The examination of students’ motivation towards lessons is an important aspect of educational studies. The constructivist approach significantly impacts the improvement of students’ motivation. The present study aims to examine the use of the 5E learning model with concept maps to support students’ motivation and compare the 5E approach and the classical approach to teaching chemistry in terms of motivational dimensions. The main subject of this study is an assessment of students’ motivation using the 5E learning model, which promotes student-centred teaching. The study was conducted with 100 8th-grade lower secondary school students who attended a school in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) during the spring semester of the 2018/19 school year. The study was conducted with two randomly selected groups: experimental (EG) and control (CG). The lessons of the EG were taught using the 5E Learning Model Improved with Concept Maps, while lessons of the CG were conducted using the current, conventional teaching method. The Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) was applied as a data collection tool in the study. Descriptive statistics and Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) were used in data analysis. As a result, it was determined that the EG students’ motivation scores showed a significant difference from the CG students’ motivation scores. Furthermore, a significant difference was established between the EG and CG students’ intrinsic goal orientation and test anxiety post-test scores. Although the EG students’ averages for other sub-dimensions were higher than the CG students’ averages, no significant difference was found between the groups.

Eklemeli imalat, bilgisayar kontrollü üç boyutlu katı model verilerini kullanan modern bir imalat yöntemidir. Eklemeli imalatta amaç; malzemeyi kademeli şekilde üreterek nihai şekline getirmektir. Bu sayede karmaşık geometrilere sahip ürünlerin elde edilmesi diğer klasik yöntemlere göre nispeten daha kolaydır. Özellikle, yüksek ölçüm doğruluğuna, yüksek dayanıma ve düşük ağırlığa sahip parçaların hızlı üretilmesinin gerekli olduğu havacılık-uzay endüstrisi, biyomedikal ve savunma sanayii gibi geniş bir alanda tercih edilmektedir. Eklemeli imalat birçok alt yöntemden oluşmakta ve bu yöntemler malzemenin cinsi, parçanın boyutu, kullanım amacı, çalışma prensibi, malzemelerin hassasiyeti ve özellikleri, üretim sayısı ve hızı gibi birçok kritere bağlıdır. Seçici lazer eritme (SLM) yöntemi, eklemeli imalat yöntemleri arasında genellikle tercih edilmektedir. Ancak, SLM prosesini doğrudan ve dolaylı parametreler olmak üzere birçok faktör etkileyebilmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, farklı üretim parametrelerinin SLM yöntemi kullanılarak üretilen Ti6Al4V alaşım malzemesi üzerinde mekanik özelliklerine etkisini incelemektir. Bu amaç doğrultusunda dört farklı üretim parametresi ve seviyeleri üretim parametresi olarak belirlenmiştir. Değerlendirme kriteri olarak çekme dayanımı, elastisite modülü ve uzama yüzdesi seçilmiştir. Deney tasarımında Taguchi L16 tercih edilmiştir. Deney sonuçları değerlendirilirken S/N analizi kullanılmıştır. Kontrol faktörlerin etki düzeyini belirlemek için varyans analizi (ANOVA) yapılmıştır. Deney sonuçlarından elde edilen verilerle çekme dayanımı için optimum parametreler; 75 μm lazer odak çapı, 230 W lazer gücü, 60 μm tarama mesafesi ve 300 mm/sn hız tarama hızı olarak tespit edilirken, elastisite modülü için 60 μm tarama mesafesi, 450 mm/sn tarama hızı, 80 μm lazer odak çapı ve 250 W lazer gücü ve uzama miktarı için 90 μm lazer odak çapı, 150 μm tarama mesafesi, 450 mm/sn tarama hızı ve 230 W lazer gücü olarak tespit edilmiştir.

Abstract The present study synthesized magnetite-pectin-chitosan (MPC), which is a nanocomposite adsorbent through partial reduction co-precipitation method. Its structure and morphology were characterized by Scanning Electron Spectroscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry (FT-IR) and Vibrating Sample Magnetometry (VSM). One studied the adsorption of Lanthanum and Cerium ions onto MPC in a batch system as a function of initial pH of solution, contact time, initial concentration and temperature. When the initial pH of the solution increased, the La(III)/Ce(III) ions augmented as well. The optimum pH for La/Ce adsorption was 5 and the maximum adsorption achieved within 30 min. The thermodynamics parameters such as enthalpy ( $$\Delta {\text{H}}^\circ$$ Δ H ∘ ), entropy ( $$\Delta {\text{S}}^\circ$$ Δ S ∘ ) and Gibbs free energy changes ( $$\Delta {\text{G}}^\circ$$ Δ G ∘ ) were calculated with the results suggesting that the adsorption was exothermic and spontaneous. To determine the adsorption characteristics, models of Langmuir, Dubinin-Radushkevich, Freundlich, Temkin and Flory–Huggins adsorption isotherms were performed. Langmuir isotherm model enabled the data of adsorption to be described very well. The adsorption capacity was seen to be 8.17 mg/g and 9.72 mg/g for lanthanum and cerium, respectively. The adsorption kinetics of MPC indicated that the adsorption process fit the Pseudosecond-order (PSO) model. Based on these data, it is concluded that short operating time, eco-friendly technology, and easy to apply MPC can be used for La(III)/Ce(III) ions removal.

The objective of this study was to assess the clinical, laboratory, radiological and prognostic features of tuberculous meningitis (TBM) in immuncompetent adult patients. Patients and Methods: Sixty-one patients with confirmed or presumed TBM seen over a 12-year period at the Neurology Department of BakA+-rkoy Research and Training Hospital for Psychiatric and Neurological Disease, Istanbul, Turkey, were analyzed retrospectively. Patients were grouped according to the severity of meningitis on admission (stages I, II and III). They were also divided into two groups according to the presence of paradoxical response (progressive increase of lymphocytes or increase of polymorphonuclear cells instead of lymphocytes) in CSF samples. A combination of five antituberculosis drugs was used in the 1st month of treatment. Patients received antituberculosis therapy for at least 12 months. The outcome of the patients was defined on the basis of the 12-month Barthel index (BI) score (BI &lt 12 poor BI aY= 12 good). For statistical analysis death was included in the poor outcome group. Results: Paradoxical response in CSF findings was seen in 20 patients. There was no statistically significant difference between the outcome of the patients with and without CSF paradoxical response however, new tuberculomas developed more frequently in the first group (p &lt 0.05). The overall mortality was 27.8%. Stage of disease was found to be independently associated with the 12-month outcome (OR 7.2 95% CI 1.7--30.3, p = 0.007). Conclusion: In developing countries such as Turkey, tuberculosis is still an important public health issue. Early suspicion and appropriate long-term antituberculosis therapy together with corticosteroids may reduce mortality and morbidity in TBM patients. COVID-19 pandemi sürecinde uzaktan eğitimde öğretimin yönetimine ilişkin öğretmen görüşlerini ortaya koymayı amaçlayan bu araştırma, nitel araştırma deseninde ve durum çalışması modelinde yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın çalışma grubu, maksimum çeşitlilik örnekleme tekniğiyle belirlenen 36 öğretmenden oluşmaktadır. Veriler, yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu aracılığıyla toplanmıştır. Öğretmenler, COVID-19 pandemi sürecinde öğrencilerin derslere erişiminde, derslere katılımında ve sınıf yönetiminde sorunlarla karşılaştıklarını vurgulamışlardır. Katılımcılar, karşılaştıkları güçlüklerle baş etmek için etkileşimli öğrenme yöntem ve tekniklerinden yararlandıklarını ve öğrencilerin ilgi ve dikkatlerini öğrenilen konuya odaklamayı sağlayan ders materyalleri kullandıklarını ifade etmişlerdir. Ayrıca velilerle iletişimi ve iş birliğini geliştirme, öğrencilerin motivasyonunu artırma konusunda çaba harcamışlardır. Sonuç olarak, uzaktan eğitimde karşılaşılan güçlükler, öğretmenlerin öğretim etkinliklerini planlama, uygulama ve değerlendirme sürecini olumsuz etkilemiştir. Özellikle teknik sorunların ve altyapı sorunlarının giderilmesi, araç-gereç ihtiyacının karşılanması, öğretmen, veli ve öğrencilerin desteklenmesi ve bilgilendirilmesi uzaktan eğitimde öğretimin yönetimine olumlu katkılar sağlayabilir.

Aluminum (Al) alloys are of particular importance to the aerospace industry owing to the combination of characteristics including strength, ductility, toughness, fatigue life and oxidation resistance as a light metal. This is the case of AA 2024 T3 Al alloy. In particular, machining of these alloys has similar importance for productivity and part quality. Recently, the use of nanofluids, which have various advantages in terms of both cooling ability and tribological aspects, has become popular for the efficient machining of such alloys. In this context, guiding data are needed that enable industry and researchers to machine these types of alloys with high efficiency. Taking these into account, in this study, AA 2024 T3 Al alloy was machined and various machinability indicators such as surface roughness, surface topography, maximum temperature and dominant tool wear mechanism under different cooling/lubrication strategies i.e., dry cutting, base fluid minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) and mineral oil based MoS2 nanofluid MQL (NFMQL) were investigated. As a results, significant improvements have been achieved in surface roughness, surface topography, and maximum temperature with help of NFMQL application. The intensive built-up edge (BUE) and built-up layer (BUL) formations are produced on the cutting tool when machining AA 2024 T3 Al alloy under dry cutting. On the other hand, BUE formation has been significantly eliminated thanks to NFMQL. Moreover, a less damaged cutting edge was obtained when machining Al alloy under NFMQL compared to both dry cutting and MQL environments.

Objective This multi-center study aims to determine the efficiency and safety of endometrial myomectomy (EM) for the removal of uterine fibroids during cesarean section (CS). Methods Retrospective review of 360 women diagnosed for fibroids during pregnancy. They all delivered by CS between 2014 and 2019. The study groups included 118 women who only underwent EM, 120 women who only had subserosal myomectomy by traditional technique and 122 women with fibroids who decided to avoid cesarean myomectomy, as control group. They were analyzed and compared the surgical outcomes. Results The EM, subserosal myomectomy and control groups were statistically (p > 0.05) similar for to age, body mass index (BMI), gravidity, parity, gestational age at delivery, indications for CS, number of excised fibroids, size of the largest myoma. Postoperative hemoglobin values and ? (?) hemoglobin concentrations were lower in SM group (10.39gr/dl vs 9.98 gr/dl vs 10.19 – 1.44 gr/dl vs 1.90 gr/dl vs 1.35; p = 0.047, p = 0.021; respectively) Hybrid fibroids were significantly more frequent in the EM group than subserosal myomectomy and control groups (respectively, 33.1% vs 23.3% vs 27.0%, p = 0.002). Surgery time was significantly longer in the subserosal myomectomy group than EM and control groups (respectively, 46.53 min vs 37.88 min vs 33.86 min, p = 0.001). Myomectomy took significantly longer time in the subserosal myomectomy than EM group (13.75 min vs 8.17 min, p = 0.001). Conclusions Endometrial myomectomy is a feasible choice for treatment of fibroids during CS, and, basing on our results could be an alternative to traditional cesarean subserosal myomectomy.

Bu çalışmanın amacı, ortaokullarda değerler eğitimine ilişkin öğretmen görüşlerini ortaya koymaktır. Bu amaçla çalışma, nitel araştırma deseninde ve durum çalışması modelinde yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 30 öğretmen oluşturmaktadır. Çalışma grubu ölçüt örnekleme yöntemiyle belirlenmiştir. Veriler, tümevarımsal içerik analizi ve betimsel analiz tekniği ile analiz edilmiştir. İçerik analizi sonucunda; değerler, yöntemler ve değerlerin öğretimi şeklinde üç ana tema belirlenmiştir. Öğretmenlerin görüşlerine göre, ortaokullarda öncelikle dürüstlük, yardımseverlik, saygı, hoşgörü, adalet, vatanseverlik, sorumluluk ve çalışkanlık gibi değerler kazandırılmalıdır. Katılımcılar, ortaokullarda değerlerin öğretiminde daha çok rol-model olma, örnek olay inceleme, drama tekniği ve öykü anlatma yöntem ve tekniklerinden yararlandıklarını ifade etmiştir. Katılımcılar ayrıca değerler eğitiminin süreklilik temelinde etkili bir planlama ve işbirliğine dayalı olarak yansıtma, özendirme ve örnek olma şeklinde sürdürülmesi gerektiğini ifade etmektedir. Değerlerin öğretim programlarında kazanımlar şeklinde yer alması, öğrenciler tarafından uygulamalı etkinliklerle içselleştirilmesi, öğretmenler, yöneticiler ve velilerin öğrencilere örnek olması gerektiği önerilmiştir.

Son yıllarda ekolojik soğutma/yağlama yöntemleri sürdürülebilir imalat için metal işleme operasyonlarında kullanılmaya başlanmıştır. Bu yöntemlerin başında ise birbirine göre üstün özelliklerin bir araya getirildiği hibrit soğutma/yağlama yöntemlerinin kullanıldığı çalışmalar ön plana çıkmaktadır. Bu çalışmada; AISI 2507 dubleks paslanmaz çeliğinin Minimum Miktarda Yağlama (MMY), kriyojenik soğutma (Kry) ve hibrit (Kry+MMY) soğutma/yağlama koşulları altında tornalanmasında, yüzey kalitesi incelenmiştir. İşlenen yüzeylerin kalitesinin belirlenmesinde yüzey pürüzlülük (Ra), iki boyutlu yüzey görüntüleri ve üç boyutlu yüzey topografyaları kullanılmıştır. Deneyler üç farklı soğutma/yağlama koşulunda (MMY, Kry ve Kry+MMY), kesme hızında (80, 120 ve 160 m/dak) ve ilerlemede (0,16-0,20 ve 0,24 mm/dev) gerçekleştirilmiştir. Deney tasarımında ve optimum koşulların belirlenmesinde Taguchi L27 tasarımı kullanılmıştır. Deneysel sonuçlara etki eden faktörler ve faktörlerin etki oranlarını belirlemek için varyans analizi (ANOVA) kullanılmıştır. Deney sonuçlarına göre yüzey kalitesi için optimum koşullar, Kry+MMY hibrit soğutma/yağlama koşulu, 160 m/dak kesme hızı ve 0,16 mm/dev ilerleme olarak belirlenmiştir. En iyi Ra değeri (1,151 µm) A3, B3, C1 koşulunda, en kötü Ra değeri ise (-2,861 µm) A2, B1, C3 koşulunda elde edilmiştir.

Although nickel-based aerospace superalloys such as alloy 625 have superior properties including high-tensile and fatigue strength, corrosion resistance and good weldability, etc., its machinability is a difficult task which can be solved with alternative cooling/lubrication strategies. It is also important that these solution methods are sustainable. In order to facilitate the machinability of alloy 625 with sustainable techniques, we investigated the effect of minimum quantity lubrication (MQL), cryogenic cooling with liquid nitrogen (LN2) and hybrid-CryoMQL methods on tool wear behavior, cutting temperature, surface roughness/topography and chip morphology in a turning operation. The experiments were performed at three cutting speeds (50, 75 and 100 m/min), fixed cutting depth (0.5 mm) and feed rate (0.12 mm/rev). As a result, CryoMQL improved surface roughness (1.42 µm) by 24.82% compared to cryogenic cooling. The medium level of cutting speed (75 m/min) can be preferred for the lowest roughness value and lowest peak-to-valley height when turning of alloy 625. Further, tool wear is decreased by 50.67% and 79.60% by the use of MQL and CryoMQL compared with cryogenic machining. An interesting result that MQL is more effective than cryogenic machining in reducing cutting tool wear. Prolactinoma is the most common pituitary tumor. Most pituitary tumors are benign, but they often are clinically significant. We investigated cytokinesis-block micronucleus cytome (CBMN cyt) assay parameters and oxidative DNA damage in patients with prolactinoma to assess the relations among age, prolactin level, pituitary adenoma diameter and 8-hydroxy-2’-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) level in patients with prolactinoma. We investigated 27 patients diagnosed with prolactinoma and 20 age- and sex-matched healthy controls. We measured CBMN cyt parameters and plasma 8-OHdG levels in peripheral blood lymphocytes of patients with prolactinoma and controls. The frequencies of micronucleus (MN), nucleoplasmic bridge, nuclear bud, apoptotic and necrotic cells, and plasma 8-OHdG levels in patients with prolactinoma were significantly greater than controls. MN frequency was correlated positively with age, prolactin levels and pituitary adenoma diameters in patients with prolactinoma. The increased chromosomal and oxidative DNA damage, and the positive correlation between MN frequency, prolactin levels and pituitary adenoma diameters may be associated with increased risk of cancer in patients with prolactinoma, because increased MN frequency is a predictor of cancer risk.
