Abstract

Objective: To look for the low levels of haemoglobin and ferritin among the patients of chronic kidney disease (CKD) Stage-5 not undergoing dialysis and factors related to the presence of low levels of haemoglobin and ferritin. Study Design: Cross-sectional study. Place and Duration of Study: Department of Nephrology, Pak Emirates Military Hospital, Rawalpindi Pakistan, from Feb 2019 to Jan 2021. Methodology: A total of 800 cases were included in the study, diagnosed as chronic kidney disease Stage-5 in the nephrology outpatient department (OPD) by a consultant nephrologist who did not require hemodialysis. Haemoglobin and ferritin levels were recorded in all patients at the time of assessment in the outpatient department. In addition, the relationship of various factors was assessed with low haemoglobin and ferritin among the study participants. Results: Out of 800 non-dialysis chronic kidney disease patients in the study, 421(52.7%) patients were males and 379(46.3%) were females. Of the participants, 471(58.9%) had either low ferritin or hemoglobin levels, while 329(41.1%) did not show low haemoglobin and/or ferritin levels. Abstract

Objective: To assess the use of C-reactive protein in patients with STEMI and NSTEMI to differentiate between the type of myocardial infarction at our hospital. Study Design: Comparative cross-sectional study. Place and Duration of Study: Department of Medicine, Pak Emirates Military Hospital, Rawalpindi and Armed Force Institute of Cardiology & National Institute of Heart Disease, from Mar 2020 to Feb 2022. Methodology: Patients diagnosed with MI by a consultant cardiologist were included in the study. They underwent all baseline investigations, including C reactive protein, at the time of presentation to a cardiac emergency. The treating consultant diagnosed MI (ST elevation or non-ST elevation) based on electrocardiogram findings. Values of C reactive protein and other socio-demographic variables were compared in both groups (patients with and without ST elevation MI). Results: A total of 3500 patients with myocardial infarction were included in the final analysis. 2219(63.4%) had NSTEMI,while 1281(36.6%) had STEMI. Abstract

This study presents a comprehensive analysis of particle production in proton-proton ($pp$) collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV using Pythia~8 event generator. We investigate the transverse momentum $p_T$ spectra of light charged hadrons ($\pi^\pm$, $K^\pm$ and $p(\bar p)$), their yield ratios ($\pi^-/\pi^+$, $K^-/K^+$ and $\bar{p}/p$), and $p_T$-differential ratios ($(K^++K^-)/(\pi^++\pi^-)$, $(\overline{p}+p)/(\pi^++\pi^-)$) and mean transverse momentum ($\langle p_\mathrm{T} \rangle$). Our analysis employs various Pythia~8 tunes (Simple, Vincia, and Dire) to explore the impact of different model configurations on particle production. We optimize a key parameter ($p_\mathrm{T}HatMin$) within each tune to achieve the best agreement between the simulated \ppt spectra and those measured by the CMS collaboration. Interestingly, we find that the optimal values for $p_\mathrm{T}HatMin$ differ between hadron species, potentially reflecting the influence of particle mass on production mechanisms. It is not possible to simultaneously and qualitatively describe both, the strangeness enhancement and collectivity in $pp$ collisions from \pythia~8. Further investigation such as final-state effects such as color ropes or junctions may require to explain these effects. 17. University Students' Perception of MOOCs Based on MOOC Instructional Design Elements

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate university students' overall perception of MOOCs based on the instructional design elements of MOOCs. Due to the increase in enrollment in MOOCs, it is essential to understand students' general perception of them. Additionally, only a few studies have been conducted on MOOCs in developing countries. Given the latest trends in online learning, it is important to understand students' perception of MOOCs. Furthermore, MOOCs are one of the most talked-about and latest trends in e-learning. For this study, a quantitative research design was employed, and data were collected from 266 students studying in various universities in Pakistan, using a survey questionnaire. The data were analyzed using different statistical techniques. The results of this study indicated that each element of MOOC instructional design elicited a positive perception among students. Moreover, it was noticed that among all the elements of MOOC instructional design, active learning and meaningful connection demonstrated the strongest correlation with intended perception.

Abstract

In this paper, we explore the chaotic signatures of the geodesic dynamics for particles moving in the slowly rotating Hartle-Thorne spacetime; an approximate solution of vacuum Einstein field equations describing the exterior of a massive, deformed, and slowly rotating compact object. We employ the numerical study to examine the geodesics of prolate and oblate deformations for generic orbits and find the plateaus of the rotation curve, which are associated with the existence of Birkhoff islands in the Poincare surface of the section, where the ratio of the radial and polar frequency of geodesics remains constant throughout the island. We investigate various phase space structures, including hyperbolic points and chaotic regions in the neighborhood of resonant islands. Moreover, chaotic behavior is observed to be governed by the stickiness phenomenon, where chaotic orbits remain attached to stable ones for an extended duration before eventually diverging and are attracted toward the surface of the neutron star. The precision of the numerical integration used to simulate the particle's trajectories plays a crucial role in the structures of the Poincare surface of the section. We present a comparison of several efficient structure-preserving numerical schemes of order four applied to the considered non-integrable dynamical system and we investigate which schemes possess the canonical property of the Hamiltonian flow. Among the class of non-symplectic integrators, we employ the explicit Runge-Kutta method and explicit general linear method with a standard projection technique to project the numerical solution onto the desired manifold. The projection scheme admits the integration without any drift from the desired manifold and is computationally cost-effective. Abstract

In this article, we try to capture the influence of deviation from standard Kerr black hole spacetime on observed high-frequency quasi-periodic oscillations signal. We explore the dynamics of test particles in the field of rotating compact objects governed by the various modifications of the standard Kerr black hole spacetime and apply the model of epicyclic oscillations of Keplerian discs to the observed microquasars and active galactic nuclei high-frequency quasi-periodic oscillations data. We presented a generalized formalism for the fitting of the high-frequency quasi-periodic oscillations models so-called epicyclic resonance and relativistic precession models, under the assumption of stationary, axisymmetric, and asymptotically flat spacetimes. Recently, we have used the same set of stationary, axisymmetric, and asymptotically flat spacetimes, and estimated the restrictions of spacetime parameters with the help of hot-spot data of three flares observed at Sgr~A* by GRAVITY instrument \citep{Shahzadi-et-al:2022:EPJC:}. The aim of this work is not to test a particular theoretical model or to determine and constrain its parameters, but to map a set of well-astrophysically motivated deviations from classical Kerr black hole spacetime and demonstrate which ones provide the best fit for high-frequency quasi-periodic oscillations data and could be fruitful for future exploration., Comment: 19 pages, 6 figures, 1 table
