Abstract

In the realm of music, especially within the K-pop genre, songs serve as dynamic mediums for addressing social issues. This research focuses on the `song "Haze" by LUCY. The selection of this song is emphasized due to its rich meanings capable of representing life, especially regarding individual journey from childhood to adulthood, resonating with universal themes of resilience, self-discovery, and social challenges in its lyrics. Additionally, "Haze" serves as a primary message about readiness for adulthood. This study utilizes semiotics, drawing from Charles S. Peirce's method, to uncover layers of meaning within the song's lyrics. Findings reveal a profound journey marked by fear, growth, and identity exploration. Through semiotic analysis, the study illuminates how individuals navigate internal struggles, overcome obstacles, and foster resilience. The lyrics capture emotional complexities, emphasizing the significance of self-identity and interpersonal relationships in navigating life's trials. Ultimately, maturity is depicted as the embrace of authenticity and inner strength amidst uncertainty. Di ranah musik, khususnya dalam genre K-pop, lagu-lagu berfungsi sebagai media dinamis untuk mengatasi isu-isu sosial. Penelitian ini berfokus pada lagu "Haze" oleh LUCY. Pemilihan lagu ini dalam penelitian ditekankan karena lagu ini kaya akan makna yang mampu merepresentasikan kehidupan, terutama tentang penggambarannya pada perjalanan individu dari masa kanak-kanak menuju dewasa, yang beresonansi dengan tema-tema universal tentang ketahanan, penemuan diri, dan tantangan-tantangan sosial dalam liriknya. Selain itu, "Haze" dapat dijadikan sebuah pesan utama tentang kesiapan diri menuju kedewasaan. Penelitian ini menggunakan semiotika, mengambil metode dari Charles S. Peirce, untuk mengungkap lapisan lapisan makna dalam lirik lagu tersebut. Temuan menunjukkan perjalanan yang mendalam yang ditandai dengan ketakutan, pertumbuhan, dan eksplorasi identitas. Melalui analisis semiotik, penelitian ini menemukan bagaimana individu menghadapi perjuangan internal, mengatasi rintangan, dan membangun ketahanan. Lirik-lirik tersebut menangkap kompleksitas emosional, menekankan pentingnya identitas diri dan hubungan interpersonal dalam menghadapi ujian kehidupan. Abstract

My research in Co-Creative Media and Community Engagement on the land border of Ireland explores the process of applied artistic practice in a mutually beneficial relationship based on knowledge exchange between participants and researcher/facilitator. I have adopted and developed the practice of Digital Storytelling to explore individual and communal border experience in an attempt to remove professional interpretation and ventriloquism while empowering individuals to represent themselves in the process. This work is based on a constructivist hermeneutical approach, which values accounts of personal experience based on social actions and outcomes. The work builds on existing theoretical knowledge through an alternative form of knowledge generated within communities of interest. Using a mixed methods approach I have been able to establish a more comprehensive and complete picture which combines complimentary data from PAR, Field Work, Case Study, Focus Groups and Interviews. Participatory Action Research (PAR) ensures collaboration, power, ethics, knowledge and building theory, are central to the community engagement process. Through extensive community facilitation and process development I combined several narrative practices from Digital Storytelling, Life Story Method, Every Object tells a Story and Story Circle to facilitate the recovery of difficult and traumatic narratives enabling participants to rediscover their voice around complex and volatile experience. Working on the land border it is difficult to encounter anyone who has not experienced some form of trauma as witness, victim, survivor or perpetrator. The process was not about truth recovery or reconciliation but exploring the potentialfor engagement and participation and communication. The significance of merging traditional narrative practice with Digital Storytelling lies in the capacity for authentic individual self recovery, discovery, expression with the support of the community in the age of New Media. In a post-documentary age, Digital Stories function as performances of mediatised actuality.

6. Fragmented Self

Abstract

As an artist, my work reflects my own life experiences, allowing me to reinterpret and process difficult events in a new light. Creating art is a therapeutic process for me, enabling me to explore and understand my past and my own Self. In line with James Baldwin's views, I believe that the duty of an artist is to provide their audience with an opportunity to rediscover themselves; to help them explore their inner selves. In my experience, to achieve that goal, the first and most important hurdle the artist needs to cross is exploring themselves. In the process of answering questions about their own selves, they can touch many other souls. In Fragmented Self, I employ composited 3D animations of my own body parts juxtaposed over still and moving images. Each body part and piece in Fragmented Self is a metaphorical representation of a specific experience I have lived through. The resulting pieces are meditative, surreal, and abstracted spaces that speak to the complexities of life experiences. I believe each body holds messages from the past, and in Fragmented Self, I disembody and fragment my own body to study and explore my own Self. Drawing inspiration from Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass in which he proclaims, "I contain multitudes", I see my Self as a composite of various selves shaped by different life experiences coming together to form one Self. I believe that I am a constantly evolving individual, influencing my everyday encounters and choices. As in the Japanese tradition of Kintsugi, in Fragmented Self, I trace the gold lined cracks that unite my multitudinous selves into one in hopes of answering the question "What makes me who I am today?"

Ruskin Bond’s literary works are often celebrated for its simplicity and timeless charm worldwide. Among his diverse oeuvre, A Season of Ghosts is a compelling narrative, delving into the journey between innocence and experience. This present research paper is an exploration of the evolving themes of innocence and experience within the context of Bond’s A Season of Ghosts. Through a multidimensional approach, the study focuses on a comprehensive analysis of characters, plot, and narrative techniques, employed in Ruskin Bond’s A Season of Ghosts. Hereto, it seeks to explore the transformation of characters and how they navigate the shifting terrain between innocence and experience, highlighting the nuances of their personal growth. Besides, this paper investigates the influence of external forces on characters’ perceptions of innocence and experience from socio-cultural and historical perspectives. Thus, Bond’s A Season of Ghosts is significant for a close reading with its thematic exploration in order to throw light on how it reflects not only the maturation of the characters but also the multifaceted themes of loss, nostalgia, and the passage of time. Moreover, the study adds to a nuanced understanding of Ruskin Bond’s fascinating way of storytelling as well as his potential to navigate the delicate balance between innocence and experience in his literary writings.&nbsp

8. Destination USA : William Least Heat-Moon and American travel writing

Abstract

Destination USA examines the works of the travel writer William Least Heat-Moon and his place ·in the tradition of American travel writing. The study begins with an overview of the current scholarship and trends within contemporary American travel writing and then moves on to limit and to define its scope. Next an outline and an in-depth explanation of the structure and thematics of such works is presented. Contemporary American travel writing has two dominant structures: the on-the~road motif and the intimate journey Of~ place. Woven into these two structures are three main themes common to both. The first theme focuses on the role of selfdiscovery in travel writing. The second theme highlights the role of travel writing in discovering hidden or marginalised American voices. The third theme centres around travel writing's use as a warning about or an assessment of the current American situation. Next a historical overview of the roots of American travel writing is undertaken which highlights the role it has played in the foundation of the country as well as providing the basis for those structures and themes outlined above. From there the dissertation moves onto an analysis of the works of William Least Heat-Moon: Blue Highways (1982), PrairyErth (1991) and River-Horse (1999). Heat-Moan's works provide an effective focal point for the understanding of contemporary American travel writing as a whole. They are forward looking and experimental while retaining a continuity with the tradition of American travel writing. An in-depth analysis of his trilogy on the American landscape is supported by previously unpublished interviews by the author. His works are then examined to uncover how they point to travel writing's elision with naturalist prose and work together to form a multifaceted vision of America. !

[ES] En la actualidad, el mundo conectado está permitiendo desarrollar soluciones que ofrecen servicios avanzados que proporcionan funcionalidades cada vez más inteligentes. Este mundo se constituye por entornos heterogéneos y dinámicos con muchos dispositivos interactuando, apareciendo y desapareciendo dinámicamente, y colaborando para ofrecer estas funciones avanzadas. Un dominio con mucho potencial es el de las viviendas, en dónde las capacidades de introducir inteligencia pueden aportar beneficios sustanciales, ofreciendo mejoras significativas en diferentes aspectos de cara a sus usuarios. Un ejemplo es la necesidad actual de diseñar y construir sistemas eficientes energéticamente. En este TFG se pretende abordar este problema de la eficiencia energética en un hogar inteligente a través de la monitorización del consumo energético de diferentes dispositivos. El proyecto se centrará en abordar este problema de la dinamicidad, entendida como la capacidad que existe en una vivienda de que aparezcan y desaparezcan dispositivos de consumo (móviles, nuevos electrodomésticos, dispositivos que se reemplazan, etc.). El objetivo del TFG es doble: por un lado, establecer una solución basada en la IoT que permita tanto la monitorización como la regulación de este consumo energético, utilizando ’smart-meters’ como elementos principales de la solución; por otro lado, se diseñará una plataforma donde los diferentes participantes/dispositivos (elementos de consumo y medidores de consumo) puedan aparecer y desaparecer dinámicamente. The project will revolve around the dynamicity problem, understood as the ability existent in a house to have power consuming devices appear and disappear (mobile phones, home appliances, replaced devices, etc.) The objective of this project is double, one one side, to establish an IoT based solution which allows both the monitoring and the regulation of the electric consumption on the household using smart-meters and the main elements of the solution. On the other hand, we will design a platform where the various participants/devices (consumption devices and consumption meters) can appear and disappear dynamically. Abstract

Abstract: Infants exploit the perception that others are ‘like me’ to bootstrap social cognition (). This paper demonstrates how the above theory can be instantiated in a social robot that uses itself as a model to recognize structural similarities with other robots; this thereby enables the student to distinguish between appropriate and inappropriate teachers. This is accomplished by the student robot first performing self-discovery, a phase in which it uses actuation–perception relationships to infer its own structure. Second, the student models a candidate teacher using a vision-based active learning approach to create an approximate physical simulation of the teacher. Third, the student determines that the teacher is structurally similar (but not necessarily visually similar) to itself if it can find a neural controller that allows its self model (created in the first phase) to reproduce the perceived motion of the teacher model (created in the second phase). Fourth, the student uses the neural controller (created in the third phase) to move, resulting in imitation of the teacher. Results with a physical student robot and two physical robot teachers demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach. The generalizability of the proposed model allows it to be used over variations in the demonstrator: The student robot would still be able to imitate teachers of different sizes and at different distances from itself, as well as different positions in its field of view, because change in the interrelations of the teacher’s body parts are used for imitation, rather than absolute geometric properties. Maria Campbell is a Metis author, playwright, filmmaker and broadcaster. She is also working as a volunteer, activist and advocate for Aboriginal rights and the women rights. She is best known for her autobiography and memoir Halfbreeds which voice out against the trash nature of the white settlers who caused hindrances to the innocent indigenous people of Canada. The quest for equality and dignity remains a dream in the hearts of aboriginal people. This book is the journey of the self discovery of the author herself.  The protagonist and the narrator Maria Campbell is the representation of Halfbreeds who did not have their own place in the Canadian society. This article presents Halfbreeds’ frustrated mindset and their thirst for freedom. It also expresses the pitiable conditions of Halfbreed women socially and economically. The Halfbreed women’s quest for equal rights and the oppression of the white and men is the major theme spoken in this article.&nbsp

Abstract

Birdman and Other Essays and Stories is a collection of lyric, memoir and personal essays along with short autobiographical fiction that centers around themes of losing a great love, an exploration of suicide, having supernatural or cosmic energy voices and a meditation on the Buddhist principle of wholesome behavior. One essay compares the author, through film critique, to the late President Nixon, following a break up with the central character of the thesis who is the Birdman. Several essays are told in fragmented form, like the braided essay, and several in a more traditional narrative form. The short autobiographical fiction represents two different episodes of the author’s life: from being an actress in Chicago and working in a racially stratified pizza restaurant, to wrestling with a boyfriend with a mental disorder. The recurrent characters are most often ex-lovers and boyfriends, like Kent, CJ, Freddie and especially Tronzo. There are also short essays about almost drowning and learning to swim as a child and about a trash transformation artist in New York City. Each essay and story stands on its own but they are connected by character and circumstance to form a matrix of meaning.

Abstract

Con el siguiente trabajo se busco desarrollar un manual de laboratorio empleando materiales cotidianos, enfocado en guiar lo estudiantes hacia el descubrimiento de los conceptos básicos de la física impartida en el grado décimo, para lograr lo anterior se trabajo los temas divididos en módulos los cuales cuenta con: el objetivo buscado al trabajar cada modulo, la lista de materiales necesarios para desarrollarlo, y una sección denominada procedimiento en la cual se indica paso a paso como desarrollar las practicas, además de contar con una serie de preguntas que buscan centrar la atención del estudiante hacia el descubrimiento y asimilación del concepto trabajado. En base a una prueba preliminar se encontró que el material elaborado contribuye al proceso de aprendizaje brindando al docente de física una alternativa para desarrollar prácticas experimentales en instituciones educativas que no cuentan con infraestructura y equipos para tal fin / Abstract: With this job, we tried to develop a laboratory manual using everyday materials, focused it on guiding the students towards discovering about the basic concepts of physics taught on grade ten, the topics were divided into modules to achieve this work, which count with: the objective worked to each module, the list of materials needed to develop it, and a section called procedure, which shows step by step how to develop practices, and it also count with some questions which pretend to focus the students attention toward the assimilation of the concept worked before. Based on a preliminary test was found that the material produced contributes to the learning process by providing to the physics teacher an alternative in order to develop experimental practices in educational institutions whose do not have the infrastructure and equipment for this purpose Maestría

Das vorliegende Buch beinhaltet die Sicht des Soziologen Jean-Claude KAUFMANN auf den vielgestaltigen Begriff Identität und fasst im Wesentlichen die französischsprachige Debatte um das Konstrukt zusammen. KAUFMANN unternimmt den Versuch, eine Theorie der Identität zu entwerfen. Dabei möchte er zum einen an die Klassiker – vor allem FREUD, MEAD und ERISKON und deren Begriffsbestimmung – anknüpfen und zum anderen die Ergebnisse seiner empirischen Studien zum Paarverhalten, zum Alltags- und Familienleben sowie zum Beziehungsglück zum Ausgangspunkt nehmen, um das Individuum in der Gegenwart zu verorten. Abstract

The speaker in this collection is a continually evolving entity which is both aware of, connected to, and separate from the previous versions of themselves. In the first section, the speaker still needs to explore and spends a great deal of time wondering about what they are. The speaker eventually realizes that they are not the same as the members of their family, or possibly not even humanity as a whole. By the second section, the speaker has become aware of themselves, but still feels the need to explain or describe themselves to the reader, and sometimes even to the previous versions of themselves referred to as “she” and “you,” with “she” being the oldest or original version of the speaker. The speaker does not have much compassion for the lack of enlightenment in their previous counterparts in this section, but that begins to change by the third and final section. In the last section, the speaker has become fully aware of themselves and has developed a more mature and confident voice. Their wondering has disappeared, as has any lingering bitterness toward their previous selves. Instead, the speaker, while still viewing themselves as separate from the “she” and the “you,” speaks more directly to them in a more tender and understanding tone, as the speaker knows what it is they will have or have gone through to become the “I.” The collection as a whole deals with themes of birth, metamorphosis, the self, and what it means to be entirely other, however one might interpret the idea of otherness.
