The existence of hidden sectors weakly coupled to the visible one has been extensively studied as a way to extend the Standard Model (SM) and to provide a good dark matter candidate. In this work we analyze two models in which gauge and scalar hidden fields interact with the visible sector which, for simplicity we take as an Abelian Higgs model. In one of them, the hidden sector consists of an uncharged scalar. The connection with the visible Abelian Higgs sector is in this case provided by the interaction between the scalars in the two sectors and also by the coupling between the hidden scalar and the visible squared field strength. This model can be seen as an extension of previously studied ones both in high energy and in condensed matter physics and the solutions that we find indicate that it could be relevant in connection to establishing the dark matter relic density. In the second model, both sectors correspond to spontaneously broken gauge theories and hence they feature classical vortex solutions. Introducing three different portals between the two sectors, we analyze the dependence of the model dynamics on the portal parameters and discuss the physical implications in connection with dark matter and gravitational radiation issues., Comment: Matches the final version published in Int.J.Mod.Phys.A 37 (2022)

Working within the path-integral framework we first establish a duality between the partion functions of two $U(1)$ gauge theories with a theta term in $d=4$ space-time dimensions. Then, after a dimensional reduction to $d=3$ dimensions we arrive to the partition function of a $U(1)$ gauge theory coupled to a scalar field with an action that exhibits a Dirac monopole solution. A subsequent reduction to $d=2$ dimensions leads to the partition function of a theory in which the gauge field decouples from two scalars which have non-trivial vortex-like solutions. Finally this $d=2$ partition function can be related to the bosonized version of the two-dimensional QED$_2$ (Schwinger) model., Comment: 10 pages

We study a model in $d = 2 + 1$ space-time dimensions with two sectors. One of them, which can be considered as the visible sector, contains just a $U(1)$ gauge field which acts as a probe for the other (hidden) sector, given by a second $U(1)$ gauge field and massive scalar and Dirac fermions. Covariant derivatives of these matter fields and a BF gauge mixing term couple the two sectors. Integration over fermion fields leads to an effective theory with Chern-Simons terms that support vortex like solutions in both sectors even if originally there was no symmetry breaking Higgs scalar in the visible sector. We study numerically the solutions which correspond to electrically charged magnetic vortices except for a critical value of the BF coupling constant at which solely purely magnetic vortices exist.

We study a $U(1) \times U(1)$ gauge theory discussing its vortex solutions and supersymmetric extension. In our set-upon the dynamics of one of two Abelian gauge fields is governed by a Maxwell term, the other by a Chern-Simons term. The two sectors via a BF gauge field mixing and a Higgs portal term that connects the two complex scalars. We also consider the supersymmetric version of this system which allows to find for the bosonic sector BPS equations in which an additional real scalar field enters into play. In this paper we study the zero energy solutions of the Dirac equation in the background of a $Z_2$ vortex of a non-Abelian gauge model with three charged scalar fields. We determine the number of the fermionic zero modes giving their explicit form for two specific Ansatze., Comment: 12 pages

The magnetic order of the triangular lattice with antiferromagnetic interactions is described by an SO(3) field and allows for the presence of Z2 magnetic vortices as defects. In this work we show how these Z2 vortices can be fitted into a local SU(2) gauge theory. We propose simple Ansatzes for vortex configurations and calculate their energies using well-known results of the Abelian gauge model. We comment on how Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions could be derived from a non-Abelian gauge theory and speculate on their effect on non trivial configurations.

In this paper we study a $2+1$ dimensional system in which fermions are coupled to the self-dual topological vortex in $U(1) \times U(1)$ Chern-Simons theory, where both $U(1)$ gauge symmetries are spontaneously broken. We consider two Abelian Higgs scalars with visible and hidden sectors coupled to a fermionic field through three interaction Lagrangians, where one of them violates the fermion number. Using a fine tuning procedure, we could obtain the number of the fermionic zero modes which is equal to the absolute value of the sum of the vortex numbers in the visible and hidden sectors., Comment: 10 pages

We study vortex solutions in Abelian Chern-Simons-Higgs theories with visible and hidden sectors. We first consider the case in which the two sectors are connected through a BF-like gauge mixing term with no explicit interaction between the the two scalars. Since first order Bogomolny equations do not exist in this case, we derive the second order field equations. We then proceed to an ${\cal N}=2$ supersymmetric extension including a Higgs portal mixing among the visible and hidden charged scalars. As expected, Bogomolnyi equations do exist in this case and we study their string-like solutions numerically., Comment: 10 pages, 12 figures. Non-Abelian flux-tube (string) solutions carrying global currents are found in the bosonic sector of 4-dimensional N=2 super-symmetric gauge theories. The specific model considered here posseses U(2)local x SU(2)global symmetry, with two scalar doublets in the fundamental representation of SU(2). We construct string solutions that are stationary and translationally symmetric along the x3 direction, and they are characterized by a matrix phase between the two doublets, referred to as "twist". Consequently, twisted strings have nonzero (global) charge, momentum, and in some cases even angular momentum per unit length. The planar cross section of a twisted string corresponds to a rotationally symmetric, charged non-Abelian vortex, satisfying 1st order Bogomolny-type equations and 2nd order Gauss-constraints. Interestingly, depending on the nature of the matrix phase, some of these solutions even break rotational symmetry in R3. Although twisted vortices have higher energy than the untwisted ones, they are expected to be linearly stable since one can maintain their charge (or twist) fixed with respect to small perturbations., Comment: 18 pages, 5 figures

In this paper we study a system inspired on certain SUSY breaking models and on more recent Dark Matter scenarios. In our set-up, two Abelian gauge fields interact via an operator that mixes their kinetic terms. We find the extended Supersymmetric version of this system, that also generates a Higgs portal type of interaction. We obtain and study both analytically and numerically, the equations defining topologically stable string-like objects. We check our results using two different approaches. We study vortex solutions in a theory with dynamics governed by two weakly coupled Abelian Higgs models, describing a hidden sector and a visible sector. We analyze the radial dependence of the axially symmetric solutions constructed numerically and discuss the stability of vortex configurations for different values of the model parameters, studying in detail vortex decay into lower energy configurations. We find that even in a weak coupling regime vortex solutions strongly depend on the parameters of both the visible and hidden sectors. We establish a duality between massive fermions coupled to topologically massive gravity (TGM) in $d=3$ space-time dimensions and a purely gravity theory which also will turn out to be a TGM theory but with different parameters: the original graviton mass in the TGM theory coupled to fermions picks-up a contribution from fermion bosonization. We obtain explicit bosonization rules for the fermionic currents and for the energy-momentum-tensor showing that the identifications do not depend explicitly on the parameters of the theory. These results are the gravitational analog of the results for $2+1$ Abelian and non-Abelian bosonization in flat space-time., Comment: 8 pages

Taking as a probe an SU(2) gauge field with Yang-Mills action in a 3+1 dimensional Lifshitz black hole background, we use the gauge/gravity correspondence to discuss finite temperature effects in the dual theory defined on the boundary. In order to test the dependence of results on the anisotropic scaling exponent z we consider two analytical black hole solutions with z=2 and z=4. Apart from solving the equations of motion in the bulk using a numerical approach, we also apply an analytical approximation allowing the determination of the phase transition character, the critical exponent and the critical temperature behavior as a function of z., Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures

We present a gauged Lifshitz Lagrangian including second and forth order spatial derivatives of the scalar field and a Chern-Simons term, and study non-trivial solutions of the classical equations of motion. While the coefficient beta of the forth order term should be positive in order to guarantee positivity of the energy, the coefficient alpha of the quadratic one need not be. We investigate the parameter domains finding significant differences in the field behaviors. Apart from the usual vortex field behavior of the ordinary relativistic Chern-Simons-Higgs model, we find in certain parameter domains oscillatory solutions reminiscent of the modulated phases of Lifshitz systems., Comment: 13 pages, 6 figures

We consider the effects of higherloop corrections to a Schwinger--Dyson equations for propagators. This is made possible by the efficiency of the methods we developed in preceding works, still using the supersymmetric Wess--Zumino model as a laboratory. We obtain the dominant contributions of the three and four loop primitive divergences at high order in perturbation theory, without the need for their full evaluations. Our main conclusion is that the asymptotic behavior of the perturbative series of the renormalization function remains unchanged, and we conjecture that this will remain the case for all finite order corrections., Comment: 12 pages, 2 imbedded TiKZ pictures. We study a model whose dynamics is determined by a Maxwell Lagrangian coupled to a complex scalar and a Dirac fermion field, in an $AdS_3$ black hole background. Our study is performed within the context of the Euclidean formalism, in terms of an effective action $S^{eff}$ that results from integrating out the fermion field. In particular, $S^{eff}$ includes an induced parity breaking part which reduces, in the weak coupling limit, to Chern-Simons terms for both the gauge and spin connections, with temperature dependent coefficients. We find numerically the effective action minimum and, applying the AdS/CFT correspondence, we discuss the properties of the dual quantum field theory defined on the boundary. Focusing on the connection between the Landau theory of second order phase transitions and the holographic approach to critical phenomena, we study diverse field theories in an anti-de Sitter black hole background. Through simple analytical approximations, solutions to the equations of motion can be obtained in closed form which give rather good approximations of the results obtained using more involved numerical methods. We present a self-gravitating dyon solution of the Einstein-Yang-Mills-Higgs equations of motion in asymptotically AdS space. The back reaction of gauge and Higgs fields on the space-time geometry leads to the metric of an asymptotically AdS black hole. Using the gauge/gravity correspondence we analyze relevant properties of the finite temperature quantum field theory defined on the boundary. In particular we identify an order operator, characterize a phase transition of the dual theory on the border and also compute the expectation value of the finite temperature Wilson loop., Comment: 25 pages, 9 figures. We analize a model of non relativistic matter in 2+1 dimensional noncommutative space. The matter fields interact with gauge fields whose dynamics is dictated by a Chern Simons term. We discuss the generalization of the connection between the determinant of an operator entering a quadratic form and the associated Gaussian path-integral valid for grassmann variables to the paragrassmann case [$\theta^{p+1}=0$ with $p=1$ ($p>1$) for grassmann (paragrassamann) variables]. We show that the q-deformed commutation relations of the paragrassmann variables lead naturally to consider q-deformed quadratic forms related to multiparametric deformations of GL(n) and their corresponding $q$-determinants. We study static spherically symmetric monopole solutions in non-Abelian Einstein-Born-Infeld-Higgs model with normal trace structure. These monopoles are similar to the corresponding solution with symmetrised trace structure and are existing only up to some critical value of the strength of the gravitational interaction. We consider monopole and dyon classical solutions of the Yang-Mills-Higgs system coupled to gravity in asymptotically anti-de Sitter space. We discuss both singular and regular solutions to the second order equations of motion showing that singular Wu-Yang like dyons can be found, the resulting metric being of the Reissner-N\"ordstrom type (with cosmological constant). Concerning regular solutions, we analyze the conditions under which they can be constructed discussing, for vanishing coupling constant, the main distinctive features related to the anti-de Sitter asymptotic condition; in particular, we find in this case that the v.e.v. of the Higgs scalar, $|\vec H(\infty)|$, should be quantized in units of the natural mass scale $1/e r_0$ (related to the cosmological constant) according to $|\vec H(\infty)|^2 = m(m+1) (e r_0 )^{-2}$, with $m \in Z$., Comment: 14 pages, latex file, no figures

We compute vacuum expectation values of products of fermion bilinears for two-dimensional Quantum Chromodynamics at finite flavored fermion densities. We introduce the chemical potential as an external charge distribution within the path-integral approach and carefully analyse the contribution of different topological sectors to fermion correlators. We show the existence of chiral condensates exhibiting an oscillatory inhomogeneous behavior as a function of a chemical potential matrix. We discuss the connection between the construction of Bogomol'nyi bounds and equations in three dimensional gravitational theories and the existence of an underlying $N=2$ local supersymmetric structure. We show that, appart from matter self duality equations, a first order equation for the gravitational field (whose consistency condition gives the Einstein equation) can be written as a consequence of the local supersymmetry. Its solvability makes possible the evasion of the no-go scenario for the construction of Killing spinors in asymptotically conical spacetimes. In particular we show that the existence of non-trivial supercovariantly constant spinors is guaranteed whenever field configurations saturate the topological bound., Comment: 14 pages, latex, no figures

We discuss the behavior of theories of fermions coupled to Chern-Simons gauge fields with a non-abelian gauge group in three dimensions and at finite temperature. Using non-perturbative arguments and gauge invariance, and in contradiction with perturbative results, we show that the coefficient of the Chern-Simons term of the effective actions for the gauge fields at finite temperature can be {\it at most} an integer function of the temperature. This is in a sense a generalized no-renormalization theorem. We also discuss the case of abelian theories and give indications that a similar condition should hold there too. We discuss the $2+1$ dimensional Abelian Higgs model coupled to $N=2$ supergravity. We construct the supercharge algebra and, from it, we show that the mass of classical static solutions is bounded from below by the topological charge. As it happens in the global case, half of the supersymmetry is broken when the bound is attained and Bogomol'nyi equations, resulting from the unbroken supersymmetry, hold. We discuss bosonization in three dimensions of an $SU(N)$ massive Thirring model in the low-energy regime. We find that the bosonized theory is related (but not equal) to $SU(N)$ Yang-Mills-Chern-Simons gauge theory. The N=2 supersymmetric extension of the 2+1 dimensional Abelian Higgs model is discussed. By analysing the resulting supercharge algebra, the connection between supersymmetry and Bogomol'nyi equations is clarified. We use path-\-integral methods to derive the ground state wave functions of a number of two-\-dimensional fermion field theories and related systems in one-\-dimensional many body physics. We derive the exact wave function for the Thirring/Luttinger and Coset fermion models and apply our results to derive the universal behavior of the wave functions of the Heisenberg antiferromagnets and of the Sutherland model. We find explicit forms for the wave functions in the density and in the Grassmann representations. We show that these wave functions always have the Jastrow factorized form and calculated the exponent. Our results agree with the exponents derived from the Bethe Ansatz for the Sutherland model and the Haldane-\-Shastri spin chain but apply to all the systems in the same universality class., Comment: 42 pages.
