This is the first report of the presence of the Mexican mealybug (Phenacoccus gossypii) in cultured tarragon (Artemisia dracunculus), at different sites in Baja California Sur, Mexico. Tarragon is a perennial herb that has important economical and gastronomic value. The Mexican mealybug is disseminated through vegetative buds contaminated with eggs, larvae, or adults. To control it, several insecticides of different toxicological groups are used; however, their efficacy is low and this option compromises the organic production of this herb. Therefore, we developed a new technique using in vitro culturing of tarragon that does not contain the Mexican mealybug at any life stage, used for greenhouse production. However, it is relevant to mention that further research is needed to obtain the best biocontrol strategies to reduce the risk of new colonization of the Mexican mealybug in tarragon. Abstract The fractions of various functional groups in graphene oxide (GO) are directly related to its electrical and chemical properties and can be controlled by various reduction methods like thermal, chemical and optical. However, a method with sufficient controllability to regulate the reduction process has been missing. In this work, a hybrid method of thermal and joule heating processes is demonstrated where a progressive control of the ratio of various functional groups can be achieved in a localized area. With this precise control of carbon-oxygen ratio, negative differential resistance (NDR) is observed in the current-voltage characteristics of a two-terminal device in the ambient environment due to charge-activated electrochemical reactions at the GO surface. This experimental observation correlates with the optical and chemical characterizations. This NDR behavior offers new opportunities for the fabrication and application of such novel electronic devices in a wide range of devices applications including switches and oscillators.

Homalodisca liturata Ball, commonly known as "smoke tree sharpshooter", transmits Xillela fastidiosa Wells bacterium, which causes Pierce's disease and severe damage to many U.S. and Mexican orchards. This is the first observation of variation in host preference among populations of H. liturata in Mexico. Plants preferred by H. liturata were studied during 2007 and 2008 in an experimental field of a community of sarcocaulescent shrub plants in southern Baja California Peninsula. Thirty-one species of plants were associated with the insect, but only 26 where host plants, with a marked preference for Yucca valida Brand. and Prosopis articulate S. Watts, on which greater numbers of insects were found; fewer insects were observed on Lysiloma candida Brand., Cyrtocarpa edulis Brand., and Bursera microphylla A. Gray. Most insects were observed in March and April, and the insect was generally absent in the summer between July and September when temperatures were warmest. Unlabelled: Nowadays appendicitis is the leading cause of acute surgical abdomen. It occurs mainly between the first and third decade of life and is very rare in the neonatal period. The pathophysiology and clinical manifestations differ from the typical signs and symptoms, making it difficult to diagnose, which is in mostly cases at the time of surgery, and 74% of them appear with perforation and peritonitis. During the first day there were no complications; however, antibiotic therapy was initiated due to the risk of sepsis. On the next day there were changes in vital signs, fresh blood by nasogastric probe, acute abdomen data, cyanosis, and decreased tone., Case Description: A newborn male of 34.3 weeks gestation using the Capurro method, Apgar score 8/9, obtained by emergency caesarean section, in which the maternal abdominal cavity was with copious purulent material and perforated appendix with generalized peritonitis. Surgery was determinate, where they found necrotic ileum and appendix with five perforations in total, so resection and ileostomy was performed. Intubation and dopamine support were required, but removed within a short time, beginning oral alimentation.
