Objective: We investigated cases with opacification on maxillary sinus computed tomography (CT)/ orthopantomography (OPG) among patients with rhinosinusitis with opacification in both paranasal sinuses (bilateral rhinosinusitis) to confirm the involvement of odontogenic infections. Methods: This study included 75 patients who were diagnosed with bilateral rhinosinusitis based on clinical examination and evident opacification on at least one side on maxillary sinus imaging with computed tomography CT/ orthopantomography (OPG). The definition of odontogenic sinusitis was determined by examining EPT and oral findings, in addition to the CT/ orthopantomography (OPG), by one dental surgeon and one otolaryngologist. Results: From the present study it was found that 45.3% of patients had odontogenic infections, which were associated with multiple infected teeth in some cases. Odontogenic infection was observed in both sinuses in some patients. Sinusitis with polyps was frequently associated with dental infection, and some cases were also associated with mycosis. Almost no oral symptoms were observed. Conclusions: The results suggest that clinicians should consider odontogenic infection in patients with rhinosinusitis with opacification, on at least one side on maxillary sinus imaging. This means that accurate diagnosis may be challenging for otolaryngologist or dentists alone, suggesting that collaboration between the two would be suitable for this task. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: To evaluate & compare esthetic perception by Prosthodontist as well as patient using QDA (Questionnaire on own Dental Appearance) and PEI (Prosthetic Esthetic Index). Materials and Methodology: The study was conducted on 44 participants, who were evaluated by a single Prosthodontist by using PEI Index, and another questionnaire filled by patients, evaluating their own esthetic appearance by using QDA index. Data was recorded and Spearman correlation coefficient analysis was done. Results: On the basis of Spearman correlation coefficient test, it showed that the R value was 0.374. This value shows weak but positive correlation between PEI & QDA. Conclusion: On basis of the results of the study, it can be concluded that the perception of Prosthodontist and perception of patient both are different but there was weak positive correlation between PEI & QDA. Aim: This in vivo study was done to correlate the values of three different electronic apex locators: Root ZX II, iPex II, and Raypex 6, with the radiographic working length (WL). Materials and Methods: Nineteen maxillary incisors with completely formed root apices indicated for endodontic treatment were chosen. After access preparation, coronal flaring and pulp extirpation, electronic measurement of WL was done with a No: 15 Kfile using the three devices on each tooth. A WL radiograph was then taken with the file placed within the canal and the length determined by following Ingle's method. The data were then analyzed using the correlation coefficient and Z-test. Results: Root ZX II showed the maximum correlation (r = 0.9881) with radiographic WL followed by Raypex 6 (R = 0.9731) and iPex II (R = 0.9508). Root ZX II had a statistically significant higher correlation with radiographic WL in comparison with iPex II (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Maximum correlation of readings with the radiographic length was shown by Root ZX II followed by Raypex 6 and then by iPex II. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: The aim of the research was to develop a model that accurately represents an Aramany class I defect and its obturator prostheses fabricated with cobalt-chromium alloy and titanium alloy to compare the deflection and the stress distribution in the rehabilitated area. Materials and Methods: Aramany class I defect and the obturator prostheses were generated geometrically using ANSYS 14.5; both were superimposed on each other to mimic the prostheses and the maxilla as one unit. Meshing of models was carried out using hypermesh software and materialistic properties were assigned. The 120 newton load was constituted on the teeth in different directions. Statistical Analysis Used: Statistical analysis of Finite element was not possible. Self-explanatory decoding results in the software were used. Results: The stress distribution and deflection executed by ANSYS provided results that enabled the tracing of Von Mises stress and deflection field in the form of color-coded bands with values in mega pascal. Conclusions: The study shows that Von Mises stresses are higher for the frame work fabricated with cobalt-chromium alloy compared to titanium alloy. It is fairly common to remove a severely compromised tooth and provide rehabilitation by means of an implant. Resorption of alveolar bone after extraction resulting in loss of bone height and width is an unpleasant sequelae causing difficulty in implant placement. Few procedures have been promoted to attain the required bone height and width, such as guided bone regeneration socket preservation with the use of various graft materials and barrier membranes. The disadvantages of these techniques are some amount of ridge height loss and loss of buccal/facial, ridge contour. The socket shield technique is a new method where a buccal segment of root is retained as a shield, which aids in retaining periodontal ligament on buccofacial aspect. The implant is placed (immediate placement) lingual to this shield. This maintains the alveolar ridge height and buccofacial contour, thus providing superior aesthetics.
