Abstract Background Alcohol use is a major public health challenge in France, where at the age of 17 half the young people report an episode of severe alcohol intoxication in the month preceding the survey. Numerous prevention programmes have a general objective, but in adolescence individual vulnerabilities towards addictions differ significantly with personality traits. Prevention targeting personality traits enables work on risk factors for addictive behaviours, and has shown genuine efficacy. Among existing programmes, PREVENTURE has shown an effect on the reduction in alcohol consumption by targeting four personality traits: impulsivity, sensation-seeking, negative thoughts and anxiety. This programme has been tested on samples recruited in adolescent populations in school environments, identifying adolescents at risk, but it has not been tested on a more targeted recruitment of adolescents seen in consultation. Methods The main hypothesis of this study is that the targeted prevention programme PREVENTURE will have an impact on the prevalence of binge-drinking episodes. The secondary hypotheses explore other factors such as associated substance use, anxiety and depression, as well as the acceptability of the programme. This article presents the study protocol of “PREVADO” study. We intend to assess the impact of the targeted intervention programme PREVENTURE on the prevalence of binge-drinking episodes among adolescents aged 14 to 17 years consulting in one of the participating centres or referred by a school doctor. The study will be prospective, randomised, controlled and open-label, and will comprise an intervention group and a control group. The adolescents will then be followed and assessed 1, 3, 6 and 12 months after the intervention. The study needs to include 700 subjects in order to reach 340 adolescents randomised, 170 in each group. It will concern 33 centres. Discussion This project could favour the targeting of addictive behaviours among vulnerable adolescents, and its application on a larger scale could be envisaged. Background: Slamming has been developing since 2011 as a new international phenomenon, mostly among men who have sex with men (MSM). It consists of intravenous drug injection before or during planned sexual activity to sustain, enhance, disinhibit, or facilitate the experience. We aimed to synthesize the available published evidence through a systematic literature review in order to precisely describe this phenomenon and to better characterize the population engaging in this practice and its specific motives.Methods: A systematic review of the available literature was conducted to identify all relevant publications using PubMed, Psyc-INFO, the Cochrane Library, and ScienceDirect. To complete the review, we followed the recommendations of the "Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses" method. We limited the search to studies published between January 2008 and May 2020.Results: Our search identified 530 publications, of which 27 were included in the final data synthesis. One study focused on heterosexual and homosexual subpopulations, and all other studies focused on MSM-specific samples. Among MSM, slam prevalence was extremely variable, ranging from 2 to 91%; regarding other sexually active subjects, prevalence ranged from 7 to 14%. The prevalence of HIV-positive subjects varied widely across studies, ranging from 0.6 to 100%. We found less data about hepatitis C virus serostatus, ranging from 3 to 100%. Methamphetamine and mephedrone were the 2 most used drugs.Discussion/conclusion: The data we found in international literature were very heterogeneous and from poorly reproducible studies. The definition of slamming in the international literature is not always clear, which limits the completeness of the collected data. This topic has been open to studies only recently; however, health professionals must be trained in the management of this practice, considering its risks in the short and medium terms and its addictive potential. Background: Sex addiction (SA) may co-occur with other psychiatric disorders such as suicidal behavior. This is a crucial issue from a prognostic perspective and few studies have explored this phenomenon in depth in patients with SA. The objectives of our study were to determine the prevalence of suicidal risk (SR) in patients with SA, to identify factors associated with SR in this population and to describe their clinical profiles. Method: Data were collected in the EVALADD cohort. The sample used for the present study included 136 patients with SA. The presence of SA was assessed by the Sexual Addiction Screening Test and the SR by the MINI 5.0. To identify factors associated with a SR and with a higher risk of suicide, we performed two multivariate logistic regressions. Results: More than 46% of patients had a suicidal risk when they started treatment (63/136). Having a current mood disorder, a current anxiety disorder, relatives aware of the SA and a low level of self-directedness were factors associated with a suicidal risk. Patients with a higher risk of suicide had a lower level of perseverance and less frequently a secure attachment style. Conclusions: Individuals with SA are at high risk of suicide, maybe even more than for the other behavioral addictions. The presence of the factors associated with a suicidal risk in SA could alert the clinician about an act that is sometimes difficult to predict. Looking for a suicide attempt when the patient initiates treatment for SA is a crucial factor that can improve the prognosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Slamming has been increasing internationally for ten years, mostly among men who have sex with men. Slamming consists of injecting psychostimulants (including new psychoactive substances-NPS) intravenously to increase sexual performance., Objective: The objective of our work was to analyse drug-drug interactions related to slamming., Methods: Drawing upon a reported case of a slam session describing hour by hour the intake of substances, we performed a drug-interaction analysis using international references and a comprehensive literature review. High doses of sildenafil, GBL and 3-MMC were reported during the 40-hour session described. The specific drug-interaction research was performed using 9 references and 65 of the 209 records identified in the literature review., Results: Pharmacological data regarding nonmedicated substances were scarce. Regarding pharmacodynamics, the risk was high at the cardiovascular level and was related to the vasodilatation effect of sildenafil and the adrenergic and serotoninergic properties of stimulants; this risk may increase with usual treatment (involving other vasodilators or central depressants). Regarding pharmacokinetics, the major interactions concerned metabolism by CYP3A4 and CYP2C9, leading to interactions, particularly with HIV medication., Conclusion: This innovative work provides pharmacological information on drugs that are commonly used in slamming, allowing the development of effective medical-management protocols and the provision of risk-reduction counselling., (Copyright© Bentham Science Publishers; For any queries, please email at epub@benthamscience.net.)

Background: Zolpidem is one of the most prescribed hypnotic drugs. In 2001, the World Health Organization alerted a risk of pharmacodependence associated with zolpidem. The French health authority decided in 2017 to enforce security on the prescription of zolpidem to reduce those risks. The aim of our study was to evaluate the impact of regulatory framework implementation, secure prescription pad, on the prevalence and incidence of prescriptions of zolpidem according to the age., Methods: This study was based on an observational study using the French healthcare data system. Two age categories were defined: "younger" and "older" (<65 years, ≥65 years); in order to study the evolution of prevalence and incidence of zolpidem use in our two groups, two periods were defined, before and after the implementation of the measure., Results: The prevalence decreased in the younger population by 51% (4012 vs. 7948 consumers), while that of the older population decreased by 42% (4151 vs. 7282). This difference in our two groups, with a greater decrease in the younger people, is statistically significant compared to the older people., Conclusion: Our study showed that regulatory framework implementation and mandatory secure prescription pad is more effective for decreasing prevalence of zolpidem prescription for younger people compared to older people.
