Objective: To analyze the sociodemographic profile and highlight factors associated with nurses' search for training in auriculotherapy., Method: This is a cross-sectional study, with national scope, with 1,154 nurses. The data was collected digitally from June 2021 to January 2022 through a sociodemographic and training characterization questionnaire. Variables were assessed by descriptive and inferential statistics., Results: 301 participants reported having training in auriculotherapy, the majority being women (88.96%), between 40 and 46 years old (26.86%), white (73.67%), born (48.83%) and working (48.16%) in the South region. The majority of nurses who have training in auriculotherapy (63.12%) did not specialize in acupuncture., Conclusion: Nurses' professional practice in auriculotherapy is carried out by professionals who have training in professional qualification courses, a fact that is supported by the regulations of public policy and the professional council. Age was a factor associated with the search for training in auriculotherapy, i.e., as nurses age, especially young adults, there is a greater tendency to seek this practice.

Diabetes mellitus is associated with chronic wound-healing problems that significantly impact patients' quality of life and substantially increase expenditure on healthcare. Therefore, the identification of compounds that can aid healing is justified. Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) has been used in folk medicine for curative purposes; however, the causal mechanisms underlying its healing effects remain to be elucidated. In this study, the effect of the ethanolic extract of A. cordifolia was evaluated in an in vitro healing model using fibroblasts cultivated under normoglycemic and hyperglycemic environments. The extract was predominantly composed of phytol and exhibited genoprotective activity. Fibroblast migration attenuated the adverse effects of hyperglycemia, favoring cell proliferation. Collagen levels were significantly increased in ruptured fibroblasts under both standard and hyperglycemic environments. The phytogenomic effect of the extract on three genes related to extracellular matrix formation, maintenance, and degradation showed that A. cordifolia increased the expression of genes related to matrix synthesis and maintenance in both normoglycemic and hyperglycemic individuals. Furthermore, it reduced the expression of genes related to matrix degradation. Overall, this is the first study to demonstrate the effectiveness of A. cordifolia in wound healing, elucidating possible causal mechanisms that appear to be based on the genoprotective effect of this plant on the migratory and proliferative phases of the wound healing process; these effects are probably related to phytol, its main constituent., Competing Interests: The authors declare no potential conflicts of interest concerning the research, authorship, and/or publication of this article., (Copyright © 2024 Elisa Vanessa Heisler et al.)

Objective: to understand the meaning attributed by men to the experience of caring for their family member with cancer and to develop a substantive theory that represents the experience of men caring for their family member with cancer., Method: this is qualitative research guided by the methodological framework of Grounded Theory and the precepts of Symbolic Interactionism. A form with identification and interview data was used. The analysis followed the substantive and theoretical coding stages., Results: 12 male caregivers of their family member with cancer participated. The constant comparative analysis of the data allowed the creation of a substantive theory "Experiencing the care of a family member with cancer: men as a caregivers" explaining the experience that has as its central category "The love that drives care", representing the symbolic actions and attitudes of men living in the context of illness due to cancer and care., Conclusion: the theory allowed us to understand feelings, perceptions, ways of acting and facing the diagnosis, providing care, recognizing difficulties and learning from the situations that arise, making explicit the interactional processes and symbolic elements present and how these influence male caregivers in their actions and attitudes., Background: (1) For men, caring is a choice (2) Taking care symbolizes a way of expressing love and reciprocation. (3) Love in caring is strengthened by reciprocity, commitment, gratitude and zeal. (4) To provide care, man reorganizes himself and adjusts to the conditions that present themselves (5) Male caregivers need to be heard and included in the actions of health teams.

to analyze the profile of nurses regarding integrative and complementary practices in health (ICPH) and understand how they are used in the care of people with arterial hypertension. mixed-methods sequential explanatory design. The cross-sectional quantitative stage included 386 nurses who completed an online questionnaire addressing sociodemographic and professional information, training, and practice, with a descriptive and inferential analysis. The qualitative stage was performed via 18 online interviews with professionals who had ICPH training and implemented it in the care provided to individuals with hypertension, with a participatory analysis. Integration occurred through a connecting approach. 36.8% had ICPH training; most were women, Caucasian, married, public servants, aged 37 (+ 9.4) on average; 14.2% incorporated ICPH into the care provided to people with hypertension; predominantly auriculotherapy (28.2%) and bloodletting in hypertensive crises. The results show that nurses integrally approached patients, and their approach was not limited to the vital sign altered at the time, but they also intervened in anxiety, stress, sleep, and rest. A potentiality observed concerns support treatment adherence. the profile of nurses with ICPH training is presented, and such practice has implications for lowering blood pressure. ICPH has been incorporated into the care of people with hypertension, but its use is still incipient, considering its potential in nursing care.

Objective: to understand how health communication in the care of children with chronic conditions interferes with inter-professional collaboration., Method: a multicentric qualitative research. Data collection, carried out through interviews and observation, occurred from October 2017 to February 2018. For data organization, the NVivo software, version 12, was used. These data were analyzed from a dialectical perspective., Results: a total of 79 professionals were interviewed, including physicians and nurses in the Family Health Strategy. Essential markers for inter-professionality stand out, such as multi-institutional communication; the historical and political context of the municipalities; the bond between staff and families with children with chronic conditions; and active and purposeful communication., Conclusion: inter-professional collaboration is strengthened when the therapeutic plan of the child with a chronic condition is coordinated by the Family Health Strategy, plus the intention of communicating with the secondary sector. It is considered that the research included important issues, contributing to planning the work process in the Family Health Strategy.

Objective: to describe the therapeutic itinerary of elderly people with diabetes mellitus registered at Family Health Strategy units., Methods: qualitative and descriptive study carried out with 15 elderly people with diabetes mellitus between February and April 2019 by applying semi-structured interviews with the participants. Data were submitted to analysis of Minayo's operational proposal., Results: in the folk care subsystem, the use of medicinal herbs, healers, and faith was emphasized by the participants. In the professional care subsystem, Family Health Strategy units were the services with the strongest bond to elderly people, but these patients still had to resort to the private healthcare network. Family proved to be the main source of support in the popular care subsystem., Final Considerations: nursing must acknowledge the different types of knowledge, coping strategies, beliefs, and the culture of elderly people with diabetes mellitus to guarantee the delivery of comprehensive care.

Objective: to know the prevalence of occupational accidents in children and youth who work with their families in the rural environment and to identify the associated factors., Method: exploratory, descriptive and analytical study with quantitative approach, developed in three rural areas. Participants were 211 children and young people who assisted the family in rural work. Data collection was performed using a semi-structured questionnaire. Bivariate analysis was performed using Pearson's chi-square, Fisher's exact, Student's t and Mann-Whitney tests and multivariate analysis using Poisson regression., Results: the prevalence of self-reported occupational accidents was 55%. It was highlighted: insect bites (44%), burns (40.5%), falls (27.6%), injury with a working tool (16.4%), electric shock (15.5 %), burn by animal (8.6%), animal bite (6.9%) and pesticide poisoning (2.6%). These were related to shared housing, leisure activity - riding a motorcycle, product resulting from lettuce cultivation and use of personal protective equipment., Conclusion: it is believed that these findings may enhance the development of public policies aimed at preserving the health of these children and young people, regulate working conditions and reduce occupational risks in the rural environment.

Objective: to describe our experience with a methodology for teaching nursing consultation in support of people with diabetes mellitus at a Family Health Unit., Method: experience report with four moments-submission of the proposal to the team; theorizing; nursing care for people with diabetes mellitus at home and at the health unit, and evaluation of learning., Results: the pedagogical process favored the integration between service and users, contributed to implement and apply the nursing process and strengthened professional training, based on the epidemiological profile of chronic diseases and its implications for nursing in primary care., Final Considerations: the active methodology discussed here allowed for a resignification of knowledge and a qualification of nursing care, demonstrating to be an important instrument for integrating clinical practice and epidemiology in accordance to experienced reality.

The objectives of the present study were to classify the cardiovascular evaluation of rural workers through the Global Risk Score and analyze the intensity of the relationship between the classification and the variables of the score. A descriptive study was developed with 38 rural workers from the extreme southern Brazil. Data collection was performed through an interview and verification of anthropometric measurements and arterial blood pressure. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially using the Spearman correlation test. The overall 10-year cardiovascular risk classification using the Framingham global score showed a predominance of low risk ( n = 22; 57.9%); however, 11 rural workers (28.9%) had a high cardiovascular risk. Spearman's correlation analysis showed significance between the Global Risk Score and gender (rho = 0.623, p ≤ 0.001), age (rho = 0.783, p ≤ 0.001), systolic blood pressure (rho = 0.545, p ≤ 0.001), and smoking (rho = 0.483, p = 0.002). These results show that rural workers need attention with regard to components that may put them at risk for cardiovascular disease. This study may help in the early diagnosis and more effective actions on the risk factors for cardiovascular disease.

Objective: To be aware of the care rituals developed by families when preparing for home birth during the gestational process., Method: Qualitative and ethnographic research developed with families during the gestational process. We adopted the observation-participation-reflection model, and the analysis was performed according to ethnonursing., Results: Care rituals are related to the choice of home as a place for childbirth, being characterized as a family's rite of separation to experience this process. Other care rituals involved the preparation of the family and the eldest child as well as the home, the body, and the mind of the pregnant woman, and the choice of destination of the placenta., Final Considerations: We must understand the birth process beyond the biological perspective, considering women and their family as a whole, within a cultural context with their beliefs and values.

Objective: compare the quality of different types of health care for children and adolescents with HIV, in the experience of family members and caregivers., Method: a cross-sectional study was conducted with 71 family members and caregivers, using the children's version of the Primary Care Assessment Tool (PCATool-Brazil). The Mann-Whitney or Student's t-test and Pearson's chi-square or Fisher's exact test were used for the analysis., Results: primary care services and, predominantly, specialized HIV services, were identified as the regular health care sources. There were no significant differences in quality, since their scores were close to the ideal level., Conclusion: the attributes of these services need to be improved, which would entail reformulating their structural and performance aspects. In addition, it is imperative to recognize primary health care as an integral place for promoting the health of children and adolescents with HIV.

The aim of this study was to identify the influence of social networks in the therapeutic itinerary of people affected by venous ulcers. Qualititative research was conducted in the outpatient clinic of a public hospital in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Data were collected from January to February 2013 by means of semi-structured interviews with 14 people affected by venous ulcers. Content analysis provided the following categories: The family worries with me; I get lots of help from friends and neighbours, and I do it myself. Results revealed some elements of social networks that influence choices and continuity of treatment and care of patient with venous ulcers. It is therefore necessary for nurses to familiarize themselves with these social networks and work with them to strengthen the partnership in care.

The aim of this research is to describe factors that may influence the constitution of social networks and participation in a community referenced to a Family Health Care Unit, located in a medium-sized city in the South of Brazil. It is a qualitative research developed with key informants, community members, community health agents and other health team personnel. The method used was rapid participative assessment, through semi-structured interviews and field observation. Content analysis was used and two categories emerged: considerations about social networks and community participation. The first category presents factors related to social networks, such as family aggregation, socio-economic structure, alcoholism, among others. The second one presents community organization and the ways people participate in the community. Discussions and reflections presented in this paper enable to conclude that strategies to promote strengthening of bonds and greater mobilization for social participation may be developed.

This study had the aim to verify the necessities of training and improvement of the 4th Regional Coordination in Health of Rio Grande do Sul State family health teams. The data collection was carried out through the application of questionnaires with objective questions, composed by two parts: field and competence nucleus. For data analyses, Normality, Chi-Square and G tests were used as statistical procedures for Easy and Difficult attributions indicated by the professionals. Professionals have shown less difficulty with generic attributions, related with basic methods and techniques of each health area. However, they have revealed a lot of difficulties with attributions relating to the search of new partners in health inside communities, stimulation of the people participation in the discussion of health rights, and completion of the SIA/SIAB forms, and others. Even after 12 years of the foundation of the Family Health Program (PSF), several difficulties are still observed concerning the way to work with this new health strategy in Brazil. Proposals are made for the complete understanding and improvement of the PSF strategy.

Reception procedures are one of the main guidelines concerning the health care production, even though the studies on this subject are focused upon primary health care. This paper aimed to understand the way reception is experienced by the companions of hospitalized patients and discuss their difficulties while accompanying the patients in a hospital environment. This is a qualitative study, conducted with 77 companions of patients hospitalized in a university hospital in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Data were collected through interviews and examined by the content analysis. According to the companions' perceptions, the reception procedure is associated to clarifying rules and routines, as well as meals delivery; the main difficulties were related to the physical structure and the noise in the hospital environment. A need for reconsidering the established models for health assistance is pointed, as well as the importance of improving health care practices based on light technology.

This study analyzes the work by a Family Health Program (FHP) team, identifying the potential for developing receptiveness by the team and fostering links between the health professionals and clients. This was a case study with a qualitative approach. The data were collected through free observation, a semi-structured interview, and documents. A dialectic approach was used to analyze the material. A relationship was observed between the organization of the work process and the achievement of receptiveness and links to clients. There are gaps in receptiveness to health services clients, especially in the openness to demand, accountability for the population's health problems, and encouragement for client autonomy. Production of links is related to the development of clinical activities. According to FHP team members, health services clients are viewed alternately as subjects and objects. The principles and guidelines of the Unified National Health System (SUS) do not represent a project as conceived by the health professionals. The study concludes by proposing greater nursing staff involvement in clinical activities and receptiveness to users of the program.
