Neutralizing antibody responses are attenuated in many solid organ transplant recipients (SOTRs) despite SARS-CoV-2 vaccination. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) with the monoclonal antibody combination Tixagevimab and Cilgavimab (T+C) might augment immunoprotection, yet activity against Omicron sublineages in vaccinated SOTRs is unknown. Vaccinated SOTRs who received 300+300mg T+C (either single dose or two 150+150mg doses) within a prospective observational cohort submitted pre- and post-injection samples between 1/10/2022-4/4/2022. Binding antibody (anti-receptor binding domain [RBD], Roche) and surrogate neutralization (%ACE2 inhibition; ≥20% connoting neutralizing inhibition, Meso Scale Discovery) were measured against variants including Omicron sublineages BA.1 and BA.2. In this paper, I discuss the Ontario College of Teachers’ most recent versions of the Standards of Practice with William Hare’s counsel on being open-minded regarding open-mindedness in mind. Specifically, I insist that the use of the Standards of Practice as guidelines for working through cases of professional and ethical issues requires yet another rule to indicate when to deviate from this or that standard. In this way, open-mindedness consists of developing and following rules to indicate when and where specific standards should be bypassed. These rules vary, however, one source of these can be found in what Barbara Herman has called, “Rules of Moral Salience”—rules that guide us in our day-to-day moral decision-making and that we draw on when called upon to make moral-ethical judgments. What this means for various ethics (ethics of care; Kantian-type ethics, psychological and/or developmental accounts of ethics) is also broached.

Introduction Despite the rich history and progression of mental health assets and their utilization within the Marine Corps, the implementation of these assets has been varied and inconsistent. This article strives to take the lessons learned from the past and improve on them. The goal is to develop a consistent program focused on resiliency and retention, and propose an integrated organized structure across all the Marine Expeditionary Forces (MEF). Means and Methods Review of the literature, current practices, and future recommendations. Results This article demonstrates that continuing to utilize mental health resources at the Regimental level with a focus on community mental health principles rather than the medical model allows for proximity to members and leadership of their primary command, immediate access to them as their Special Staff Officer, the ability to set the expectation of recovery, resiliency, and readiness, and the capability to implement simple principles of nonmedical recuperation and advisement. Conclusions Improving on the organizational structure of mental health in the Marine Corps by placing a mental health Special Staff Officer at the MEF level and focusing on the principles of community mental health will shift the focus back to the primary and secondary prevention care efforts across all levels of the Marine Corps and provide clinical and leadership oversight as it relates to the philosophy, role, and implementation of organic mental health Officers.

Tree stem methane emissions are gaining rapid research momentum, with about one-third of all literature in this field published in 2021 alone. Long term and seasonal studies are currently rare, limiting our ability to constrain spatial and seasonal emissions variability, and to resolve the tree stem contribution to the total wetland methane flux i.e. soil, water and trees. Here we present preliminary methane flux data from a lowland Melaleuca quinquenervia forest. We measured emissions in situ along a ~3 m amplitude topo-gradient, encompassing forest in lower, transitional and upper elevation zones. Eight (ongoing) field campaigns at monthly intervals, captured flooded to dry to re-flooded site conditions. We measured the stem fluxes from 30 trees at four stem heights, along with 30 adjacent soil and water CH4 fluxes. Ancillary parameters such as pore water (CH4, DO%, pH, temp, redox, EC), water table depth, and soil moisture (VWC %) were also measured. Tree stem fluxes ranged several orders of magnitude between hydrological seasons and topo-gradient zones (ranging from negligible to 17, 426 mmol ha-1 d-1). Soil fluxes were similar in amplitude and shifted from maximal CH4 emissions during the wet conditions, to CH4 uptake in dry locations. The importance of tree stem flux to the net ecosystem flux (NEF) differed between campaigns and hydrological zones, but were most substantial during flooded conditions and ranged from 36-75% of the NEF in the lower and transitional zones during peak emissions respectively. In the upper zone, the tree stem emissions offset the soil sink capacity by ~50% when the water table was closest to the soil surface. This study shows the importance of quantifying lowland tree stem CH4 emissions to the total wetland flux. This data provides important baseline readings for southern hemisphere and Australian wetland forests, that generally experience dynamic rainfall and soil redox oscillations between flooding and droughts.

Increased frequency and intensity of drought, wildfires and flooding due to climate change has major implications for river water quality, yet there are limited high-temporal resolution data capturing the combined transient impacts of these extreme events at large catchment scales. We present flow-stratified water quality data from a large coastal catchment (Macleay River, Australia) spanning severe drought and extensive fires followed by flooding. In this chapter, the author explores a moral dilemma, demonstrating how it is central to parent-child relations in rural China. Taking the mountain village of Nishui in Anhui as his example, he examines how from a young age the ordinary movements of children around the spaces of the village become morally inflected and how the children learn that movements in certain directions are more desirable than others. The dilemma faced by those trying to be good children was that what was required of them by their parents was contradictory, both pushing them away and pulling them back. In seeking to find resolutions to the dilemma produced by conflicting filial paths, the children of Nishui can be understood to be conducting an ordinary ethics of movement. The ethical decisions they make and hence the paths they take leave their mark on the moral geography of the village, and in doing so they may shape the paths of those that follow.

High rates of unemployment among people with disability are long-standing and persistent problems worldwide. For public policy, estimates of prevalence and population profiles are required for designing support schemes such as Australia&rsquo, s National Disability Insurance Scheme, for monitoring implementation of the United Nations Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and for monitoring service access, participation, and equity for people with disability in mainstream systems including employment. In the public sector, creating a succinct identifier for disability in administrative systems is a key challenge for public policy design and monitoring. This requires concise methods of identifying people with disability within systems, producing data comparable with population data to gauge accessibility and equity. We aimed to create disability-related questions of value to the purposes of an Australian state and contribute to literature on parsimonious and respectful disability identification for wider application. The research, completed in 2017, involved mapping and identification of key disability concepts for inclusion in new questions, focus groups to refine wording of new questions, and online surveys of employees evaluating two potential new question sets on the topic of disability and environment. Recommendations for new disability-related questions and possible new data collection processes are being considered and used by the leading state authority.

The proposed X-ray spatial light modulator (SLM) concept is based on the difference of X-ray scattering from amorphous and crystalline regions of phase change materials (PCMs) such as Ge2Sb2Te5 (GST). In our X-ray SLM design, the “on” and “off” states correspond to a patterned and homogeneous state of a GST thin film, respectively. The patterned state is obtained by exposing the homogeneous film to laser pulses. In this paper, we present patterning results in GST thin films characterized by microwave impedance microscopy and X-ray small-angle scattering at the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource.
