The Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of smart sensory objects. These objects collect environmental data and communicate to exchange this gathered data without human intervention. IoT has evolved as a revolutionary technology for over a decade. It is currently, widely applied in a variety of applications like Internet of Vehicles (IoV), Internet of Healthcare Things (IoHT), and the Internet of Everything (IoE). IoHT is one of the most beneficial and significant IoT applications. The quality of the connection in an IoT network is governed by the application layer communication protocol. Application type has a significant impact on the preference of protocol selection. In this paper, the performance of CoAP and MQTT-SN is compared. Based on the performance analysis it was concluded that in case of high traffic conditions network congestion occurs on the medical broker of MQTT-SN, which lowers the network efficiency. A framework is proposed to achieve reliability and time optimization in larger sensor-based healthcare networks. An adaptive switching-based data communication model has been designed. In the proposed model, we have enabled IoHT network to run two application protocols in parallel. The adaptive switching algorithm allows to switch between the two available protocols based on the status of the network condition. Network simulation has been performed using NODE-RED. This tool is used to test the proposed framework in different scenarios. In the end it was concluded that during network congestion conditions at medical broker of MQTT-SN, the adaptive switching algorithm allows the network to switch to CoAP connection for the time efficient and reliable transmission in the IoHT network.

Abstract The multiphase matrix converter outperforms the conventional three‐phase system with higher fault tolerance capability and higher power control competency. This paper discusses the direct control based on different possible switching combinations of a three‐phase to five‐phase matrix converter (MC). The proposed control topology significantly reduces the switching commutations in a switching cycle when compared with its counterpart. The control is based on the modified space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) strategy. The proposed space vector scheme intelligently selects the voltage vectors to get the desired output characteristics with the least possible switching transitions in a switching cycle. Three possible cases exist in controlling space vectors based on their magnitude, the number of active switching vectors, and their commutations. The results for three different cases of SVPWM have been presented and compared. The total harmonic distortion (THD) obtained in the output is lower in case 2; however, it suffers from a higher common‐mode voltage (CMV). The scheme has been successfully implemented and verified in hardware.

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are widely utilized in a variety of applications. Attackers might interfere with equipment, and eavesdrop on conversations. Attackers can also modify the data which has been communicated or connect unauthorized devices to the network if such devices are deployed in the physical environment. To ensure WSN security, messages exchanged between communicating nodes must be encrypted, and for encryption and decryption, the network must store a key. Consequently, Key management is of significant importance in achieving security in WSN. Obtaining such a key arrangement in a resource-constrained environment is required for secure and energy-efficient data transmission in WSN. Current algorithms have certain security issues, such as vulnerability to plaintext attacks, brute force attacks, side-channel attacks, and computational complexity. Cryptography along with clustering has been found to be a practical and efficient technique to improve the secure and energy-efficient data transmission in WSNs. In this article we have used an asymmetric Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) method for key generation whereas encryption and decryption of data, has been done by a hybrid of Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and ECC cryptography A novel algorithm has been developed that incorporates both techniques (Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and ECC cryptography) along with clustering through standard LEACH protocol for improving energy efficiency, data security, and network lifetime. The proposed algorithm has been able to overcome the issue of key exchange that plagues AES, simpler than ECC and more reliable than AES. More significantly, it is able to encounter a variety of security threats including side-channel attacks. The proposed algorithm is better and has been compared to current techniques with respect to time complexity, encryption time and decryption time to demonstrate its efficacy.

A Fault-Tolerant Multi-Level Inverter (FT-MLI) is essential to ensure power supply continuity for crucial applications. At the same time, the cost and efficiency of MLI is also important for its successful use in the commercial market. The existing seven level FT-MLI topologies demand more than one input DC source, which increases the cost function. This article proposes a single DC source seven level FT-MLI topology with minimum number of switches (IGBT) to reduce the cost function. The proposed FT-MLI topology generates seven level output voltage with 1.5 times voltage boosting. In case of open or short circuit fault on any single or multi switch, the topology continues to operate with five level output voltage using reserved switches. It consists of eight active switches, two diodes, two capacitors, six thermal fuses, and three reserved switches. In comparison to the existing seven level fault tolerant (open circuit and short circuit fault) topologies, the suggested structure requires minimum number of component count. The efficiency and power losses of the proposed structure are analyzed theoretically. The proposed topology has an efficiency of 96 % at an output power of 600 W under healthy condition and 97% at an output power of 272 W under post fault condition. The level shift pulse width modulation approach is used to generate required triggering pulse for the switch during pre-fault and post-fault. The proposed topology is simulated in the MATLAB/Simulink platform and experimentally verified using dSPACE 1104. The response of the output voltage and current during the transition from pre-fault to post-post fault for each switch fault are presented.

Automatic liver cancer detection (ALCD) is very crucial in automatic biomedical image analysis and diagnosis as it is the largest organ in the body and plays a significant role in the metabolic process as well as the elimination of toxins. In the last decade, various machine and deep learning schemes have been investigated for automatic ALCD using computed tomography (CT) images. However, ALCD in CT images is challenging because of the noise, intricate structure of abdominal computed tomography (CT) images, and textural changes throughout the CT images making liver segmentation a vital challenge that may result in both under-segmentation (u-seg) and over-segmentation ( o-seg) of the organ. This paper presents liver segmentation based on the proposed Edge Strengthening Parallel UNet (ESP-UNet) for liver segmentation to avoid the u-seg and o-seg of the liver in CT images. Further, it offered ALCD based on lightweight sequential Deep Convolution Neural Networks (DCNN). The consequences of ESP-UNet DCNN-based ALCD are evaluated based on accuracy, recall, precision, and F1-score. The suggested approach provides a noteworthy improvement in ALCD over the traditional state of arts.

The study of protein-protein interactions (PPIs) and predicting the protein structure plays a critical role in understanding cellular processes and designing therapeutic interventions. In this research, we explore the application of quantum algorithms, specifically Grover’s algorithm, in improving the accuracy and efficiency of PPI prediction. By harnessing the inherent parallelism and quantum search capabilities of Grover’s algorithm, we aim to enhance the identification of interacting protein pairs from large-scale datasets. We demonstrate the effectiveness of using this algorithm through an extensive approach, comparing the performance of Grover’s algorithm with classical machine learning algorithms. Our results reveal that the quantum algorithm offers significant improvements in prediction accuracy, enabling the identification of previously undetected PPIs. Moreover, we discuss the advantages and limitations of using Grover’s algorithm in PPI prediction and provide insights into its potential for accelerating research in protein interaction networks. This research highlights the potential of quantum algorithms in advancing the field of bioinformatics and protein interaction analysis.

Single current sensor-based speed sensorless vector controlled PMSM (“Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor”) drive is presented in this paper. Speed, position, and currents are estimated using single current sensor information of 3- $\Phi $ PMSM drive. 2- $\Phi $ currents in the $dq-axes$ are calculated and closed in the loop using $i_{qs}^{\ast }$ and a phase current information obtained from the single current sensor. The proposed method applies to all types of 3- $\Phi $ PMSM; current estimation is independent of machine parameters and inverter switching states. Drive is made speed and position sensorless by estimating using Y-MRAS (Model Reference Adaptive System). Y-MRAS is developed using reference voltages and estimated currents. The speed estimator depends on stator resistance; any variation in it will affect the drive performance. So, stator resistance needs to be estimated online and compensated in the speed estimation technique. Modified P-MRAS technique is used for stator resistance estimation. Here, the drive performance is also validated under stator resistance variation and its compensation. The proposed drive is independent of switching states, integrator terms, and differentiator terms. The single sensor drive reduces the overall cost of the drive and can be implemented into the existing system for sensor condition monitoring and to make the drive fault tolerant against the sensor failure without any extra hardware. The proposed single sensor-based drive is theoretically-modeled and simulated in the MATLAB/SIMULINK platform. The stability of the proposed drive is verified through a stability analysis. It is experimentally validated using a laboratory-developed PMSM drive prototype with a dSPACE-1104 controller board.

Integrating nanotechnology in dielectric fluid significantly inhibits losses and boosts overall dielectric fluid performance. There has been research done on the effects of introducing various nanoparticles, such as titania, alumina, silica nanodiamonds, etc. In this paper, a novel nanoparticle, Ceria (CeO2), has been used, and its properties were examined using the FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared) spectrum, the XRD (X-ray Diffraction) spectrum, the SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy), and the TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy). This paper illustrates an efficient dielectric fluid prepared by the successful dispersion of Cerium Oxide (CeO2) nanoparticles in various concentrations into four commercial oils, namely mineral oil, rapeseed oil, synthetic ester oil, and soybean oil, to enhance and improve their dielectric characteristics. The performance investigation emphasises breakdown strength enhancement and other dielectric properties of the colloidal solution comprising different nanoparticle (NP) concentrations. Various commercial oils are used as a base in nano-oil to diversify their applicability as dielectric fluids by measuring the correlation in dielectric parameters and statistically assessing their applicability with normal and Weibull distributions. The obtained experimental data sets were analyzed using the Statistics and Machine Learning Toolbox in MATLAB. The aging measurement has been done only on mineral oil, and results were matched using a predictive model of statistics and the Machine Learning Toolbox in MATLAB. Well-dispersed CeO2 NPs in the insulating oils lead to a significant increase in AC breakdown strength. The effect of ageing on the dielectric properties of nano oils yields better results than conventionally aged oil. It has been observed that the breakdown voltage is enhanced by up to 30% for mineral oil at an optimal concentration of 0.01 g/L, 9% for synthetic ester oil at 0.03 g/L, 18% for rapeseed oil at 0.02 g/L, and 19% for soybean oil at 0.03 g/L nanoparticle concentration. Following the dispersion of CeO2 nanoparticles, the dielectric constant of all insulating oils has also significantly improved.The overall experimental results are promising and show the potential of the CeO2 NPs-based nano oil as an efficient and highly performing dielectric oil for different power applications.

Abstract In recent times, multilevel inverters (MLIs) are gaining popularity for grid integration of distributed power generation sources. In this paper, a proportional‐resonant (PR) controller based on current control logic is proposed for a single‐phase eleven‐level inverter topology, enabling the integration of distributed power generation sources into the grid. The presented topology utilizes eight two‐quadrant switches and three dc sources to produce an eleven‐level output voltage. The level‐shifted pulse width modulation (LS‐PWM) scheme is used for providing switching signals to the inverter under grid‐connected operation. Simulation and real‐time results are presented for the eleven‐level inverter to validate the presented current control logic under the grid‐connected mode of operation. The hardware‐in‐loop emulator (Typhoon HIL‐402) is used for taking real‐time results of the presented grid‐connected topology. The total harmonic distortion (THD) of the eleven‐level inverter voltage and grid current is 12.10% and 0.46%, respectively. The efficiency of the inverter while supplying 2 kW active power to the grid is 98.4%.

Epileptic seizure detection has undergone progressive advancements since its conception in the 1970s. From proof-of-concept experiments in the latter part of that decade, it has now become a vibrant area of clinical and laboratory research. In an effort to bring this technology closer to practical application in human patients, this study introduces a customized approach to selecting electroencephalogram (EEG) features and electrode positions for seizure prediction. The focus is on identifying precursors that occur within 10 min of the onset of abnormal electrical activity during a seizure. However, there are security concerns related to safeguarding patient EEG recordings against unauthorized access and network-based attacks. Therefore, there is an urgent need for an efficient prediction and classification method for encrypted EEG data. This paper presents an effective system for analyzing and recognizing encrypted EEG information using Arnold transform algorithms, chaotic mapping, and convolutional neural networks (CNNs). In this system, the EEG time series from each channel is converted into a 2D spectrogram image, which is then encrypted using chaotic algorithms. The encrypted data is subsequently processed by CNNs coupled with transfer learning (TL) frameworks. To optimize the fusion parameters of the ensemble learning classifiers, a hybridized spoofing optimization method is developed by combining the characteristics of corvid and gregarious-seeking agents. The evaluation of the model’s effectiveness yielded the following results: 98.9 ± 0.3% accuracy, 98.2 ± 0.7% sensitivity, 98.6 ± 0.6% specificity, 98.6 ± 0.6% precision, and an F1 measure of 98.9 ± 0.6%. When compared with other state-of-the-art techniques applied to the same dataset, this novel strategy demonstrated one of the most effective seizure detection systems, as evidenced by these results.

An intense level of academic pressure causes students to experience stress, and if this stress is not addressed, it can cause adverse mental and physical effects. Since the pandemic situation, students have received more assignments and other tasks due to the shift of classes to an online mode. Students may not realize that they are stressed, but it may be evident from other factors, including sleep deprivation and changes in eating habits. In this context, this paper presents a novel ensemble learning approach that proposes an architecture for stress level classification. It analyzes certain factors such as the sleep hours, productive time periods, screen time, weekly assignments and their submission statuses, and the studying methodology that contribute to stress among the students by collecting a survey from the student community. The survey data are preprocessed to categorize stress levels into three categories: highly stressed, manageable stress, and no stress. For the analysis of the minority class, oversampling methodology is used to remove the imbalance in the dataset, and decision tree, random forest classifier, AdaBoost, gradient boost, and ensemble learning algorithms with various combinations are implemented. To assess the model’s performance, different metrics were used, such as the confusion matrix, accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score. The results showed that the efficient ensemble learning academic stress classifier gave an accuracy of 93.48% and an F1 score of 93.14%. Fivefold cross-validation was also performed, and an accuracy of 93.45% was achieved. The receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) value gave an accuracy of 98% for the no-stress category, while providing a 91% true positive rate for manageable and high-stress classes. The proposed ensemble learning with fivefold cross-validation outperformed various state-of-the-art algorithms to predict the stress level accurately. By using these results, students can identify areas for improvement, thereby reducing their stress levels and altering their academic lifestyles, thereby making our stress prediction approach more effective.

Accurate parameter estimation is crucial and challenging for the design and modeling of PV cells/modules. However, the high degree of non-linearity of the typical I–V characteristic further complicates this task. Consequently, significant research interest has been generated in recent years. Currently, this trend has been marked by a noteworthy acceleration, mainly due to the rise of swarm intelligence and the rapid progress of computer technology. This paper proposes a developed Mountain Gazelle Optimizer (MGO) to generate the best values of the unknown parameters of PV generation units. The MGO mimics the social life and hierarchy of mountain gazelles in the wild. The MGO was compared with well-recognized recent algorithms, which were the Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO), the Squirrel Search Algorithm (SSA), the Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm, the Bat–Artificial Bee Colony Optimizer (BABCO), the Bat Algorithm (BA), Multiswarm Spiral Leader Particle Swarm Optimization (M-SLPSO), the Guaranteed Convergence Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm (GCPSO), Triple-Phase Teaching–Learning-Based Optimization (TPTLBO), the Criss-Cross-based Nelder–Mead simplex Gradient-Based Optimizer (CCNMGBO), the quasi-Opposition-Based Learning Whale Optimization Algorithm (OBLWOA), and the Fractional Chaotic Ensemble Particle Swarm Optimizer (FC-EPSO). The experimental findings and statistical studies proved that the MGO outperformed the competing techniques in identifying the parameters of the Single-Diode Model (SDM) and the Double-Diode Model (DDM) PV models of Photowatt-PWP201 (polycrystalline) and STM6-40/36 (monocrystalline). The RMSEs of the MGO on the SDM and the DDM of Photowatt-PWP201 and STM6-40/36 were 2.042717 ×10−3, 1.387641 ×10−3, 1.719946 ×10−3, and 1.686104 ×10−3, respectively. Overall, the identified results highlighted that the MGO-based approach featured a fast processing time and steady convergence while retaining a high level of accuracy in the achieved solution.

Internal Combustion Engine based transportation rapidly increases the impact on the environment. The burning of fossil fuels in the industries and transportation sector breadth of global warming. However, Hybrid Electric Vehicle is not a permanent solution for emission-less road vehicles. Therefore, electric vehicles are the most feasible technologies to attain the goals of energy savings and zero-emission road vehicles. This paper sequentially surveys the key point of vehicles like; Powertrain strategy, configuration, fuel economy, reduced emission, and control strategy expounds in terms of its basic principles, pros, and cons. These key points make the energy management strategy more conclusive for the more efficient vehicle. In addition, this paper review systematically qualitative and quantitative algorithm in all type of EMS used in HEV and compare them with existing approaches in terms of pros & cons through a comprehensive analysis. Furthermore, addressed the potential research gap and provide the directives for further development in power train and ems in every respect.

Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF) is widely used for harmonics and reactive power compensation. However, in addition to the harmonics, harmonic resonance also exists in the network, which is prominent in configurations where both SAPF and capacitor bank are present in the distribution network. Resonance is mainly caused due to interaction between line impedances, capacitor banks and modern electronic equipment with capacitive behaviour. Harmonic resonance leads to an increase in harmonic level around the resonance frequency, which further increases the overall THD of the distribution system. As there can be multiple resonance scenarios which may also vary depending on internal switching of capacitor devices, it is difficult for conventional SAPF to address both harmonic resonance and current harmonics. Therefore, to improve the overall power quality, it is important to first identify/detect and then selectively damp the detected harmonic resonance in the distribution network. Detection of resonance with SAPF commonly require external signal injection, additional circuitry and sensors. This paper deals with non-invasive machine learning (ML)-based resonance detection, which only requires voltage harmonics at the point of common coupling (PCC) as input. Hence, it eliminates the need for any modification in existing control strategy, external signal injection and additional sensors. Also, Resonance detection, resonance damping and harmonic compensation is achieved by utilising only two types of sensors i.e., voltage at PCC and load current.

Tuberculosis (TB) is still one of the most serious health issues today with a high fatality rate. While attempts are being made to make primary diagnosis more reliable and accessible in places with high tuberculosis rates, Chest X-rays has become a popular source. However, specialist radiologists are required for the screening process, which could be a challenge in developing countries. For early diagnosis of tuberculosis utilizing CXR images, a complete automatic system of tuberculosis detection can decrease the need for trained staff. Various deep learning and machine learning technologies have been introduced in recent years for examining digital chest radiographs for TB-related variances with the goal of reducing inter-class reader variability and reproducibility, as well as providing radiologic services in areas where radiologists are not available. Tuberculosis is sometimes misclassified as other conditions with similar radiographic patterns as a result of CXR images, resulting in inefficient therapy. The current approach, however, is limited to Computer-Aided Detection (CAD), which has only been evaluated with non-deep learning models. Deep neural networks open potentially new avenues for tuberculosis treatment. There are no peer-reviewed studies comparing the effectiveness of various deep learning systems in detecting TB anomalies, and none compare multiple deep learning systems with human readers. In this paper, the aim of the proposed method is to develop an efficient tuberculosis detection system based on stochastic learning with artificial neural network (ANN) model by random variations using Chest X-ray images. This approach can able to incorporate random functions into the network, either by assigning stochastic transfer functions to the network or by assigning stochastic weights to the network. This proposed method is to learn features from CXR images and optimize the parameters of an ANN model by randomly mixing the training dataset before each iteration, resulting in varied ordering of model parameter updates. Furthermore, in a neural network, model weights are frequently initialized at a random beginning point. By focusing on randomness functions with optimization, the proposed technique achieved great accuracy. The motivation of the proposed method is to detect abnormalities in CXR with the different levels of complexity of TB by strong or weak evidence with different deep geometric contexts such as shape, size, cavitation, and density. ANN’s primary benefit is extracting hidden linear and non-linear inter-relationships of high-dimensional and complex data. The proposed method was systematically tested with the Shenzhen and Montgomery datasets using metrics such as sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy, and it was discovered that the proposed method attained better accuracy when compared to state-of-the-art methods. The proposed method shows an improved efficiency with sensitivity of 96.12%, specificity of 98.01%, accuracy 98.45% and F-Score 95.88% respectively.

The standard methodology to obtain the model of a power electronic converter is achieved by averaging the state-space dynamics of the converter’s state variables. But the average of the transformer current is null over a switching cycle in the resonant dc-dc converter. Therefore, the conventional method is not suitable for resonant converters, including the phase-shifted bidirectional dual active bridge (PSBDAB) converter. The two-time scale discrete-type models can resolve the problem associated with the standard state-space averaging methodology. The time-scale segregates the dynamics of the PSBDAB converter into fast and slow state variables, which can be modeled separately and eases the analysis of the PSBDAB converter. The effect of the core-loss of the inductor, dead-time of the semiconductor devices, output filter capacitor’s equivalent series resistance, semiconductor on-resistance, and the transformer copper loss components are included in the model to improve its steady-state and dynamics characteristics. Moreover, the stability analysis using a bifurcation diagram is carried out for the digitally controlled closed-loop of the system. Furthermore, the critical gain for the stable region with variations in the circuit parameters like load resistance, circuit equivalent inductance, and voltage demand is extensively studied. The modeling and stability analysis is validated in the simulation and experimental setup. The results verify that the proposed method accurately predicts the stable region with variations in the system circuit parameters. Thus this study provides a guide to select and tune the controller parameter to ensure the converter operates within the boundaries of the stable region.

The quadratic boost (QB) converter is a fourth-order system with a dc gain that is higher than the traditional second-order step-up configuration. The modern controllers that control these high-order dc–dc converters often only guarantee local stability around a steady-state equilibrium point, which is one of their primary drawbacks. In this article, a non-linear robust control law design to attain large-signal stability in this single switch QB converter is presented. In the presence of an unpredictable load, the control objective is to maintain the regulation of an output voltage. The Brunovsky canonical model of the converter was derived first, and the non-linear disturbance observer-based sliding-mode (SM) control law is designed based on it. An observer variable precisely estimates the output disturbances. The detailed process for deriving the control signal is described in this paper and the large-signal stability of the closed-loop converter system is ensured via the Lyapunov function. Finally, some simulation results are shown to validate the usefulness of the given controller.

Emotion recognition becomes an important aspect in the development of human-machine interaction (HMI) systems. Positive emotions impact our lives positively, whereas negative emotions may cause a reduction in productivity. Emotionally intelligent systems such as chatbots and artificially intelligent assistant modules help make our daily life routines effortless. Moreover, a system which is capable of assessing the human emotional state would be very helpful to assess the mental state of a person. Hence, preventive care could be offered before it becomes a mental illness or slides into a state of depression. Researchers have always been curious to find out if a machine could assess human emotions precisely. In this work, a unimodal emotion classifier system in which one of the physiological signals, an electrocardiogram (ECG) signal, has been used is proposed to classify human emotions. The ECG signal was acquired using a capacitive sensor-based non-contact ECG belt system. The machine-learning-based classifiers developed in this work are SVM and random forest with 10-fold cross-validation on three different sets of ECG data acquired for 45 subjects (15 subjects in each age group). The minimum classification accuracies achieved with SVM and RF emotion classifier models are 86.6% and 98.2%, respectively.

Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) is a trending technology of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) to enhance the healthcare system. This system is developed to monitor individuals by observing their physical signals to offer physical activity status as a wearable low-cost system that is considered an unremarkable solution for continuous monitoring of cardiovascular health. Various studies have discussed the uses of WBAN in Personal Health Monitoring systems (PHM) based on real-world health monitoring models. The major goal of WBAN is to offer early and fast analysis of the individuals but it is not able to attain its potential by utilizing conventional expert systems and data mining. Multiple kinds of research are performed in WBAN based on routing, security, energy efficiency, etc. This paper suggests a new heart disease prediction under WBAN. Initially, the standard patient data regarding heart diseases are gathered from benchmark datasets using WBAN. Then, the channel selections for data transmission are carried out through the Improved Dingo Optimizer (IDOX) algorithm using a multi-objective function. Through the selected channel, the data are transmitted for the deep feature extraction process using One Dimensional-Convolutional Neural Networks (ID-CNN) and Autoencoder. Then, the optimal feature selections are done through the IDOX algorithm for getting more suitable features. Finally, the IDOX-based heart disease prediction is done by Modified Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (M-BiLSTM), where the hyperparameters of BiLSTM are tuned using the IDOX algorithm. Thus, the empirical outcomes of the given offered method show that it accurately categorizes a patient’s health status founded on abnormal vital signs that is useful for providing the proper medical care to the patients.

Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is an innovative technology with a broad range of applications and highly attractive benefits, such as low cost of implementation and data transmission, unmonitored access to the network, autonomous and long-term operation. With extensive demand for the advancement of related technologies (cloud computing, near-field communications and cellular mobile networks), the Internet of Things (IoT) is becoming a very exciting paradigm. By using communication technologies in sensors and sensing features in web devices, WSNs have begun interaction with the Iot devices. IoT provides access to a large amount of information gathered by WSNs. However, the security of WSN and IoT comes at a cost, mainly due to privacy management issues. Therefore, this paper offers a comprehensive analysis of security threats against WSN and IoT, along with the strategies for preventing, detecting and mitigating those threats. The related defense mechanisms can help in building a safe IoT expansion and widespread understanding by getting familiar with the details of these attacks. The aim of this paper is to address and demonstrate the impact of the security problems on WSNs from the viewpoint of the IoT and its applications. In the analysis carried out for this work, a classification of available attacks and threats against these requirements has also been included.

For the purpose of accuracy in detection and diagnosis, Computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) is preferred by radiologists for the analysis of Breast Cancer. However, the presence of noise, artifacts, and poor contrast in breast images during acquisition highlights the need for sophisticated enhancement techniques for the proper visualization of region-of-interest (ROI). In this work, contrast elevation of breast mammographic and tomographic images is performed with an improved S-Curve transform using the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm. The enhanced images are assessed using dedicated quality metrics such as the Enhancement Measure (EME) and Absolute Mean Brightness Error (AMBE) measurement. Although the enhancement techniques help in attaining better images, certain features relevant for diagnosis purposes are removed during the enhancement process, creating contradictions for radiological interpretation. Hence, to ensure the retention of diagnostic features from original breast tomograms and mammograms, a Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT)-based fusion approach is incorporated, which fuses the original and contrast-enhanced images (with optimized s-curve transformation function) using the maximum fusion rule. The fusion performance is thereafter measured using the Image Quality Index (IQI), Standard Deviation (SD), and Entropy (E) as fusion metrics.

This study addresses the problem of the automatic detection of disease states of the retina. In order to solve the abovementioned problem, this study develops an artificially intelligent model. The model is based on a customized 19-layer deep convolutional neural network called VGG-19 architecture. The model (VGG-19 architecture) is empowered by transfer learning. The model is designed so that it can learn from a large set of images taken with optical coherence tomography (OCT) and classify them into four conditions of the retina: (1) choroidal neovascularization, (2) drusen, (3) diabetic macular edema, and (4) normal form. The training datasets (taken from publicly available sources) consist of 84,568 instances of OCT retinal images. The datasets exhibit all four classes of retinal disease mentioned above. The proposed model achieved a 99.17% classification accuracy with 0.995 specificities and 0.99 sensitivity, making it better than the existing models. In addition, the proper statistical evaluation is done on the predictions using such performance measures as (1) area under the receiver operating characteristic curve, (2) Cohen’s kappa parameter, and (3) confusion matrix. Experimental results show that the proposed VGG-19 architecture coupled with transfer learning is an effective technique for automatically detecting the disease state of a retina.

Introduction: An electrochemical sensor has the ability to transform the associated data containing electrochemical reactions into a reliable representative signal. The electrochemical sensors can be classified into potentiometric, conductometric, and ampere-metric or Volta-metric. Although, there are various electrochemical techniques for the detection of Vitamin D3, there is still a need for a simplified and cost-effective method. An electrochemical sensor provides great sensitivity towards the detection of the analyte. Aim: To fabricate an electrochemical sensor for the detection of Vitamin D3. The sensor used Molecular Imprinted Polymer (MIP) based Screen Printed Carbon Electrode (SPCE). Materials and Methods: The SPCE used was a three-electrode system consisting of silver working electrode, silver reference electrode and a counter carbon electrode. The reagents used in the experiment was p-Phenylenediamine, resorcinol and Vitamin D3 that were applied in a particular amount onto the SPCE. The process of electropolymerisation was carried out in order to form a non-conductive layer. Cavities were gradually formed on the surface of SPCE. A mediator was used to obtain reliable results for the detection of Vitamin D3. It is evident from the existing literature that the number of scans of electropolymerisation holds a significant role in this process. The procedure was applied for the formation of non-imprinted electrode in the absence of the analyte. Results: The presence of the template i.e., Vitamin D3 was recorded using the developed electrochemical sensor. The current decreased on rebinding of Vitamin D3 which resulted in the change of redox peak of ferricyanide. This signified the sudden increase in concentration of Vitamin D3 specifying its presence. Conclusion: The results obtained specifies the great sensitivity of the electrochemical sensor towards the template i.e., vitamin D3. The clinical relevance of such electrochemical sensors is that they produce simple, accurate and reproducible results which can be used to optimise the care of patients.

To prolong the function of wireless sensor networks (WSNs), the lifetime of the system has to be increased. WSNs lifetime can be calculated by using a few generic parameters, such as the time until the death of the first node and other parameters according to the application. Literature indicates that choosing the most appropriate cluster head by clustering is one of the most successful ways to improve the lifespan of the WSN. The drawback of clustering protocols is based on the probabilistic model. Sometimes they select two cluster heads for two different clusters which are very close to each other and results in head situated at the edge of the cluster in some cases. This type of cluster head selection leads to a reduction in energy efficiency. Therefore, we have proposed the LEACH-Fuzzy Clustering (LEACH-FC) protocol and implemented a fuzzy logic-based cluster head selection and cluster formation to maximize the lifetime of the network. For selections of cluster head and formation of the cluster, we have used a centralized approach instead of distributed ones. We have also employed fuzzy logic in the selection of vice cluster head, which is also a centralized approach. The proposed algorithm has been found to be effective in balancing the energy load at each node thereby enhancing the reliability of WSN. It outperforms other proposed algorithms for improving network lifetime and energy consumption.

In this article, a low-profile, compact, quad-port super-wideband (SWB) multiple-input- multiple-output (MIMO) antenna is presented for the internet of things (IoT) applications. The proposed antenna comprises four identical sickle-shaped resonating elements, which are excited by tapered coplanar waveguide (CPW) feed lines. The antenna elements are arranged in rotational symmetry (mutually orthogonal to each other) to achieve high port isolation. A complementary slot, which matches the sickle-shaped radiator, is etched from the ground of the proposed monopole antenna element to achieve massive bandwidth. The MIMO antenna possesses a resonating bandwidth (|S11| ≤ -10 dB) of 1.3-40 GHz and a bandwidth ratio of 31:1. In addition, an L-shaped slit and a complementary split-ring resonator (CSRR) are introduced in the sickle-shaped radiator to reject Bluetooth (2.4 GHz), WLAN (5.5 GHz), and downlink of X-band satellite communication (7.5 GHz) signals from the SWB. The proposed MIMO antenna is fabricated and experimental results are found in agreement with the simulated results.

This article focuses on intensifying in-vehicle biological wireless sensor networks for the persistence of monitoring the information on a precise vehicle. The wireless sensor networks will have enormous amount of nodules which are interrelated with each other. Therefore, these wireless sensor networks can be installed on a vehicle not only for monitoring perseverance but also for corroborating security with the support of a Global Positioning System expedient. In addition, the projected work focuses on reliable communiqué which is defined in terms of network reliability with discrepancy in reporting rate at each base station. To validate the efficiency of the proposed scheme, the simulation has been abetted using network simulator (NS2) and the outcomes indicate that when the sensors are installed, a robust system can be obtained with improved data transfer between the base stations. Moreover, a fortified in-vehicular sensor can be fixed in each vehicle with minimized path loss.

Continuous power supply in an integrated electric system supplied by solar energy and battery storage can be optimally maintained with the use of diesel generators. This article discusses the optimum setting-point for isolated wind, photo-voltaic, diesel, and battery storage electric grid systems. Optimal energy supply for hybrid grid systems means that the load is sufficient for 24 h. This study aims to integrate the battery deprivation costs and the fuel price feature in the optimization model for the hybrid grid. In order to count charge–discharge cycles and measure battery deprivation, the genetic algorithm concept is utilized. To solve the target function, an ANN-based algorithm with genetic coefficients can also be used to optimize the power management system. In the objective function, a weight factor is proposed. Specific weight factor values are considered for simulation studies. On the algorithm actions, charging status, and its implications for the optimized expense of the hybrid grid, the weight factor effect is measured.

The rise in power demand today necessitates its generation and transmission at high voltages. The efficient transmission of electric power requires transformers with an insulation system that exhibits excellent dielectric properties. In this paper ZnO and CuO nanomaterials are utilized to investigate the dielectric characteristics of pure synthetic ester oil and its related nanofluids (NFs) from room temperature up to 60 °C at increments of 20 °C, including AC breakdown voltage, Dielectric Dissipation factor, and DC resistivity. The breakdown testing is carried out in accordance with experimental IEC-60156 requirements. The DC resistivity and dissipation factor of oils are measured using the Dissipation Factor meter, resistivity meter, and a heating chamber with an oil cell that follows IEC 60247 standard. The statistical analysis is performed on the breakdown voltages test values using the Weibull probability distribution model for better accuracy. From the results, it has been found that ZnO nanofluid possesses a higher breakdown voltage among all the tested liquids. Furthermore CuO nanofluid gives a minimum value of dissipation factor even at higher temperatures.

The current sensorless vector-controlled permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive using a single sensor (i.e., speed sensor) is presented in this work. The current sensors are removed, and the estimated currents are used to close the current loop to minimize the drive cost and make it fault-tolerant against current sensor failure. A classical vector-control PMSM drive requires at least three sensors, i.e., two current sensors and one speed/position sensor. This paper presents a new current estimation technique that is free from inverter switching states, an integrator, and differentiator terms. The drive is suitable for retrofit applications, as it does not require any additional hardware. The reference voltages (vds and vqs) are used to estimate the rotor reference frame currents (i.e., iqs and ids). The presented algorithm depends on the stator resistance (Ɍs). The online Ɍs estimation algorithm is used for compensation to overcome the effect of the Ɍs on the estimated currents. The sensitivity analysis for the currents against the speed is verified and presented. The speed loop is closed with actual speed information, which will try to maintain the reference speed under any circumstances. The proposed current sensorless PMSM drive was validated using MATLAB/Simulink and also verified on a hardware prototype. The presented technique was verified for various operation conditions, and some of the extensive results are presented.

The survival prediction of children undergoing hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation is essential for successful transplantation. However, the performance of current algorithms for predicting mortality in this patient group has not improved over recent decades. This paper proposes a new feature selection technique for survival prediction problems using the Mud Ring Algorithm (MRA). Experiments and tests were initially performed on 13 real datasets with varying occurrences to compare the suggested algorithm with other algorithms. After that, the constructed model classification performance was compared to other techniques using the bone marrow transplant children’s dataset. Modern techniques were used to acquire their classification results, which were then compared to the suggested outcomes using a variety of well-known metrics, graphical tools, and diagnostic analysis. This investigation has demonstrated that our suggested approach is comparable and outperformed other methods in terms of results. In addition, the results showed that the constructed model enhanced prediction accuracy by up to 82.6% for test cases.

Reliability of the multilevel inverters (MLIs) is one of the most important concerns in industrial applications, mainly due to the semiconductor devices. Whenever a fault occurs in one of the switches of the inverter, it leads to abnormal conditions and can also cause serious damage to the equipment connected to the multilevel inverter. In this paper, a recently proposed nine-level Packed-E-Cell (PEC) multilevel inverter topology is investigated for its fault-tolerant capability and improved reliability. The analysis is carried out for a reduced device multilevel inverter topology that, due to a lack of redundant states, cannot tolerate switch failures. The fault-tolerant (FT) topology provides additional redundant states in the switching sequence of the existing topology. The work in this paper presents Packed-E-Cell MLI modified for fault tolerance against single-switch open-circuit faults. The modified FT topology inherently achieves self-voltage balance in the DC-link capacitors. Nearest Level Control(NLC) is used as the modulation strategy for generating the desired switching pulses. Simulation results are obtained in MATLAB/Simulink for the conditions prior to the fault, during the fault and post fault, and results are discussed. Experimental verification of the modified FT topology is also performed, in order to validate its effectiveness.

Thiolation of polymers is one of the most appropriate approaches to impart higher mechanical strength and mucoadhesion. Thiol modification of gum karaya and gum acacia was carried out by esterification with 80% thioglycolic acid. FTIR, DSC and XRD confirmed the completion of thiolation reaction. Anticancer potential of developed thiomer was studied on cervical cancer cell lines (HeLa) and more than 60% of human cervical cell lines (HeLa) were inhibited at concentration of 5 µg/100 µL. Immobilized thiol groups were found to be 0.8511 mmol/g as determined by Ellman’s method. Cytotoxicity studies on L929 fibroblast cell lines indicated thiomers were biocompatible. Bilayered tablets were prepared using Ivabradine hydrochloride as the model drug and synthesized thiolated gums as mucoadhesive polymer. Tablets prepared using thiolated polymers in combination showed more swelling, mucoadhesion and residence time as compared to unmodified gums. Thiol modification controlled the release of the drug for 24 h and enhanced permeation of the drug up to 3 fold through porcine buccal mucosa as compared to tablets with unmodified gums. Thiolated polymer showed increased mucoadhesion and permeation, anticancer potential, controlled release and thus can be utilized as a novel excipient in formulation development.

Recent research reveals that multi-phase motors in electric propulsion systems are highly recommended due to their improved reliability and efficiency over traditional three phase motors. This research presented a comparison of optimal model design of a six phase squirrel cage induction motor (IM) for electric propulsion by using Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). A six phase squirrel cage induction motor is designed and simulated by ANSYS Motor-CAD. In order to find the best fit method, simulation results are compared and applied to the motors for electric propulsion, considering the influence of design upon the motor performance. The six-phase squirrel cage induction motor is more energy efficient, reliable and cost effective for the electric propulsion compared to the conventional three phase motor. In this study, first the initial parameters of the six phase squirrel cage induction motor have been determined and then these parameters have been compared with optimized values by Genetic Algorithm (GA) and PSO optimization. The motor designed is optimized using efficiency and power losses as the fitness function. The six phase squirrel cage induction motor is designed using ANSYS Motor-CAD and the simulation results were also presented along with two-dimensional and three-dimensional geometry. The result shows that the weight and power loss are reduced to 161 kg and 0.9359 Kw respectively, while the efficiency and power factor are increased to 0.95 and 0.87 respectively when PSO is used. This shows that the result is promising.

Magnetic Levitation is a process in which an object is suspended with the support of the magnetic field. Despite being an unstable system, Magnetic Levitation Systems (MAGLEV) have profound applications in various fields of engineering. MAGLEV systems are sensitive, unstable, and nonlinear and uncertainties always pose a challenge in Controller Design. As a solution, adaptive controllers came into existence with adaptation mechanisms to cover the system uncertainties. In this study, a simple, novel, and an effective approach to the Enhanced Adaptive Control scheme is proposed for the ball position control and tracking of an unstable Magnetic Levitation System. The proposed Enhanced Model Reference Adaptive Scheme (EMRAC) follows the same phenomenon of the Model Reference Adaptive Scheme (MRAC) with a slight difference in its control strategy. The proposed scheme consists of Proportional-Integral-Velocity plus Feed Forward as the control structure and a modified version of the standard tuning rule is used as the adaptation mechanism. The control scheme is applied to a standard benchmark Magnetic Levitation System and the tracking performance of the scheme is tested by applying square and multi-sine pattern trajectories to the Magnetic Levitation System. The performance of the developed Enhanced MRAC performance is compared with that of the Proportional Integral Velocity with Feedforward Control (PIV+FF) scheme and the proposed control scheme is proven to be more suitable. The performance of the proposed scheme is also analyzed with Power Spectral Density and Root Mean Square Error to evaluate the ball position tracking control. It is inferred from the experimental results that Enhanced MRAC accommodates the changes and makes the system more reliable with good tracking ability.

This paper presents a compact 1 × 4 antipodal Vivaldi antenna (AVA) array for 5G millimeter-wave applications. The designed antenna operates over 24.19 GHz–29.15 GHz and 30.28 GHz–40.47 GHz frequency ranges. The proposed antenna provides a high gain of 8 dBi to 13.2 dBi and the highest gain is obtained at 40.3 GHz. The proposed antenna operates on frequency range-2 (FR2) and covers n257, n258, n260, and n261 frequency bands of 5G communication. The corrugations and RT/Duroid 5880 substrate are used to reduce the antenna size to 24 mm × 28.8 mm × 0.254 mm, which makes the antenna highly compact. Furthermore, the corrugations play an important role in the front-to-back ratio improvement, which further enhances the gain of the antenna. The corporate feeding is optimized meticulously to obtain an enhanced bandwidth and narrow beamwidth. The radiation pattern does not vary over the desired operating frequency range. In addition, the experimental results of the fabricated antenna coincide with the simulated results. The presented antenna design shows a substantial improvement in size, gain, and bandwidth when compared to what has been reported for an AVA with nearly the same size, which makes the proposed antenna one of the best candidates for application in devices that operate in the millimeter frequency range.

Effective and accurate diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), as well as early-stage detection, has gained more and more attention in recent years. For AD classification, we propose a new hybrid method for early detection of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) using Polar Harmonic Transforms (PHT) and Self-adaptive Differential Evolution Wavelet Neural Network (SaDE-WNN). The orthogonal moments are used for feature extraction from the grey matter tissues of structural Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) data. Irrelevant features are removed by the feature selection process through evaluating the in-class and among-class variance. In recent years, WNNs have gained attention in classification tasks; however, they suffer from the problem of initial parameter tuning, parameter setting. We proposed a WNN with the self-adaptation technique for controlling the Differential Evolution (DE) parameters, i.e., the mutation scale factor (F) and the cross-over rate (CR). Experimental results on the Alzheimer’s disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) database indicate that the proposed method yields the best overall classification results between AD and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) (93.7% accuracy, 86.0% sensitivity, 98.0% specificity, and 0.97 area under the curve (AUC)), MCI and healthy control (HC) (92.9% accuracy, 95.2% sensitivity, 88.9% specificity, and 0.98 AUC), and AD and HC (94.4% accuracy, 88.7% sensitivity, 98.9% specificity and 0.99 AUC).

In the present scenario the depletion of conventional sources causes an energy crisis. The energy crisis causes load demand with respect to electricity. The use of renewable energy sources plays a vital role in reducing the energy crisis and in reduction of CO2 emission. The use of solar energy is the major source of power in generation as this is the root cause for the development of wind, tides, etc. However, due to climatic condition the availability of PV sources varies from time to time. Hence it is essential to track the maximum source of energy by implementing different types of MPPT algorithms. However, use of MPPT algorithms has the limitation of using the same during partial shadow conditions. The issue of tracking power under partial shadow conditions can be resolved by implementing an intelligent optimization tracking algorithm which involves a computation process. Though many of nature’s inspired algorithms were present to address real world problems, Mirjalili developed the dragonfly algorithm to provide a better optimization solution to the issues faced in real-time applications. The proposed concept focuses on the implementation of the dragonfly optimization algorithm to track the maximum power from solar and involves the concept of machine learning, image processing, and data computation.

The application of Internet of Things (IoT) has been emerging as a new platform in wireless technologies primarily in the field of designing electric vehicles. To overcome all issues in existing vehicles and for protecting the environment, electric vehicles should be introduced by integrating an intellectual device called sensor all over the body of electric vehicle with less cost. Therefore, this article confers the need and importance of introducing electric vehicles with IoT based technology which monitors the battery life of electric vehicles. Since the electric vehicles are implemented with internet, an online monitoring system which is called Things Speak has been used for monitoring all the vehicles in a continuous manner (day-by-day). These online results will then be visualized in MATLAB after an effective boosting algorithm is integrated with objective function. The efficiency of proposed method is tested by visual analysis and performance results prove that the projected method on electric vehicle is improved when using IoT based technology. It is also observed that cost of implementation is lesser and capacity of electric vehicle is increased to about 74.3% after continuous monitoring with sensors.

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are becoming very common in numerous manufacturing industries; especially where it is difficult to connect a sensor to a sink. This is an evolving issue for researchers attempting to contribute to the proliferation of WSNs. Monitoring a WSN depends on the type of collective data the sensor nodes have acquired. It is necessary to quantify the performance of these networks with the help of network reliability measures to ensure the stable operation of WSNs. Reliability plays a key role in the efficacy of any large-scale application of WSNs. The communication reliability in a wireless sensor network is an influential parameter for enhancing network performance for secure, desirable, and successful communication. The reliability of WSNs must incorporate the design variables, coverage, lifetime, and connectivity into consideration; however, connectivity is the most important factor, especially in a harsh environment on a large scale. The proposed algorithm is a one-step approach, which starts with the recognition of a specific spanning tree only. It utilizes all other disjoint spanning trees, which are generated directly in a simple manner and consume less computation time and memory. A binary decision illustration is presented for the enumeration of K-coverage communication reliability. In this paper, the issue of computing minimum spanning trees was addressed and it is a pertinent method for further evaluating reliability for WSNs. This paper inspects the reliability of WSNs and proposes a method for evaluating the flow-oriented reliability of WSNs. Further, a modified approach for the sum-of-disjoint products to determine the reliability of WSN from the enumerated minimal spanning trees is proposed. The proposed algorithm when implemented for different sizes of WSNs demonstrates its applicability to WSNs of various scales. The proposed methodology is less complex and more efficient in terms of reliability.

A planar, microstrip line-fed, quad-port, multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna with dual-band rejection features is proposed for ultra-wideband (UWB) applications. The proposed MIMO antenna design consists of four identical octagonal-shaped radiating elements, which are placed orthogonally to each other. The dual-band rejection property (3.5 GHz and 5.5 GHz corresponding to Wi-MAX and WLAN bands) was obtained by introducing a hexagonal-shaped complementary split-ring resonator (HCSRR) in the radiators of the designed antenna. The MIMO antenna was etched on low-cost FR-4 dielectric substrate of size 58 × 58 × 0.8 mm3. Isolation higher than 18 dB and envelope correlation coefficient (ECC) lesser than 0.07 was observed for the MIMO/diversity antenna in the operating range of 3−16 GHz. The presented four-port UWB MIMO antenna configuration was fabricated, and the experimental results validate the simulation outcomes.

This article presents a compact, planar, quad-port ultra-wideband (UWB) multiple-input−multiple-output (MIMO) antenna with wide axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW). The proposed MIMO design consists of four identical square-shaped antenna elements, where each element is made up of a circular slotted ground plane and feed by a 50 Ω microstrip line. The circular polarization is achieved using a protruding hexagonal stub from the ground plane. The four elements of the MIMO antenna are placed orthogonally to each other to obtain high inter-element isolation. FR-4 dielectric substrate of size 45 × 45 × 1.6 mm3 is used for the antenna prototype, and a good agreement is noticed among the simulated and experimental results. The proposed MIMO antenna shows 3-dB ARBW of 52% (3.8−6.5 GHz) and impedance bandwidth (S11 ≤ −10 dB) of 144% (2.2−13.5 GHz).

A compact, low-profile, coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed quad-port multiple-input−multiple-output (MIMO)/diversity antenna with triple band-notched (Wi-MAX, WLAN, and X-band) characteristics is proposed for super-wideband (SWB) applications. The proposed design contains four similar truncated−semi-elliptical−self-complementary (TSESC) radiating patches, which are excited through tapered CPW feed lines. A complementary slot matching the radiating patch is introduced in the ground plane of the truncated semi-elliptical antenna element to obtain SWB. The designed MIMO/diversity antenna displays a bandwidth ratio of 31:1 and impedance bandwidth (|S11| ≤ − 10 dB) of 1.3−40 GHz. In addition, a complementary split-ring resonator (CSRR) is implanted in the resonating patch to eliminate WLAN (5.5 GHz) and X-band (8.5 GHz) signals from SWB. Further, an L-shaped slit is used to remove Wi-MAX (3.5 GHz) band interferences. The MIMO antenna prototype is fabricated, and a good agreement is achieved between the simulated and experimental outcomes.
