results are compared in details. Objective: To develop and explore the use of PEGylated poly (propylene imine) dendritic architecture for the delivery of an anti bacterial bioactive, Trimethoprim. Methods: For this study, PEGylated poly(propylene imine) dendritic architecture was synthesized and loaded with Trimethoprim and targeted to the resistant producing strains of both gram positive and gram negative. The antibacterial activity was carried out by agar well-diffusion method to compare zone of inhibition with standard drug and plain PPI dendrimer. Results: The study showed that the Trimethoprim loaded dendrimer has significant antibacterial activity than the plain PPI dendrimer, but standard drug was not shown zone of inhibition upon both microorganisms but Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae) the pure drug showed activity. Conclusions: In this study antibacterial activity of synthesized system is also relatively safer and holds potential to deliver any other antibacterial agent to the resistant producing strains.

Objective: To evaluate the anti inflammatory activity of leaves extracts of Jatropha gossypifolia (J. gossypifolia) L. Methods: The plant J. gossypifolia L. (Eurphorbiaceae) is known as belly ache bush. The plant originated from Brazil and it is now cultivated in tropical countries throughout the world. The roots, stems, leaves, seeds and fruits of the plant have been widely used in traditional folk medicine in many parts of West Africa. The young stem of the plant is used as tooth brush as well as to clean tongue in the treatment thrush. The tuber of the plant grinded into a paste is also locally used in the treatment of hemorrhoids. The present study aimed to evaluate the anti inflammatory activity of aqueous and alcoholic extract of J. gossypifolia leaves by in vitro HRBC membrane stabilization method. Results: The in vitro method showed significant anti inflammatory property of different extracts tested. Conclusions: The aqueous extract at a concentration of 200 μg/mL showed significant activity when compared with the standard drug Diclofenac sodium.

Innovative drug delivery systems based on iron oxide nanoparticles (INPs) has generated a lot of interest worldwide and have prime biomedical benefits in anticancer therapy. There are still issues reported regarding the stability, absorption, and toxicity of iron oxide nanoparticles (INPs) when administered due to its rapid surface oxidation and agglomeration with blood proteins. To solve this problem, we have synthesized trehalose-coated stabilized iron oxide nanoparticles (TINPs) by a co-precipitation technique. The surface coating of INPs with trehalose helps to improve the stability, prevents protein binding, and increase absorption uptake inside the body. Developed TINPs was then loaded with anticancer drug cytarabine by chemical crosslinking encapsulation method using suitable solvent. Engineered cytarabine-loaded trehalose-coated stabilized iron oxide nanoparticles (CY-TINPs) were optimized for particle size, zeta potential (−13.03 mV), and solid-state characterization such as differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), and transmission electron microscope (TEM) studies. The particle size of 50 nm was achieved for developed CY-TINPs. The developed CY-TINPs was further evaluated for in vitro cell line investigations which confirmed potential cytotoxic activity. Developed CY-TINPs show remarkable enhancement in in vivo pharmacokinetic parameters Cmax as 425.26 ± 2.11 and AUC0–72 as 11,546.64 ± 139.82 as compared to pure drug. Compared to traditional drug delivery, the CY-TINPs formulation can effectively delay release, improve bioavailability, and boost cytotoxic activity against tumors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
