While a model prediction is a probabilistic claim about a system state to transpire in the future, a model projection is an if-then statement about the potential future of a system, by definition subject to (changes in) boundary conditions with an unknown likelihood. Despite a robust body of literature on the various potential purposes of models - and to predict is only one of these purposes - some modellers tend to refer to all their model outputs as predictions, while they are more often projections or neither of these two. Both geosimulation and spatial machine learning scholars are careless in how they refer to their model outputs. This is confusing for all involved and especially for the general public, for whom the model output is usually the only model component they get to see. In this paper we provide definitions, justifications, and a decision tree for classifying model outputs. This can help the GIScience community to gain clarity about what their model output entails.

Background: Sprengel’s Deformity (SD) is a rare condition of the shoulder girdle, appearing as the principal congenital anomaly of the shoulder in paediatric patients. The aim of this study is to document the combined experience of two paediatric orthopaedic departments in managing SD using the modified Green Procedure, with a specific emphasis on the clinical and functional outcomes reported by patients; Methods: from June 2010 to February 2023, 42 shoulders in 40 paediatric patients were surgically treated for SD at two paediatric orthopaedic departments. All patients were treated using the modified Green Procedure with or without clavicle osteotomy. To better evaluate the deformity, the Cavendish’s classification for aesthetic appearance and the Rigault’s classification for radiological aspect were used, while movements of abduction and flexion were quantified to assess shoulder mobility. Several dedicated questionnaires such as QuickDASH, the Shoulder Pain Index and the Shoulder Disability Index (SPADI) and finally the UCLA Shoulder Scale were submitted to assess the quality of life of the subjects and the ability to practice certain activities, including work and sports. Complications were evaluated according to the modified Clavien–Dindo–Sink classification; Results: The mean follow-up was 5 years (range, 1.0–13.6). Clavicular osteotomy, performed in 15 patients, improved post-operative abduction by a mean of 25° (95% CI: 11–39°; p = 0.001). Three patients had complications (7.1%), with two requiring re-operation. At follow-up, 67.5% of patients had a qDASH score < 7, highlighting excellent functional outcomes. Shoulder function showed moderate correlation with pre- and post-operative flexion. The SPADI and UCLASS scores indicated significant improvement, with 70.0% reporting high satisfaction. Factors like sex, associated anomalies, and surgical technique did not impact patient-reported outcomes or satisfaction; Conclusions: The modified Green’s technique has proven to be a safe procedure with a low rate of complications and satisfactory clinical and functional patient-reported outcomes.

Objective The European Health Data Space (EHDS) shapes the digital transformation of healthcare in Europe. The EHDS regulation will also accelerate the use of health data for research, innovation, policy-making, and regulatory activities for secondary use of data (known as EHDS2). The Integration of heterogeneous Data and Evidence towards Regulatory and HTA Acceptance (IDERHA) project builds one of the first pan-European health data spaces in alignment with the EHDS2 requirements, addressing lung cancer as a pilot. Methods In this study, we conducted a comprehensive review of the EHDS regulation, technical requirements for EHDS2, and related projects. We also explored the results of the Joint Action Towards the European Health Data Space (TEHDAS) to identify the framework of IDERHA’s alignment with EHDS2. We also conducted an internal webinar and an external workshop with EHDS experts to share expertise on the EHDS requirements and challenges. Results We identified the lessons learned from the existing projects and the minimum-set of requirements for aligning IDERHA infrastructure with EHDS2, including user journey, concepts, terminologies, and standards. The IDERHA framework (i.e., platform architecture, standardization approaches, documentation, etc.) is being developed accordingly. Discussion The IDERHA's alignment plan with EHDS2 necessitates the implementation of three categories of standardization for: data discoverability: Data Catalog Vocabulary (DCAT-AP), enabling semantics interoperability: Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership (OMOP), and health data exchange (DICOM and FHIR). The main challenge is that some standards are still being refined, e.g., the extension of the DCAT-AP (HealthDCAT-AP). Additionally, extensions to the Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI) OMOP Common Data Model (CDM) to represent the patient-generated health data are still needed. Finally, proper mapping between standards (FHIR/OMOP) is a prerequisite for proper data exchange. Conclusions The IDERHA's plan and our collaboration with other EHDS initiatives/projects are critical in advancing the implementation of EHDS2.

Transformations are essential for dealing with geographic information. They are involved not only in the conversion between geodata formats and reference systems, but also in turning geodata into useful information according to some purpose. However, since a transformation can be implemented in various formats and tools, its function and purpose usually remains hidden underneath the technicalities of a workflow. To automate geographic information procedures, we therefore need to model the transformations implemented by workflows on a conceptual level, as a form of procedural knowledge. Although core concepts of spatial information provide a useful level of description in this respect, we currently lack a model for the space of possible transformations between such concepts. In this article, we present the algebra of core concept transformations (CCT). It consists of a type hierarchy which models core concepts as relation types, and a set of basic transformations described in terms of function signatures that use such types. We enrich GIS workflows with abstract machine-readable metadata, by compiling algebraic tool descriptions and inferring goal concepts across a workflow. In this article, we show how such procedural metadata can be used to retrieve workflows based on task descriptions derived from geo-analytical questions. Transformations can be queried independently from their implementations or data formats.

Protocol AML-MM-2000 treatment results of unfavorable prognostic group in children with primary acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in Russia and Belarus are presented. 105 children at the age from 2 weeks till 18 years (a median age — 10.8 years) are included in the study. In 91 patients (86.7%) hematological remission have reached, from them 34 patients (37.4%) are in the first continuous complete remission (CCR). 6-years overall survival (OS), event-free survival (EFS) and relapse-free survival (RFS) rate for all group of patients was 0.35 ±} 0.05; 0.32 ±} 0.04 and 0.43 ±} 0.05, respectively. Survival analysis of children with different cytogenetic anomalies has allowed to define two prognostic groups of patients: the intermediate prognosis, including patients with normal kariotype and t(9;11) which EFS and RFS rate was 40—50%, and unfavorable prognosis with EFS and RFS rate less than 40%. The efficiency analysis of three postremission therapy type (allogeneic and autological hematopoietic stem cells transplantation (HSCT) and chemotherapy (HT)) in intermediate and unfavorable prognostis groups was carried out. High efficiency of related HLA-identical HSCT in patients both intermediate and unfavorable prognostis groups have been shown. Autological HSCT is possible in intermediate prognosis patients with absence of HLA-identical siblings and in unfavorable prognosis patients with absence of HLA-identical unrelated donor.

In the current scenario, a decline in the natural deposits of copper and its alloys has called for the efficient usage of bronze in mechanical components. The development of additive manufacturing processes such as Directed Energy Deposition (DED) provides an opportunity to address this issue by replacing complete bronze components such as worm wheels with parts made of less critical raw materials and provided with bronze coatings on the wear-active interfaces. Therefore, this current work focuses on evaluating the deposition of CuSn10 on a steel substrate using DED. Four types of specimens are manufactured, three having deposition of CuSn10 on the steel substrate and one specimen having an initial deposition of CuSn10 + 316L mixture followed by CuSn10. The laser power for the deposition process was varied through the thickness of the deposition with values varying between a minimum of 600 W to a maximum of 1100 W. The specimens were subjected to wear testing under dry conditions to evaluate their friction behavior and to check for debonding between the substrate and deposition. The effect of different laser power on porosity, microstructure, and microhardness was evaluated. The results, when compared with wrought CuSn10, indicated that the DED CuSn10 can be a probable replacement for wrought CuSn10 in worm wheels.

Conflictual relations between language groups make Belgium a fruitful ground to study the interplay between historical knowledge, importance, collective memory and social identity related to historical events. This study compared German-speaking and French-speaking Belgians on the these dimensions for a historical event for which contrasted responses were expected, the centenary of Armistice on 11 November 2018. We also focused on generational differences by comparing senior, intermediate, and junior age cohorts. Results showed no generational differences but revealed that German-speakers construct their social identity differently than French-speakers. Namely, German-speaking Belgians integrated political with non-political events in their collective memory and relied more on school as source of knowledge and nationally relevant memories. In contrast, French-speaking Belgians relied on family and friends as source of knowledge, intertwined more personally and nationally relevant memories, and showed a strong association of national identity with the importance attributed to World War I.
