Abstract

International audience; A fast and general Partial Element Equivalent Circuit (PEEC) method based on the Fast-Fourier-Transform (FFT) is proposed for the first time. The numerical tool only requires common CAD data input files (e.g. .stl format), then the discretization process is performed automatically by means of a fast voxelization technique based on ray intersection, thus drastically reducing the human effort required to setup the model. The method allows for considering at the same time inductive and capacitive effects, and is focused on power electronics applications where propagation effects can be neglected, whereas all the other electromagnetic phenomena are considered. Specifically, the proposed method is particularly suited for problems where both electric and magnetic fields are equally important and therefore quasistatic approximations do not apply. An ad-hoc preconditioner which significantly speeds-up the solver is also proposed and, thanks to the FFT, both memory and computation time are significantly reduced, without the need of applying data compression. Both linear and non-linear materials are considered by the proposed FFT-PEEC method. Sample implementation of the method is made publicly available.

Abstract

With increasing frequency and power integration in many Power Electronics applications, interconnection modeling becomes of great importance. The aim of this paper is to present how to take into account an impedance step in an interconnection track (solder pad for instance) using PEEC method (Partial Element Equivalent Circuit). The better way to decompose the discontinuity is studied, according to the frequency of interest. Results are compared to measurements, carried on a printed circuit board (PCB) loop and to analytical resolution at low frequency.

Abstract

International audience; Today, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) seems to be one of the major constraints of power electronic converters, particularly for variable-speed drives. Unfortunately, it is too often regarded as the last phase of the development of a converter since it represents the last step of its marketing. The estimation of conducted and radiated disturbances by simulation offers a considerable gain from the economic point of view. This paper shows how relatively simple models can be used to forecast EMC, taking into account various control strategies. These models are validated on an experimental setup and can be used during the design of a variable-speed inverter motor association. The objective is to approach by "fast" simulations the conducted emission to consider optimization processes. It is then imperative to take into account the environment of the converter, which implies the modeling of cables, motors, and, naturally, the filters.
