The aim of the study is to reveal the experiences of social studies and science preservice teachers on the use of creative comics in the teaching of subjects related to environmental education. Since this study focuses on the pre-service teachers' experiences was used phenomenology design. A totally of 65 pre-service teachers participated in the study (35 social studies teacher candidates, and 30 science teacher candidates). Within the scope of the research, environmental education was given to pre-service teachers during one semester. This education process also includes creating and using creative comics in environmental education. Semistructured interviews and observations were used as data collection methods. Thematic analysis method was used in the analysis of the data. The results of the research show that creative comics can be used as an alternative teaching material in environmental education. According to pre-service teachers, creative comics enrich the learning environment. Results of the research, teachers need to pay attention to some issues for efficient use of creative comics. When using creative comics, teachers should keep students away from competition and negative criticism, which can negatively affect creativity.

Phenomenology design, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the research. 30 social studies teacher candidates participated in the research. Pre-service teachers who participated in the research were given disaster education during one semester (12 week-2 hours). This education process also includes creating and using educational comics in disaster education. In the study, semi-structured interview and observation were used as data collection method. Thematic analysis was used in the analysis of the data obtained in the research. As a result, it has been revealed that social studies pre-service teachers see educational comics as a material that can be used in disaster education in line with their experiences. The pre-service teachers stated that educational comics is attracting attention, engaging participation, making it easier to understand. Pre-service teachers stated that educational comics contain limited information, and takes time to create and use.

In this study, it was analyzed if there is a long term relationship among the nominal exchange rate and monetary fundamentals within the periods of 1998:1-2011:2 in Turkey. This relationship has been analysed by using structural VAR (SVAR) model. Besides, Granger causality test and Dolado-Lütkepohl Granger causality test were used to determine if there were a causality relationship among the nominal exchange rate and monetary fundamentals. As a result of the SVAR model, the relationship among the series related to nominal exchange rate and money supply, GDP, interest rate in Turkey in long term were not determined and at the end of causality tests, causality relationship among the nominal exchange rate and monetary fundamentals were not determined.

In this study, countries were analyzed between 1990 and 2011 in order to determine whether a causal relationship exists among current account deficit, GDP, foreign direct investment, and total credits of G7. Analysis took into account the cross-sectional dependence and was applied to test the causality among the variables form the panel. Firstly, panel unit root tests were used for determining stationary of variables. As a result of the panel unit root tests, it was found that GDP and foreign direct investment have a stationary structure and that total credits and current account deficit contain unit root. In order to see whether there is a long-term relationship among the variables or not, the panel co-integration test was used. As a result of the test, it was concluded that there is a co-integration relationship among the series. The possibility of a causal relationship was analyzed among the variables using the causality test developed by Elena Ivona Dumitrescu and Christophe Hurlin (2012). Results of the analysis showed a unidirectional causal relationship from current account deficit and foreign direct investment to GDP. Bidirectional causality was found between current account deficit and total credits. Finally, a unidirectional relationship was found from foreign direct investment to current account deficit and total credits.

Crude oil price is a critical cost factor for manufacturing industries that are of vital importance for economic growth. This study examines the relationship between crude oil prices and the indices of seven Turkish manufacturing sub-sectors over the period 1997:01-2009:12. The error correction model results reveal the long term causality from crude oil prices to chemical petroleum-plastic and basic metal sub-sectors indicating that these sub-sectors are highly sensitive to crude oil prices. We find no causal relationship for other sector indices for short or long time periods.

Introduction and Hypothesis: Sacrospinous ligament fixation(SSLF) is a commonly used surgical procedure in pelvic organ prolapse due to high treatment success rates. Many intraoperative and postoperative anesthesia-related obstacles may be encountered by the elderly population. Local anesthesia alone or with intravenous sedation may provide simple, cheap, and safe anesthesia. For elderly patients at high risk for general anesthesia according to the American Society of Anesthesiologists(ASA), it is better to operate through the vaginal route under local anesthesia. To perform minimal invasive SSLF surgery, the Pelvic Floor Repair Tissue Fixing Anchor, which is a target-specific system, can be used. In this prospective observational study, evaluation was made of elderly patients who underwent SSLF under local anesthesia. Materials and Methods: The study included 11 patients evaluated as high risk for general and regional anesthesia who underwent SSLF under local anesthesia as pelvic organ prolapse surgery. All operations were performed by a single experienced surgeon using 1% lidocaine infiltration and the Pelvic Floor Repair Tissue Fixing Anchor system. Results: The mean age of the patients was 69.6 years. Stage IV prolapse was determined in 7 (63.6%) patients, 4 (36.3%) had a history of hysterectomy, 5 (45.4%) were classified as ASA 3, and 6 (54.6%) as ASA 4. No complications occurred and patients were followed up for 24 months. In two patients, recurrence of POP was observed at postoperative 8 and 10 months, respectively. Conclusions: The results of this study demonstrated the surgical and anesthetic safety of SSLF under local anesthesia for pelvic organ prolapse in elderly patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of this study was to evaluate the vaginal position on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) after bilateral abdominal sacral hysteropexy (BASH) and classical abdominal sacral hysteropexy (ASH) and to investigate which method keeps the vagina the most proximate to its original anatomical position. Ten patients, with 10 having BASH, 10 ASH and 10 being nulliparous, were compared. The angle between the vagina and the pubococcygeal plate, the angle between the upper and lower vaginal segments, the distance between the posterior fornix and the 2nd vertebra and the distances between the lateral fornices and spina ischiadica were measured on MRI. A p value less than .05 was considered statistically significant. The distance between the vaginal axis and the left spina ischiadica was greater in the ASH group compared to the control and the BASH group (p = .011, .047), while it was similar between the BASH group and the control individuals (p = .473). The angle between the upper and lower vaginal segments was greater in the ASH group compared to the control group (p = .004), while no significant difference was found between the BASH and control groups (p = .112). BASH keeps the vaginal axis at a more proximate location to its original anatomical position. IMPACT STATEMENT What is already known on this subject: In pelvic reconstructive surgery; the anatomic correction serves the functional results. What the results of this study add: On MRI examination bilateral abdominal sacral hysteropexy (mimicking uterosacral ligament), keeps the vagina closer to the original anatomic position than classical abdominal sacral hysteropexy. Hence functional outcomes could be better, especially in the long term. What the implications are of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research: This study may be of interest for clinicians in terms of different methods for pelvic floor surgery and may be of interest for researchers to investigate the relationship between anatomic position and functional outcomes especially in younger patients. Objective: Psychiatric symptoms of varying degrees that accompany hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) may continue throughout the pregnancy or after, and these psychological problems may cause morbidity. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the relationship between the HG and psychiatric symptoms in the first trimester and postpartum depression. Methods: Two hundred and seven pregnant who were diagnosed as HG and 177 healthy pregnant women included in this prospective study. All cases were assessed with SCL-90-R in first trimester and with ED in postpartum period. Factors related to postpartum psychiatric symptoms were investigated with bivariate logistic regression analysis. Results: SCL-90-R and ED scores were statistically significant at HG group (p < 0.05). In cases who diagnosed as postpartum depression, the rates of HG and SCL-90-R results were higher (p< 0.05). In the bivariate analysis, the high rates of HG and high SCL-90-R scores were determined to be related to postpartum depression (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The results show that mental health is negatively affected by HG at pregnancy, and in this case, psychiatric symptoms may continue even after discontinuation HG. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
