Printed component sizes in electronic circuits are approaching 10 nm, but inherent variability in feature alignment during photolithography poses a fundamental barrier for continued device scaling. Deposition-based self-aligned patterning is being introduced, but nuclei defects remain an overarching problem. This work introduces low-temperature chemically self-aligned film growth via simultaneous thin film deposition and etching in adjacent regions on a nanopatterned surface. During deposition, nucleation defects are avoided in nongrowth regions because deposition reactants are locally consumed via sacrificial etching. For a range of materials and process conditions, thermodynamic modeling confirms that deposition and etching are both energetically favorable. We demonstrate nanoscale patterning of tungsten at 220 °C with simultaneous etching of TiO2. Area selective deposition (ASD) of the sacrificial TiO2 layer produces an orthogonal sequence for self-aligned patterning of two materials on one starting pattern, i.e., TiO2 ASD on SiO2 followed by W ASD on Si-H. Experiments also show capacity for self-aligned dielectric patterning via favorable deposition of AlF3 on Al2O3 at 240 °C with simultaneous atomic layer etching of sacrificial ZnO. Simultaneous deposition and etching provides opportunities for low-temperature bottom-up self-aligned patterning for electronic and other nanoscale systems.

Ferroelectric (Hf,Zr)O2 thin films have attracted increased interest from the ferroelectrics community and the semiconductor industry due to their ability to exhibit ferroelectricity at nanoscale dimensions. The properties and performance of the ferroelectric (Hf,Zr)O2 films generally depend on various factors such as surface energy (e.g., through grain size or thickness), defects (e.g., through dopants, oxygen vacancies, or impurities), electrodes, interface quality, and preferred crystallographic orientation (also known as crystallographic texture or simply texture) of grains and/or domains. Although some factors affecting properties and performance have been studied extensively, the effects of texture on the material properties are still not understood. Here, the influence of texture of the bottom electrode and Hf0.5Zr0.5O2 (HZO) films on properties and performance is reported. The uniqueness of this work is the use of a consistent deposition process known as Sequential, No-Atmosphere Processing (SNAP) that produces films with different preferred orientations yet minimal other differences. The results shown in this study provide both new insight on the importance of the bottom electrode texture and new fundamental processing-structure–property relationships for the HZO films.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have received substantial attention as alternatives to indium tin oxide for the production of transparent conductors. However, problems associated with the dewetting of liquid thin films have hindered the reliable fabrication of networked conducting CNT films via solution-based processes. In this study, the dewetting of liquid thin films containing single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) on substrates is successfully retarded by simply adding ethylene glycol to the SWCNT dispersion, and highly uniform SWCNT thin films are obtained using the meniscus-dragging deposition (MDD) method. The dewetting-free coating conditions for the uniform SWCNT films are determined by calculating the dewetting and drying times of the liquid thin films formed by the MDD method. When the dewetting time was 2.5 times longer than the drying time of the liquid thin layers, uniform SWCNT films are formed over the entire substrates without breakage or rupture of the films. In addition, the transmittance and sheet resistance of the transparent SWCNT films are easily controlled over a wide range by varying the coating parameters.

New approaches for area-selective deposition (ASD) are becoming critical for advanced semiconductor patterning. Atomic layer deposition (ALD) and atomic layer etching (ALE), that is, “inverse ALD”, are considered important for ASD, but to date, direct integration of ALD and ALE for ASD has not been reported. This work demonstrates that self-limiting thermally driven ALE, using WF6 and BCl3, can be directly coupled with self-limiting thermal ALD, using TiCl4 and H2O, in a single isothermal reactor at temperature 0.9, nearly a 10× improvement over previous reports of inherent TiO2 ASD. After ALD/ALE (=30/5) 14 supercycles at 170 °C, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy da...

We present a novel approach to produce high-resolution reduced graphene oxide (rGO) micropatterns based on a dewetting phenomenon of liquid thin films. The uniform liquid thin film of aqueous graphene oxide (GO) dispersion was formed by the meniscus dragging deposition method on a pre-patterned silanized substrate. Subsequently, selective dewetting of the water layer was induced due to the surface energy gradient on the coating substrates. After drying and chemical reduction, the high-resolution rGO micropatterns with a minimum feature size of 10 μm were realized over a large area substrate by consuming less than 1 μL of GO solution per square centimeter. As a demonstration of the application of this patterning technique, we have successfully fabricated organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) based on rGO pattern arrays as source–drain electrodes. The OFETs with the rGO electrodes exhibited a field effect mobility of 0.6 cm2 (V s)−1 with an on/off ratio of 1.79 × 106, which is higher than that of the devices with Au source–drain contacts.

During TiO2 atomic layer deposition (ALD) using TiCl4 and H2O at ∼150 °C, nucleation proceeds rapidly on hydroxylated SiO2 but is inherently delayed on passivated surfaces such as H-terminated silicon (Si-H) and trimethylsilyl-passivated SiO2 (SiO2-TMS) formed using dimethylamino-trimethylsilane (DMA-TMS) as a small molecule inhibitor. In this work, we explore details of TiO2 nucleation on both Si-H and SiO2-TMS and show that the mechanisms leading to unwanted nuclei depend strongly on the passivation mechanism. Initial growth is observed as a function of ALD cycles using scanning electron microscopy to obtain average particle size, density, and overall surface coverage fraction. Also, average film thickness vs cycle is estimated using ellipsometry or Rutherford backscattering spectrometry. Data are compared to an analytical model that considers that either nucleation sites are present on the starting non-growth surface or sites are generated during the ALD process. On the Si-H surface, data and modeling indicate that nucleation occurs predominantly from a fixed number of nucleation sites present on the starting growth surface that start to immediately grow. However, on TMS-passivated SiO2, nucleation sites are predominantly generated during the growth process so that the density of nucleation sites increases as growth proceeds. Results indicate that nucleation sites are created when adsorbed ALD reactants become kinetically trapped on the SiO2-TMS surface. This demonstrates that mechanisms associated with unwanted nucleation during area-selective deposition (ASD) can depend on details of the surface passivation scheme, thereby providing insight to help to improve ASD strategies for advanced applications.

Curved Cu nanowire (CCN)-based high-performance flexible transparent conductive electrodes (FTCEs) were fabricated via a fully solution-processed approach, involving synthesis, coating, patterning, welding, and transfer. Each step involved an innovative technique for completing the all-solution processes. The high-quality and well-dispersed CCNs were synthesized using a multi-polyol method through the synergistic effect of specific polyol reduction. To precisely control the optoelectrical properties of the FTCEs, the CCNs were uniformly coated on a polyimide (PI) substrate via a simple meniscus-dragging deposition method by tuning several coating parameters. We also employed a polyurethane (PU)-stamped patterning method to effectively produce 20 μm patterns on CCN thin films. The CCN thin films exhibited high electrical performance, which is attributed to the deeply percolated CCN network formed via a solvent-dipped welding method. Finally, the CCN thin films on the PI substrate were partially embedded and transferred to the PU matrix to reduce their surface roughness. Through consecutive processes involving the proposed methods, a highly percolated CCN thin film on the PU matrix exhibited high optoelectrical performance (R s = 53.48 Ω/□ at T = 85.71%), excellent mechanical properties (R/R 0 < 1.10 after the 10th repetition of tape peeling or 1,000 bending cycles), and a low root-mean-square surface roughness (R rms = 14.36 nm).

A conjugated polymer, poly(9,9-bis(6-bromohexyl)-9H-fluorene-alt-1,4-phenylene), is synthesized, converted to nanoparticles via a nanoprecipitation process, and utilized to fabricate thin films including conjugated polymer nanoparticles. The nanoparticles with surface bromides can be conjugated with an amine-functionalized dendrimer via a nucleophilic coupling reaction. Thus, when microliter solutions of the particulates are dragged at a constant velocity on substrates alternately in a layer-by-layer manner, thin films composed of the nanoparticles and dendrimers can be successfully built up on the substrates. Our results suggest a methodology to control the deposition of thin films bearing conjugated polymer nanoparticles while minimizing processing time and decreasing material consumption.

A key hallmark of atomic layer deposition (ALD) is that it proceeds via self-limiting reactions. For a good ALD process, long reactant exposure times beyond that required for saturation on planar substrates can be useful, for example, to achieve conformal growth on high aspect ratio nanoscale trenches, while maintaining consistent deposition across large-area surfaces. Area-selective deposition (ASD) is becoming an enabling process for nanoscale pattern modification on advanced nanoelectronic devices. Herein, we demonstrate that during area-selective ALD, achieved by direct coupling of ALD and thermal atomic layer etching (ALE), excess reactant exposure can have a substantially detrimental influence on the extent of selectivity. As an example system, we study ASD of TiO2 on hydroxylated SiO2 (Si–OH) vs hydrogen-terminated (100) Si (Si–H) using TiCl4/H2O for ALD and WF6/BCl3 for ALE. Using in situ spectroscopic ellipsometry and ex situ x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, we show that unwanted nucleation can be minimized by limiting the water exposure during the ALD steps. Longer exposures markedly increased the rate of nucleation and growth on the desired non-growth region, thereby degrading selectivity. Specifically, transmission electron microscopy analysis demonstrated that near-saturated H2O doses enabled 32.7 nm thick TiO2 patterns at selectivity threshold S > 0.9 on patterned Si/SiO2 substrates. The correlation between selectivity and reactant exposure serves to increase fundamental insights into the effects of sub-saturated self-limiting surface reactions on the quality and effectiveness of ASD processes and methods.

In this work, a whole manufacturing process of the curved copper nanowires (CCNs) based flexible transparent conductive electrode (FTCE) is reported with all solution processes, including synthesis, coating, and networking. The CCNs with high purity and good quality are designed and synthesized by a binary polyol coreduction method. In this reaction, volume ratio and reaction time are the significant factors for the successful synthesis. These nanowires have an average 50 nm in width and 25-40 μm range in length with curved structure and high softness. Furthermore, a meniscus-dragging deposition (MDD) method is used to uniformly coat the well-dispersed CCNs on the glass or polyethylene terephthalate substrate with a simple process. The optoelectrical property of the CCNs thin films is precisely controlled by applying the MDD method. The FTCE is fabricated by networking of CCNs using solvent-dipped annealing method with vacuum-free, transfer-free, and low-temperature conditions. To remove the natural oxide layer, the CCNs thin films are reduced by glycerol or NaBH4 solution at low temperature. As a highly robust FTCE, the CCNs thin film exhibits excellent optoelectrical performance (T = 86.62%, R(s) = 99.14 Ω ◻(-1)), flexibility, and durability (R/R(0) < 1.05 at 2000 bending, 5 mm of bending radius).

We report an effective method for fabricating highly transparent and stretchable large-area conducting films based on a directional arrangement of silver nanowires (AgNWs) driven by a shear force in a microliter-scale solution process. The thin conducting films with parallel AgNWs or cross-junctions of AgNWs are deposited on the coating substrate by dragging a microliter drop of the coating solution trapped between two plates. The optical and electrical properties of the AgNW thin films are finely tuned by varying the simple systematic parameters in the coating process. The transparent thin films with AgNW cross-junctions exhibit the superior electrical conductivity with a sheet resistance of 10 Ω sq(-1) at a transmittance of 85% (λ = 550 nm), which is well described by the high ratio of DC to optical conductivity of 276 and percolation theory in a two-dimensional matrix model. This simple coating method enables the deposition of AgNW thin films with high optical transparency, flexibility, and stretchability directly on plastic substrates.

Nowadays, it becomes a widespread and frequent practice that one content as a source is converted into diverse media formats. However, it is hard to answer the question whether the converted content might become successful again. That is mainly because one needs to have clear understanding about the characteristics of the target media format. This explains the phenomenon that there are very few successful movies which have been adapted from successful digital games. Thus, it is essential to conduct thorough and sufficient researches on the success factors of the adapted movies. The objective of this research is to investigate and analyze common factors of successful movies from digital games in terms of their visuals and narratives. We have found that successfully adapted movies from digital games shares three commonalities in the work of adaptation for effective cinematic impacts. Firstly, the adaptors of the successful movies have composed scripts with riveting storytelling through simplification, compression and removal of the original story. Secondly, they have satisfactorily re-implemented the original game avatars in the process of adaptation. Finally, they have effectively discovered inherent attractiveness of the original games and incorporated into the target movies with faithful following of cinematic grammar. We expect that our work contribute to reduce failure rate of the prospective movies converted from games by the proposed analysis of success factors shared among successfully adapted movies through the proposed case studies.

The objective of this study is to uncover the standard and procedure of the review for the online game to export to China and try to find a plan how to solve a problem such as regulation for the online game imported into China depending on a protective policy for homemade game. The literatures related to the policy of China online game industry and the present condition of the wholistic restriction are reviewed and the standard and procedure of the review of China online game which is veiled was able to find definitely by using the case study on Korean company which was a great success as localization in China. As a result of this study, we found that the key factor on the review standard of China online game is the anti-social personality, such as `the overthrow of Chinese socialist system`, `the territorial issue as the eviction of Hong Kong or the acknowledgment of Taiwan government`, `independence problem of the minorities`, and `damage to property as national treasure`, et cetera. While the review of the homemade game in China takes about a month through just two steps in review process on online game, that of foreign game is required over at least three months through four steps in it. Moreover, it is difficult for foreign games to obtain the license due to total amount regulation for online game by `General Administration of Press and Publication of the People`s the Republic of China`. In the case of the joint-venture company, it is most important to the smooth communication between Korean company and Chinese company in order to overcome these strong regulation for online game review in China. Furthermore, as Chinese company in outward appearance it is need to be positioned absolutely in Chinese marketplace. The definite positioning strategy enables foreign companies to avoid the strong regulation about the foreign game in China. To understand, finally, deeply politics, society, and culture presented in Chinese ethics textbook permits the foreign companies to predict the exact standard of the review for online game. Therefore, this study is concluded with key implications to sustain guidelines on the deliberation for foreign companies which want to export online game to China to improve the predictability and accountableness about the review of the online game in China.

Speed-run is a gameplay style in what the player tries to finish the game as quickly as possible. The purpose of this study is to observe and analyze the difference between a normal player and a speed runner in a speed run to better understand their interaction with the game and to extrapolate the applications of the analyzed frameworks to scenarios that extent normal gameplay. For this purpose, MDA (Mechanic, Dynamic, Aesthetics) and DPE (Experience, Design, Play) were used. As a result, the average player was found to focus on aesthetics or affects while the speed runner focused on mechanics and gameplay. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Mobile phones are an ideal platform for new interface applied. In this paper, we describe the design and development of a mobile gaming that uses an input data from slide on-off and microphone interface on the mobile phone. A keypad interface of the standard mobile game is compared with a phone slide on-off interface to control the user's various movements and the microphone interface to be highly immersive of the specific game. The game implementation is based on pop-up function of wipi platform and uses traditional materials. The design of appropriate human interfaces which go beyond the standard phone fitted with a keypad is suggested. Furthermore, the selection and design of these interfaces should consider the intended user experience for the game. Consequently this work is the first of a series of mobile phone games that we plan on developing in which the slide on-off input and the microphone input are used to determine the physical phone motion. Exploring alternative game approaches using these interface types, and moreover, it will also be explored and evaluated.

The transparent thin films with AgNW cross-junctions exhibit the superior electrical conductivity with a sheet resistance of 10 Ω sq-1 at a transmittance of 85% (λ = 550 nm), which is well described by the high ratio of DC to optical conductivity of 276 and percolation theory in a two-dimensional matrix model. This simple coating method enables the deposition of AgNW thin films with high optical transparency, flexibility, and stretchability directly on plastic substrates. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
