Rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) is the second most widely grown premium oilseed crop globally, mainly for its vegetable oil and protein meal. One of the main goals of breeders is producing high-yield rapeseed cultivars with sustainable production to meet the requirements of the fast-growing population. Besides the pod number, seeds per silique (SS), and thousand-seed weight (TSW), the ovule number (ON) is a decisive yield determining factor of individual plants and the final seed yield. In recent years, tremendous efforts have been made to dissect the genetic and molecular basis of these complex traits, but relatively few genes or loci controlling these traits have been reported thus far. This review highlights the updated information on the hormonal and molecular basis of ON and development in model plants (Arabidopsis thaliana). It also presents what is known about the hormonal, molecular, and genetic mechanism of ovule development and number, and bridges our understanding between the model plant species (A. thaliana) and cultivated species (B. napus). This report will open new pathways for primary and applied research in plant biology and benefit rapeseed breeding programs. This synopsis will stimulate research interest to further understand ovule number determination, its role in yield improvement, and its possible utilization in breeding programs.

A conducting hollow cylinder body is positioned in the center of a horizontal layer of fluid that is heated mixed half vertically and cooled from below and above, representing the physical model under consideration. The purpose of this paper is to investigate conjugate heat transfer of mixed convection and entropy generation of nanofluid in the presence of an external magnetic field via computational approach in an enclosure with a solid block. The thermal conductivities of the body are carefully varied from 0.2 to 5. In addition, a square conducting body is meticulously analyzed using a multi-domain approach. A robust comparison is drawn between the behavior of conducting bodies and adiabatic and neutral isothermal bodies. Notably, for a dimensionless thermal conductivity of 5, the patterns of fluid flow, isotherms, and the associated Nusselt number exhibit an 11 % error compared to an adiabatic body. Additionally, when the dimensionless thermal conductivity is set to 5, the characteristics and Nusselt numbers clearly resemble those of a neutral isothermal body. Furthermore, the results are swiftly contrasted with pure natural convection at a dimensionless thermal conductivity of one.

Introduction Disparities in supporting carers of people with dementia exist in carer populations. The WHO developed an evidence-based iSupport for Dementia programme to address the disparities. However, evidence on how to embed the iSupport programme in routine health and aged care services to optimise support for carers remains largely unknown.Methods and analysis This study will apply a hybrid type II effectiveness-implementation trial to evaluate the embedment of two iSupport innovations: ‘usual iSupport’ and ‘tailored iSupport’ in health and aged care services in Australia and China. The RE-AIM framework informed the study design. Three aged care organisations in Australia, two public hospitals and a community health centre in China will participate in the trial by delivering the two iSupport innovations to 158 carers of people with dementia with 79 carers in each intervention group using a randomised controlled trial design. The effectiveness of the two iSupport innovations will be determined by measuring the quality of life and self-efficacy of carers, and the quality of life of people with dementia, unplanned hospital admissions, emergency department presentations and admissions to permanent nursing homes and perceived quality of care of people with dementia at baseline, 3 months and 6 months. The effectiveness of strategies used to embed the iSupport innovations in routine care services will be evaluated using qualitative data collected from focus groups or interviews with carers, staff and management involved in the study and records from the participating organisations.Ethics and dissemination Ethics approval was obtained from Flinders University (project number: 5819), Xi’an Jiaotong University (project number: 2023–1629) and Zunyi Medical University (project number: KLL-2023–245). We will obtain informed written or oral consent from participants in the trial. We will publish the results in peer-reviewed journals to disseminate the study and generate impact on policy and practice changes.Trial registration number ACTRN12623000323628; The Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry (ANZCTR); registered on 27 March 2023.

Abstract Issue Biomedical approaches want to change locals’ behaviors without understanding the sociocultural rationales and contextualizing the cultural and structural backdrop of women’s agency. Objectives This study explored the perceptions and practices of rural mothers about fertility and reproductive health and further examine the lack of preference for contraception and birth spacing in Southern Pakistan. Methodology Using purposive sampling we recruited 15 healthcare providers and 20 mothers from Southern Punjab. Key informants and in-depth interviews were used for data collection. We extracted themes and sub themes to analyse qualitative data. Findings Five major themes identified preventing birth spacing and contraceptive use: (1) cultural barriers (2) economic difficulties and demographic factors; (3) gender-related hurdles; (4) spiritual and religious obstacles, and (5) medico-ethical complications. Nearly, ten sub-themes contributing to these major themes were: custom of girls’ early marriages, in-laws’ permission for contraception, women’s concern for medical complications and preference for safer methods, misuse of contraceptive methods by the medical community, mothers’ perception of contraception as sinful act and controlling birth is against faith, economic and rural-ethnic factors for high fertility, masculine disapproval of condom use, and wishing to give birth to male children. Suggestions We advocate for understanding the sociocultural explanations for low contraceptive use and urge practice of more natural methods of birth spacing over commercial solutions. The study suggests socio-economic development of less developed communities and empowerment of poor, illiterate, and rural women along with behavior change communication strategies.

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) stands out as the world's most vital staple food crop, yet is susceptible to UV-B radiation stress. This study investigates the physiological and transcriptome responses in rice exposed to titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs) under UV-B radiation. Results demonstrate that TiO2 NPs, applied alone (TN) or in combination with UV-B stress (UV+TN), significantly enhance rice plant growth and physiological parameters. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, elevated under UV-B stress, are significantly reduced by TN and UV+TN treatments, thereby regulating antioxidants particularly involved in ascorbate-glutathione pathway. Transcriptomics analysis of identified DEGs in UV+TN, utilizing KEGG pathway analysis, reveals significant enrichment in various pathways. These pathways include glutathione metabolism, pyruvate metabolism, starch and sucrose metabolism, regulation of basal transcription factors, plant hormonal signal transduction pathways, cellular processes associated with energy, and the MAPK signaling pathway. Overall, TiO2 NPs application modulates diverse biological and metabolic pathways, enhancing UV-B stress tolerance in rice.

The integration of nanoparticles (NPs) into agriculture is altering traditional methods, enhancing productivity and sustainability. This study explores the application of iron oxide nanoparticles (FeONPs) to mitigate salt-alkaline stress in cherry tomatoes. We investigated FeONPs at three concentrations (FeONP25, FeONP50, FeONP100 mg/kg soil) in pot experiments under non-stress (NS) and salt-alkaline stress (SAS) conditions. SAS conditions decreased biomass and nutrients in untreated plants, a trend reversed by FeONPs. FeONPs treatments significantly boosted pigment levels under SAS, thereby increasing chlorophyll a (10.65–43.05%), chlorophyll b (7.19–41.33%), total chlorophyll (9.84–42.49%), and carotenoids (8.97–36.09%) compared to the control. FeONPs also reduced NPQ under stress, indicating enhanced photosynthetic efficiency. Oxidative stress markers (H2O2, O₂−, and MDA) were strongly induced in control plants but significantly declined with FeONPs treatments. Antioxidants and osmoregulatory substances significantly improved with FeONPs, thereby demonstrating their potential to alleviate SAS in cherry tomato plants.

Abstract Background The demand for mental health services in Australia is substantial and has grown beyond the capacity of the current workforce. As a result, it is currently difficult for many to access secondary healthcare providers. Within the secondary healthcare sector, however, peer workers who have lived experience of managing mental health conditions have been increasingly employed to intentionally use their journey of recovery in supporting others living with mental health conditions and their communities. Currently, the presence of peer workers in primary care has been limited, despite the potential benefits of providing supports in conjunction with GPs and secondary healthcare providers. Methods This stepped-wedge cluster randomised controlled trial (RCT) aims to evaluate a lived experience peer support intervention for accessing mental health care in primary care (PS-PC). Four medical practices across Australia will be randomly allocated to switch from control to intervention, until all practices are delivering the PS-PC intervention. The study will enrol 66 patients at each practice (total sample size of 264). Over a period of 3–4 months, 12 h of practical and emotional support provided by lived experience peer workers will be available to participants. Scale-based questionnaires will inform intervention efficacy in terms of mental health outcomes (e.g., self-efficacy) and other health outcomes (e.g., healthcare-related costs) over four time points. Other perspectives will be explored through scales completed by approximately 150 family members or carers (carer burden) and 16 peer workers (self-efficacy) pre- and post-intervention, and 20 medical practice staff members (attitudes toward peer workers) at the end of each study site’s involvement in the intervention. Interviews (n = 60) and six focus groups held toward the end of each study site’s involvement will further explore the views of participants, family members or carers, peer workers, and practice staff to better understand the efficacy and acceptability of the intervention. Discussion This mixed-methods, multi-centre, stepped-wedge controlled study will be the first to evaluate the implementation of peer workers in the primary care mental health care sector. Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks (UWSNs) are essential for a number of environmental and oceanographic monitoring applications. However, they face different and more complex challenges than terrestrial wireless sensor networks (TWSNs). The main challenges faced by UWSNs are limited include high propagation delays, poor bandwidth, low throughput, and high energy consumption. Replacing sensor batteries in such networks becomes extremely difficult as they are usually deployed in remote areas where limited human interaction is possible. The unbalanced and inefficient usage of energy by various network nodes poses another issue, as it may reduce the applicability and feasibility of the network. Therefore, proposing Energy-Efficient Routing Protocols (E-ER-Ps) is crucial to improve the performance and lifespan of these networks. Due to the challenges mentioned earlier, this research presents an extensive analysis of several different E-ER-Ps intended for UWSNs. We compare contemporary approaches that use machine learning (ML) with conventional protocols, as ML-based approaches have shown significant potential in resolving the intricate challenges faced by UWSNs. This paper aims to present a critical review of different E-ER-Ps from various prospects for UWSNs. To better comprehend the structure and uses of these protocols, we provide an innovative taxonomy for their classification. While ML-based protocols are evaluated for their flexibility, predictive power, and overall efficiency advancements, traditional protocols are evaluated based on their routing tactics and energy-efficiency improvements. A thorough comparative analysis highlights the advantages, disadvantages, and possible uses for different protocols. Furthermore, a critical analysis of ML’s function, incorporating intelligent and adaptive routing approaches, is presented, highlighting the technology’s potential to completely alter UWSN management. To formulate and implement E-ER-Ps for UWSNs, the article concludes by highlighting the present obstacles, including the need for real-time flexibility, resilience to environmental alters, and interaction with pre-existing network infrastructures. The development of ML-based approaches, hybrid approaches that combine conventional and ML-based methodologies, and the design of protocols that can adapt dynamically to the changing circumstances of underwater habitats are highlighted as future research objectives. This research provides the foundation for future advancements in this crucial field by presenting a comprehensive overview of the state-of-the-art UWSN E-ER-Ps.

Introduction: Aboriginal Australians face significant health disparities, with hospitalisation rates 2.3 times greater, and longer hospital length of stay, than non-Indigenous Australians. This additional burden impacts families further through out-of-pocket healthcare expenditure (OOPHE), which includes additional healthcare expenses not covered by universal taxpayer insurance. Aboriginal patients traveling from remote locations are likely to be impacted further by OOPHE. The objective of this study was to examine the impacts and burden of OOPHE for rurally based Aboriginal individuals. Methods: Participants were recruited through South Australian community networks to participate in this study. Decolonising methods of yarning and deep listening were used to centralise local narratives and language of OOPHE. Qualitative analysis software was used to thematically code transcripts and organise data. Results: A total of seven yarning sessions were conducted with 10 participants. Seven themes were identified: travel, barriers to health care, personal and social loss, restricted autonomy, financial strain, support initiatives and protective factors. Sleeping rough, selling assets and not attending appointments were used to mitigate or avoid OOPHE. Government initiatives, such as the patient assistance transport scheme, did little to decrease OOPHE burden on participants. Family connections, Indigenous knowledges and engagement with cultural practices were protective against OOPHE burden. Conclusion: Aboriginal families are significantly burdened by OOPHE when needing to travel for health care. Radical change of government initiative and policies through to health professional awareness is needed to ensure equitable healthcare access that does not create additional financial hardship in communities already experiencing economic disadvantage.

Microcephaly, Guillain-Barré syndrome, and potential sexual transmission stand as prominent complications associated with Zika virus (ZIKV) infection. The absence of FDA-approved drugs or vaccines presents a substantial obstacle in combatting the virus. Furthermore, the inclusion of pregnancy in the pharmacological screening process complicates and extends the endeavor to ensure molecular safety and minimal toxicity. Given its pivotal role in viral assembly and maturation, the NS2B-NS3 viral protease emerges as a promising therapeutic target against ZIKV. In this context, a dipeptide inhibitor was specifically chosen as a control against 200 compounds for docking analysis. Subsequent molecular dynamics simulations extending over 200 ns were conducted to ascertain the stability of the docked complex and confirm the binding of the inhibitor at the protein's active site. The simulation outcomes exhibited conformity to acceptable thresholds, encompassing parameters such as root mean square deviation (RMSD), root mean square fluctuation (RMSF), ligand-protein interaction analysis, ligand characterization, and surface area analysis. Notably, analysis of ligand angles bolstered the identification of prospective ligands capable of inhibiting viral protein activity and impeding virus dissemination. In this study, the integration of molecular docking and dynamics simulations has pinpointed the dipeptide inhibitor as a potential candidate ligand against ZIKV protease, thereby offering promise for therapeutic intervention against the virus.

In this work, for the first time, we have analyzed and compared the responses of polar mesosphere winter echoes (PMWE) and their summer counterpart, polar mesosphere summer echoes (PMSE), to high-frequency (HF) heating in terms of modulated characteristics (i.e., backscatter intensity reduction, recovery, and overshoot). Both PMWE and PMSE observations were from the same site (Tromsø, Norway; 69.6°N, 19.2°E) and radar (EISCAT [European Incoherent Scatter Scientific Association] very high frequency, 224 MHz). The heating patterns of both PMWE and PMSE were found to be similar; however, PMSE was more greatly affected by HF heating. Polar mesosphere summer echoes showed recovery and overshoot more frequently than did PMWE. In addition, the mean recovery and overshoot of PMSE were greater than those of PMWE. The associated electron temperature enhancement was estimated for both PMWE and PMSE and showed that, compared with PMWE, the electron temperature enhancement was more significant in PMSE. The strong heating effects on PMSE may be due to the considerable increase in electron temperature.

Abstract Background Studies revealed that supporting residents fulfilling self-determination is positively associated with their health, wellbeing and quality of life. Cross-cultural care poses significant challenges for nursing home residents to fulfil their self-determination in control of own care and maintaining meaningful connections with others. The aim of the study was to compare factors affecting residents fulfilling self-determination in ethno-specific and mainstream nursing homes. Methods A qualitative descriptive approach was applied to the study. Culturally competent care and person-centred care were employed as guiding frameworks. Individual interviews or a focus group with residents and family members were conducted to collect data. Results In total, 29 participants participated in the study. Three main themes were identified: communicating needs and preferences; mastering own care; and maintaining meaningful relationships. Each theme includes sub-themes that detail similarities and differences of factors affecting residents fulfilling self-determination in the two type nursing homes. Findings indicate that residents from both types of nursing homes experienced challenges to communicate their care needs and preferences in daily care activities. Moreover, residents or their representatives from both types of nursing homes demonstrated motivation and competence to master residents’ care based on their individual preferences, but also perceived that their motivation was not always supported by staff or the nursing home environment. Residents’ competence in mastering their care activities in ethno-specific nursing homes was based on the condition that they were given opportunities to use a language of choice in communication and staff and the nursing home demonstrated culturally competent care for them. In addition, ethno-specific nursing homes showed more recourse to support residents to maintain meaningful relationships with peers and others. Conclusions Culturally competent care created by staff, nursing homes and the aged care system is a basic condition for residents from ethnic minority groups to fulfil self-determination. In addition, person-centred care approach enables residents to optimise self-determination.

(1) Background: The maltreatment of child labourers is a major public health concern. There is a dearth of research in Bangladesh on the intentional maltreatment of child labourers. This study explored the risk factors for the maltreatment of child labourers in rural Bangladesh based on the knowledge and understanding of experts; (2) Methods: Seventeen interviews were conducted with experts who were sampled using a purposeful approach. A thematic analysis was performed to analyse data using NVivo; (3) Results: Child labourers were exposed to maltreatment due to their demographic, their young age, dropping out of school, health complications, and excessive dependency on employers. Socio-cultural adversities such as corporal punishment practices, social stratification, and family disorganization pose risks of experiencing maltreatment. Economic poverty is also a factor. Child labourers were found to be victimized if they worked in violence prone sectors. Significantly, the unregulated market structure and the lack of monitoring has also led to the exploitation of children in the workplace. Gaps in public policies were also identified as risk factor for the maltreatment of child labourers; (4) Conclusion: There is a need for adequate evidence-based research on the determinants of the maltreatment of child labourers to formulate adequate policy.

This paper presents a novel polarization-insensitive dual-band frequency-selective surface (FSS)-based electromagnetic shield. The miniaturized FSS unit cell consists of a modified Jerusalem crossed loop and a corner-modified square loop. These FSS elements are arranged in a co-planner configuration over a single-layer Rogers 5880 substrate and simultaneously offer effective shielding in the X- and Ku-bands. Moreover, the FSS manifests polarization-independent and angularly stable band-reject filter characteristics over various oblique angles of incidence for both the TE and TM polarizations with virtuous attenuation at both resonances. In addition, the FSS structure is modelled into an equivalent lumped circuit to better analyze the phenomenon of EM wave suppression. A finite prototype of FSS is fabricated and tested. The simulated and measured results are in good agreement, thus making it a potential candidate for RF shielding/isolation applications.

Abstract Aim Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) is the main tertiary hospital that has performed more than 600 biopsies since its establishment. Although Indigenous people in Australia’s Northern Territory (NT) has the highest rate of renal replacement therapy, the histopathology pattern of their renal diseases is still under discussed. We aimed to analyse the histopathology pattern of patients undergoing renal biopsy in RDH from June 2007 to June 2020. Secondary aims include clinical indication and survival analysis of patients with kidney biopsies. Methods We conducted a retrospective cohort study on all native kidney biopsy reports from patients over the age of 16, from June 2007 to June 2020. Descriptive statistics was used to summarise age, sex, indigeneity, histopathological pattern, and mortality. Categorical values were expressed as absolute frequencies and percentages. Survival analysis was performed using multivariate analyses and Cox proportional hazard regression model. Results There were 364 native renal biopsies included in the analysis. Sub-nephrotic proteinuria was the most common clinical indication for kidney biopsy (n = 160,47.8%). Diabetes nephropathy (DN) was the most common pathological finding (n = 71,12.8%). Background: Child labourers are highly prone to maltreatment mostly perpetrated by members of their immediate family as well as employers and co-workers. This maltreatment is considered to be a serious public health issue. However, little is known about this form of violence. Purpose: This study aimed to explore the views of key informants on the prevalence and attributes of perpetrators of the maltreatment of child labourers in Bangladesh. Methods: The key experts were paediatricians, journalists, academics, and government bureaucrats such as policy makers and Non-Government Organisation employees working in the area of child abuse or labour relations. Interviews were purposefully conducted via TEAMS with 17 expert participants. A thematic analysis using NVivo was used to analyse the data. Results: The key informants were of the opinion that the prevalence of the maltreatment of child labourers was unknown. However, they were of the view that physical maltreatment of child labourers occurred between 70% and 100% of the time, while emotional abuse and neglect was estimated to be 100% followed by 50% for financial exploitation. Child maltreatment is more likely to occur in informal workplace environments. Biological and foster parents were considered the primary perpetrators, while employers and adult co-workers were considered secondary perpetrators. Perpetrators of child labour maltreatment were often characterized as having a history of childhood maltreatment themselves, a lack of knowledge of social awareness and parenting, and suffer from economic difficulties. Conclusion: The finding also calls into question the validity of key informant interviewing. Only the journalists, academics and medical experts had first-hand knowledge of the maltreatment of child labourers with experts in the NGO sector and government policy makers lacking detailed knowledge of the field.

Abstract Background The majority of people with dementia are cared for by their family members. However, family carers are often unprepared for their caring roles, receiving less education and support compared with professional carers. The consequences are their reduced mental and physical health and wellbeing, and that of care recipients. This study protocol introduces the ‘Partnership in iSupport program’ that includes five interventional components: managing transitions, managing dementia progression, psychoeducation, carer support group and feedback on services. This health services research is built on family carer and dementia care service provider partnerships. The aims of the study are to evaluate the effectiveness, cost-effectiveness and family carers’ experiences in the program. Methods A multicentre randomised controlled trial will be conducted with family carers of people living with dementia from two tertiary hospitals and two community aged care providers across three Australian states. The estimated sample size is 185 family carers. They will be randomly assigned to either the intervention group or the usual care group. Outcomes are measurable improvements in quality of life for carers and people with dementia, caregiving self-efficacy, social support, dementia related symptoms, and health service use for carers and their care recipients. Data will be collected at three time points: baseline, 6 months and 12 months post-initiation of the intervention. Discussion This is the first large randomised controlled trial of a complex intervention on health and social care services with carers of people living with dementia in real-world practice across hospital and community aged care settings in three Australian states to ascertain the effectiveness, cost-effectiveness and carers’ experiences of the innovative program. We expect that this study will address gaps in supporting dementia carers in health and social care systems while generating new knowledge of the mechanisms of change in the systems. Findings will strengthen proactive health management for both people living with dementia and their carers by embedding, scaling up and sustaining the ‘Partnership in iSupport program’ in the health and social care systems. Radiation therapy against cancer frequently fails to attain the desired outcomes because of several restricting aspects. Radiation therapy is not a targeted antitumor treatment, and it poses serious threats to normal tissues as well. In many cases, some inherent features of tumors make them resistant to radiation therapy. Several nanoparticles have shown the capacity to upgrade the viability of radiation treatment because they can directly interact with ionizing radiation to increase cellular radiation sensitivity. Several types of nanomaterials have been investigated as radio-sensitizers, to improve the efficacy of radiotherapy and overcome radio-resistance including, metal-based nanoparticles, quantum dots, silica-based nanoparticles, polymeric nanoparticles, etc. Despite all this research and development, certain challenges associated with the exploitation of nanoparticles to enhance and improve radiation therapy for cancer treatment are encountered. Potential applications of nanoparticles as radiosensitizers is hindered by the difficulties associated with ensuring their production at a large scale with improved characterizations and because of certain biological challenges. By overcoming the shortcomings of nanoparticles like working on the pharmacokinetics, and physical and chemical characterization, the therapy can be improved. It is expected that in the future more knowledge will be available regarding nanoparticles and their clinical efficacy, leading to the successful development of nanotechnology-based radiation therapies for a variety of cancers. This review highlights the limitations of conventional radiotherapy in cancer treatment and explores the potential of nanotechnology, specifically the use of nanomaterials, to overcome these challenges. It discusses the concept of using nanomaterials to enhance the effectiveness of radiation therapy and provides an overview of different types of nanomaterials and their beneficial properties. The review emphasizes the need to address the obstacles and limitations associated with the application of nanotechnology in cancer radiation therapy for successful clinical translation.

For the past 25 years, medical imaging has been extensively used for clinical diagnosis. The main difficulties in medicine are accurate disease recognition and improved therapy. Using a single imaging modality to diagnose disease is challenging for clinical personnel. In this paper, a novel structural and spectral feature enhancement method in NSST Domain for multimodal medical image fusion (MMIF) is proposed. Initially, the proposed method uses the Intensity, Hue, Saturation (IHS) method to generate two pairs of images. The input images are then decomposed using the Non-Subsampled Shearlet Transform (NSST) method to obtain low frequency and high frequency sub-bands. Next, a proposed Structural Information (SI) fusion strategy is employed to Low Frequency Sub-bands (LFS's). It will enhance the structural (texture, background) information. Then, Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is employed as a fusion rule to High Frequency Sub-bands (HFS's) to obtain the pixel level information. Finally, the fused final image is obtained by employing inverse NSST and IHS. The proposed algorithm was validated using different modalities containing 120 image pairs. The qualitative and quantitative results demonstrated that the algorithm proposed in this research work outperformed numerous state-of-the-art MMIF approaches.

Free radicals alter DNA, resulting in various chronic disorders, including cancer. Herbal therapy has a significant potential to block cancer progression and other chronic diseases. The Tamarix aphylla plays an essential role in the modulation of free radicals. Calotropis procera (leaves), a tropical medicinal plant, has shown protective effects against cancer progression. We have examined the antioxidant therapy of separate or combined forms of the Tamarix aphylla and Calotropis procera plant extracts. Tamarix aphylla demonstrated scavenging activity at various concentrations, including 100 microgram/ml, 500 microgram/ml, and 1000 microgram/ml (29%, 37% and 62%). The scavenging activity of Calotropis procera at various concentrations (100 microgram/ml, 500 microgram/ml, and 1000 microgram/ml) was 20%, 31% and 40% against the standard of ascorbic acid (65%, 77% and 84%). The mixture of both plant extracts displayed significant antioxidant potential at various concentrations 100 microgram/ml, 500 microgram/ml, and 1000 microgram/ml which were 45%, 64% and 78%. Our study showed that the mixture of both plants has a significant antioxidant potential by comparing individual plant extracts. Further studies are recommended to elucidate the anti-cancer potential of both plant extracts mixture using in vivo approach for tumor models.

BackgroundInformal caregivers of people living with dementia experience a higher level of physical and mental stress compared with other types of caregivers. Psychoeducation programs are viewed as beneficial for building caregivers’ knowledge and skills and for decreasing caregiver stress. ObjectiveThis review aimed to synthesize the experiences and perceptions of informal caregivers of people with dementia when participating in web-based psychoeducation programs and the factors that enable and impede informal caregivers’ engagement in web-based psychoeducation programs. MethodsThis review followed the Joanna Briggs Institute protocol of systematic review and meta-aggregation of qualitative studies. We searched 4 English databases, 4 Chinese databases, and 1 Arabic database in July 2021. ResultsA total of 9 studies written in English were included in this review. From these studies, 87 findings were extracted and grouped into 20 categories. These categories were further synthesized into 5 findings: web-based learning as an empowering experience, peer support, satisfactory and unsatisfactory program content, satisfactory and unsatisfactory technical design, and challenges encountered in web-based learning. ConclusionsHigh-quality and carefully designed web-based psychoeducation programs offered positive experiences for informal caregivers of people living with dementia. To meet broader caregiver education and support needs, program developers should consider information quality and relevancy, the support offered, individual needs, flexibility in delivery, and connectedness between peers and program facilitators.

OBJECTIVES: To determine the frequency of lumber puncture-proven acute bacterial meningitis among children with fever and seizures of first onset. METHODOLOGY From March 2020 to March 2021, a hospital-based descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted at the paediatrics department of Hayatabad Medical Complex Peshawar. The sample size for a total of 342 people was estimated using WHO software. The study included all children who had first-onset febrile seizures through OPD and the emergency department. All children underwent lumber punctures using a stringent aseptic procedure, and the hospital laboratory received the samples to look for bacterial meningitis. On a pre-made Proforma, details including name, age, and gender were entered. The gathered data were input into the computer for additional SPSS analysis (version 23). RESULTS Most individuals were male and were lies in the 21-40 months of age group. Mean weight and length/height were evaluated, respectively. The majority had a history of 6-10 days of disease duration. Bacterial meningitis was found significantly (p0.05) associated with the duration of diseases. Manipulation of flowering time to develop cultivars with desired maturity dates is fundamental in plant breeding. It is desirable to generate polyploid rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) germplasm with varying flowering time controlled by a few genes. In the present study, BnaSVP, a rapeseed homolog of the Arabidopsis SVP (Short Vegetative Phase) gene, was characterized and a set of mutants was developed using a CRISPR/Cas9-based gene-editing tool. A single construct targeting multiple sites was successfully applied to precisely mutate four copies of BnaSVP. The induced mutations in these copies were stably transmitted to subsequent generations. Homozygous mutants with loss-of-function alleles and free transgenic elements were generated across the four BnaSVP homologs. All mutant T1 lines tested in two environments (summer and winter growing seasons) showed early-flowering phenotypes. The decrease in flowering time was correlated with the number of mutated BnaSVP alleles. The quadruple mutants showed the shortest flowering time, with a mean decrease of 40.6%–50.7% in length relative to the wild type under the two growth conditions. Our study demonstrates the quantitative involvement of BnaSVP copies in the regulation of flowering time and provides valuable resources for rapeseed breeding.

Abstract Airway surgery presents a unique environment for operating room fire to occur. This study aims to explore the factors of combustion when using KTP laser with high flow oxygen in an ex-vivo model. The variables tested were varying tissue type, tissue condition, oxygen concentration, laser setting, and smoke evacuation in a stainless-steel model. Outcome measures were time of lasing to the first spark and/or flame. A multivariate Cox proportional hazard model was used to determine the risk of spark and flame across the different risk factors. For every 10% increase in oxygen concentration above 60% the risk of flame increased by a factor of 2.3. Continuous laser setting at 2.6 W increased the risk by a factor of 72.8. The risk of lasing adipose tissue is 7.3 times higher than that of muscle. Charred tissue increases the risk of flame by a factor of 92.8. Flame occurred without a preceding spark 93.6% of the time. Using KTP laser in the pulsed mode with low wattages, minimising lasing time, reducing the oxygen concentration and avoiding lasing adipose or charred tissue produce a relatively low estimated risk of spark or flame.

Autoimmune diabetes, well-known as type 1 insulin-dependent diabetic mellitus (T1D). T1D is a prolonged condition marked by an inadequate supply of insulin. The lack is brought on by pancreatic cell death and results in hyperglycemia. The immune system, genetic predisposition, and environmental variables are just a few of the many elements that contribute significantly to the pathogenicity of T1D disease. In this study, we test flavonoids against Coxsackie virus protein to cope the type 1 diabetes. After protein target identification we perform molecular docking of flavonoids and selected target (1z8r). then performed the ADMET analysis and select the top compound the base of the docking score and the ADMET test analysis. Following that molecular dynamics simulation was performed up to 300 ns. Root means square deviation, root mean square fluctuation, secondary structure elements, and protein-ligand contacts were calculated as post-analysis of simulation. We further check the binding of the ligand with protein by performing MM-GBSA every 10 ns. Lead compound CID_5280445 was chosen as a possible medication based on analysis. The substance is non-toxic, meets the ADMET and BBB likeness requirements, and has the best interaction energy. This work will assist researchers in developing medicine and testing it as a treatment for Diabetes Mellitus Type 1 brought on by Coxsackie B4 viruses by giving them an understanding of chemicals against these viruses.

As a DNA mismatch repair deficit (dMMR) anticancer medication, and a humanized monoclonal antibody (hmAb), Tislelizumab has attracted significant interest in recent years. The programmed cell death protein-1 (PD-1) and its ligands (PD-L1/CD274/B7-H1 and PDL2/CD273) may bind to each other with great affinity. This binding prevents activated T-cells from continuing to proliferate, produce cytokines, and engage in cytotoxic action. The B7:PD-1 inhibitory immunological checkpoint receptor binds to the B7-2(CD86) B-lymphocyte activation antigen. This paper presents Tislelizumab's molecular docking and dynamics simulations with the receptor B7-2(CD86) and its downstream signaling proteins CTLA-4 and IL-6. When docked to B cell stimulatory factor-2 soluble IL-6 receptor alpha (sIL6Ra/CD126), Tislelizumab had a strong binding affinity of 329 kcal/mol and provided an excellent quality model with an LGscore of 4.54. The type I membrane protein B7-2(CD86), a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily, responded to docking with an affinity of −332.35 kcal/mol and LGscore of 2.54. Docking to the immune checkpoint protein receptor cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated protein-4 (CTLA-4/CD152) had a binding affinity of −305.91 kcal/mol, facilitating immunological control and cellular dissociation. Tislelizumab and these target proteins exhibited persistent and advantageous interactions in molecular dynamics studies. The STRING functional protein-protein network analysis supported our in silico docking and dynamic simulation results. This analysis also included comparisons of the binding modes of mAbs to protein receptors involved in the cancer hallmark mechanism(s), demonstrating that IL-6, B7-2, and CTLA-4 act and are inhibited in group-mode. Functional enrichment analysis and molecular modelling supported the relationship between the hallmarks of the tumor microenvironment that link inflammation to immunity. Tislelizumab may therefore be able to prevent these three proteins from acting. These findings may also shine light on Dostarlimab's mode of action, which in 2022 achieved ground-breaking success in a clinical study for colorectal cancer.

In this article, detailed trials were undertaken to study the variation in genetic parameters in order to formulate more robust predictive models using gene expression programming (GEP) and multigene expression programming (MEP) for computing the swelling pressure of expansive soils (Ps-ES). A total of 200 datasets with ten input parameters (i.e., clay fraction CF, liquid limit wL, plastic limit wP, plasticity index IP, specific gravity Gs, swell percent Sp, sand content, silt content, maximum dry density ρdmax, and optimum water content wopt) and one output variable, i.e., Ps-ES are collected from the literature, which comprises 120 internationally publications. The effect of input parameters in contributing to Ps-ES has been validated using Pearson correlation (r), sensitivity analysis (SA), as well as a parametric study. The results reveal that the GP-based techniques correctly characterize the swelling characteristics of the ES, thus leading to reasonable prediction performance; however, the MEP model yielded relatively better performance. Also, the proposed predictive models were compared with widely used AI models (ANN, ANFIS, RF, GB-T, DT, and SVM). The ANN performed relatively better; however, it is recommended to use the GEP and MEP due to the blackbox nature of the ANN. Other models exhibited inferior performance. The SA revealed different importance by the GEP and MEP models, however, its confirmed that the maximum dry density and optimum moisture content significantly affect the Ps-ES. The variation in Ps-ES with changes in input attributes is further corroborated from literature. Hence, it is recommended that the proposed GEP and MEP models can be deployed for computing the Ps-ES which efficiently lessens the laborious and time-consuming testing.

Introduction: Details of the pediatric population with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) in Australia and New Zealand have been published previously. There is, however, a paucity of studies exploring the trends in incidence, etiology, renal replacement therapy (RRT) modality, and transplant access among the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young adults (ATCYAs) residing in Australia. Methods: An observational study was undertaken and data on Australian patients who commenced RRT at ≤24 years of age between 1963 and 2017 were extracted from the Australian and New Zealand Dialysis and Transplant Registry (ANZDATA). The incidence and prevalence rates were restricted from 1997 to 2017 because of the unavailability of Aboriginal– and Torres Strait Islander status–specific census data before 1997. Results: A total of 3629 children and young adults received RRT during the observation period, including 178 (4.9%) who identified as ATCYAs and 3451 (95.1%) other children and young adults (OCYAs). Compared with OCYAs, incident rates have risen among ATCYAs since 2000, with the biggest rise for young adults 20 to 24 years of age. Fewer ATCYAs received a kidney transplant compared with OCYAs (56.2% vs. 89.3%, P < 0.001). Pre-emptive kidney transplants were less common in ATCYAs compared with OCYAs (3.4% vs. 16.8%, P < 0.001). Living related donor transplants were less common among ATCYAs than OCYAs (10.7% vs. 35.9%, P < 0.001). Conclusions: Our study shows rising incident rates and poorer access to kidney transplantation among ATCYAs in Australia. The reasons for this health care disparity and barriers to transplantation need to be explored further and must be addressed.

Abstract Background Elevated ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiation is potentially deleterious to many organisms specifically crop plants and has become a global challenge. Rice is an exceptionally important staple food which is grown worldwide, and many efforts have been done recently to improve rice varieties against UV-B stress. This current study aims to investigate the effects of exogenous application of β-sitosterol (βSito) on growth improvement and tolerance level of rice plants against prolonged UV-B stress. The physiological and metabolic responses were evaluated in rice plants not supplemented with βSito (Nβ) and those supplemented with βSito (Sβ). Results The Nβ and Sβ plants were grown under non-stress (ns) and under prolonged UV-B stress (uvs) conditions and termed as Nβns, Sβns and Nβuvs, Sβuvs, respectively. The application of βSito contributes positively under non-stress and specifically to UV-B stress in terms of improving numerous physiological parameters associated with growth and development such as shoot and root length, RWC, whole plant biomass, chlorophyll pigments, and photosynthetic-related parameters (Pn, Gs, Tr, WUEi, Fv/Fm, and NPQ) in Sβ compared with Nβ plants. Moreover, enhanced oxidative stress tolerance of Sβuvs vs. Nβuvs plants under stress was attributed to low levels of ROS and substantial trigger in activities of antioxidant enzymes (SOD, POD, CAT, and APX). Metabolic analysis was performed using GC-TOFMS, which revealed higher accumulation of several key metabolites including organic acids, sugars, amino acids, and others in Sβuvs vs. Nβuvs plants, which were mainly reduced in Nβ plants under stress vs. non-stress conditions. Conclusion These results provide useful data regarding the important role of βSito on growth maintenance and modulation of several metabolites associated with osmotic and redox adjustments during UV-B stress tolerance in rice plants. Importantly, βSito-regulated plasticity could further be explored specifically in relation to different environmental stresses in other economically useful crop plants.

Abstract Wheat is a major food crop worldwide. The plant architecture is a complex trait mostly influenced by plant height, tiller number, and leaf morphology. Plant height plays a crucial role in lodging and thus affects yield and grain quality. In this study, a wheat population was genotyped by using Illumina iSelect 90K single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) assay and finally 22,905 high-quality SNPs were used to perform a genome-wide association study (GWAS) for plant architectural traits employing four multi-locus GWAS (ML-GWAS) and three single-locus GWAS (SL-GWAS) models. As a result, 174 and 97 significant SNPs controlling plant architectural traits were detected by ML-GWAS and SL-GWAS methods, respectively. Among these SNP makers, 43 SNPs were consistently detected, including seven across multiple environments and 36 across multiple methods. Interestingly, five SNPs (Kukri_c34553_89, RAC875_c8121_1490, wsnp_Ex_rep_c66315_64480362, Ku_c5191_340, and tplb0049a09_1302) consistently detected across multiple environments and methods, played a role in modulating both plant height and flag leaf length. Furthermore, candidate SNPs (BS00068592_51, Kukri_c4750_452 and BS00022127_51) constantly repeated in different years and methods associated with flag leaf width and number of tillers. We also detected several SNPs (Jagger_c6772_80, RAC875_c8121_1490, BS00089954_51, Excalibur_01167_1207, and Ku_c5191_340) having common associations with more than one trait across multiple environments. By further appraising these GWAS methods, the pLARmEB and FarmCPU models outperformed in SNP detection compared to the other ML-GWAS and SL-GWAS methods, respectively. Totally, 152 candidate genes were found to be likely involved in plant growth and development. These finding will be helpful for better understanding of the genetic mechanism of architectural traits in wheat.

Salt stress hinders plant growth and disrupts many physio-biochemical and molecular processes. The present study evaluated the potential role of foliar applied 24-epibrassinolide (EBR) for mitigating the adverse effects of salinity in rice plants. Our findings showed that salt stress reduced several growth and physiological parameters, and substantially increased oxidative stress in rice seedlings. The foliar application of EBR replenished the negative effects of salt stress by improving plant growth and physiological attributes in rice plants. Moreover, application of EBR substantially reduced oxidative injuries by enhancing antioxidant enzymes and phenolic compounds in rice plants during salt stress. Interestingly, the endogenous ABA levels were declined in stressed plants by EBR treatment, also validated by expression analysis of ABA-related genes. In addition, application of EBR upregulated carotenoids and flavonoids pathway genes, thus showing its function to activate secondary metabolism in rice plants during salt stress. The principal component analysis (PCA) indicated that, under salt stress, the response of EBR-treated rice plants was strongly correlated with the accumulation of phenolic compounds and flavonoids. Collectively, this study presents useful insight into the distinct role of EBR by activating underlying enzymatic and non-enzymatic defense mechanisms to mitigate salinity in rice plants.

A vast amount of nylon waste is being generated as paintbrushes, and how to reuse post-consumer nylon waste is a new crisis. The eco-friendly development of fiber reinforced concrete (FRC) is a major challenge in the construction industry considering the high cost of engineered fibers. Thus, owing to high tensile strength, recycled nylon fiber (RNF) derived from nylon waste can be used in FRC as an eco-friendly and cheaper alternative to engineered fibers. This study assessed the influence of RNF on the properties of medium-strength concrete. Therefore, concrete mixes were prepared and studied with various volume fractions of RNF i.e., 0.05%, 0.1%, 0.15%, 0.25%, 0.5%, 0.75%, 0.85% and 1%. Physical (density, and ultrasonic pulse velocity-UPV), mechanical (compressive strength-CS, splitting-tensile strength-SPS, and flexural-tensile strength-FS), and permeability (water absorption-WA and chloride penetration depth-CPD) properties of all mixes were examined and compared. The experimental findings proved that higher volume fractions of RNF showed a ‘reducing effect’ on CS. For best SPS and FS, results recommended doses of RNF are 0.25%, and 0.75%, respectively. At optimum RNF doses, net improvements of 24.2% and 14.1% were noticed in FS and SPS, correspondingly w.r.t control mixture. RNF enhanced the crack-resistance of plain concrete by delaying the failure under tensile and flexural load. The incorporation of a 0.05–0.5% volume fraction of RNF was beneficial to minimize the WA and CPD. Minimum permeability is achieved at the incorporation of 0.1–0.15% of RNF, for instance, at 0.15% RNF, WA and CPD of concrete were reduced by 11.5% and 29.2%, respectively w.r.t control mix.

BackgroundThe advancement of cancer research has been facilitated through freely available cancer literature, databases, and tools. The age of genomics and big data has given rise to the need for cooperation and data sharing in order to make efficient use of this new information in the COVID-19 pandemic. Although there are many databases for cancer research, their access is not easy owing to different ways of processing and managing the data. There is an absence of a unified platform to manage all of them in a transparent and more comprehensible way. ObjectiveIn this study, an improved integrated cancer research database and platform is provided to facilitate a deeper statistical insight into the correlation between cancer and the COVID-19 pandemic, unifying the collection of almost all previous published cancer databases and defining a model web database for cancer research, and scoring databases on the basis of the variety types of cancer, sample size, completeness of omics results, and user interface. MethodsDatabases examined and integrated include the Data Portal database, Genomic database, Proteomic database, Expression database, Gene database, and Mutation database; and it is expected that this launch will sort, save, advance the understanding and encourage the use of these resources in the cancer research environment. ResultsTo make it easy to search valuable information, 85 cancer databases are provided in the form of a table, and a database of databases named the Cancer Research Database (CRDB) has been built and presented herein. Furthermore, the CRDB has been herein equipped with unique navigation tools in order to be explored by three methods; that is, any single database can be browsed by typing the name in the given search bar, while all categories can be browsed by clicking on the name of the category or image expression icon, thus serving as a facility that could provide all the category databases on a single click. ConclusionsThe computational platform (PHP, HTML, CSS, and MySQL) used to build CRDB for the cancer scientific community can be freely investigated and browsed on the internet and is planned to be updated in a timely manner. In addition, based on the proposed platform, the status and diagnoses statistics of cancer during the COVID-19 pandemic have been thoroughly investigated herein using CRDB, thus providing an easy-to-manage, understandable framework that mines knowledge for future researchers.

The growth and productivity of wheat crops depend on the availability of essential nutrients such as zinc (Zn) and potassium (K2O), which play critical roles in the plant’s physiological and biochemical processes. This study aimed to investigate the synergizing effect of zinc and potassium fertilizers on uptake of both the nutrients, growth, yield, and quality of the Hashim-08 cultivar and local landrace, during the 2019–2020 growing season in Dera Ismail Khan, Pakistan. The experiment was designed using a split plot pattern in a randomized complete pattern, with main plots for the wheat cultivars and subplots for the fertilizer treatments. Results indicated that both cultivars responded positively to the fertilizer treatments, with the local landrace exhibiting maximum plant height and biological yield, and improved Hashim-08, showing increased agronomic parameters, including the number of tillers and grains and spike length. Application of Zn and K2O fertilizers significantly enhanced agronomic parameters, such as the number of grains per plant, spike length, thousand-grain weight, grain yield, harvest index, Zn uptake of grain, dry gluten content, and grain moisture content, while crude protein and grain potassium remained relatively unchanged. The soil’s Zn and K content dynamics were found to vary among treatments. In conclusion, the combined application of Zn and K2O fertilizers proved beneficial in improving the growth, yield, and quality of wheat crops, with the local landrace exhibiting lower grain yield but greater Zn uptake through fertilizer application. The study’s findings highlight that the local landrace showed good response to the growth and qualitative parameter when compared with the Hashim-08 cultivar. Additionally, the combined application of Zn and K showed a positive relation in terms of nutrient uptake and soil Zn and K content.

Historical documents such as newspapers, invoices, contract papers are often difficult to read due to degraded text quality. These documents may be damaged or degraded due to a variety of factors such as aging, distortion, stamps, watermarks, ink stains, and so on. Text image enhancement is essential for several document recognition and analysis tasks. In this era of technology, it is important to enhance these degraded text documents for proper use. To address these issues, a new bi-cubic interpolation of Lifting Wavelet Transform (LWT) and Stationary Wavelet Transform (SWT) is proposed to enhance image resolution. Then a generative adversarial network (GAN) is used to extract the spectral and spatial features in historical text images. The proposed method consists of two parts. In the first part, the transformation method is used to de-noise and de-blur the images, and to increase the resolution effects, whereas in the second part, the GAN architecture is used to fuse the original and the resulting image obtained from part one in order to improve the spectral and spatial features of a historical text image. Experiment results show that the proposed model outperforms the current deep learning methods.

All-inorganic perovskite quantum dots (QDs) (CsPbX3, X = Cl, Br, I) become promising candidate materials for the new generation of light-emitting diodes for their narrow emission spectrum, high photoluminescence quantum yield, and adjustable emission wavelength. However, the perovskite QDs materials still face instability against moisture, high-temperature, and UV-light. Many strategies have been reported to improve the photoluminescence (PL) performance of QDs while increasing their stability. These strategies can be divided into three main categories: doping engineering, surface ligand modification, coating strategies. This paper reviews the recent research progress of surface ligands, inorganic and polymer coating, and metal ions doping of CsPbX3 QDs. Partial substitution of Pb2+ with non-toxic or low-toxic metal ions can improve the formation energy of the perovskite lattice and reduce its toxicity. The surface polymer modification can use their ligands to bond with the uncoordinated lead and halogen ions on perovskite QDs surface to reduce surface defects, thereby improving the PL intensity and stability. In addition, the organic or inorganic coating materials on perovskite QDs can effectively avoid their contact with the external environment, thereby improving the stability of the perovskite. The optical properties of the modified QDs, including transient absorption spectra, temperature-dependent PL spectra, time-resolved photoluminescence (TRPL) spectra properties, etc. were discussed to explain the physical mechanism. The potential applications of all-inorganic perovskite QDs as down-conversion fluorescent materials in light-emitting diodes are presented. Finally, we provide some possible methods to further improve the PL performance of the all-inorganic perovskite QDs.

IntroductionObesity in pregnancy is a known risk factor for adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes. Few studies have compared adverse pregnancy-related outcomes according to obesity severity. Hence, we aimed to examine the impact of obesity class on maternal and perinatal outcomes.MethodsWe retrospectively analysed data from all singleton births from mothers with obesity from 2013-2017 in Northern Sydney Local Health District in Sydney, Australia. Women were categorised into obesity class I (BMI 30-34.9kg/m2), class II (BMI 35-39.9 kg/m2) or class III (BMI 40+ kg/m2). Across BMI classes, we compared maternal outcomes including mode of delivery, gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), and preeclampsia, and neonatal outcomes including large- and small-for-gestational age (SGA, LGA), neonatal hypoglycaemia, birth defects and timing of birth. Logistic analyses were performed to explore the impact of maternal obesity class on these outcomes, adjusting for maternal age, country of birth, parity, diabetes (both pre-existing and gestational) and hypertension.ResultsThere were 2466 births to women with obesity, class (69.1%), class II (21.8%), and class III (9.2%). 42.5% delivered by Caesarean section, 22.3% developed GDM and 11.2% had a hypertensive disorder in pregnancy, and Caesarean section and GDM were more common in women with higher class obesity. LGA occurred in 27.3% and SGA occurred in 4.0% of women across all classes of obesity. LGA rates were 49% more likely in women with class III compared to women with class I obesity (OR=1.49, CI 1.06-2.09, p=0.02). The presence of diabetes in the index pregnancy did not significantly impact risk of neonatal LGA between maternal obesity classes. Other neonatal adverse outcomes such as stillbirth and birth defects were more common in women with higher class obesity. SGA, neonatal hypoglycaemia, gestational age at delivery, APGAR 5-minute score and NICU admissions were similar across obesity classes, after adjustment for covariates.ConclusionsObesity class increases the risk of many adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes. Obesity class is independently associated with LGA incidence in the neonate, independent of maternal factors including GDM. Ongoing efforts must be made to reduce obesity incidence in women of reproductive age to circumvent the adverse perinatal outcomes associated with obesity.

Background: The achievement of the human genome project provides a basis for the systematic study of the human genome from evolutionary history to disease-specific medicine. With the explosive growth of biological data, a growing number of biological databases are being established to support human-related research. Objective: The main objective of our study is to store, organize and share data in a structured and searchable manner. In short, we have planned the future development of new features in the database research area. Materials & methods: In total, we collected and integrated 680 human databases from scientific published work. Multiple options are presented for accessing the data, while original links and short descriptions are also presented for each database. Results & discussion: We have provided the latest collection of human research databases on a single platform with six categories: DNA database, RNA database, protein database, expression database, pathway database and disease database. Conclusion: Taken together, our database will be useful for further human research study and will be modified over time. The database has been implemented in PHP, HTML, CSS and MySQL and is available freely at https://habdsk.org/database.php.

Recently food shortage has become the major flagging scenario around the globe. To resolve this challenge, there is dire need to significantly increase crop productivity per unit area. In the present study, 24 genotypes of rice were grown in pots to assess their tillering number, number of primary and secondary branches per panicle, number of grains per panicle, number of grains per plant, and grain yield, respectively. In addition, the potential function of miR156 was analyzed, regulating seed sequence in rice. Furthermore, OsSPL14 gene for miR156 was sequenced to identify additional mutations within studied region. The results demonstrated Bas-370 and L-77 showed highest and lowest tillers, respectively. Bas-370, Rachna basmati, Bas-2000, and Kashmir Basmati showed high panicle branches whereas, L-77, L-46, Dilrosh, L-48, and L-20 displayed lowest panicle branches. Bas-370 and four other studied accessions contained C allele whereas, L-77 and 18 other investigated accessions had heterozygous (C and T) alleles in their promoter region. C-T allelic mutation was found in 3rd exon of the OsSPL14 gene. The sequence analysis of 12 accessions revealed a novel mutation (C-T) present ~2bp upstream and substitution of C-A allele. However, no significant correlation for novel mutation was found for tillering and panicle branches in studied rice accessions. Taken together present results suggested novel insight into the binding of miR156 to detected mutation found in 3rd exon of the OsSPL14 gene. Nevertheless, L-77, L-46, Dilrosh, L-48, and L-20 could be used as potential breeding resource for improving panicle architecture contributing yield improvement of rice crop.

Wild medicinal herbs have been used as folk and traditional medicines all across the world since well before recorded history. This present study was designed to test the antimicrobial activities of five different solvent extracted samples (n-hexane, n-butanol, ethyl acetate, methanol, and water) of Peganum harmala using stems and seeds. Two different strains of Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumonia), two Gram-positive bacteria (Bacillus subtilus and Staphylococcus aureus), and one fungal strain (Candida albicans) were used. The antimicrobial activities were measured using a disc diffusion assay. Two concentrations of the extracts (1 and 2mgDisc-1) were used. Ethyl acetate fraction was found more affective among the tested solvents and showed maximum activity (zone of inhibition) against S. aureus (65.53 and 81.10%), E. coli (46.22 and 61.29%) while n-butanol and water fractions gave maximum activity against S. aureus (78.86 and 70.00%) and K. pneumonia (57.00 and 61.39%) respectively. Water fraction showed maximum activity against C. albicans (60.00 and 81.88%). In the case of the stem, Ethyl acetate again showed more activity against B. subtilus (38.57 and 42.10%) and S. aureus (36.66 and 46.66%) while n-butanol showed maximum activity against K. pneumonia (24.55 and 32.44%) and E. coli (27.93 and 37.61%). Methanol was found more effective against C. albicans (25.71 and 43.80%). Seed extracted samples were found more effective compared to the stem. Ethyl acetate, butanol, and aqueous extracted samples showed good activity against the tested microbes, so these fractions are recommended for study their mechanism of actions and isolation of bioactive metabolites responsible for antimicrobial activities. The P. harmala should be evaluated for their bioactive compounds to be used in future studies. Our objective is to provide the framework for future study on the roles of P. harmala as traditional medicines.

Satellite communication systems require dual-band circularly polarized (CP) waves to integrate receiving and transmit antennas into one dual-band terminal. Polarization converters play an important role in such a scenario to convert the incoming linearly polarized (LP) signal into the transmitted CP signal. Wide-band and wide-angle performance for the transmission based dual-band polarization converters has been a challenge. In this paper, a transmission-based linear polarization to circular polarization (LP-to-CP) converter is presented using a very simple and thin metasurface based structure. The proposed metasheet is uni-layered, patterned with a circular diagonal split ring enclosed in the square ring. The idea for dual-band polarization conversion is verified with an example in which x(y) polarization is converted into LHCP(RHCP) in Ku-band (15.25~18.9 GHz), and RHCP(LHCP) in Ka-band (29.7~36.7GHz). The converter performs polarization conversion for both bands over 21% of bandwidth which is very wide. Moreover, it maintains performance over wide-angled oblique incidences. Dual-band performance is analyzed theoretically, numerically, and experimentally. The equivalent circuit model is also presented for the unit cell. This metasheet has simple and low-cost design, wide polarization conversion bandwidths, polarization diversity, and wide-angle performance which are very promising for future communication systems.

In this paper, a new slant-polarized slot antenna configuration is presented for direction finding and base station applications. The proposed antenna comprises enhanced size coaxial cables, slots, and feeding assemblies. The slant polarization is achieved by four angled slots etched around the outer cylinder of the oversized coaxial cable. An internal compact axis-symmetric feeding network connects primary apertures to form the omnidirectional antenna. Abstract Background Childhood obesity is a serious public health concern worldwide. Community-based obesity prevention interventions offer promise due to their focus on the broader social, cultural and environmental contexts rather than individual behaviour change and their potential for sustainability and scalability. This paper aims to determine the effectiveness of a South Australian community-based, multi-setting, multi-strategy intervention, OPAL (Obesity Prevention and Lifestyle), in increasing healthy weight prevalence in 9 to 11-year-olds. Methods A quasi-experimental repeated cross-sectional design was employed. This paper reports on the anthropometric, health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and behaviour outcomes of primary school children (9–11 years) after 2–3 years of intervention delivery. Consenting children from primary schools (20 intervention communities, INT; 20 matched comparison communities, COMP) completed self-report questionnaires on diet, activity and screen time behaviours. HRQoL was measured using the Child Health Utility 9D. Body Mass Index (BMI) z-score and weight status were determined from children’s measured height and weight. A multilevel mixed-effects model, accounting for clustering in schools, was implemented to determine intervention effect. Sequential Bonferroni adjustment was used to allow for multiple comparisons of the secondary outcomes. Results At baseline and final, respectively, 2611 and 1873 children completed questionnaires and 2353 and 1760 had anthropometric measures taken. The prevalence of children with healthy weight did not significantly change over time in INT (OR 1.11, 95%CI 0.92–1.35, p = 0.27) or COMP (OR 0.85, 95%CI 0.68–1.06, p = 0.14). Although changes in the likelihood of obesity, BMI z-score and HRQoL favoured the INT group, the differences were not significant after Bonferroni adjustment. There were also no significant differences between groups at final for behavioural outcomes. Conclusions OPAL did not have a significant impact on the proportion of 9 to 11-year-olds in the healthy weight range, nor children’s BMI z-score, HRQoL and behaviours. Long-term, flexible community-based program evaluation approaches are required . Trial registration ACTRN12616000477426 (12th April 2016, retrospectively registered).

Abstract Background Weight change post-kidney transplantation and its associations in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians, a group known to have poor patient and graft outcomes, are unknown. Weight change based on body mass index in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australian recipients was compared to non- indigenous recipients. Methods We performed a cohort analysis of data from the Australia and New Zealand Dialysis and Transplant Registry for first deceased donor kidney transplant recipients between 1995 and 2014 in Australia. Weight change post-kidney transplantation was analysed by recipient ethnicity using multivariate mixed effect linear regression analysis. (1) Background: Gastric cancer (GC) is the fourth leading cause of cancer death worldwide. Silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) have been increasingly used in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer due to their physicochemical properties. This study investigated the role of a kind of biosynthetic silver nanoparticle (b-Ag) in the development of GC, the enhancement of 5-fluorouracil (5F), and its mechanism. (2) Methods: X-ray, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and UV absorbance were used to detect the characterizations of AgNPs. CCK8, Colony formation and a Transwell assay were performed to confirm the malignant behaviors of GC. DCFH-DA and DHE were used to detect intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS). Quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was used to detect the mRNA expression of apoptosis-related genes. (3) Results: Compared with the chemosynthetic silver nanoparticles (c-Ag), b-Ag had a stronger cytokilling effect, and it had a better inhibition on the malignant phenotype of GC when combined with 5F. The b-Ag increased the expression of Bax and P53 while decreasing the expression of Bcl2. It also promoted the generation of intracellular ROS. (4) Conclusions: By promoting cell apoptosis and increasing intracellular ROS, b-Ag inhibited the development of GC and enhanced the inhibition of 5F on GC.

Abstract Background Chemotherapy can cause premature menopause which may result in adverse effects such as fertility loss, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease and menopausal symptoms. It is thus very important that women are provided with accurate information regarding their risk of premature menopause as a consequence of proposed chemotherapy. Unfortunately, at present there are no reliable tools which can be applied in clinical practice to estimate the risk of premature menopause in women undergoing chemotherapy, beyond age of the patient and form of chemotherapy utilized. Aim This was a pilot study to determine whether AMH levels pre and during chemotherapy are able to predict for chemotherapy induced menopause, and to assess quality of life and menopausal symptoms. Methods and results Premenopausal women between 18 to 45 who were planned to undergo gonadotoxic chemotherapy with curative intent for either breast cancer or haematologic malignancy were recruited from a single centre. AMH, FSH, LH and oestradiol levels were recorded prior to commencement of therapy, during and following completion of chemotherapy. Menstrual status, menopausal symptoms and quality of life data were collected at baseline and during follow‐up. Twenty two women were recruited. The baseline AMH was higher in women who regained menses post‐chemotherapy (median 23.1 vs 9.9 pM (P = .06). Menopausal symptoms were significantly higher at 1 year post diagnosis than at baseline however quality of life was similar. Conclusion AMH may be useful for predicting chemotherapy induced menopause. Further research is still required to determine the place of such testing for patient counselling and management.

Hypersensitive-induced response protein (HIR) is a class of plant immune proteins that play pivotal roles in Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (Lib.) de Bary resistance. However, there has been no systematic investigation and identification of HIR genes in rapeseed (Brassica napus L.). Hence, we identified 50 BnHIR genes and classified them into four groups. Subcellular localization prediction suggested that HIR proteins are mainly localized in the mitochondria. Cis-acting elements involved in light and diverse abiotic stress were found in the promoter regions of BnHIR. The majority of BnHIR genes in Groups 1/3/4 were expressed in most examined tissues, especially in leaves and siliques pericarp, while the BnHIR genes in Group 2 were not or had low expression in all detected tissues. In the case of S. sclerotiorum inoculation, HIR genes in Groups 1/3/4 were strongly induced, especially homologous genes in Group 1, which exhibited different expression patterns. Moreover, overexpression of BnHIR2.7 in Arabidopsis thaliana illustrated its prominent resistance to S. sclerotiorum. Our study provides insight into the evolutionary relationships of the HIR family genes in B. napus and lays the foundation for their resistance to S. sclerotiorum in B. napus.
