Background: Assessing the progress of labor is a primary step in intrapartum care. This study was performed to assess comparison of the effects of date syrup with saffron-honey syrup on the progress of labor in nulliparous women. Materials and Methods: A randomized single-blind clinical trial study was conducted on 189 women who were referred to Bea'sat Hospital of Sanandaj from October 2019 to March 2020. Patients were randomly divided into three groups saffron-honey syrup, date syrup, and placebo syrup each including 63 cases. Each participant in the intervention and control groups received a maximum volume of 150 ml of saffron-honey syrup, date syrup, or placebo syrup. The syrups were given at the 4 cm dilation, and every 30-60 min until the end of the active phase of the first stage of labor. Data collection tools included a two-part questionnaire and a partograph form. The results were analyzed by Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) 24 using Chi-squared test, analysis of variance, and last significant difference as a post hoc test, the significance level was set at 0.05. Results: The duration of the active phases of the first (F2 = 92.70, p < 0.01), second (F2 = 66.76, p < 0.01), and third (F2 = 12.34, p < 0.01) stages of labor was shorter in the date syrup and saffron-honey syrup groups than in the control group (p < 0.01). Additionally, both experimental groups exhibited no significant difference in terms of duration between the first (p = 0.312), second (p = 0.724), and third (p = 0.911) stages of labor. Objectives: Caesarean section is one of the most common gynecological surgeries of women. In the traditional method, the patients are prohibited by the surgeon from eating and drinking until the presence of bowel sounds or the passage of flatus after caesarean section surgery. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of early oral feeding on post-caesarean pain in patients undergoing caesarean section. Materials and Methods: This clinical trial was conducted on126 women with repeat caesarean deliveries referring to hospital in Divandareh in the northwest of Iran from 2016 to 2017. The samples were randomly divided in to groups of intervention (early feeding) and control (routine feeding). The severity of pain was recorded before and 6, 12, 18, and 24 hours after the intervention. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS version 21.0. Descriptive statistics and analytical statistics, including t test, paired t-test and repeated measures ANOVA were used. The P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The mean pain severity in the intervention group was significantly lower compared to the control group at 6, 12, 18, and 24 hours after the intervention (P < 0.001). Background: Menopause is one of the natural processes in women's life. Post-menopausal bleeding is the most common cause of elder women referred to gynecologic clinic. The aim of this study was to study the pathological evaluation of abnormal uterine bleeding among women referred to besa'at hospital. Methods: This study is a descriptive study. The total number of 48 postmenopausal women with bleeding who referred to besa'at hospital within one year was included. Patient's characteristics were registered with check list. Data was analyzed with SPSS16 and descriptive statistics. Results: The results showed that the average age was 58.04 ±6.98 years. The most common of pathology finding (39.6%) was endometrial atrophic. Other findings were hyperplasia (20.8%), hormonal disorder ((14.6%), polyps (12.5%), endometrial cancer (2.1%). Endometrial atrophic among patient with 48 to 59 years old were more common. In the age group 48 to 59 years, 3.1% had cancer and 40.6% had endometrial atrophy. Among patients who past 6-10 years of their menopause 6.7% had cancer and 40% had endometrial atrophic. Patients with 6-10 child had 4.8% cancer and 47.6% endometrial atrophic. Background and Objectives: Mother who is overweight and obese before pregnancy are known to be at risk of uterine dysfunction, induction and cesarean section. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between pre pregnancy body mass index and the childbirth method. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 1354 pregnant women were recruited randomly in Besat Hospital in Sanandaj (the capital of Kurdistan province in the West of Iran). Inclusion criteria were singleton term pregnancy, having medical records, and referring to the health care center up to the 12th week of pregnancy. Data collection was done through two parts questionnaires including: demographic characteristic and question regard to route of delivery. Results: The incidence of overweight (BMI>26) was thirty-eight percent. Chi-square test proved a significant statistical relation between body mass index and induction (p<0.05) and delivery route (p < 0.05). There was significant relation between cesarean causes and BMI (p<0.05). Conclusions: Obese and overweight women need more attention during pregnancy. In this regard, training, nutrition and health consultation, and reaching appropriate weight before pregnancy can improve mother and newborn health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and Objectives: Prostaglandin analogs such as misoprostol and dinoprostone are used for ripening of cervix and stimulation of uterine contractions in order to induce vaginal delivery. The aim of this study was: to compare the efficacy of vaginal misoprostol versus dinoprostone for induction of term pregnancies. Materials and Methods: This study subjects were pregnant women who referred to maternity ward. A total of 84 women with singleton pregnancy of 37 weeks of gestational age with cephalic presentation, and low bishop scores were recruited. The subjects were randomized to receive either 25 μg misoprostol or 3 mg of dinoprostone intra vaginaly every 6 hours for a maximum of 2 doses. Results: There was no significance difference in rate of cesarean section between groups. Rate of cesarean in misoprostol group was 45.2%. Abnormal fetal heart rate 57.9%, meconium passage 26.3%, non-response to induction 15.8% and in dinoprostone group the rate of cesarean section was 5o%. Abnormal fetal heart rate in 42.9%, meconium passage in 23.8%, non-response to induction in 23.8% and arrest of labor in 9.5% were the clinical indications of cs in dinoprostone group. Conclusion: This study showed that cesarean section in both groups was high. Furthermore, abnormal fetal heart rate and fetal distress in misoprostol group were higher than dinoproston group. Introduction: To choose the best mode of delivery (vaginal versus caesarean section) still remains a contentious issue. Caesarean section is a major abdominal surgery with its related medical, anesthetic and surgical complications. Maternal mortality and morbidity is higher in caesarean section compared with vaginal delivery. The most common causes of maternal mortality during caesarean section are due to anesthesia, bleeding and infection., Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the mode of delivery and maternal outcomes in Sanandaj's hospital, Iran, during one year., Materials and Methods: The study population included all women who were admitted for delivery in Sanandaj's Hospital. Data collection instrument was a researcher made questionnaire. Data were entered into SPSS version 20.0 and analyzed using Chi-square test. Desired outcomes were entered into multiple logistic regression models. For estimating the parameters and increasing the level of significance we used bootstrap to generate 1000 samples., Results: During the study, a total of 5984 deliveries were conducted in Sanandaj Hospital, of which 3423 (57.20%) were vaginal (vaginal, vaginal + episiotomy, instrumental delivery) and 2561 (42.80%) were caesarean section. The results showed a statistically significant association between delivery mode and demographic variables such as age, occupation and level of education; whereas, no significant association was found between place of residence and parity., Conclusion: The finding of this study showed that caesarean section delivery rate in Sanandaj was 42.80% in 2012-2013 which is higher than caesarean section rate recommended by WHO. Also, there was a relationship between mode of delivery and maternal outcomes.

Background: The experience of labor and birth, referred to as childbirth, is complex, multidimensional, and subjective, relating to both the outcome and the process that is experienced by an individual woman. The aim of this study was to describe the experience of childbirth among Kurdish women giving birth at Besat Hospital in Sanandaj, Iran., Materials and Methods: A qualitative study was conducted using phenomenological approach. Women eligible for the study were recruited from the postpartum ward. Inclusion criteria were being an Iranian Kurdish woman, being nulliparous, and having vaginal childbirth. Data collection was performed between 2010 and 2011. Women were interviewed by the first researcher 6-12 weeks after they had given birth to their first child., Results: All participants had spontaneous vaginal births without their husbands present. None of them received any analgesia or anesthesia during labor and birth. The findings are described under the following four themes: Feeling empowered, changing life, importance of being supported during labor, and the spiritual dimensions of giving birth., Conclusions: Women communicate through telling stories and create meaning as they articulate their feelings about pivotal life events such as childbirth. The findings of this study provide a useful first step toward the identification of aspects of Kurdish women's experience of giving birth. The women in this study identified that the presence or absence of effective support had a significant effect on their experience of labor and birth. It is important for midwives and other professionals to understand the benefits of support given for women during childbirth.
