Monitoring the spatial distribution and trends in surface greenhouse gas (GHG) fluxes, as well as flux attribution to natural and anthropogenic processes, is essential to track progress under the Paris Agreement and to inform its global stocktake. This study updates earlier syntheses (Petrescu et al., 2020, 2021, 2023), provides a consolidated synthesis of CH4 emissions using bottom-up (BU) and top-down (TD) approaches for the European Union (EU), and is expanded to include seven additional countries with large anthropogenic and/or natural emissions (the USA, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Russia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo)). Our aim is to demonstrate the use of different emission estimates to help improve national GHG emission inventories for a diverse geographical range of stakeholders. We use updated national GHG inventories (NGHGIs) reported by Annex I parties under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 2023 and the latest available biennial update reports (BURs) reported by non-Annex I parties. Comparing NGHGIs with other approaches highlights that different system boundaries are a key source of divergence. A key system boundary difference is whether anthropogenic and natural fluxes are included and, if they are, how fluxes belonging to these two sources are partitioned. Over the studied period, the total CH4 emission estimates in the EU, the USA, and Russia show a steady decreasing trend since 1990, while for the non-Annex I emitters analyzed in this study, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, and DR Congo, CH4 emissions have generally increased. Quantitatively, in the EU the mean of 2015–2020 anthropogenic UNFCCC NGHGIs (15±1.8 Tg CH4 yr−1) and the mean of the BU CH4 emissions (17.8 (16–19) Tg CH4 yr−1) generally agree on the magnitude, while inversions show higher emission estimates (medians of 21 (19–22) Tg CH4 yr−1 and 24 (22–25) Tg CH4 yr−1 for the three regional and six global inversions, respectively), as they include natural emissions, which for the EU were quantified at 6.6 Tg CH4 yr−1 (Petrescu et al., 2023). Similarly, for the other Annex I parties in this study (the USA and Russia), the gap between the BU anthropogenic and total TD emissions is partly explained by the natural emissions. For the non-Annex I parties, anthropogenic CH4 estimates from UNFCCC BURs show large differences compared to the other global-inventory-based estimates and even more compared to atmospheric ones. This poses an important potential challenge to monitoring the progress of the global CH4 pledge and the global stocktake. Our analysis provides a useful baseline to prepare for the influx of inventories from non-Annex I parties as regular reporting starts under the enhanced transparency framework of the Paris Agreement. By systematically comparing the BU and TD methods, this study provides recommendations for more robust comparisons of available data sources and hopes to steadily engage more parties in using observational methods to complement their UNFCCC inventories, as well as considering their natural emissions. With anticipated improvements in atmospheric modeling and observations, as well as modeling of natural fluxes, future development needs to resolve knowledge gaps in the BU and TD approaches and to better quantify the remaining uncertainty. TD methods may emerge as a powerful tool to help improve NGHGIs of CH4 emissions, but further confidence is needed in the comparability and robustness of the estimates. Abstract TB/HIV coinfection poses a complex public health challenge. Accurate forecasting of future trends is essential for efficient resource allocation and intervention strategy development. This study compares classical statistical and machine learning models to predict TB/HIV coinfection cases stratified by gender and the general populations. We analyzed time series data using exponential smoothing and ARIMA to establish the baseline trend and seasonality. Subsequently, machine learning models (SVR, XGBoost, LSTM, CNN, GRU, CNN-GRU, and CNN-LSTM) were employed to capture the complex dynamics and inherent non-linearities of TB/HIV coinfection data. Performance metrics (MSE, MAE, sMAPE) and the Diebold-Mariano test were used to evaluate the model performance. Results revealed that Deep Learning models, particularly Bidirectional LSTM and CNN-LSTM, significantly outperformed classical methods. This demonstrates the effectiveness of Deep Learning for modeling TB/HIV coinfection time series and generating more accurate forecasts.

BACKGROUND: Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a highly prevalent childhood and adult behavioral disorder. Internet searches for ADHD information are rising, particularly for diagnosis and treatment. Despite effective ADHD treatments, research suggests that there are delays in seeking help for ADHD. Identifying ways to shorten delays is important for minimizing morbidity associated with ADHD. One way to shorten these delays is to improve internet health information resources. Research shows that parents of children with ADHD feel that much of the information available is technical and not tailored for their childs needs and verbal instructions given by health care providers were too pharmacologically focused with limited information about how to manage and support ADHD symptoms in daily living. A majority of parents search the internet for general and pharmacological information for ADHD and prefer web-based resources for learning about ADHD, but web-based resources may be inaccurate and of low quality. Ensuring accurate information through the internet is an important step in assisting parents and adults in making informed decisions about the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD. OBJECTIVE: Although a great deal of information regarding ADHD is available on the internet, some information is not based on scientific evidence or is difficult for stakeholders to understand. Determining gaps in access to accurate ADHD information and stakeholder interest in the type of information desired is important in improving patient engagement with the health care system, but minimal research addresses these needs. This study aims to determine the information needs and formatting needs of web-based content for adults with ADHD and parents of children with ADHD in order to improve user experience and engagement. METHODS: This was a 3-phase study consisting of in-depth phone interviews about experiences with ADHD and barriers searching for ADHD-related information, focus groups where participants were instructed to consider the pathways by which they made decisions using web-based resources, and observing participants interacting with a newly developed website tailored for adults with potential ADHD and caregivers of children who had or might have ADHD. Phase 1 individual interviews and phase 2 focus groups identified the needs of the ADHD stakeholders related to website content and format. Interview and focus group findings were used to develop a website. Phase 3 used think-aloud interviews to evaluate website usability to inform the tailoring of the website based on user feedback. RESULTS: Interviews and focus group findings revealed preferences for ADHD website information and content, website layout, and information sources. Themes included a preference for destigmatizing information about ADHD, information specific to patient demographics, and evidence-based information tailored to lay audiences. CONCLUSIONS: ADHD stakeholders are specifically seeking positive information about ADHD presented in a user-friendly format.

Vasorin (Vasn) is a pleiotropic molecule involved in various physiological and pathological conditions, including cancer. Vasn has also been detected in bone cells of developing skeletal tissues but no function for Vasn in bone metabolism has been implicated yet. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate if Vasn plays a significant role in bone biology. First, we investigated tissue distribution of Vasn expression, using lacZ knock-in reporter mice. We detected clear Vasn expression in skeletal elements of postnatal mice. In particular, osteocytes and bone forming osteoblasts showed high expression of Vasn, while the bone marrow was devoid of signal. Vasn knockout mice (Vasn−/−) displayed postnatal growth retardation and died after four weeks. MicroCT analysis of femurs from 22- to 25-day-old Vasn−/− mice demonstrated reduced trabecular and cortical bone volume corresponding to a low bone mass phenotype. Ex vivo bone marrow cultures demonstrated that osteoclast differentiation and activity were not affected by Vasn deficiency. However, osteogenesis of Vasn−/− bone marrow cultures was disturbed, resulting in lower numbers of alkaline phosphate positive colonies, impaired mineralization and lower expression of osteoblast marker genes. In addition to the bone phenotype, these mice developed a vitamin D3-related phenotype with a strongly reduced circulating 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 and urinary loss of vitamin D binding protein. In conclusion, Vasn-deficient mice suffer from severe disturbances in bone metabolism and mineral homeostasis.

The present study describes two occurrences of clam shrimps (“Conchostraca”). Following a form-based classification of Schneider et al. (2005, 2022) and Schneider & Scholze (2018), the conchostracans have been classified as Pseudestheria form Oberbozen and Pseudestheria form Le Fraine. They come from the Guncina and Tregiovo formations, repectivey. These units are part of the northern Athesian Volcanic Group, North Italy. All of this material were obtained from grey coloured, fine-grained siliciclastic, lacustrine deposits of Kungurian (late Cisuralian, late Early Permian) age. Their carapace valves in lateral view are marked by concentric ribs. Often, growth lines can be observed to decrease in their preservation towards the umbonal area of the valve. An open nomenclature is applied to the taxonomy at the species level herein, because of either limited number of individuals or a plastic deformation due to tectonics. So far, the records reported herein are restricted geographically and stratigraphically to respective single occurrences. Further studies are recommended to establish their full biostratigraphic ranges.

The processes responsible for methane (CH4) emissions from boreal wetlands are complex; hence, their model representation is complicated by a large number of parameters and parameter uncertainties. The arctic-enabled dynamic global vegetation model LPJ-GUESS (Lund–Potsdam–Jena General Ecosystem Simulator) is one such model that allows quantification and understanding of the natural wetland CH4 fluxes at various scales, ranging from local to regional and global, but with several uncertainties. The model contains detailed descriptions of the CH4 production, oxidation, and transport controlled by several process parameters. Complexities in the underlying environmental processes, warming-driven alternative paths of meteorological phenomena, and changes in hydrological and vegetation conditions highlight the need for a calibrated and optimised version of LPJ-GUESS. In this study, we formulated the parameter calibration as a Bayesian problem, using knowledge of reasonable parameters values as priors. We then used an adaptive Metropolis–Hastings (MH)-based Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithm to improve predictions of CH4 emission by LPJ-GUESS and to quantify uncertainties. Application of this method on uncertain parameters allows for a greater search of their posterior distribution, leading to a more complete characterisation of the posterior distribution with a reduced risk of the sample impoverishment that can occur when using other optimisation methods. For assimilation, the analysis used flux measurement data gathered during the period from 2005 to 2014 from the Siikaneva wetlands in Southern Finland with an estimation of measurement uncertainties. The data are used to constrain the processes behind the CH4 dynamics, and the posterior covariance structures are used to explain how the parameters and the processes are related. To further support the conclusions, the CH4 flux and the other component fluxes associated with the flux are examined. The results demonstrate the robustness of MCMC methods to quantitatively assess the interrelationship between objective function choices, parameter identifiability, and data support. The experiment using real observations from Siikaneva resulted in a reduction in the root-mean-square error (RMSE), from 0.044 to 0.023 gC m−2 d−1, and a 93.89 % reduction in the cost function value. As a part of this work, knowledge about how CH4 data can constrain the parameters and processes is derived. Although the optimisation is performed based on a single site's flux data from Siikaneva, the algorithm is useful for larger-scale multi-site studies for a more robust calibration of LPJ-GUESS and similar models, and the results can highlight where model improvements are needed.

Abstract The two phases of El‐Niño‐Southern Oscillation (ENSO) influence both regional and global terrestrial vegetation productivity on inter‐annual scales. However, the major drivers for the regional vegetation productivity and their controlling strengths during different phases of ENSO remain unclear. We herein disentangled the impacts of two phases of ENSO on regional carbon cycle using multiple data sets. We found that soil moisture predominantly accounts for ∼40% of the variability in regional vegetation productivity during ENSO events. Our results showed that the satellite‐derived vegetation productivity proxies, gross primary productivity from data‐driven models (FLUXCOM) and observation‐constrained ecosystem model (Carbon Cycle Data Assimilation System) generally agree in depicting the contribution of soil moisture and air temperature in modulating regional vegetation productivity. However, the ensemble of weakly constrained ecosystem models exhibits non‐negligible discrepancies in the roles of vapor pressure deficit and radiation over extra‐tropics. This study highlights the significance of water in regulating regional vegetation productivity during ENSO.

Introduction: The plant-based alkaloid muscimol is a potent agonist of inhibitory GABAA-neurotransmitter receptors. GABAA receptors are a heterogeneous family of pentameric complexes, with 5 out of 19 subunits assembling around the central anion pore. Muscimol is considered to bind to all receptor subtypes at the orthosteric drug binding site at the β+/α− interface. Recently, we observed that the antipsychotic drugs clozapine (CLZ), loxapine (LOX) and chlorpromazine (CPZ) although exerting functional inhibition on multiple GABAA receptor subtypes showed diverging results in displacing 3H-muscimol. While a complete displacement could be observed in hippocampal membranes by bicuculline (BIC), and no displacement with CPZ, the compounds CLZ and LOX competed partially. Non-sigmoidal, complex dose response curves were indicative of multiple sites. In the current study we now aimed to investigate more extensively this heterogeneity of bicuculline sensitive muscimol sites in rat brain.Methods: We tested membranes from four different brain regions (hippocampus, cerebellum, thalamus and striatum) and selected recombinantly expressed subunit combinations with displacement assays. 3H-muscimol displacement was tested with BIC, LOX, CLZ and CPZ. In silico ligand structural analysis and computational docking was performed.Results: We observed a unique pharmacology of each tested compound in the studied brain regions. Combining two of the tested ligands suggests that in striatum all CLZ sites are contained in the pool of LOX sites, while the CPZ sites may in part be non-overlapping with LOX sites. Experiments on recombinantly expressed receptors indicate, that BIC can displace 3H-muscimol from all tested receptors, while LOX and CLZ display different and variable competition indicative of multiple sites. Molecular docking produced structural correlates of the observed diversity of muscimol sites on the basis of bicuculline bound experimental structures.Discussion: These findings indicate that 3H-muscimol binding sites in rat brain are heterogeneous, with different populations of receptors, which are CPZ, LOX or CLZ sensitive or insensitive. These binding sites show a varying distribution in different rat brain regions. Molecular docking suggests that the so-called loop F region of α subunits drives the observed differences.

Objetivo: analisar as características das pessoas acometidas por tuberculose e a distribuição espacial dos casos notificados, do abandono do tratamento, bem como de unidades de saúde em um município prioritário no Mato Grosso. Método: estudo ecológico com os casos de tuberculose notificados no período de 2011 a 2020 no município de Barra do Garças-MT. Os dados foram obtidos pelo Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação, sendo investigadas as variáveis sociodemográficas e clínico-operacionais da tuberculose. Foi calculada a taxa de incidência dos casos por ano. Após realizou-se a distribuição espacial, de acordo com os bairros do município, do número de casos e de abandono do tratamento, bem como de unidades de saúde pertencentes a atenção básica. Resultados: Foram notificados 337 casos com predomínio do sexo masculino (n=230;68,25%), pessoas indígenas (n=120;35,61%), idade entre 15 e 59 anos (n=242;71,81%) e com 1 a 8 anos de estudo (n=159;46,88%). Quanto aos dados clínico-operacionais a maioria eram casos novos (n=269;79,82%), que não realizaram cultura de escarro (n=305;90,50%), sendo que 41,25% (n=139) não realizaram o tratamento diretamente observado (n=110;57,29%) e apenas 56,97% (n=192) evoluíram para cura. A incidência média anual foi de 54,62 casos por 100.000/habitantes. Os bairros Santo Antônio e Centro apresentaram maior número de notificados e abandono do tratamento. A presença de unidades de estratégia de saúde da família e policlínicas não foram determinantes para ocorrência dos fenômenos investigados. Conclusão: identificou o perfil das pessoas mais afetadas, bem como as áreas críticas em relação ao número de casos e abandono do tratamento.

Quantification of land surface–atmosphere fluxes of carbon dioxide (CO2) and their trends and uncertainties is essential for monitoring progress of the EU27+UK bloc as it strives to meet ambitious targets determined by both international agreements and internal regulation. This study provides a consolidated synthesis of fossil sources (CO2 fossil) and natural (including formally managed ecosystems) sources and sinks over land (CO2 land) using bottom-up (BU) and top-down (TD) approaches for the European Union and United Kingdom (EU27+UK), updating earlier syntheses (Petrescu et al., 2020, 2021). Given the wide scope of the work and the variety of approaches involved, this study aims to answer essential questions identified in the previous syntheses and understand the differences between datasets, particularly for poorly characterized fluxes from managed and unmanaged ecosystems. The work integrates updated emission inventory data, process-based model results, data-driven categorical model results, and inverse modeling estimates, extending the previous period 1990–2018 to the year 2020 to the extent possible. BU and TD products are compared with the European national greenhouse gas inventory (NGHGI) reported by parties including the year 2019 under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The uncertainties of the EU27+UK NGHGI were evaluated using the standard deviation reported by the EU member states following the guidelines of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and harmonized by gap-filling procedures. Variation in estimates produced with other methods, such as atmospheric inversion models (TD) or spatially disaggregated inventory datasets (BU), originate from within-model uncertainty related to parameterization as well as structural differences between models. By comparing the NGHGI with other approaches, key sources of differences between estimates arise primarily in activities. System boundaries and emission categories create differences in CO2 fossil datasets, while different land use definitions for reporting emissions from land use, land use change, and forestry (LULUCF) activities result in differences for CO2 land. The latter has important consequences for atmospheric inversions, leading to inversions reporting stronger sinks in vegetation and soils than are reported by the NGHGI. For CO2 fossil emissions, after harmonizing estimates based on common activities and selecting the most recent year available for all datasets, the UNFCCC NGHGI for the EU27+UK accounts for 926 ± 13 Tg C yr−1, while eight other BU sources report a mean value of 948 [937,961] Tg C yr−1 (25th, 75th percentiles). The sole top-down inversion of fossil emissions currently available accounts for 875 Tg C in this same year, a value outside the uncertainty of both the NGHGI and bottom-up ensemble estimates and for which uncertainty estimates are not currently available. For the net CO2 land fluxes, during the most recent 5-year period including the NGHGI estimates, the NGHGI accounted for −91 ± 32 Tg C yr−1, while six other BU approaches reported a mean sink of −62 [-117,-49] Tg C yr−1, and a 15-member ensemble of dynamic global vegetation models (DGVMs) reported −69 [-152,-5] Tg C yr−1. The 5-year mean of three TD regional ensembles combined with one non-ensemble inversion of −73 Tg C yr−1 has a slightly smaller spread (0th–100th percentiles of [-135,+45] Tg C yr−1), and it was calculated after removing net land–atmosphere CO2 fluxes caused by lateral transport of carbon (crop trade, wood trade, river transport, and net uptake from inland water bodies), resulting in increased agreement with the NGHGI and bottom-up approaches. Results at the category level (Forest Land, Cropland, Grassland) generally show good agreement between the NGHGI and category-specific models, but results for DGVMs are mixed. Overall, for both CO2 fossil and net CO2 land fluxes, we find that current independent approaches are consistent with the NGHGI at the scale of the EU27+UK. We conclude that CO2 emissions from fossil sources have decreased over the past 30 years in the EU27+UK, while land fluxes are relatively stable: positive or negative trends larger (smaller) than 0.07 (−0.61) Tg C yr−2 can be ruled out for the NGHGI. In addition, a gap on the order of 1000 Tg C yr−1 between CO2 fossil emissions and net CO2 uptake by the land exists regardless of the type of approach (NGHGI, TD, BU), falling well outside all available estimates of uncertainties. However, uncertainties in top-down approaches to estimate CO2 fossil emissions remain uncharacterized and are likely substantial, in addition to known uncertainties in top-down estimates of the land fluxes. Introduction: Medical cannabis may provide a treatment option for chronic neuropathic pain. However, empirical disease-specific data are scarce. Methods: This is a retrospective observational study including 99 patients with chronic neuropathic pain. These patients received medical cannabis by means of inhaling dried flowers with tetrahydrocannabinol content of 6) decreased from 96% to 16% (p < 0.001). Sleep disturbance was significantly improved with the median of the scores decreased from 8.0 to 2.0 (p < 0.001). These improvements were sustained over a period of up to 6 months. There were no severe adverse events reported. Mild side effects reported were dryness in mucous tissue (5.4%), fatigue (4.8%), and increased appetite (2.7%). Therapy tolerance was reported in 91% of the interviews. Conclusion: Medical cannabis is safe and highly effective for treating neuropathic pain and concomitant sleep disturbance.

Abstract Data is an essential tool for valid and reliable healthcare management. Access to high-quality data is critical to ensuring the early identification of problems, the design of appropriate interventions, and the effective implementation and evaluation of health intervention outcomes. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for strong information systems and the value of producing high-quality data for timely response and tracking resources and progress have been very evident across countries. The availability of and access to high-quality data at all levels of the health systems of low and middle-income countries is a challenge, which is exacerbated by multiple parallels and poorly integrated data sources, a lack of data-sharing standards and policy frameworks, their weak enforcement, and inadequate skills among those handling data. Completeness, accuracy, integrity, validity, and timeliness are challenges to data availability and use. “Big Data” is a necessity and a challenge in the current complexities of health systems. In transitioning to digital systems with proper data standards and policy frameworks for privacy protection, data literacy, ownership, and data use at all levels of the health system, skill enhancement of the staff is critical. Adequate funding for strengthening routine information systems and periodic surveys and research, and reciprocal partnerships between high-income countries and low- and middle-income countries in data generation and use, should be prioritized by the low- and middle-income countries to foster evidence-based healthcare practices.

Curcumin is a natural compound that is considered safe and may have potential health benefits; however, its poor stability and water insolubility limit its therapeutic applications. Different strategies aim to increase its water solubility. Here, we tested the compound PVP–curcumin as a photosensitizer for antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) as well as its potential to act as an adjuvant in antibiotic drug therapy. Gram-negative E. coli K12 and Gram-positive S. capitis were subjected to aPDT using various PVP–curcumin concentrations (1–200 µg/mL) and 475 nm blue light (7.5–45 J/cm2). Additionally, results were compared to aPDT using 415 nm blue light. Gene expression of recA and umuC were analyzed via RT-qPCR to assess effects on the bacterial SOS response. Further, the potentiation of Ciprofloxacin by PVP–curcumin was investigated, as well as its potential to prevent the emergence of antibiotic resistance. Both bacterial strains were efficiently reduced when irradiated with 415 nm blue light (2.2 J/cm2) and 10 µg/mL curcumin. Using 475 nm blue light, bacterial reduction followed a biphasic effect with higher efficacy in S. capitis compared to E. coli K12. PVP–curcumin decreased recA expression but had limited effect regarding enhancing antibiotic treatment or impeding resistance development. PVP–curcumin demonstrated effectiveness as a photosensitizer against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria but did not modulate the bacterial SOS response.

Abstract Background Depression is a prevalent and severe disorder associated with considerable stigma. This stigma contributes to the suffering and impedes help seeking behaviour of those affected. Stigma can be influenced by causal beliefs about depression and personal contact with people suffering from depression. The aim of this study was to investigate (1) the associations between beliefs about the aetiology of depression and personal / perceived stigma, as well as (2) a possible moderating effect of personal contact with people with depression on these associations. Methods Stigma, causal beliefs, and contact with depression were assessed in a representative online survey among German adults (N = 5,000). Multiple regression analyses were performed with contact levels (unaffected vs. personally affected (diagnosed) vs. personally affected (undiagnosed) vs. affected by relatives with depression vs. persons who treat depression) and causal beliefs (biogenetic vs. psychosocial vs. lifestyle) as predictor variables for personal and perceived stigma as dependent variables. We present an analysis of atmospheric transport impact on estimating CO2 fluxes using two atmospheric inversion systems (CarboScope-Regional (CSR) and Lund University Modular Inversion Algorithm (LUMIA)) over Europe in 2018. The main focus of this study is to quantify the dominant drivers of spread amid CO2 estimates derived from atmospheric tracer inversions. The Lagrangian transport models STILT (Stochastic Time-Inverted Lagrangian Transport) and FLEXPART (FLEXible PARTicle) were used to assess the impact of mesoscale transport. The impact of lateral boundary conditions for CO2 was assessed by using two different estimates from the global inversion systems CarboScope (TM3) and TM5-4DVAR. CO2 estimates calculated with an ensemble of eight inversions differing in the regional and global transport models, as well as the inversion systems, show a relatively large spread for the annual fluxes, ranging between −0.72 and 0.20 PgC yr−1, which is larger than the a priori uncertainty of 0.47 PgC yr−1. The discrepancies in annual budget are primarily caused by differences in the mesoscale transport model (0.51 PgC yr−1), in comparison with 0.23 and 0.10 PgC yr−1 that resulted from the far-field contributions and the inversion systems, respectively. Additionally, varying the mesoscale transport caused large discrepancies in spatial and temporal patterns, while changing the lateral boundary conditions led to more homogeneous spatial and temporal impact. We further investigated the origin of the discrepancies between transport models. The meteorological forcing parameters (forecasts versus reanalysis obtained from ECMWF data products) used to drive the transport models are responsible for a small part of the differences in CO2 estimates, but the largest impact seems to come from the transport model schemes. Although a good convergence in the differences between the inversion systems was achieved by applying a strict protocol of using identical prior fluxes and atmospheric datasets, there was a non-negligible impact arising from applying a different inversion system. Specifically, the choice of prior error structure accounted for a large part of system-to-system differences.

BackgroundAttention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a highly prevalent childhood and adult behavioral disorder. Internet searches for ADHD information are rising, particularly for diagnosis and treatment. Despite effective ADHD treatments, research suggests that there are delays in seeking help for ADHD. Identifying ways to shorten delays is important for minimizing morbidity associated with ADHD. One way to shorten these delays is to improve internet health information resources. Research shows that parents of children with ADHD feel that much of the information available is technical and not tailored for their child’s needs and verbal instructions given by health care providers were too pharmacologically focused with limited information about how to manage and support ADHD symptoms in daily living. A majority of parents search the internet for general and pharmacological information for ADHD and prefer web-based resources for learning about ADHD, but web-based resources may be inaccurate and of low quality. Ensuring accurate information through the internet is an important step in assisting parents and adults in making informed decisions about the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD. ObjectiveAlthough a great deal of information regarding ADHD is available on the internet, some information is not based on scientific evidence or is difficult for stakeholders to understand. Determining gaps in access to accurate ADHD information and stakeholder interest in the type of information desired is important in improving patient engagement with the health care system, but minimal research addresses these needs. This study aims to determine the information needs and formatting needs of web-based content for adults with ADHD and parents of children with ADHD in order to improve user experience and engagement. MethodsThis was a 3-phase study consisting of in-depth phone interviews about experiences with ADHD and barriers searching for ADHD-related information, focus groups where participants were instructed to consider the pathways by which they made decisions using web-based resources, and observing participants interacting with a newly developed website tailored for adults with potential ADHD and caregivers of children who had or might have ADHD. Phase 1 individual interviews and phase 2 focus groups identified the needs of the ADHD stakeholders related to website content and format. Interview and focus group findings were used to develop a website. Phase 3 used think-aloud interviews to evaluate website usability to inform the tailoring of the website based on user feedback. ResultsInterviews and focus group findings revealed preferences for ADHD website information and content, website layout, and information sources. Themes included a preference for destigmatizing information about ADHD, information specific to patient demographics, and evidence-based information tailored to lay audiences. ConclusionsADHD stakeholders are specifically seeking positive information about ADHD presented in a user-friendly format.
