Background: Summer camps engage millions of youth in enrichment opportunities during the summertime while employing a substantial young adult workforce to provide high-quality programs and services to camp participants. Workplace fatigue has been implicated in camp-related injury and illness events, yet few studies have targeted fatigue among camp employees. Purpose: This study aimed to better understand how fatigue impacted employee performance as well as strategies for reducing the negative impacts of fatigue within camp settings. Methodology/Approach: Focus groups were conducted with camp health care providers and directors, and their responses were analyzed using directed content analysis. The analysis process was guided by sensitizing concepts from the literature. Findings/Conclusions: Emergent themes suggested that camp-related fatigue is conceptualized as a construct of time, types, and causes; is a distinct experience leading to setting-specific outcomes; is managed using administrative and peer supports; and is sometimes perceived in positive ways. Implications: This exploratory study highlighted the unique challenges associated with working in a camp setting and the potential development of fatigue as a starting point informing future research. It suggests that future research should include a broader study population, including frontline staff, as well as possible quantitative measures.

Decades of industrial-scale logging have damaged the structure, function, and composition of Australia's forests; increased the threat from severe fires; and generated social distrust – all in a disrupted climate regime. As state agencies withdraw from logging, restoration of forest resilience becomes paramount. We critique two recent proposals for 'commercial timber operations' in two Australian states that have recently 'ceased logging native forests': (1) wind-throw removal via 'community forestry' in Victoria; and (2) 'ecological thinning' in Western Australia. Analysis suggests that ecological restoration will require: (1) scientifically valid and reliable projects; (2) integration across knowledge systems; (3) full cost-benefit accounting; (4) repair of forest legacy damage; (5) restoration of environmental resilience; (6) control of environmental weeds, pests and pathogens; (7) enhanced capacity for early detection of, and rapid response to disturbance; (8) generation of trust to enable a social licence; (9) fostering integrity in media and public relations; and (10) appropriate categorisation in land use. Neither case study demonstrate the application of these forest restoration principles nor provides a way to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposals. These case studies continue the resource-led exploitation of post-production forests, exacerbating damage through the continued depletion of the natural assets essential to generating resilience. Moving beyond resource-led to environment-led management is necessary to restore the ecological integrity of these forests. A shift from the resource-led focus to an environment-led focus guided by scientifically validated principles is likely to also require new administrative and governance arrangements for these forests. Two case studies of 'ecological forestry' ('community forestry' in Victoria, and 'ecological thinning' in Western Australia) demonstrate the urgency to transition from resource-led to environment-led management in the restoration of post-production forests. The COVID-19 pandemic caused significant changes in camp health care implementation. This study evaluated camp providers' COVID-19 management practices following the summer of 2021 to inform future communicable disease planning. Online questionnaire data were collected from camp leaders and health care providers (n = 321). Reported COVID-19 cases were very low among both campers and staff. Most camps encouraged camper and staff vaccination before camp, with only a quarter requiring staff vaccination. NPIs used most frequently included cohorting, enhanced cleaning procedures, and scheduled hand hygiene. Camps also reduced the number of campers served and relocated dining, camp health care, and other activities outdoors. A positive correlation was found between requiring staff COVID vaccination and no positive COVID-19 cases. These findings offer insight into communicable disease mitigation strategies and organizational planning that can continue to keep camp populations healthy during communicable disease events like COVID-19. Aims and objectives: To review and synthesise the current literature on social support and hospital readmission rates. Background: Hospital readmission rates have not declined significantly since 2010 despite efforts to identify and implement strategies to reduce readmissions. After discharge, patients often report the need for help at home with personal care, medical care and/or transportation. Social factors can positively or negatively affect the transition from hospital to home and the extended recovery period experienced by patients. Methods: Published primary studies in peer‐reviewed journals, written in English, assessing the adult medical/surgical population and discussing social support and hospital readmission rates were included. A Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta‐Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA‐ScR) was completed for this scoping review. Results: The search resulted in 2919 articles. After removing duplicates and reviewing content for the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 23 articles were selected for review. Social support is provided by those within one's social circle. There are several types of social support and depending on the needs to the patient, the type of social required and provided is different. Conclusions: The most common form of social support needed at home for people recovering after a hospitalisation was instrumental support, tangible care in the form of assistance with daily personal and medical care, and transportation. Patients who lacked adequate social support after discharge were at an increased risk of hospital readmission. Relevance to clinical practice: Identifying factors, such as social support, that may impact hospital readmission rates is important for quality hospital to home care transitions. Assessing patients' needs and available social support to meet those needs may be an essential part of the discharge planning process to decrease the risk of hospital readmission. The known distributions of two mutational variants of the albumin gene that are restricted to Mexico and/or North America, Albumin Mexico (AL*Mexico) and Albumin Naskapi (AL*Naskapi), were expanded by the electrophoretic analysis of sera collected from more than 3,500 Native Americans representing several dozen tribal groups. With a few exceptions that could be due to recent, isolated cases of admixture, AL*Naskapi is limited to groups that speak Athapaskan and Algonquian, two widely distributed language families not thought to be related, and to several linguistically unrelated groups geographically proximate to its probable ancestral homeland. Similarly, AL*Mexico is limited to groups that speak Yuman or Uto-Aztecan, two language groups in the American Southwest and Baja California not thought to be closely related to each other, and to several linguistically unrelated groups throughout Mexico. The simultaneous consideration of genetic, historical, linguistic, and archaeological evidence suggests that AL*Naskapi probably originated on the northwestern coast of North America, perhaps in some group ancestral to both Athapaskans and Algonquians, and then spread by migration and admixture to contiguous unrelated, or distantly related, tribal groups. AL*Mexico probably originated in Mexico before 3,000 years BP then spread northward along the Tepiman corridor together with cultural influences to several unrelated groups that participated in the Hohokam culture. Human service organizations should analyze all the legal and practical aspects of implementing Quality Circles before including one in the organization. Quality Circles, which can enhance productivity, have several disadvantages that include difficulty of implementation and requirements that include great amounts of investments in terms of time. Quality Circles are also forbidden by law to discuss topics such as labor disputes and political issues. Human service organizations would be well advised to hire the services of a labor lawyer before embarking on this type of management.
