Abstract

A flat band can be studied an infinitely strong coupling, realized in a simple system. Therefore, its holographic realization should be interesting. Laia and Tong gave a realization of the flat band over the entire momentum region by introducing a particular boundary term. Here, we give a model with a flat band over a finite region of momentum space using a bulk interaction term instead of the boundary term. We find that the spectrum of our model is precisely analogous to that of the ABC stacked multilayer graphene. In the presence of the chemical potential, the flat band is bent in our holographic model, which is very close to the band deformation due to the spin-orbit

3. Holographic Lieb lattice and gapping its Dirac band

Abstract

We first point out that the Laia-Tong model realizes the Lieb lattice in the holographic setup. It generates a flat band of sharp particle spectrum together with a Dirac band of unparticle spectrum. We then construct a model which opens a gap to the Dirac band so that one can realize a well-separated flat band, which can play the role of the hydrogen atom of strongly correlated systems. We then study the phase transition between the gapped and gapless phases analytically. We also made methodological progress to find a few other quantizations and we express the Green functions in any quantization in terms of that in the standard quantization., Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:2012.04279 by other authors

Abstract

Background: Active compounds from plants and herbs are increasingly incorporated into modern medical systems to address cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Foeniculum vulgare Mill., commonly known as fennel, is an aromatic medicinal plant and culinary herb that is popular worldwide. Methods: Protective effects against cellular damage were assessed in the H9C2 cardiomyocyte hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) experimental model. The identities of phytochemicals in FVSE were determined by GC-MS analysis. The phytochemical's potential for nutrients and pharmacokinetic properties was assessed by ADMET analysis. Results: GC-MS analysis of the ethanol extracts of F. vulgare identified 41 bioactive compounds, with four prominent ones: anethole, 1-(4-methoxyphenyl)-2-propanone, ethoxydimethylphenylsilane, and para-anisaldehyde diethyl acetal. Among these, anethole stands out due to its potential for nutrients and pharmacokinetic properties assessed by ADMET analysis, such as bioavailability, lipophilicity, flexibility, and compliance with Lipinski's Rule of Five. In the H/R injury model of H9C2 heart myoblast cells, FVSE and anethole suppressed H/R-induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, DNA double-strand break damage, nuclear condensation, and the dissipation of mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨm). Conclusions: These findings highlight the therapeutic potential of FVSE and its prominent component, anethole, in the treatment of CVDs, particularly those associated with hypoxia-induced damage. 12. Optimization of Contact Edge Profile for Minimizing Contact Pressure in a Press-fitted Shaft

Abstract

In the shrink or press-fitted shafts such as railway axles, the rotor of a steam turbine or coupling, a high-stress concentration takes place in the close of contact edge due to relative slip between shaft and boss in a press-fitted shaft and this is a major cause of fatigue failure of the shaft. The object of this paper is to build a finite element analysis model for analysing press-fitted and bending load condition in a pressfitted assembly and is to propose a hub shape optimization method to minimize a contact pressure in the close of shaft contact edge. Numerical asymmetric-axisymmetric finite element model was developed to predict the contact stress state of the press-fitted shaft. Global optimization method, genetic algorithm, and local optimization method, sequential quadratic programming, was applied to the press-fitted assembly to optimize the hub contact edge geometry. The results showed that the maximum contact pressure with optimized hub shape decreased more than 60% compared to conventional hub shape, the maximum contact stress affecting fatigue life reduced about 47%. In addition, hub shape optimization design could be a useful tool, able to increase the load capabilities of press fits concerning wear and fatigue behaviour.

30. A simple pharmacokinetic model of alendronate developed using plasma concentration and urine excretion data from healthy men

Abstract

The study of pharmacokinetics of alendronate has been hampered by difficulties in accurately and reproducibly determining their concentrations in serum and urine. Thus, pharmacokinetic characteristics of alendronate have been described in many reports based on urinary excretion data; and plasma pharmacokinetics and the simultaneous pharmacokinetic models of alendronate in plasma and urine are not available. The aims of this study were to measure alendronate concentration in plasma and excretion in urine concurrently and to develop compartmental pharmacokinetic model using urine data. In open-label, single-dose pharmacokinetic study, 10 healthy male volunteers received oral dose of alendronate (70mg tablet). Blood and urine alendronate concentrations were determined using validated high-performance liquid chromatography method. Non-compartmental analysis was performed using WinNonlin program (Pharsight Inc., Apex, NC). A one-compartment pharmacokinetic model was applied to describe pharmacokinetics of alendronate. A peak plasma alendronate concentration of 33.10 +/- 14.32 ng/mL was attained after 1.00 +/- 0.16 h. The cumulative amount of alendronate excreted in urine and peak excretion rate were 731.28 +/- 654.57 mu g and 314.68 +/- 395.43 mg/h, respectively. The model, which included first-order absorption rate for oral dosing, showed good fit to alendronate data obtained from plasma and urine. The absorption rate constant was 2.68 +/- 0.95 h(-1). The elimination rate constants K-urine and Knon-ur were 0.005 +/- 0.004 h(-1) and 0.42 +/- 0.08 h(-1), respectively. The pharmacokinetics of alendronate in plasma and urine of healthy men can be predicted using one-compartment model, and thus the behavior of drug in plasma can be estimated from urinary excretion data.

50. Effects of Hub Contact Shape on Contact Pressure and Fatigue Life in a Press-Fitted Shaft

Abstract

The objective of this study is to clarify the effect of hub contact shape on contact pressure and fatigue life with regard to the selection of a suitable taper design near the end of the fit. A numerical asymmetric-axisymmetric finite element model was developed in order to determine the contact stress state of press-fitted shaft by using four types of tapered contact surfaces on the hub. The variations of fatigue crack initiation life according to the change of tapered contact surfaces on the hub were evaluated by using the Smith-Watson-Topper (SWT) multiaxial fatigue criterion. As the result, comparing with the contact pressure and the fatigue crack initiation life, maximum decrease of contact pressure and maximum increase of fatigue crack initiation life were obtained for the 1/400 m/m tapered hub subjected to a bending load near the fretting fatigue limit. Furthermore, as the change of bending load, the optimal amout of taper in hub which fatigue life gets into maximum is varied. Therefore, we suggest that the best performance, in terms of pressure distribution and fatigue life of press fit, can be obtained by using a proper taper values for the hub element.
