The article attempts to consider the work of the Moscow artist Maria Pak in the context of coloristic searches in Russian painting based on artists’ work with the white colour. The article opens with a brief outline of the development of the doctrine of colour in the European art of the early modern and modern periods. The main part is devoted to the analysis of the latest exhibition of the easel painting (March 2023) by Associate Professor of the V.I. Surikov Moscow State Academic Art Institute, Maria Pak, student of I.L. Lubennikov. Particular attention is focused on the “winter” canvases in which the creative task is to paint white on white. The author of the article makes the conclusion that colour preferences are not only determined by social, national and other conditions for artistic culture development, but also closely related to a person’s ability to empathize. The author comes to this conclusion considering the white colour palette of M. Pak’s easel painting in a broad cultural context — appealing to the works of painters as well as to the poetic creations of Russian writers.

The paper brings to the fore the need for developing entrepreneurial competences in school students. It describes the concept of entrepreneurial competence as an ability to put forward original ideas and innovate along with communication, organisation, project management, action planning, and risk-taking competences, receptivity, and also knowledge and skills required for starting a new business and implementing practical ideas to proceed successfully. The case is made for developing courses in entrepreneurship and the criteria of efficiency are determined as follows: clearly set objectives, balanced theoretical and practical content, focus on learning by doing, voluntary approach and motivation, social partnership involving businessmen, financial institutions, and municipal government bodies, openness of the educational environment, availability of training for teachers and contacts with businessmen, and opportunity to present the outcomes. A description is provided of the model and algorithm of creating a school business incubator using the resources of social partnership with businessmen, financial institutions, and municipal governance bodies. The outcomes in entrepreneurship education in the context of a business incubator include the defence of a business project under the supervision of a mentor conducted in a competitive form in two stages, namely, the defence of the business idea and the project itself. Various procedures are used to assess business incubator performance, such as questionnaires for students, teachers, and mentors and expert assessment of students’ entrepreneurial competence acquisition levels by teachers and mentors.

A clinical case of late neurosyphilis with prominent cognitive function failure developed in a young male patient is presented. Atypical disease development and negative laboratory tests required to perform the differential diagnosis with inflammatory and degenerative brain diseases, extended blood and CSF tests for syphilis. During the diagnostic procedures the patient received complex therapy with neurotropic, antioxidant, and anti-dementia drugs. The treatment improved cognitive function and increased the efficacy of further treatment.

Rate constants and ion product channels have been measured for electron attachment to four SF5 compounds, SF5C6H5, SF5C2H3, S2F10, and SF5Br, and these data are compared to earlier results for SF6, SF5Cl, and SF5CF3. The present rate constants range over a factor of 600 in magnitude. Rate constants measured in this work at 300 K are 9.9+/-3.0x10(-8) (SF5C6H5), 7.3+/-1.8x10(-9) (SF5C2H3), 6.5+/-2.5x10(-10) (S2F10), and 3.8+/-2.0x10(-10) (SF5Br), all in cm3 s-1 units. SF5- was the sole ionic product observed for 300-550 K, though in the case of S2F10 it cannot be ascertained whether the minor SF4- and SF6- products observed in the mass spectra are due to attachment to S2F10 or to impurities. G3(MP2) electronic structure calculations (G2 for SF5Br) have been carried out for the neutrals and anions of these species, primarily to determine electron affinities and the energetics of possible attachment reaction channels. Electron affinities were calculated to be 0.88 (SF5C6H5), 0.70 (SF5C2H3), 2.95 (S2F10), and 2.73 eV (SF5Br). An anticorrelation is found for the Arrhenius A-factor with exothermicity for SF5- production for the seven molecules listed above. The Arrhenius activation energy was found to be anticorrelated with the bond strength of the parent ion.

[reaction: see text] A new and convenient three-step synthesis of pentafluorosulfanylbenzene from 1,4-cyclohexadiene with an overall yield of >70% is reported along with a number of derivatization reactions.

A technique for coating the wells of microtiter-plates with polyaniline layers and with polyaniline/enzyme layers is presented. The resulting wells are shown to be useful for assaying enzyme substrates (as exemplified for glucose via pH) and hydrogen peroxide (via the redox properties of the film). Analyte detection is based on monitoring the absorption spectra of the polyaniline, which turn purple as a result of redox processes, or green on formation of acids by enzymatic reactions. Hydrogen peroxide (a species produced by all oxidases) and glucose (which yields protons on enzymatic oxidation) have been determined in the millimolar to micromolar concentration range. High sensitivity, film stability and good reproducibility of the measurements make the system an attractive alternative to existing biosensing schemes.

Sixty-five coronary patients were subjected to aortocoronary bypass surgery. Three groups were distinguished: 1) controls-no filters; 2) patients in whom hemotransfusion (40 mu) and infusion filters were used during and on day 1 after surgery; and 3) in whom leukocyte filters for filtering residual perfusate from artificial circulation device were used in addition to the filters used in group 2. In the controls plasma level of leukocytic alpha-glycoprotein after artificial circulation increased 22 to 36 times, whereas in groups 2 and 3 it did not increase at all. After surgery the severity of leukocytosis, hyperthermia, and hyperenzymia assessed from the level of SGOT was reliably lower in patients in whom the filters were used. The time course of the oxygenation index (PaO2/FiO2) indicated an improvement of gas exchange due to filtration of infusion-transfusion media. The minimal values of PaO2/FiO2) and plasma content of C-reactive protein were observed in group 3. The mechanisms of systemic inflammatory reaction and organ dysfunction and some aspects of the protective effect of filters are discussed.

A study was made of the influence of high radiation contamination within the ten-kilometer zone of Chernobyl disaster on the structure and function of the immune system of (DBA x C57B1)F1 and DBA mice. The cumulative radiation doses with respect to gamma-radiation, were 0.024, 0.168 and 0.336 Gy. T-lymphocyte proliferation was shown the be activated with all radiation doses mentioned above but with doses of 0.024 and 0.168 Gy, helper T lymphocytes, and with 0.336 Gy, suppressor N-lymphocytes were primarily activated. So, in the former case, some effector functions of the immunity were activated, and in the latter, inhibited. It is concluded that certain hyperstimulation of the lymphoid cell formation (including the increase in T-suppressors), that is induced by long-term exposure to low-level radiation, triggers the mechanisms of autonomous regulation of the system that suppress the radiation-induced lymphocyte proliferation and inhibit the effector functions of the immunity.

On the basis of the literature a postulate is proposed that the immune system contributes to regulating the intensity and direction of endocrine and nervous system functions in normal conditions and after the effect of ionizing radiation. The role of neuroimmunoendocrine interactions and their impairment in the realization of stochastic and nonstochastic sequelae of irradiation at various levels of radiation affecting the organism under normal conditions and in a combination with other unfavourable factors.
