Metallic materials attracted much attention in the field of optoelectronics for several applications such as infrared radiation detection. In present study, electronic, optical and thermoelectric spectra of Sm and Ce co doped Bi2Te3 materials have been studied using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Electronic study of the studied material indicates metallic and good optical and thermoelectric properties. Optical spectra of the doped Bi2Te3 show that absorption lies in visible and near UV region of the radiation. Thus, it seems to have potential applications in optoelectronics. Thermoelectric properties favor the semiconducting nature with high Seebeck coefficient and dominant character of p-type charge carriers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CdS is a potential candidate for material in optoelectronic applications. The magnetic, electronic and optical properties of Ag-doped and Co -codoped CdS were calculated using full potential linear augmented plane wave (FP-LAPW) based on popular density - functional theory (DFT). The band gap and density of states for Ag -doped and Cocodoped CdS have been determined by using Tran Blaha modified Becke-Johnson (TBmBJ) potential. The optical and electronic properties of Ag-doped and Co-codoped CdS such as absorption coefficient, energy loss function, reflectivity, refractive index, electrical conductivity and extinction coefficient are presented. Gelatin is a derived, protein-based biopolymer used in nourishments to enhance consistency, strength, and flexibility. The aim of this research is to optimize the organic acid extraction of gelatin from fish skin. In this work, effect of parameters such as acid (based on its type) concentration (0.05-0.15 M), extraction temperature (40-60 °C), and types of acid (formic, acetic and propionic acids) on extraction yield of gelatin was examined at constant extraction time of 7 d and skin to acid mass ratio of 1:20. Collagenous material was separated from fish skin, and a basic protein, collagen, was hydrolyzed to gelatin, a derived protein. Response surface methodology (RSM) based Box-Wilson design was used for optimization and the optimization results revealed that the maximum gelatin extraction of 11.91% was achieved at 0.1 M formic acid and 52 °C. Thus, it would be concluded that the fish skin could be the potential feedstock for gelatin extraction.

A test model is developed in the present paper for studying the validity of using Rayleigh Hypothesis in elliptical-waveguide analysis. The results show that only under certain well-behaved conditions can numerical accuracies of better than plus or minus 0.05% be obtained and that unacceptable errors of more than plus or minus 2% may occur when an inappropriate set of input-parameter values is fed into the resultant software. Limits on the permissible ranges of values for these input parameters can be deduced from the empirical data generated by the test model.

A study on seminal proteins profile using 6-16% gradient SDS-PAGE electrophoresis was conducted in NARI Suwarna rams. The majority of seminal plasma proteins were observed to be less than 100 kDa. Among these 26 kDa were abundant followed by 68 kDa and 23 kDa proteins. Identification of these proteins will be useful in relating the semen quality and fertility. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

An increase in water demand for drinking, agriculture, and industries necessitates the treatment of water and wastewater. Among various conventional treatment techniques available, adsorption is found to be one of the most economical and feasible methods. Adsorbents from plant biomass are effective for the removal of organic and inorganic pollutants. Cassava has gained attention among researchers during the past decades due to its plentiful availability and resilient characteristics. Even though cassava contains cyanogenic glucosides as toxins, it is used in industries for development of various products. Cassava stem, rhizome, peel, and bagasse are industrial residues that are generated in abundance. The present review focusses on factors affecting adsorption using cassava residues, adsorbent preparation and activation methods, equilibrium, mass transfer, kinetics, and thermodynamic studies of adsorption.
