Abstract

This document is the main high-level architecture specification of the SUNFISH cloud federation solution. Its main objective is to introduce the concept of Federation-as-a-Service (FaaS) and the SUNFISH platform. FaaS is the new and innovative cloud federation service proposed by the SUNFISH project. The document defines the functionalities of FaaS, its governance and precise objectives. With respect to these objectives, the document proposes the high-level architecture of the SUNFISH platform: the software architecture that permits realising a FaaS federation. More specifically, the document describes all the components forming the platform, the offered functionalities and their high-level interactions underlying the main FaaS functionalities. Abstract

Confidence in information and communication technology services and systems is crucial for the digital society which we live in, but this confidence is not possible without privacy-enhancing tools and technologies, nor without risks management frameworks that guarantee privacy, data protection, and secure digital identities. This paper provides information on ongoing and recent developments in this area in the European Union (EU) space. We start by providing an overview of EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and proceed by identifying challenges concerning GDPR implementation, either technical or organizational. For this, we consider the work currently being done by a set of EU projects on the H2020 DS-08-2017 topic, namely BPR4GDPR, DEFeND, SMOOTH, PDP4E, PAPAYA and PoSeID-on, which address and aim at providing specific, operational solutions for the identified challenges. We briefly present these solutions and discuss the ways in which the projects cooperate and complement each other. Finally, we identify guidelines for further research.

26. The Role of the Connective Reaction in the Development of Experimental Transplantable Tumours

Abstract

The development and invasive growth of Guérin T8 epithelioma were studied, from the 1st to the 30th day after transplantation. Our histological observations may be interpreted as follows: 1) the onset of tumour growth is dependent upon the ability of the tumour graft to evoke a continuous vascular proliferation; 2) the undifferentiated connective tissue, which develops around the tumour graft, represents a mechanical support and/or a suitable chemical environment for the vascular proliferation rather than for the malignant invasive growth; 3) the tumour growth will start only when the vascular proliferation reaches the border of the tumour graft and stimulates groups of viable tumour cells, dormant survivors of the largely necrotic tumour graft, to cell division and infiltration.

28. Umbilical endometriosis associated with umbilical hernia. Management of a rare occurrence.

Abstract

We report a rare case of primitive umbilical endometriosis associated with umbilical hernia, which required wide umbilical resection and immediate reconstruction performed according to a recently described technique. A wide resection of the peritoneal sac was performed because of the possible presence of endometrial tissue inside. The hernia was repaired according to Mayo's technique. Umbilical reconstruction was performed using two semicircular skin flaps shaped into in an ellipse preoperatively drawn on the skin with a vertical orientation. The surgical approach described in this report allowed easy hernia repair and umbilical reconstruction. No prosthesis was used because of the small size of the hernia and lack of literature data on prosthesis use in endometriosis. The aesthetic result was considered satisfactory 6 months after the operation because of absence of hypertrophic scars and in view of the anatomical aspect of the new umbilicus. No recurrence was observed within this time frame.
