- Abstract
Resin-reinforced silver (Ag) sintering material is an effective and highly reliable solution for power electronics packaging. The hybrid material’s process parameters strongly influence its microstructure and pose a significant challenge in estimating its effective properties as a thin interconnect layer. This research demonstrates a novel 3D reconstruction methodology for the microstructural investigation of the resin-reinforced Ag sintering material from OverMolded Plastic (OMP) packages. Based on the reconstructed models with different sintering parameters (temperature and time), the fraction of Ag and Resin volume distribution, the connectivity of silver particles, and the tortuosity factors were estimated. A 99% connectivity of sintered Ag particles was achieved with various sintering conditions, such as 200°C for 2 hours, 200°C for 4 hours, and 250°C for 2 hours. However, coarsening of Ag particles was promoted when sintered at 250°C. Increasing the sintering time at 200°C had insignificant changes. The estimated tortuosity factor also indicated that sintering at 250°C provides the shortest heat transport path between the semiconductor die and the package substrate. In order to quantify the microstructural findings, the OMP packages’ thermal performance with different sintering conditions (temperature, time, and interconnect thickness) was experimentally assessed. Although the experimental measurements were less sensitive to the effective interface thermal resistances’, the measurement results show a good correlation with the microstructural analysis. Sintering the Resin-reinforced Ag sintering material at higher temperatures (250°C) seems to improve the package thermal performance, and increasing the sintering time at 200°C has a negligible effect., Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository 'You share, we take care!' - Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public., Electronic Components, Technology and Materials

- Abstract
Background: Early mobilisation (EM) is an intervention that may improve the outcome of critically ill patients. There is limited data on EM in COVID-19 patients and its use during the first pandemic wave. Methods: This is a pre-planned subanalysis of the ESICM UNITE-COVID, an international multicenter observational study involving critically ill COVID-19 patients in the ICU between February 15th and May 15th, 2020. We analysed variables associated with the initiation of EM (within 72 h of ICU admission) and explored the impact of EM on mortality, ICU and hospital length of stay, as well as discharge location. Statistical analyses were done using (generalised) linear mixed-effect models and ANOVAs. Results: Mobilisation data from 4190 patients from 280 ICUs in 45 countries were analysed. 1114 (26.6%) of these patients received mobilisation within 72 h after ICU admission; 3076 (73.4%) did not. In our analysis of factors associated with EM, mechanical ventilation at admission (OR 0.29; 95% CI 0.25, 0.35; p = 0.001), higher age (OR 0.99; 95% CI 0.98, 1.00; p ≤ 0.001), pre-existing asthma (OR 0.84; 95% CI 0.73, 0.98; p = 0.028), and pre-existing kidney disease (OR 0.84; 95% CI 0.71, 0.99; p = 0.036) were negatively associated with the initiation of EM. EM was associated with a higher chance of being discharged home (OR 1.31; 95% CI 1.08, 1.58; p = 0.007) but was not associated with length of stay in ICU (adj. difference 0.91 days; 95% CI − 0.47, 1.37, p = 0.34) and hospital (adj. difference 1.4 days; 95% CI − 0.62, 2.35, p = 0.24) or mortality (OR 0.88; 95% CI 0.7, 1.09, p = 0.24) when adjusted for covariates. Conclusions: Our findings demonstrate that a quarter of COVID-19 patients received EM. There was no association found between EM in COVID-19 patients' ICU and hospital length of stay or mortality. However, EM in COVID-19 patients was associated with increased odds of being discharged home rather than to a care facility. Trial registration ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT04

- Abstract
Group-level studies of the association between social media use and wellbeing in emerging adults have so far yielded mixed and inconsistent results. As a result, recent research has shifted focus towards assessing potential heterogeneity in social media use relationships in youth. In this preregistered study, we aimed to take previous efforts further by incorporating both subjective and objective data, and by including more specific measures of social media use such as how active emerging adults were on social media, and with whom they interacted. While data resolution issues interfered with some of our analyses, our findings suggest that there is heterogeneity in some but not all of the relationships between social media use and emerging adults' affective wellbeing.

- Abstract

The JRC‘s Centre for Advanced Studies (CAS) was created in 2016 to help improve and bridge the interface between science and policy in order to enhance the JRC‘s capacity to better inform and influence the regulatory frameworks needed to address the new and emerging societal challenges confronting the EU and our societies as a whole. By creating the conditions necessary for innovative and interdisciplinary research, as well as offering a creative and generative space in which ideas and knowledge in emerging thematic fields across different scientific and technological disciplines can thrive and flourish, CAS has become an incubator for formal inquiry, stimulating ideas and activities and providing the JRC with new insights, data projections and solutions for the increasingly complex medium and longterm challenges facing the EU, especially in the fields of demography, big data and digital transformation. Through the performance of advanced, cutting edge research, ranging from applied research to topics of a more academic character, all within a stimulating trans- and interdisciplinary environment, CAS allows external researchers and scientists to work together with the JRC to explore and exchange new ideas and knowledge on scientific research in emerging fields of strategic societal importance, which might otherwise fall outside the policy support activities undertaken by the JRC on behalf of the European Commission.

This volume presents the key outcomes and research findings of the Digitranscope research project of the European Commission Joint Research Centre. The project set out to explore during the period 2017-2020 the challenges and opportunities that the digital transformation is posing to the governance of society. We focused our attention on the governance of data as a key aspect to understand and shape the governance of society. Data is a key resource in the digital economy, and control over the way it is generated, collected, aggregated, and value is extracted and distributed in society is crucial. We have explored the increasing awareness about the strategic importance of data and emerging governance models to distribute the value generated more equitably in society. These findings have contributed to the new policy orientation in Europe on technological and data sovereignty and the sharing of data for the public interest. The digital transformation, the rise of artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things offer also new opportunities for new forms of policy design, implementation, and assessment providing more personalised support to those who need it and being more participative throughout the policy cycle. The use of digital twins, gaming, simulation, and synthetic data are just at their beginning but promise to change radically the relationships among all the stakeholders in governance of our society.

- Abstract
Contains fulltext : 235989.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access), Concerns regarding smartphones' and social media's impact on youth remain high amidst a growing realization that current research is not designed to confirm (or refute) such concerns. This study aims to answer fundamental questions regarding youths' use of smartphones, by implementing a novel user-centric research method. The smartphone use of 114 emerging adults was recorded, followed by in-depth interviews that incorporated the recording and in-app information to help participants recall their behaviours, motivations, and feelings. Results indicate that smartphone use is indeed ubiquitous; 88 out of 114 participants started using their smartphone as soon as they were left alone. However, the findings of this study also demonstrate great diversity in smartphone use, in e.g. social media platforms used and motivations for using different apps. These results illustrate that it no longer seems sensible to refer to "screen time" as if it represents a homogeneous phenomenon across youth. Additionally, preliminary indications have been found of relationships between individual differences in mental health indices and variations in smartphone use. The current study provides new insights into youths’ smartphone use and its relationship with wellbeing.

- Abstract
Contains fulltext : 234354.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access), Digital screens have become an integral part of everyday life. In the wake of the digital swell, pre-adolescents and their parents are learning to navigate seemingly new terrain regarding digital media use. The present study aimed to investigate parent and pre-adolescent perceptions of screen use and the source of conflict surrounding digital media. We employed a qualitative thematic analysis of 200 parent and pre-adolescent dyads discussing screen use. Our analysis showed five overarching themes for screen use perceptions and conflict: screen time, effects of screen use, balance, rules, and reasons for screen use. In contrast to previous studies that mainly focused on parental perceptions, we were also able to shed light on pre-adolescent perceptions of screen use and the difference in opinions with their parents. Furthermore, we found that patterns of the source of screen use conflict were oftentimes rooted in the age-old developmental tug of war between autonomy-seeking pre-adolescents and authority-seeking parents. Though navigating autonomy-granting and seeking behavior is familiar to developmental scientists, negotiating these challenges in a new digital world is unfamiliar. Autonomy support, open dialogue, and playful interaction between parents and children are needed to understand and resolve conflict of digital media use in family contexts

- Abstract
Item does not contain fulltext, Objective: Smoking is a major cause of worldwide morbidity and mortality. Evidence-based intervention programs to help young adults quit smoking are largely lacking; identifying targets for intervention is therefore critical. A candidate target is inhibitory control, with previous studies on Go/No-Go trainings showing behavior change in the food and alcohol domain. The current study examined the mechanisms of change of HitnRun, a Go/No-Go game, in a smoking population that was motivated to quit. Method: A 2-armed experimental study (n = 106) was conducted and young adults (Mage = 22.15; SDage = 2.59) were randomly assigned to either play HitnRun or to read a psychoeducational brochure. Prior to and directly following the intervention period, smoking-specific and general inhibitory control, perceived attractiveness of smoking pictures, and weekly smoking behavior were assessed. Results: Results indicated that Go/No-Go training seems to decrease evaluations of smoking stimuli rather than top-down smoking-specific and general control processes. Similar reductions for weekly smoking were found in both groups. Conclusions: Go/No-Go training did not differentially influence smoking-specific inhibitory control, general inhibitory control and weekly smoking behavior. Go/No-Go training might be able to decrease evaluations of smoking stimuli, yet based on the current study we cannot rule out the possibility of regression to the mean. More research and iterative design is needed to better understand the potential role of Go/No-Go training in smoking cessation interventions, as well as exploring other evidence-based mechanisms (e.g., peer processes, self-efficacy) that might be an important addition to smoking cessation interventions for young people.

Indexación: Scopus. In view of the rapid expansion of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) throughout the planet, this article presents a set of proposals developed by Latin American psychologists who seek to address this phenomenon from a regional perspective. In this sense, topics such as the problem of overinformation and the impact of health protocols on mental health in different areas and sectors of the population are presented. It is proposed here, in addition to gathering some knowledge provided by previous research and disseminating a set of resources to mitigate or palliate the effects of the pandemic, to contribute with some reflections regarding the role of psychologists as health professionals in this critical situation, as well as to warn or appeal to the corresponding national and international organizations. https://journal.sipsych.org/index.php/IJP/article/view/1287

Yet, psychological scientists studying the mental health impact of digital experiences largely focus on correlations with "screen time," leading to oversimplified and atheoretical conclusions. We propose an alternative, functional approach to studying adolescent mental health in the digital age, one that examines why and how digital media affect adolescent development. Specifically, we suggest that understanding identity development - the core developmental task of adolescence - can help pinpoint the digital experiences that contribute to healthy versus problematic mental health outcomes. We have four objectives: (1) integrate principles from clinical and personality psychology with developmental theory to present a theoretical framework for investigating narrative identity; (2) show how this framework provides a useful lens for evaluating the impact of digital media on adolescents; (3) suggest a set of novel hypotheses that specify what kinds of digital contexts and experiences lead to healthy versus problematic mental health outcomes; and (4) propose a detailed research agenda that tests these hypotheses.

Contains fulltext : 226381.pdf (publisher's version ) (Open Access), The current response article began by situating this journal volume in the current COVID-19 pandemic context which has driven young people into digital spaces for far longer periods of time than ever. Many scholars, policy makers, and the public at large are recognizing that these social digital spaces may be the only outlet by which youth and their families can remain safe (at least physically), while also participating in some important social outlets. We discussed the notion of hybrid reality and argued that young people themselves often do not experience their digital and physical contexts as functionally distinct, despite there being good scientific reasons for examining these contexts separately. We then considered whether or not digital activity (at least some) should be considered pathological or inherently unhealthy for young people. Like most of the commentators, we advocated for a nuanced approach and emphasized the importance of a functional, developmental lens. In the second half of our response, we turned to the narrative identity framework itself and clarified misconceptions about what we considered novel about our approach. We found it particularly useful to explain why self-determination theory can be regarded as a constituent of the identity development framework, but that it does not subsume it. We moved on to discuss how the new insights provided by the commentators could be synthesized and suggested directions for new research studies and methodologies. Finally, we ended with an examination of how a more elaborated narrative identity framework offers specific directions for designing new digital interventions for promoting young people’s mental health and wellbeing. It is our hope that the target article with its detailed articulation of the narrative identity framework, together with the thoughtful commentaries and this response, can together inform future research, practice, and policy relevant to digital activity and its impact on young peopl

Radboud University, 30 januari 2020, Promotor : Granic, I. Co-promotor : Luijten, M., Contains fulltext : 214860.pdf (publisher's version ) (Open Access), In her PhD thesis, Hanneke Scholten designed and tested the game HitnRun to help youth quit smoking. A combined theory-driven and engagement-driven approach was taken aiming to design an experience that youth could authentically connect and engage with. In contrast to our expectations, participants in both the HitnRun and brochure group showed equal improvements in smoking behavior over time. Yet, participants who played HitnRun for a longer period of time also showed lower weekly smoking levels than participants who played HitnRun for a shorter period of time. The effects of HitnRun shows most promise for youth who connected with and were engaged by the game. Our promising findings are highly important given the current paucity of evidence-based interventions. In the future we need to work towards a "pull" instead of "push" model which will honor youths' autonomy, and give them the opportunity to choose the tools that have actual value to them.

- Abstract
Geodesign is a framework that brings together design professionals, information technologies, geographical sciences and people of the place to address local problems through spatial planning. By involving people from all different disciplines, different levels of knowledge and familiarity with geospatial data or design tools are a reality that needs to be addressed. This module teaches students to identify the different stakeholders and to assess their level of knowledge. After this, it teaches the students what types of data, software and interactions can be applied to allow each stakeholder to partake in the planning process. The current paper summarizes the learning objectives, lesson content, learning activities and evaluation scheme for this module.

- Abstract
Contains fulltext : 199915.pdf (publisher's version ) (Open Access), Numerous reviews and meta-analyses have indicated the enormous potential of technology to improve the appeal, effectiveness, cost, and reach of mental health interventions. However, the promise of digital mental health interventions for youth has not yet been realized. Significant challenges have been repeatedly identified, including engagement, fidelity, and the lack of personalization. We introduce the main tenets of design thinking and explain how they can specifically address these challenges, with an entirely new toolbox of mindsets and practices. In addition, we provide examples of a new wave of digital interventions to demonstrate the applicability of design thinking to a wide range of intervention goals. In the future, it will be critical for scientists and clinicians to implement their scientific standards, methods, and review outlets to evaluate the contribution of design thinking to the next iteration of digital mental health interventions for youth.

- Abstract
Contains fulltext : 212485.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access), Smoking is a major cause of worldwide morbidity and mortality. Almost no evidence-based intervention programs are available to help youth quit smoking. We argue that ineffective targeting of peer influence and engagement difficulties are significant barriers to successful youth smoking cessation. To address these barriers, we developed the mobile game intervention HitnRun. A two-armed randomized controlled trial (RCT; n = 144) was conducted and young smokers (Mage = 19.39; SDage = 2.52) were randomly assigned to either play HitnRun or read a psychoeducational brochure. Prior to, directly following the intervention period, and after three-month follow-up, weekly smoking behavior, abstinence rates, intervention dose, and peer- and engagement-related factors were assessed. Results indicated similar reductions in weekly smoking levels and similar abstinence rates for both groups. Yet, we found a dose effect with HitnRun only: The longer participants played HitnRun, the lower their weekly smoking levels were. In the brochure group, a higher dose was related to higher weekly smoking levels at all measurement moments. Exploratory analyses showed the most powerful effects of HitnRun for participants who connected with and were engaged by the intervention. Future work should build on the promising potential of HitnRun by increasing personalization efforts and strengthening peer influence components.

- Abstract
Contains fulltext : 209839.pdf (publisher's version ) (Open Access), In everyday decision-making, individuals make trade-offs between short-term and long-term benefits or costs. Depending on many factors, individuals may choose to wait for larger delayed reward, yet in other situations they may prefer the smaller, immediate reward. In addition to within-subject variation in the short-term versus long-term reward trade-off, there are also interindividual differences in delay discounting (DD), which have been shown to be quite stable. The extent to which individuals discount the value of delayed rewards turns out to be associated with important health and disorder-related outcomes: the more discounting, the more unhealthy or problematic choices. This has led to the hypothesis that DD can be conceptualized as trans-disease process. The current systematic review presents an overview of behavioral trainings and manipulations that have been developed to reduce DD in human participants aged 12 years or older. Manipulation studies mostly contain one session and measure DD directly after the manipulation. Training studies add a multiple session training component that is not per se related to DD, in between two DD task measurements. Ninety-eight studies (151 experiments) were identified that tested behavioral trainings and manipulations to decrease DD. Overall, results indicated that DD can be decreased, showing that DD is profoundly context dependent and changeable. Most promising avenues to pursue in future research seem to be acceptance-based/mindfulness-based trainings, and even more so manipulations involving a future orientation. Limitations and recommendations are discussed to identify the mechanistic processes that allow for changes in discount rate and behavior accordingly.

- Abstract
Contains fulltext : 203460.pdf (publisher's version ) (Open Access), Objective: Smoking is one of the leading public health problems worldwide. The inability to quit smoking may be the result of the amplified value of smoking-related cues and inhibitory control deficits. Previous research has shown that pairing substance-related cues with no-go trials in go/no-go training reduces the value of these cues, an effect known as devaluation. The current experiment investigated the devaluation effect of go/no-go training on smoking-related cues, and compared this effect between smokers and nonsmokers. Design and Main Outcome Measures: 39 smokers and 43 nonsmokers were trained to respond immediately to neutral stimuli, but inhibit their reaction when smoking stimuli were presented. Before and after training, participants evaluated smoking and neutral stimuli, where part of these stimuli were subsequently presented in the training, and the other part was not used in training. Results: Not responding to smoking stimuli in go/no-go training decreased subsequent evaluations of trained smoking stimuli compared to untrained smoking stimuli, thereby replicating food and alcohol studies and extending the devaluation effect to smoking-related cues. This devaluation effect was found for both smokers and non-smokers. Conclusion: Smoking-related cues can be devaluated in smokers and non-smokers, thereby showing the potential for Go/No-Go training in smoking cessation interventions.

- Abstract
In recent years, there has been a growing interest from the digital humanities in knowledge graphs as data modelling paradigm. Already, this has led to the creation of many such knowledge graphs, many of which are now available as part of the Linked Open Data cloud. This presents new opportunities for data mining. In this work, we develop, implement, and evaluate (both data-driven and user-driven) an end-to-end pipeline for user-centric pattern mining on knowledge graphs in the humanities. This pipeline combines constrained generalized association rule mining with natural language output and facet rule browsing to allow for transparency and interpretability—two key domain requirements. Experiments in the archaeological domain show that domain experts were positively surprised by the range of patterns that were discovered and were overall optimistic about the future potential of this approach.
