We present the most comprehensive and deepest X-ray study to date of the properties of the richest Wolf-Rayet (WR) population observed in a single stellar cluster, Westerlund 1 (Wd1). This work is based on 36 Chandra observations obtained from the "Extended Westerlund 1 and 2 Open Clusters Survey" (EWOCS) project, plus 8 archival Chandra observations. The overall exposure depth (~1.1 Ms) and baseline of the EWOCS observations extending over more than one year enable us to perform a detailed photometric, colour, and spectral analysis, as well as to search for short- and long-term periodicity. In X-rays, we detect 20 out of the 24 known Wolf-Rayet stars in Wd1 down to an observed luminosity of ~7$\times10^{29}$erg s$^{-1}$ (assuming a distance of 4.23 kpc to Wd1), with 8 WR stars being detected in X-rays for the first time. Nine stars show clear evidence of variability over the year-long baseline, with clear signs of periodicity. The X-ray colours and spectral analysis reveal that the vast majority of the WR stars are hard X-ray sources (kT$\geq$2.0keV). The Fe XXV emission line at ~6.7 keV, which commonly originates from the wind-wind collision zone in binary systems, is detected for the first time in the spectra of 17 WR stars in Wd1. In addition the ~6.4 keV fluorescent line is observed in the spectra of three stars, indicating that dense cold material coexists with the hot gas in these systems. Overall, our X-ray results alone suggest a very high binary fraction ($\geq$80%) for the WR star population in Wd1. When combining our results with properties of the WR population from other wavelengths, we estimate a binary fraction of $\geq$92%, which could even reach unity. A robust quantum light source operating upon electrical injection at ambient conditions is desirable for practical implementation of quantum technologies, such as quantum key distribution or metrology. Color centers in diamond are promising candidates as they are photostable emitters at room and elevated temperatures. The possibility of their electrical excitation has already been demonstrated within p-i-n diodes. However, this requires the growth of complex diamond structures. In contrast to these conventional approaches, we demonstrate the emission of color centers under electrical pumping in a novel Schottky diode configuration based on hydrogen passivated n-type diamond, which holds promise for integrated single-photon emitting devices based on color centers in diamond., Comment: 16 pages, 9 figures

One of the frontiers of nanotechnology is advancing beyond the periodic self-assembly of materials. Icosahedral quasicrystals, aperiodic in all directions, represent one of the most challenging targets that have yet to be experimentally realized at the colloidal scale. Previous attempts have required meticulous human-designed building blocks and often resulted in interactions beyond current experimental capabilities. In this work, we introduce a framework for generating experimentally accessible designs that self-assemble into quasicrystalline arrangements. We present a design for icosahedral DNA-origami building blocks and demonstrate, through molecular simulations, their successful assembly into the target quasicrystalline structure. Our results highlight the feasibility of using automated design protocols to achieve complex quasicrystalline patterns, paving the way for new applications in material science and nanotechnology.

Experimental measurements of plasma and neutral profiles across the pedestal are used in conjunction with 2D edge modeling to examine pedestal stiffness in Alcator C-Mod H-mode plasmas. Experiments on Alcator C-Mod observed pedestal degradation and loss in confinement below a critical value of net power crossing the separatrix, $P_\mathrm{net} = P_\mathrm{net}^\mathrm{crit} \approx 2.3$ MW. New analysis of ionization and particle flux profiles reveal saturation of the pedestal electron density, $n_{e}^\mathrm{ped}$ despite continuous increases in ionization throughout the pedestal, inversely related to $P_\mathrm{net}$. A limit to the pedestal $\nabla n_{e}$ emerges as the particle flux, $\Gamma_{D}$ continues to grow, implying increases in the effective particle diffusivity, $D_\mathrm{eff}$. This is well-correlated with the separatrix collisionality, $\nu^{*}_\mathrm{sep}$ and a turbulence control parameter, $\alpha_{t}$, implying a possible transition in type of turbulence. The transition is well correlated with the experimentally observed value of $P_\mathrm{net}^\mathrm{crit}$. SOLPS-ITER modeling is performed for select discharges from the power scan, constrained with experimental electron and neutral densities, measured at the outer midplane. The modeling confirms general growth in $D_\mathrm{eff}$, consistent with experimental findings, and additionally suggests even larger growth in $\chi_{e}$ at the same $P_\mathrm{net}^\mathrm{crit}$.

In the present work, with the intent of exploring the out-of-equilibrium polymerization of active patchy particles in linear chains, we study a suspension of active bivalent Brownian particles (ABBPs). At all studied temperatures and densities, ABBPs self-assemble in aggregating chains, as opposed to the uniformly space-distributed chains observed in the corresponding passive systems. The main effect of activity, other than inducing chain aggregation, is to reduce the chain length and favor alignment of the propulsion vectors in the bonding process. At low activities, attraction dominates over activity in the bonding process, leading self-assembly to occur randomly regardless of the particle orientations.Interestingly, we find that at the lowest temperature, as density increases, chains aggregate forming a novel state: MISP, i.e., Motility-Induced Spirals, where spirals are characterised by a finite angular velocity. On the contrary, at the highest temperature, density and activity, chains aggregate forming a different novel state (a spinning crystalline cluster) characterized by a compact and hexagonal ordered structure, both translating and rotating. The rotation arises from an effective torque generated by the presence of competing domains where particles self-propel in the same direction.

MHD kink instability can trigger the fragmentation of a twisted magnetic flux tube into small-scale current sheets that dissipate as aperiodic impulsive heating events. This instability propagates as an avalanche to nearby flux tubes and leads to a nanoflare storm. Our previous work was devoted to related 3D MHD numerical modeling with a stratified and realistic atmosphere. This work addresses predictions for the EUV imaging spectroscopy of such structure and evolution of a loop, with an average temperature of 2.5 MK in the solar corona. We set a particular focus on the forthcoming MUSE mission. From the output of the numerical simulations, we synthesized the intensities, Doppler shifts, and non-thermal line broadening in 3 EUV spectral lines in the MUSE passbands: Fe IX 171A, Fe XV 284 A, and Fe XIX 108 A, at 1 MK, 2 MK, and 10 MK, respectively, according to the MUSE expected pixel size, temporal resolution, and temperature response functions. We provide maps showing different view angles and realistic spectra. Finally, we discuss the relevant evolutionary processes from the perspective of possible observations. We find that the MUSE observations might be able to detect the fine structure determined by tube fragmentation. In particular, the Fe IX line is mostly emitted at the loop footpoints, where we track the motions that drive the magnetic stressing and detect the upward motion of evaporating plasma from the chromosphere. In Fe XV, we see the bulk of the loop with increasing intensity. The Fe XIX line is very faint within the chosen simulation parameters; thus, any transient brightening around the loop apex may possibly be emphasized by the folding of sheet-like structure. In conclusion, we show that coronal loop observations with MUSE can pinpoint some crucial features of MHD-modeled ignition processes, such as the related dynamics, helping to identify the heating processes.

This paper presents the specification, design, and development of the Visible Camera (VIS) on the ESA Euclid mission. VIS is a large optical-band imager with a field of view of 0.54 deg^2 sampled at 0.1" with an array of 609 Megapixels and spatial resolution of 0.18". It will be used to survey approximately 14,000 deg^2 of extragalactic sky to measure the distortion of galaxies in the redshift range z=0.1-1.5 resulting from weak gravitational lensing, one of the two principal cosmology probes of Euclid. With photometric redshifts, the distribution of dark matter can be mapped in three dimensions, and, from how this has changed with look-back time, the nature of dark energy and theories of gravity can be constrained. The entire VIS focal plane will be transmitted to provide the largest images of the Universe from space to date, reaching m_AB>24.5 with S/N >10 in a single broad I_E~(r+i+z) band over a six year survey. The particularly challenging aspects of the instrument are the control and calibration of observational biases, which lead to stringent performance requirements and calibration regimes. With its combination of spatial resolution, calibration knowledge, depth, and area covering most of the extra-Galactic sky, VIS will also provide a legacy data set for many other fields. This paper discusses the rationale behind the VIS concept and describes the instrument design and development before reporting the pre-launch performance derived from ground calibrations and brief results from the in-orbit commissioning. VIS should reach fainter than m_AB=25 with S/N>10 for galaxies of full-width half-maximum of 0.3" in a 1.3" diameter aperture over the Wide Survey, and m_AB>26.4 for a Deep Survey that will cover more than 50 deg^2. In recent years, the possibility of algorithmically preparing ultra-stable glasses (UG), i.e., states that lie very deep in the potential energy landscape, has considerably expanded our understanding of the glassy state. In this work, we report on a new protocol for ultrastable glass preparation that iteratively modifies the particle diameters to reduce local virial stress fluctuations. We apply the algorithm to an additive Lennard-Jones mixture and show that, compared to the states obtained via thermal annealing, virial homogenized glasses (VHG) are characterized by a considerable increase in both kinetic stability and the number of locally favored structures (icosahedra). We also consider the melting dynamics during heating ramps and show that it occurs via an accumulation of localized events. Our results highlight the connection between the thermodynamic and mechanical stability of ultra-stable glassy states.

A bit catastrophe, loosely defined, is when a change in just one character of a string causes a significant change in the size of the compressed string. We study this phenomenon for the Burrows-Wheeler Transform (BWT), a string transform at the heart of several of the most popular compressors and aligners today. The parameter determining the size of the compressed data is the number of equal-letter runs of the BWT, commonly denoted $r$. We exhibit infinite families of strings in which insertion, deletion, resp. substitution of one character increases $r$ from constant to $\Theta(\log n)$, where $n$ is the length of the string. These strings can be interpreted both as examples for an increase by a multiplicative or an additive $\Theta(\log n)$-factor. As regards multiplicative factor, they attain the upper bound given by Akagi, Funakoshi, and Inenaga [Inf & Comput. 2023] of $O(\log n \log r)$, since here $r=O(1)$. We then give examples of strings in which insertion, deletion, resp. substitution of a character increases $r$ by a $\Theta(\sqrt{n})$ additive factor. Detecting and measuring repetitiveness of strings is a problem that has been extensively studied in data compression and text indexing. However, when the data are structured in a non-linear way, like in the context of two-dimensional strings, inherent redundancy offers a rich source for compression, yet systematic studies on repetitiveness measures are still lacking. In the paper we introduce extensions of repetitiveness measures to general two-dimensional strings. In particular, we propose a new extension of the measures $\delta$ and $\gamma$, diverging from previous square based definitions proposed in [Carfagna and Manzini, SPIRE 2023]. We further consider generalizations of macro schemes and straight line programs for the 2D setting and show that, in contrast to what happens on strings, 2D macro schemes and 2D SLPs can be both asymptotically smaller than $\delta$ and $\gamma$. The results of the paper can be easily extended to $d$-dimensional strings with $d > 2$.

Studies of water thermodynamics have long been tied to the identification of two distinct families of local structures, whose competition could explain the origin of the many thermodynamic anomalies and of the hypothesized liquid-liquid critical point in water. Despite the many successes and insights gained, the structural indicators proposed throughout the years were not able to unequivocally identify these two families over a wide range of conditions. We show that a recently introduced indicator, $\Psi$, which exploits information on the HB network connectivity, can reliably identify these two distinct local environments over a wide range of thermodynamic conditions (188 to 300 K and 0 to 13 kbar), and that close to the liquid-liquid critical point the spatial correlations of density fluctuations are identical to those of the $\Psi$ indicator. The presence of a second critical point in water has been a topic of intense investigation for the last few decades. The molecular origins underlying this phenomenon are typically rationalized in terms of the competition between local high-density (HD) and low-density (LD) structures. Their identification often require designing parameters that are subject to human intervention. Herein, we use unsupervised learning to discover structures in atomistic simulations of water close to the Liquid-Liquid Critical point (LLCP). Encoding the information of the environment using local descriptors, we do not find evidence for two distinct thermodynamic structures. In contrast, when we deploy non-local descriptors that probe instead heterogeneities on the nanometer length scale, this leads to the emergence of LD and HD domains rationalizing the microscopic origins of the density fluctuations close to criticality.

Context. With a mass exceeding several 10^4 solar masses and a rich and dense population of massive stars, supermassive young star clusters represent the most massive star-forming environment that is dominated by the feedback from massive stars and gravitational interactions among stars. Aims. In this paper we present the "Extended Westerlund 1 and 2 Open Clusters Survey" (EWOCS) project, which aims to investigate the influence of the starburst environment on the formation of stars and planets, and on the evolution of both low and high mass stars. The primary targets of this project are Westerlund 1 and 2, the closest supermassive star clusters to the Sun. Methods. The project is based primarily on recent observations conducted with the Chandra and JWST observatories. Specifically, the Chandra survey of Westerlund 1 consists of 36 new ACIS-I observations, nearly co-pointed, for a total exposure time of 1 Msec. Additionally, we included 8 archival Chandra/ACIS-S observations. This paper presents the resulting catalog of X-ray sources within and around Westerlund 1. Sources were detected by combining various existing methods, and photon extraction and source validation were carried out using the ACIS-Extract software. Results. The EWOCS X-ray catalog comprises 5963 validated sources out of the 9420 initially provided to ACIS-Extract, reaching a photon flux threshold of approximately 2x10^-8 photons/cm^2/s. The X-ray sources exhibit a highly concentrated spatial distribution, with 1075 sources located within the central 1 arcminute. We have successfully detected X-ray emissions from 126 out of the 166 known massive stars of the cluster, and we have collected over 71000 photons from the magnetar CXO J164710.20-455217, Comment: The paper has been accepted for publication by Astronomy and Astrophysics

We outline some of the highlights of the scientific case for the advancement of stellar high energy physics using the Line Emission Mapper X-ray Probe ({\it LEM}). The key to advancements with LEM lie in its large effective area -- up to 100 times that of the {\it Chandra} MEG -- and 1~eV spectral resolution. The large effective area opens up for the first time the ability to study time-dependent phenomena on their natural timescales at high resolution, such as flares and coronal mass ejections, and also opens the sky to much fainter targets than available to {\it Chandra} or {\it XMM-Newton}., Comment: A Line Emission Mapper X-ray Probe White Paper

In recent years, negative triangularity (NT) has emerged as a potential high-confinement L-mode reactor solution. In this work, detachment is investigated using core density ramps in lower single null Ohmic L-mode plasmas across a wide range of upper, lower, and average triangularity (the mean of upper and lower triangularity: $\delta$) in the TCV tokamak. It is universally found that detachment is more difficult to access for NT shaping. The outer divertor leg of discharges with $\delta\approx -0.3$ could not be cooled to below $5~\mathrm{eV}$ through core density ramps alone. The behavior of the upstream plasma and geometrical divertor effects (e.g. a reduced connection length with negative lower triangularity) do not fully explain the challenges in detaching NT plasmas. Langmuir probe measurements of the target heat flux widths ($\lambda_q$) were constant to within 30% across an upper triangularity scan, while the spreading factor $S$ was lower by up to 50% for NT, indicating a generally lower integral Scrape-Off Layer width, $\lambda_{int}$. The line-averaged core density was typically higher for NT discharges for a given fuelling rate, possibly linked to higher particle confinement in NT. Conversely, the divertor neutral pressure and integrated particle fluxes to the targets were typically lower for the same line-averaged density, indicating that NT configurations may be closer to the sheath-limited regime than their PT counterparts, which may explain why NT is more challenging to detach.

Sophisticated statistical mechanics approaches and human intuition have demonstrated the possibility to self-assemble complex lattices or finite size constructs, but have mostly only been successful in silico. The proposed strategies quite often fail in experiment due to unpredicted traps associated to kinetic slowing down (gelation, glass transition), as well as to competing ordered structures. An additional challenge that theoretical predictions face is the difficulty to encode the desired inter-particle interaction potential with the currently available library of nano- and micron-sized particles. To overcome these issues, we conjugate here SAT-assembly -- a patchy-particle interaction design algorithm based on constrained optimization solvers -- with coarse-grained simulations of DNA nanotechnology to experimentally realize trap-free self-assembly pathways. As a proof of concept we investigate the assembly of the pyrochlore (also known as tetrastack) lattice, a highly coveted 3D crystal lattice due to its promise in construction of optical metamaterials. We confirm the successful assembly with two different patchy DNA origami designs via SAXS as well as SEM visualization of the silica-coated lattice. We have devised a predominantly Naive Bayes method to classify the optical/IR matches to X-ray sources detected by Chandra in the Cygnus OB2 association into foreground, member, and background objects. We employ a variety of X-ray, optical, and infrared characteristics to construct likelihoods using training sets defined by well-measured sources. Combinations of optical photometry from SDSS (riz) and IPHAS (riHa), IR magnitudes from UKIDSS and 2MASS (JHK), X-ray quantiles and hardness ratios, and estimates of extinction Av are used to compute the relative probabilities that a given source belongs to one of the classes. We use Principal Component Analysis of photometric magnitude combinations to isolate the best axes for classification. We incorporate measurement errors into the classification. We evaluate the accuracy of the classification by inspection and reclassify a number of sources based on IR magnitudes, presence of disks, and X-ray spectral hardness. We also consider systematic errors due to extinction. We find that about 6100 objects are association members, 1400 are background, and 500 are foreground objects. Extent of resection after surgery is one of the main prognostic factors for patients diagnosed with glioblastoma. To achieve this, accurate segmentation and classification of residual tumor from post-operative MR images is essential. The current standard method for estimating it is subject to high inter- and intra-rater variability, and an automated method for segmentation of residual tumor in early post-operative MRI could lead to a more accurate estimation of extent of resection. In this study, two state-of-the-art neural network architectures for pre-operative segmentation were trained for the task. The models were extensively validated on a multicenter dataset with nearly 1000 patients, from 12 hospitals in Europe and the United States. The best performance achieved was a 61\% Dice score, and the best classification performance was about 80\% balanced accuracy, with a demonstrated ability to generalize across hospitals. In addition, the segmentation performance of the best models was on par with human expert raters. The control over the self-assembly of complex structures is a long-standing challenge of material science, especially at the colloidal scale, as the desired assembly pathway is often kinetically derailed by the formation of amorphous aggregates. Here we investigate in detail the problem of the self-assembly of the three Archimedean shells with five contact points per vertex, i.e. the icosahedron, the snub cube, and the snub dodecahedron. We use patchy particles with five interaction sites (or patches) as model for the building blocks, and recast the assembly problem as a Boolean satisfiability problem (SAT) for the patch-patch interactions. This allows us to find effective designs for all targets, and to selectively suppress unwanted structures. By tuning the geometrical arrangement and the specific interactions of the patches, we demonstrate that lowering the symmetry of the building blocks reduces the number of competing structures, which in turn can considerably increase the yield of the target structure. Polymer chains decorated with a fraction of monomers capable of forming reversible bonds form transient polymer networks that are important in soft and biological systems. If chains are flexible and the attractive monomers are all of the same species, the network formation occurs continuously as density increases. By contrast, it has been recently shown [L. Rovigatti and F. Sciortino, Phys. Rev. Lett. 129, 047801 (2022)] that, if the attractive monomers are of two different and alternating types, the entropic gain of swapping intra-molecular bonds for inter-molecular connections induces a first order phase transition in the fully-bonded (\textit{i.e.} low-temperature or, equivalently, large monomer-monomer attraction strength) limit and the network forms abruptly on increasing density. Here we use simulations to show that this phenomenon is robust with respect to thermal fluctuations, disorder and change in the polymer architecture, demonstrating its generality and likely relevance for the wide class of materials that can be modelled as associative (transient) polymer networks., Comment: Resubmission to SciPost

Nucleation in systems with a metastable liquid-gas critical point is the prototypical example of a two-step nucleation process, in which the appearance of the critical nucleus is preceded by the formation of a liquid-like density fluctuation. So far, the majority of studies on colloidal and protein crystallization have focused on one-component systems, and we are lacking a clear description of two-step nucleation processes in multicomponent systems, where critical fluctuations involve coupled density and concentrations inhomogeneities. Here, we examine the nucleation process of a binary mixture of patchy particles designed to nucleate into a diamond lattice. By combining Gibbs-ensemble simulations and direct nucleation simulations over a wide range of thermodynamic conditions, we are able to pin down the role of the liquid-gas metastable phase diagram on the nucleation process. In particular, we show that the strongest enhancement of crystallization occurs at an azeotropic point with the same stoichiometric composition of the crystal., Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures

The Athena X-ray Integral Unit (X-IFU) is the high resolution X-ray spectrometer, studied since 2015 for flying in the mid-30s on the Athena space X-ray Observatory, a versatile observatory designed to address the Hot and Energetic Universe science theme, selected in November 2013 by the Survey Science Committee. Based on a large format array of Transition Edge Sensors (TES), it aims to provide spatially resolved X-ray spectroscopy, with a spectral resolution of 2.5 eV (up to 7 keV) over an hexagonal field of view of 5 arc minutes (equivalent diameter). The X-IFU entered its System Requirement Review (SRR) in June 2022, at about the same time when ESA called for an overall X-IFU redesign (including the X-IFU cryostat and the cooling chain), due to an unanticipated cost overrun of Athena. In this paper, after illustrating the breakthrough capabilities of the X-IFU, we describe the instrument as presented at its SRR, browsing through all the subsystems and associated requirements. We then show the instrument budgets, with a particular emphasis on the anticipated budgets of some of its key performance parameters. Finally we briefly discuss on the ongoing key technology demonstration activities, the calibration and the activities foreseen in the X-IFU Instrument Science Center, and touch on communication and outreach activities, the consortium organisation, and finally on the life cycle assessment of X-IFU aiming at minimising the environmental footprint, associated with the development of the instrument. Thanks to the studies conducted so far on X-IFU, it is expected that along the design-to-cost exercise requested by ESA, the X-IFU will maintain flagship capabilities in spatially resolved high resolution X-ray spectroscopy, enabling most of the original X-IFU related scientific objectives of the Athena mission to be retained. An early detection of different tumor subtypes is crucial for an effective guidance to personalized therapy. While much efforts focus on decoding the sequence of DNA basis to detect the genetic mutations related to cancer, it is becoming clear that physical properties, including structural conformation, stiffness, and shape, as well as biological processes, such as methylation, can be pivotal to recognize DNA modifications. Here we exploit the Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) platform, based on disordered silver coated--silicon nanowires, to investigate genomic DNA from subtypes of melanoma and colon cancers and to efficiently discriminate tumor and healthy cells, as well as the different tumor subtypes. The diagnostic information is obtained by performing label--free Raman maps of the dried drops of DNA solutions onto the Ag/NWs mat, and leveraging the classification ability of learning models to reveal the specific and distinct interaction of healthy and tumor DNA molecules with nanowires., Comment: 19 pages, 11 figures, 3 tables

We present a neural network (NN) potential based on a new set of atomic fingerprints built upon two- and three-body contributions that probe distances and local orientational order respectively. Compared to existing NN potentials, the atomic fingerprints depend on a small set of tuneable parameters which are trained together with the neural network weights. To tackle the simultaneous training of the atomic fingerprint parameters and neural network weights we adopt an annealing protocol that progressively cycles the learning rate, significantly improving the accuracy of the NN potential. We test the performance of the network potential against the mW model of water, which is a classical three-body potential that well captures the anomalies of the liquid phase. Trained on just three state points, the NN potential is able to reproduce the mW model in a very wide range of densities and temperatures, from negative pressures to several GPa, capturing the transition from an open random tetrahedral network to a dense interpenetrated network. The NN potential also reproduces very well properties for which it was not explicitly trained, such as dynamical properties and the structure of the stable crystalline phases of mW., Comment: 14 pages, 11 figures

Matching statistics were introduced to solve the approximate string matching problem, which is a recurrent subroutine in bioinformatics applications. In 2010, Ohlebusch et al. [SPIRE 2010] proposed a time and space efficient algorithm for computing matching statistics which relies on some components of a compressed suffix tree - notably, the longest common prefix (LCP) array. In this paper, we show how their algorithm can be generalized from strings to Wheeler deterministic finite automata. Most importantly, we introduce a notion of LCP array for Wheeler automata, thus establishing a first clear step towards extending (compressed) suffix tree functionalities to labeled graphs.

The processes that lead from molecular clouds to protostars, stellar associations, and the evolution of both, are active research topics. The target of this study, NGC2264, is a benchmark star-forming region (SFR) in which these issues can be profitably studied. We assembled a new extensive sample of NGC 2264 members. To this end we used new X-ray data obtained with the XMM-Newton telescope, GAIA eDR3 data, and an extensive collection of public and published catalogs. Following a previous suggestion that the SFR might extend significantly beyond the better studied areas, our search covers a wide 2.5x2.5 degrees region in the sky. Our catalog comprises more than 2200 candidate members, a ~100% increase over previous determinations. We analyze their spatial distribution and define new substructures. Using GAIA parallaxes we estimate a new average distance to NGC2264 of 722+/-2pc and suggest that the embedded Spokes subregion is ~20pc farther away within the molecular cloud. A complex dynamics is unveiled by the available proper motions and radial velocities: we observe signs of global expansion and rotation. At the same time, we observe the collapse and coalescence of two substructures in a region where active star formation is taking place. The fraction of stars with disks and of those undergoing circumstellar accretion varies significantly across the field, suggesting that star formation has been occurring for several million years. A particularly low disk fraction around the O VII star S Mon might be attributed to external disk photoevaporation or to an older age of the stars in the region. NGC2264 is not dynamically relaxed and its present configuration is the result of multiple dynamical processes. The goal of inverse self-assembly is to design inter-particle interactions capable of assembling the units into a desired target structure. The effective assembly of complex structures often requires the use of multiple components, each new component increasing the thermodynamic degrees of freedom and hence the complexity of the self-assembly pathway. In this work we explore the possibility to use azeotropy, i.e. a special thermodynamic condition where the system behaves effectively as a one-component system, as a way to control the self-assembly of an arbitrarily number of components. Exploiting the mass-balance equations we show how to select patchy particle systems that exhibit azeotropic points along the desired self-assembly pathway. As an example we map the phase diagram of a binary mixture that, by design, fully assembles into cubic (and only cubic) diamond crystal via an azeotropic point.
