The self-aggregation of tetracationic porphyrin meso-tetrakis(N-methylpyridinium-4-yl)porphinatocopper(II) (CuT4) onto a chiral polymeric matrix (polyglutamic acid, PG) as well as mixtures of tetracationic (CuT4) and tetraanionic, meso-tetrakisporphine(H4TPPS), porphyrins onto the same PG matrix as a funtion of Ph, temperature ionic strength, and rectant concentration is investigated.

A study was conducted to investigate the emission properties of high quality monolithic microcavity with an embedded ultrathin organic tetrakis(4-methoxyphenyl)porphyrin layer. Findings show a well-defined polarized doublet at detection angles larger than 15 degrees.

Abstract

Sodium intercalated manganese thiophosphate [Na.sub.0.62][Mn.sub.0.69]P[S.sub.3] powders are prepared by a two-step ion-exchange process and dielectric measurements are performed as a function of both temperature and frequency by using the autobalancing bridge method. The nature of these hopping charge carriers is formulated based on the ion-exchange intercalation process and the comparison with the dielectric spectra.

Abstract

The synthesis and spectroscopic properties of polycrystalline powders of [Na.sub.2x][Mn.sub.1-x]P[S.sub.3] obtained from layered MnP[S.sub.3] material by successive ion-exchange intercalation of potassium and sodium ions are described. The results have verified the presence of [Na.sup.+] in [Na.sub.0.62][Mn.sub.0.69]P[S.sub.3] and their weak link that allow exchange with other guest species.

Abstract

The [Cs.sub.2x][Mn.sub.1-x]P[S.sub.3] compound is prepared by the cesium ion-exchange intercalation reaction on MnP[S.sub.3] and is characterized by various spectroscopic methods. The studies have shown that the [Cs.sup.+] intercalation process in MnP[S.sub.3] is complete and has led to the creation of intercalated vacancies.

Abstract

Lithium intercalate thin films was obtained from MnPS(sub 3) starting material and characterized by the x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy technique and the regions of Mn 2p and 3p, P and S 2p, and Li 1s core levels was investigated. The analysis of the spectra has revealed the lack of nonequivalent atoms of Mn, P, S, and Li and the presence of shake-up-type satellites at the Mn 2p and 3p core levels suggest that Li (sub 2xMn(sub 1-x)PS(sub 3) is a large gap insulating Mn compound analogously to the parent MnPS(sub 3).

19. Mesoscopic Structure of meso-Tetrakis(4-sulfonatophenyl)porphine J-Aggregates

Abstract

Samples containing J-aggregates formed by the porphyrin meso-tetrakis(4-sulfonatophenyl)porphine (H2TPPS44-) were studied by a combination of elastic (ELS) and dynamic (DLS) light scattering techniques. Aggregation was fostered by lowering the pH and increasing the ionic strength (I; selected experimental conditions:  (i) pH = 0.7; (ii) pH = 2.8, I = 0.5 M; (iii) pH = 0.7, I = 2 M). The ELS data suggest the presence of self-similar structures, whose fractal dimension are df = 1.7, 2.13, and 2.09 (for case i, ii, and iii, respectively). The DLS experiments indicate the presence of large (1−1.5 μm)-, medium (100−200 nm)-, and small (3−6 nm)-sized aggregates. An aggregation number (N) ranging between 6 and 32 was calculated for the smaller components, whereas a range of 105 to 106 was found in the case of the large clusters. The aggregation kinetics were followed by the resonance light scattering technique. The average aggregation time and the growth models, as derived from the ELS experiments, are in agreement with the Derjaguin−Landau−Verwey−Overbeek (DLVO) theory for aggregation of colloidal particles. The experimental findings point out the different ability of H+ and Na+ in driving the final mesoscopic structure.
