19. Comparison of torsional resistance of Reciproc®, WaveOne™ and One Shape® Nickel-Titanium instruments

Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışmada Reciproc®, WaveOne™ ve OneShape® nikel-titanyum (NiTi) eğelerinin torsiyonel dirençlerinin karşılaştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Çalışmaya 20 adet Reciproc R25 (25/,08), 20 adet WaveOne Primary (25/,08) ve 20 adet One Shape (25/,06) eğesi dâhil edildi. Eğelere ISO 3630-1 şartnamesine uygun olarak torsiyon testi uygulandı. Eğelerin apikal 3 mm’lik kısımları sabitlendi ve eğelerin şaftı, eğeler kırılıncaya kadar 2 rpm hız değeri ile döndürüldü. Eğelerin kırılması için gereken en fazla yük miktarı ve eğelerin kırılıncaya kadar yaptığı açılar kayıt edildi. Eğelerde oluşan kırık tipinin belirlenmesi için 6 eğenin kırık yüzeyleri (n:2 her grup için) taramalı elektron mikroskopu ile incelendi. Elde edilen veriler SPSS 21,0 (IBM-SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, ABD) programı kullanılarak, tek yönlü varyans analizi (ANOVA) ile istatistiksel olarak değerlendirildi. İstatistiksel önem seviyesi %5 olarak ayarlandı (p0,05). Sonuç: Çalışmanın sınırları dâhilinde Reciproc NiTi tek eğe sistemi test edilen diğer WaveOne ve One Shape eğelerinden daha yüksek torsiyonel direnç göstermiştir., Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the torsional resistance of Reciproc®, WaveOne™ and OneShape® nickel-titanium (NiTi) instruments. Material and Methods: 20 Reciproc R25 (25/.08), 20 WaveOne Primary (25/.08) and 20 One Shape (25/.06) files were used in this study. Torsional resistance test was applied to files according to ISO 3630-1. Three millimeters of each file tip was fixed and shaft of the files were rotated with 2 rpm speed until the fracture. Load amount involved and angle of rotation of the files at failure were recorded. The fracture surfaces of 6 files (n:2 for each group) were examined under a scanning electron microscope. The data were analyzed with one-way analysis of variance using SPSS 21.0 (IBM-SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA) program. Statistical significance level was set as 5% (p0.05). Conclusion: Within the limitations of the study Reciproc NiTi single file system had higher torsional resistance than WaveOne and One Shape files.

20. Dental students’ perception of difficulties concerning root canal therapy: A survey study

Abstract

Aim: This study aimed to analyze dental undergraduates’ perceptions about the difficulties they are facing while performing root canal therapy at a Turkish university, using a survey to identify students’ answers to difficulties and to make a dissertation by the educators about possible resolutions. Materials and Methods: One hundred and six undergraduates who had experienced endodontic theoretical and preclinical education before clinical procedures enlisted in endodontics at the College of Dentistry at Biruni University were involved in this survey in 2018. All of the undergraduates who had experienced the same clinical procedures answered the survey based on problems at particular stages of root canal therapy. A Chi-squared test was used to determine statistical significance between different parameters (P < 0.05). Results: For the first 13 parameters, students had the most difficulty in radiography (50.9%), root canal identification (67%), and obturation (54.7%) procedures. For these parameters, respondents mostly did not report any trouble; especially, in irrigation (87.7%) and intracanal medication (89.6%) procedures. Conclusion: Assessment of the major undergraduate difficulties during endodontic treatment may assist the development of teaching methods during preclinical and clinical teaching.

Abstract

Kök kanallarının irrigasyon solüsyonlarıyla etkin ve güvenilir bir şekilde yıkanması, endodontik tedavinin başarısı açısından büyük önem taşımaktadır. Kök kanallarının mekanik olarak şekillendirilmesiyle bakteriyel popülasyonda düşüş olmasına rağmen, irrigasyon solüsyonları kullanmadan bakterilerin eliminde edilmesinde tam bir başarı sağlanamamaktadır. Bu irrigasyon solüsyonlarından sodyum hipoklorit, günümüzde en yaygın kullanılan ve hala değerini koruyan bir irrigandır. Sodyum hipoklorit solüsyonunun kök kanal şekillendirmesi ve sonrası kullanımında etkinliğini artırmak amacıyla son yıllarda çeşitli yöntem ve araçlar geliştirilmiştir. Çeşitli irrigasyon aktivasyon sistemleri ve yeni teknolojiler kullanılarak yapılan kök kanal dezenfeksiyonunun, endodontik tedavinin başarısını artırdığı bilinmektedir. Bu derlemede bilinen ve gelişmekte olan kök kanal irriganları ve bu irriganların etkinliğini artırmak amacıyla kullanılan yeni teknik ve sistemler güncel literatür bilgileri ışığı altında gözden geçirilmiştir.

27. Effectiveness of different shaping and filling techniques in oval-shaped root canals

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, oval şekilli kanallarda farklı şekillendirme ve dolgu teknikleri kullanılarak bu tekniklerin etkinliklerinin karşılaştırılmasıdır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmada oval kanal varlığı tespit edilmiş 150 adet çekilmiş tek köklü premolar diş kullanılmıştır. Step back tekniği ve Reciproc döner alet sistemi kullanılarak şekillendirilen dişler sonrasında; lateral kondansasyon, Microseal, System B, Obtura ve Soft-Core teknikleri ile beraber kerr kanal patı kullanılarak doldurulup 5 alt guruba ayrılmıştır. Konik ışınlı bilgisayarlı tomografiyle axialden elde edilen görüntülerde her numuneden OnDemand3D-App software programı ile apikal, orta ve koronalden kesitler alınıp bu kesitlerde kanal dolgusu (güta-perka + pat) ve boşluk alanların yüzdeleri hesaplanıp istatistiksel olarak karşılaştırılmıştır. Bulgular: Şekillendirme teknikleri karşılaştırıldığında, stepback tekniği ile şekillendirilmiş dişlerdeki kanal dolgu oranı reciproc tekniğine göre istatistiksel olarak anlamlı derecede yüksek bulunmuştur. Dolgu teknikleri karşılaştırıldığında, lateral kondansasyon tekniği ile doldurulan dişlerde kanal dolgu oranı softcore ile doldurulan dişlere göre orta ve koronal bölgede istatistiksel olarak anlamlı derecede yüksek bulunmuştur. Step-back tekniği ve Reciproc döner alet sistemi kullanılarak şekillendirilen dişler 5 gruba ayrılarak kerr kanal patı ile beraber lateral kondensasyon, Microseal, Sistem B, Obtura ve Soft-Core teknikleri kullanılarak doldurulmuştur. Dişler 1 hafta %100 nemli ortamda bekletildikten sonra sünger kalıplara apexleri aynı sevide olacak şekilde gömülmüştür. Konik ışınlı bilgisayarlı tomografi ile tüm numunelerin aksiyal, sagital ve koronalden görüntüleri elde edilmiştir. Aksiyalden elde edilen görüntülerde her numuneden OnDemand3D-App software programı ile apikal, orta ve koronalden kesitler alınmıştır. 32. The influence of the irrigant QMix on the push-out bond strength of a bioceramic endodontic sealer.

Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of a commercially available irrigant, the Qmix 2 in 1, on the push out bond strength of Endosequence BC which is a bioceramic based root canal sealer. Material and methods: Sixty extracted maxillary central incisors were prepared with Protaper Next rotary instrument up to X4 (# 40). The specimens were randomly divided into four groups of equal sample size (n=15), according to the final irrigation regimen as follows: Group 1: 2.5% sodium hypochloride (NaOCl) (control), Group 2: 17% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), Group 3: 2% Chlorhexidine (CHX), Group 4: QMix 2 in 1. After rinsing, teeth were obturated using gutta-percha with Endosequence BC sealer. Slices were obtained from coronal, middle, and an apical section of the root canal. Push-out test was performed to evaluate the bond strength between the root canal dentin and the sealer. Data was statistically analyzed. Results: The push-out bond strength of the root canal sealer was significantly affected by the type of irrigation solution. Highest bond strengths were found in canals irrigated with Qmix solution, and these results were regardless of anatomical section of the root canal (p< 0.05). Conclusion: Final irrigation of the root canals with QMix had a positive effect on the bond strength of Endosequence BC sealer throughout the root canal. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
