All research articles begin with a title. Most include an abstract. Several include keywords. All three of these features describe an article’s content in details. The title sends an instant reflection of the central theme of the research topic. The abstract summarizes the content. The keywords indicate the core and allied fields of concern. The researchers and indexers quickly and easily locate particular articles within their areas of interest with the aid of keywords. Keywords hold prime importance in abstracting and indexing services. Keywords play major role in information retrieval function. This paper is based on analysis of 14,221 keywords collected from 2,526 research articles published in three journals, viz. Chaos, Physics of plasmas and Low temperature physics since 2006 to 2012. Out of all these author-assigned keywords, the number of distinct bits obtained was 2571. After collection, the lexically close keywords are identified that form clusters. Several such clusters are found and the composition of keywords in nearly all clusters varies over the said time span. Four indicators have been defined on the basis of fluctuating keyword composition within clusters. The name given to these four indicators are stability index, integrated visibility index, momentary visibility index and potency index respectively. These indicators hold different values for different clusters. The value ranges of them are categorized in five groups, viz. very high, high, medium, low and very low. A new quantitative subject access tool has been proposed on the basis of these indicators, which can predict the probable new and obsolete keywords in any subject domain. The name given to this new tool is keysaurus, i.e. keyword-based-thesaurus.

The fruits of research from the formal research programmes of conventional universities and academic research institutions in India were under-utilized as the access to theses, dissertations and research reports were very limited to the next generation researchers and scholars. Modern information and communication technology (ICT) acts as an effective intervener for paradigm shifting from closed access theses and dissertations to open access electronic theses and dissertations (ETD). Now, the researchers in national institutions and universities in India have greater access to research literature, due to subscription to many e-journals and scholarly databases in most subject areas. But, the access to thesis and dissertation literature is very limited due to lack of national databases of theses and dissertations, both in bibliographic and full-text formats. Recently, India's University Grants Commission enacted "UGC (Submission of Metadata and Full-text of Doctoral Theses in Electronic Format) Regulations, 2005" to strengthen national capability of producing electronic theses and dissertations, and, to maintain university-level and national level databases of theses and dissertations. Some elite research institutions, such as Indian Institute of Science, have already started providing access to ETDs through open access archives. Some other institutions have taken initiatives to provide access to ETDs only through intranet (within the campus). The Vidyanidhi, INDEST Consortium, CSIR and INFLIBNET Centre are working towards implementation of open access ETD and/or bibliographic databases of theses and dissertations, but they also have some limitations. National policies on open access to ETD and other research literature, particularly the public funded ones, are yet to be ready. In India, some advocacy and pressure groups also exist that support open access to scholarly literature. Present paper explores the policy frameworks, strategic dimensions and analyses SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) of existing ETD initiatives in India.

The use of Internet by students, teachers, researchers, journalists, librarians, information scientists, and numerous other professionals have already gathered momentum in our country with the strengthening of information infrastructure day-by-day. The number of Internet service providers, personal Internet connections, institutional Internet connections, cyber cafes, etc are also multiplying at a rapid rate. Biomedical practitioners in the world are also finding Internet-based information resources highly useful inasmuch as it is providing latest information about the harmful drugs being withdrawn, new drugs being introduced in the world, novel medical equipments being marketed, unique surgical techniques becoming successful, and so on. At this juncture, a question automatically arises as to what extent this facility is being used by biomedical practitioners of a region of our country, where computerization and Internet facility etc have started rather late. The study aims to find out the use of Indian digital libraries by biomedical practitioners in the West Bengal region. The data is to be gathered through a structured questionnaire that was circulated among biomedical practitioners. The questionnaire seeks to elicit the information on the extent of the use of open access biomedical literature; awareness about the biomedical databases, electronic journals, digital libraries, digital archives, web portals of biomedical organizations, etc. Digital libraries have already started coming up in India. National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources is developing Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL), and National Informatics Centre is developing INDmed (Indian Biomedical Database), medIND (Indian Biomedical Literature) and OpenMed (Open Access archive on biomedical literature). All these databases are accessible free of cost. The study will lay special emphasis on the use of these biomedical information resources. Based on the findings of the study, suggestions are made as to how the awareness among biomedical practitioners can be increased to optimize the use of biomedical information resources in general and Indian digital libraries in particular.

In India, a number of national level institutions are digitizing their own information resources and varieties of rare items. The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has also established Digital Library of India Initiative. The digital libraries and institutional repositories in India include digitized collection of academic publications, like, dissertations, theses, research reports, working papers and research papers other than rare books and manuscripts. All these digitized materials can be made available and accessible to the learners of distance education. The distance and open learners should not be confined into the study materials provided to them and can explore the universe of knowledge through the digital libraries, institutional repositories and learning objects repositories available today. Present study explores the digital libraries and institutional repositories initiatives, programmes and projects in India that can be helpful to the distant and open learners. There is also need of establishing a national level learning objects repository for the benefits of open and distance learners and their tutors.

Leland H. Hartwell was honoured with the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine (2001) at his 62 years age and at 41 years of research publishing career. The first contribution of the author was in 1961 at the age of 22. The number of his contributions in a year peaked in 1997 when it touched 8. He had 108 publications during 1961 – 2001 in domains: Molecular Biology of Cell Cycle Regulation (43), Genetics of Cell Division (48), Genomic Re-arrangement and DNA Repair (9), Molecular Genetics of Yeast Cell Fission (5), and Drug Target Interaction (3) which were analysed for authorship pattern with his 101 collaborators. Most active researchers having number of publications with Leland H. Hartwell were : Weinert, T. A. (10), Garvik, B. M. (8), McLaughlin, C. S. (8), Jenness, D. D. (5). His productivity coefficient was 0.76 which clearly indicates that his productivity increased after 50 percentile age. Highest collaboration coefficient (1) for Leland H. Hartwell was found during 1963-1965, 1968-1969, 1977, 1981-1983, 1985-1990, 1996 and 1998-2001. Journals have been the most preferred channel of communication where, as many as 96 papers out of 108 have been published. The core journals publishing his papers were: Cell (14), Genetics (12), Mol. Cell Biol. (8), J. Bactariol. (7), J. Cell Biol. ( 7), Science (7) J. Mol. Biol.(6), Exp. Cell Res. (5), and Proc. Nat. Acad. Sci.(5). Publication density is 2.63 and Publication concentration is 14.63. Most prolific keywords in titles of publications were: Saccharomyces cerevisiae , Yeast , Cell division cycle , RAD9, DNA Damage , Genes , Cell cycle, Genetic control , Check point (s) , Cell division , Mutant of Yeast.

Analyses bibliometrically 226 publications [Papers Published in journals-220, thesis [others 4] by Biman Bagchi, a renowned physical chemist from India, published during 1981 to 2002. The first contribution of the author was in 1981 at the age of 27. The number of his contributions in a year peaked in 1999 and 2002 when it touched 19. The author is highly productive in as much as on average the author has produced 10 papers per year. In the byline of authorship, Bagchi occupies the first authorship position in 69 cases. His collaborator A. Chandra occupies the first authorship position in 30 papers thus becoming Bagchi's closest collaborator. The journal has been the most preferred channel of communication of the author in as much as 220 papers out of 226 have been praced in journals. J. Chem. Phys. is found to be the most preferred journal that carried 91 papers of the author, followed by Chem. Phys. Lett. (21 papers). J. Phys. Chem. (19 papers), Proc. Indian Acad. Sci. - Chem. Sci. (13 papers), and others. Of the papers, 179 received 4030 citations and 47 received no citations. It is expected that more than 20 uncited papers till 2002 will receive citations in future. Three papers of the author have received more than 200 citations each, and another three received between 100-200 citations each. The number of papers receiving 10 citations or more total 92. On four different years the scientist has received more than 300 citations and his citation rate per paper has peaked at 18.98. The article shows with a concrete example the growth, peaking and declining of citation rate. A few new terms such as citation gain, citation loss, gaining citation rate and losing citation rate have been introduced and described.
