Abstract

The purpose of this article is to describe the development of a knowledge-based system that, aided by rules, can support the decision-making processes of the sales department of a company. The knowledge-based system can bring reliability and agility to the decision-making process, and can allow for simulating future scenarios for the company, according to the combined behaviour of key variables. All variables identified in the study have some degree of importance for the decision-making process; they must be analysed together to produce a reliable answer, otherwise, an incorrect decision can emerge, damaging the execution of the company’s strategy. The main contribution of this study is a case report in which a knowledge-based system helped to find an adequate alternative to a business problem in the sales sector of a company in the south of Brazil.

Abstract

Power transmission systems are made up of transmission lines and substations, and the main equipment in a substation are power transformers. Power transformers correspond to about 60% of the total cost of substations and are the most complex, being composed of several thermal, mechanical, electrical, and chemical elements and processes. Due to this complexity, unscheduled shutdowns occur in these transformers, which leads to the need for periodic maintenance and replacement. Within this context, this article proposes a methodology to analyze the costs generated by additional aging in transformers when subjected to an additional load caused by the shutdown of another transformer in the system. The methodology was validated in a case study carried out in a company in southern Brazil. The results show that the cost of unavailability is considerably higher when scheduled outages occur. It should also be noted that the 5 transformers studied are responsible for 93% of the unavailability cost, and the common fact among these is that the average normal load is above 50%. In this sense, it can be concluded that the methodology can assist in decision-making related to the management and maintenance of this critical equipment causing significant economic consequences in the long run. Abstract

The consumption of milk and derivatives is part of the diet of a large part of the population. The substantial demand for dairy products has prompted the industry to expand its product range by incorporating whey, a previously disregarded by-product, as a significant ingredient. Consequently, the application of whey within the dairy sector has escalated, fostering novel food trends driven by market, nutritional, technical, environmental, and economic considerations. In this context, the primary objective of this research was to identify, categorise, and analyse the competitive factors influencing the production and use of whey within the dairy products industry and to correlate these factors with Brazil's economic, food, and nutritional landscape. A comprehensive literature review encompassing 41 articles and scientific documents sourced from PubMed, Scopus, and SciELO databases and supplementary research was undertaken to pinpoint these factors. A total of seventeen competitive factors that exert influence over the production and use of whey within the dairy industry were identified. These seventeen factors were systematically classified and modelled into a hierarchical decision tree structure. A meticulous analysis of these factors revealed a spectrum of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats associated with this sector, considering the Brazilian nutritional, food, and economic context. This research will help elaborate healthy strategies for developing new products with whey in the composition and maintaining the nutritional quality for the consumer. In addition, the research can help companies manage their operations, which can be directed towards improving their performance in the factors discussed in this research, with reflections and impacts on competitiveness in nutritional, environmental, economic, technological, and organisational dimensions. Abstract

The energy sector is going through a transition process regarding the generation, distribution, storage and use of energy. This transition of energy systems has occurred through the evolution of these systems that were previously characterized as being totally centralized, passing through a decentralized modality, and with the technological evolutionary directions pointing to a completely flexible and dynamic modality. This flexible and dynamic modality becomes known in the literature through terms such as Energy Cloud, Energy 4.0, and Smart Energy. The insertion of this modality is driven by three vectors: the distributed generation of energy from renewable sources, electric vehicles, and energy storage systems. Considering this evolution of energy systems, it is relevant to carry out research related to management on the development and implementation of business environments based on the Energy Cloud concept. Therefore, this research had as general objective to propose a framework for integrated management and assessment of technical, economic, financial, environmental and organizational aspects aiming at the development and implementation of Energy Cloud environments. To achieve this objective, the research was developed through five scientific articles designed to study specific points that contribute to achieving the general objective. Considering the three vectors that drive the evolution of Energy Cloud, first aspects that characterize the ecosystem were studied, such as the players, elements, activities and basic requirements of Energy Cloud as a business modality. In a second moment, the performance objectives to be pursued by companies included in the Energy Cloud were researched, as well as what are the critical success factors that can be considered as limiting the business. Afterwards, the scientific subsidies obtained were structured in a framework for diagnosis and management of Energy Cloud Communities environments, exemplifying the use of this framework to understand the specificities necessary for organizations that operate in this type of business. Methodologically, the research was developed based on bibliographic and documental research, survey with specialists in related areas, multicriteria decision support methods, and algorithms for knowledge construction. This research seeks to contribute through the definition of the ecosystem of Energy Cloud business environments and the elaboration of a management framework where the variables are structured to assist in the management and decisionmaking for organizations operating in the different areas that make up the Energy Cloud. This framework provides a multilevel view of variables, aggregating different multicriteria analysis methods and enabling a comprehensive view of the objectives, constraints, challenges and opportunities in the Energy Cloud Communities environment. O setor de energia está passando por um processo de transição com relação à geração, distribuição, armazenamento e utilização da energia. Esta transição dos sistemas de energia tem ocorrido através da evolução desses sistemas que anteriormente caracterizavam-se como sendo totalmente centralizados, passando por uma modalidade descentralizada, e com os direcionamentos evolutivos tecnológicos apontando para uma modalidade completamente flexível e dinâmica. Esta modalidade flexível e dinâmica passa a ser conhecida na literatura através de termos como por exemplo Energy Cloud, Energy 4.0 e Smart Energy. A inserção desta modalidade é impulsionada através de três vetores: a geração distribuída de energia de fontes renováveis, os veículos elétricos e os sistemas de armazenamento de energia. Considerando esta evolução dos sistemas de energia, torna-se relevante a realização de pesquisas relacionadas à gestão sobre o desenvolvimento e implementação de ambientes de negócios enquadrados no conceito da Energy Cloud. Portanto, esta pesquisa teve como objetivo geral propor um framework para gestão e avaliação integrada dos aspectos técnicos, econômicos, financeiros, ambientais e organizacionais visando o desenvolvimento e a implementação dos ambientes de Energy Cloud. Para alcançar este objetivo a pesquisa desenvolveu-se através de cinco artigos científicos projetados para estudar pontos específicos que contribuem para o atingimento do objetivo geral. Considerando os três vetores que impulsionam a evolução da Energy Cloud, primeiramente foram estudados aspectos que caracterizam o ecossistema como os players, os elementos, as atividades e os requisitos básicos da Energy Cloud enquanto modalidade de negócios. Em um segundo momento foram pesquisados os objetivos de performance a serem perseguidos pelas empresas inseridas na Energy Cloud, e também quais são os fatores críticos de sucesso que podem ser considerados como limitantes nos negócios. Na sequência os subsídios científicos obtidos foram estruturados em um framework para diagnóstico e gestão de ambientes de Comunidades Energy Cloud, exemplificando a utilização do framework de modo a compreender as especificidades necessárias às organizações que atuam nesta modalidade de negócios. Metodologicamente a pesquisa se desenvolveu amparada em pesquisas bibliográficas, documentais, survey com especialistas nas áreas correlatas, métodos multicritérios de apoio à decisão e algoritmos para construção do conhecimento. Esta pesquisa buscou contribuir através da definição do ecossistema dos ambientes de negócios da Energy Cloud e da elaboração de um framework de gestão onde as variáveis estão estruturadas de forma a auxiliar na gestão e tomada de decisão para as organizações que atuam nos diferentes segmentos que compõem a Energy Cloud. Este framework proporciona uma visão multinível com relação às variáveis, agregando diferentes métodos de análise multicritérios e possibilitando uma visão abrangente dos objetivos, limitantes, desafios e oportunidades no ambiente das Comunidades Energy Cloud.

Abstract

This study aims to present a scientometric analysis, based on author’s network maps, to determine the most influential and relevant authors with papers published about the subject Small- and medium-sized enterprises, competitiveness and its measurement, including the use of key performance indicators. Academic research relies on the prospection to retrieve the most relevant research studies and establishing links to authors from key international research groups. To facilitate this study, we used the Scopus and Web of Science databases research results, due to the significant number of indexed scientific articles. The extracted data were compiled and analysed through author’s networks using the statistical software Sci2 Tool, which supports temporal, geospatial, topical, and networks analysis. This study also attempts to point out the research trends and gaps in this area. Results obtained are illustrated by maps of author’s networks that reveal the main authors and research subject groups, thereby enhancing access to information from a scientific approach. Este estudio tiene como objetivo presentar un análisis cientométrico, basado en mapas de redes de autores, para determinar los autores más influyentes y relevantes con trabajos publicados sobre el tema Pequeñas y medianas empresas, la competitividad y su medición, incluido el uso de indicadores clave de rendimiento. La investigación académica se basa en la prospección para recuperar los estudios de investigación más relevantes y establecer vínculos con autores de grupos de investigación internacionales clave. Para facilitar este estudio, utilizamos los resultados de la investigación de las bases de datos Scopus y Web of Science, debido a su número significativo de artículos científicos indexados. Los datos extraídos fueron compilados y analizados a través de redes de autores utilizando el software estadístico Sci2 Tool, que es compatible con el análisis temporal, geoespacial, tópico y de redes. Este estudio también intenta señalar las tendencias de investigación y las brechas en esta área. Los resultados obtenidos se ilustran mediante mapas de redes de autores, que revelan los principales autores y grupos de temas de investigación, mejorando así el acceso a la información de una manera científica.

Abstract

O futebol brasileiro movimenta a economia e, quanto mais acirrados os jogos, maior o interesse dos torcedores em comparecer. Com o objetivo de propor um novo modelo de ordenação da classificação do Campeonato Brasileiro de Futebol aplicou-se o método ordinal Condorcet e o método de superação Elimination et Choix Traduisant la Réalité (Electre II). Para a análise econômica e financeira dos times utilizou-se o método não paramétrico Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). Utilizou-se os softwares WebPROA, J-ELECTRE e OSDEA. O Electre II se mostrou mais eficaz do que o Condorcet. Através do método DEA pode-se analisar que vários clubes tiveram sua eficiência financeira em posição diferente da ordenação através dos resultados em campo. Comprova-se que nem sempre o clube com melhores resultados em campo possui a melhor eficiência financeira e clubes com grandes recursos financeiros não obrigatoriamente apresentaram os melhores resultados em campo., Brazilian football moves an economy and, the more fiercely, the greater interest of fans in appearing. With the objective of proposing a new classification model of the Brazilian Football Championship, the Condorcet ordinary method was applied and the method of overcoming Elimination et Choix Traduisant la Réalité (Electre II) was applied. For an economic and financial analysis of the clubs, the non-parametric Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method was used. WebPROA software was used, J-ELECTRE and OSDEA. The Electre II proved to be more effective than the Condorcet. Through the DEA method one can analyze that several clubs had their own economy in different position from the ordering by results in the field. It has been proven that the club with the best results in the field is not always better financially and clubs with large financial resources do not necessarily have the best results in the field.

Abstract

The sustainability context has received great attention considering the aspects of the current market. In this context, the objective of this paper is to evaluate sustainable alternatives under the perspective of restaurant managers in a federal university in Brazil. Using alternatives focused on sustainability in restaurants, an evaluation under the perspective of different managers to determine the alternatives that stand out the most in the sense of boosting restaurants' sustainability was established. Data referring to the alternatives were obtained from restaurant managers, and the best sustainable alternatives were ranked using the fuzzy TOPSIS method. The results showed that the best alternatives were the correct destination and disposal of burnt cooking oil as well as the reduction of food waste. It was also possible to verify that the restaurants are developing good sustainable practices, and with the results, this paper can offer subsidies about sustainability alternatives for restaurant managers.
