A technique for wireless power transfer (WPT) efficiency improvement by a proper design of the excitation waveform is presented. This improvement is obtained on the one hand by a combined‐harmonics excitation, and on the other hand by exploiting multiple‐resonance coupled resonators. In contrast to wireless communications, there is no constraint on the linearity of the transmitter and receiver in a WPT system. Therefore, the impact of the excitation waveform on the power transfer efficiency with the help of an analytical model is investigated. An optimum excitation waveform is determined to maximise the power transfer efficiency. Thereafter, the authors concentrate on designing a multiple‐resonance coupled resonator system that is consistent with the determined excitation waveform. This work introduces a non‐uniform spiral resonator for controlling the self‐resonant frequencies, which is consistent with the required excitation waveform. The performance of the designed coupled resonators is then evaluated using a 3D finite‐element method and experiments. A novel dual-frequency dual-linear-polarization printed antenna element benefiting from a single-feed single-layer structure is introduced in this paper. The Boolean particle swarm optimization algorithm in conjunction with the method of moments (MoM) is employed to optimize the geometry of the antenna after considering three objectives: cross polarization, return loss, and boresight direction in both bands. A fuzzy-logic based ordered weighted averaging operator allows us to efficiently implement the multi-objective optimization technique. Prototypes of the optimized designs have been fabricated and tested. The measured results show excellent performance with more than 15 dB of return loss and 10 dB of cross polarization in both frequency bands of operation, i.e., 12 and 14 GHz. A gain of 4.8 dBi has been measured for both frequency bands. A low-cost quasiplanar Ku-band array of circularly polarized microstrip antennas benefiting from a low-loss waveguide feed network is demonstrated (patent pending). The 32 elements of the array which are arranged in a 2-by-16 configuration are subdivided into four two-by-four subarrays. To maintain feed losses and thus the overall noise temperature at a minimum, the subarrays are excited using a one-by-four corporate feed network of hollow metallic waveguides. This network is composed of E-plane components such as Tee-junctions and bends and is manufactured out of only two metallic pieces that accommodate the feed network in the form of milled grooves. Because of insensitivity of the exploited E-plane components to air gaps or slight misalignments, the pieces are secured together with only four screws without welding, braising, or conducting adhesives. Owing to a low-loss foam substrate, the array elements show high circular polarization gain of 9 dBic and wide relative bandwidth of 4%. To achieve circular polarization, use is made of circular patches with two nearly perpendicular perturbations. Using sequential rotation of the elements along with quadrature phase shifting, the axial ratio of the array is reduced to 1 dB over 4% of bandwidth. The measured circular polarization gain of the array amounts to 23 dBic with an aperture efficiency of 63% in the Ku-band of frequencies. The achieved efficiency, which is higher than the reported efficiency for comparable planar arrays with microstrip feed networks, can be credited to the low losses of only 0.2 dB in its waveguide corporate feed. The paper also presents measurement results for an arrangement of two inclined single arrays mounted in parallel. This configuration which has a measured circular polarization gain of 25.7 dBic with an axial ratio of 1 dB is desirable for mobile low-profile antenna systems. It is shown that holography offers a novel solution to the problem of millimeter-wave power splitting and combining. With the help of an approximate model, we demonstrate that a hologram will work as a beam-splitting element, provided that it records the holographic image of the beams to be generated. To verify this observation, a beam splitter consisting of a hologram and an antenna array is analyzed by means of a rigorous network model. This analysis serves to find the optimum structure of the beam splitter. Measurements on a realized prototype of the beam splitter prove the possibility of achieving a high splitting efficiency, a high inter-element isolation, and a relatively large bandwidth. Flexibility in the orientation and the number of outputs is another outstanding feature of this holographic approach. The commonly used coordinate transformation for cylindrical cloaks is generalized. This transformation is utilized to determine an anisotropic inhomogeneous diagonal material tensors of a shell type cloak for various material types, i.e., double-positive (DPS: [variant_greek_epsilon], μ > 0), double-negative (DNG: [variant_greek_epsilon], μ < 0), [variant_greek_epsilon]-negative (ENG), and μ-negative (MNG). To obtain conditions of perfect cloaking for various material types, a rigorous analysis is performed. It is shown that perfect cloaking will be achieved for same type material for the cloak and its surrounding medium. Moreover, material losses are included in the analysis to demonstrate that perfect cloaking for lossy materials can be achieved for identical loss tangent of the cloak and its surrounding material. Sensitivity of the cloaking performance to losses for different material types is also investigated. The obtained analytical results are verified using a Finite-Element computational analysis.
