The commensal microflora provides a repertoire of antigens that illicit mucosal antibodies. In some cases, these antibodies can cross-react with host proteins, inducing autoimmunity, or with other microbial antigens. We demonstrate that the oral microbiota can induce salivary anti-SARS-CoV-2 Spike IgG antibodies via molecular mimicry. Anti-Spike IgG antibodies in the saliva correlated with enhanced abundance of Streptococcus salivarius 1 month after anti-SARS-CoV-2 vaccination. Several human commensal bacteria, including S. salivarius, were recognized by SARS-CoV-2-neutralizing monoclonal antibodies and induced cross-reactive anti-Spike antibodies in mice, facilitating SARS-CoV-2 clearance. A specific S. salivarius protein, RSSL-01370, contains regions with homology to the Spike receptor-binding domain, and immunization of mice with RSSL-01370 elicited anti-Spike IgG antibodies in the serum. Additionally, oral S. salivarius supplementation enhanced salivary anti-Spike antibodies in vaccinated individuals. Purpose : There is no significant evidence of both biological and motivational effects between virtual reality exercises to traditional/conventional exercise. The aim of this study is to assess the biological and motivational effects of aerobic exercises with virtual reality and traditional exercise methods. Methods : 20 students participated as control and 60 students were divided randomly and equally into two groups, virtual reality exercise group (VRE) and traditional exercise group (TE). Two groups completed the exercise training. Tests were applied to the three groups at the beginning and in the end of the study. An activity monitor and pulse oximeter were used to measure energy expenditure during exercises. Results : After eight weeks, the data from pulse oximeter showed no statistical significance between the exercise groups. The active energy expenditure, PAL and step counts were statistically significant in TE group. There was a statistically significant increase in the sleep quality of the TE group ( p = .000). There was no statistical significance among the anxiety scores of all groups. In the spring semester, there was a statistically significant increase in both VRE and TE groups compared to the fall semester ( p < .05). Conclusion : The virtual reality exercises produce greater motivational effects, whereas traditional exercises bring greater physical improvements.

The intestinal tract is densely populated by microbiota consisting of various commensal microorganisms that are instrumental for the healthy state of the living organism. Such commensals generate various molecules that can be recognized by the Toll-like receptors of the immune system leading to the inflammation marked by strong upregulation of various proinflammatory cytokines, such as TNF, IL-6, and IL-1β. To prevent excessive inflammation, a single layer of constantly renewing, highly proliferating epithelial cells (IEC) provides proper segregation of such microorganisms from the body cavities. There are various triggers which facilitate the disturbance of the epithelial barrier which often leads to inflammation. However, the nature and duration of the stress may determine the state of the epithelial cells and their responses to cytokines. Here we discuss the role of the microbiota-TLR-cytokine axis in the maintenance of the epithelial tissue integrity. Background: In recent times, medical schools have committed to developing good communication and history taking skills in students. However, there remains an unresolved question as to which constitutes the best educational method. Our study aims to investigate whether the use of videotape recording is superior to verbal feedback alone in the teaching of clinical skills and the role of student self-assessment on history taking and communication skills., Methods: A randomized controlled trial was designed. The study was conducted with 52 of the Dokuz Eylul University Faculty of Medicine second year students. All students' performances of communication and history taking skills were assessed twice. Between these assessments, the study group had received both verbal and visual feedback by watching their video recordings on patient interview; the control group received only verbal feedback from the teacher., Results: Although the self-assessment of the students did not change significantly, assessors' ratings increased significantly for videotaped interviews at the second time., Conclusions: Feedback based on videotaped interviews is superior to the feedback given solely based on the observation of assessors.

Developing brain is much more sensitive to all kind of stressors than the developed brain. Early maternal deprivation causes some behavioural and physiological effects on rats. After the birth, there is no endocrinological response to stressors between post-natal 4 and 14th days, which is called stress-hyporesponsive period (SHRP) in rats. This hypo-responsiveness is time- and stressor-specific, as some more severe stressors have been shown to induce a stress response. The present study examined the effects of maternal deprivation on oxidative stress in the hippocampus, prefrontal cortex (PFC) and striatum regions of the brain both during and after SHRP of the infant rats. The results showed that maternal deprivation in SHRP increased antioxidant enzyme activities and reduced lipid peroxidation in infant rat brain. However, by the termination of SHRP, maternal deprivation reduced enzyme activities and increased lipid peroxidation. The results indicated that infant brain might be protected in SHRP from maternal deprivation-induced oxidative stress.

It is known that positive effects of regular aerobic exercise on cognitive functions in humans and also animals; but how to the effects of aerobic exercise in adolescent period is unknown. The present study examined the effects of regular aerobic exercise on spatial memory using the Morris water maze, cell density and apoptosis of hippocampus in adolescent rats. Twenty-two days of age male rats were run on a treadmill for 30 min/session at a speed of 8m/min and 0 degrees slope, five times a week for 8 weeks. The present study showed that exercise induced significant cognitive improvement throughout brain maturation in rats. The number of hippocampal CA1 and CA3 neurons, and gyrus dentatus neurons were significantly increased in the exercised rats. There was no significant difference of CA2 neuron density between exercise and control groups. There was no significantly differences in any groups according to the results of apoptosis that account of TUNEL positive cells. The present results suggest that regular moderate aerobic treadmill exercise benefit in cognitive functions. This result may derive from treadmill exercise-induced increase cell density without altering of apoptosis in the hippocampus and dentate gyrus of adolescent rats.

In a previous study we demonstrated that acute footshock stress increased glutathione peroxidase activity in the prefrontal cortex and striatum of adult male rats. Adolescents may respond differently to stress as life stressors may be greater than at other ages. The present study examined the effects of the acute footshock stress on superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) enzyme activities and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) levels in adolescent male and female rat brains. We demonstrated that acute footshock stress increased SOD activity in the prefrontal cortex, and increased GPx activity in the hippocampus in female rats. In males, acute footshock stress increased GPx activity in the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus. Footshock stress did not change TBARS levels. These results indicate a strong role of gender in the response of adolescent subjects to various aspects of stress.

Limitations and difficulties of clinical characteristics of mental disorders, manifesting in symptoms of body sphere, are described. The conceptions of body and subjective body experience, assuming that body sensations are involved in self-identification and self-ego formation and connected with cognitive, social and cultural aspects of subjective experience, are discussed. To evaluate phenomenological, biographical, psychodynamic, cognitive and socio-cultural context of body sensations appearance in somatoform mental disorders, the multi-axial model of subjective body experience description is suggested.

The article addresses the problem of subjective body experience in patients with somatoform mental disorders. Perspectives of multi-axial model of subjective body experience and methodical approaches to its descriptions are discussed. Different variants of body experience organization are described. Clinical peculiarities of somatoform mental disorders were closely connected with the complicated structure of body experience. Main processes involving body experience are those of self-identification structuring: determination of the borders of subjectivity, relations with objects, representation of self-ego. An analysis of structure of subjective body experience enabled to work out differentiated psychotherapeutic approaches to complex rehabilitation of patients with somatoform mental disorders.

The administration of methamphetamine to experimental animals results in damage to dopaminergic neurons. The hypothesis that methamphetamine-induced neurotoxicity is mediated by reactive oxygen species was evaluated. It was found that acute administration of methamphetamine (5 and 15 mg kg(-1)) resulted in production of oxidative stress as demonstrated by decreased glutathione and increased oxidized glutathione levels in the rat striatum and prefrontal cortex. These changes in glutathione and oxidized glutathione levels were dose-dependent in striatum but not in prefrontal cortex. In conclusion, the results of present study provide further evidence in support of the notion that oxidative stress may play an important role in the methamphetamine-induced neurotoxicity.

Surface relief and configuration of peripheral blood erythrocytes were studied under a scanning electron microscope in 42 patients with paranoid schizophrenia during the active phase and remission. Control group consisted of 30 mentally and somatically healthy donors. The count of functionally intact biconcave discocytes was appreciably (p < 0.001) decreased and the incidence of transitory, prehemolytical, and degenerative forms of erythrocytes increased in the patients. Morphological restructuring of the erythrocyte population was universal in the patients with different duration of the schizophrenic process.

To investigate the effect of blood perfusion difference on oxidant status, mice were trained by a 7-week running program. Two days after the last training session, mice were exercised for 60 minutes at the same training intensity. Changes in the concentration of thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS), as an index of lipid peroxidation, in intestine, kidney and muscle, were studied in trained mice immediately (0 h), 3 h and 24 h after the running exercise and in unexercised control group. The activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and xanthine oxidase (XO) were determined in these tissues. Tissue SOD activities were unaffected by the exercise. Muscle GPx activity increased after exercise (0 h and 3 h group, P < 0.01) and returned to control levels at 24 h, but there was not any significant difference in intestinal and renal tissues. Renal tissue XO activity could not be determined. There was not any significant difference among groups in intestinal tissue XO activity. The activity of XO was decreased only in skeletal muscle at 0 h (P < 0.05). TBARS levels of exercised groups were higher than control in muscle (P < 0.01). Intestinal TBARS levels decreased at 0 h (P < 0.05), than reached to control level. Renal TBARS levels of 0 h and 24 h group was higher than control (P < 0.01, P < 0.01 respectively). The results show that a long distance running exercise may cause lipid peroxidation damage in skeletal muscle and kidney.
