International audience; Random coincidences of events could be one of the main sources of background in the search for neutrino-less double-beta decay of $^{100}$Mo with macro-bolometers, due to their modest time resolution. Scintillating bolometers as those based on Li$_2$MoO$_4$ crystals and employed in the CROSS and CUPID experiments can eventually exploit the coincident fast signal detected in a light detector to reduce this background. However, the scintillation provides a modest signal-to-noise ratio, making difficult a pile-up pulse-shape recognition and rejection at timescales shorter than a few ms. Neganov-Trofimov-Luke assisted light detectors (NTL-LDs) offer the possibility to effectively increase the signal-to-noise ratio, preserving a fast time-response, and enhance the capability of pile-up rejection via pulse shape analysis. In this article we present: a) an experimental work performed with a Li$_2$MoO$_4$ scintillating bolometer, studied in the framework of the CROSS experiment, and utilizing a NTL-LD; b) a simulation method to reproduce, synthetically, randomly coincident two-neutrino double-beta decay events; c) a new analysis method based on a pulse-shape discrimination algorithm capable of providing high pile-up rejection efficiencies. We finally show how the NTL-LDs offer a balanced solution between performance and complexity to reach background index $\sim$$10^{-4}$ counts/keV/kg/year with 280~g Li$_2$MoO$_4$ ($^{100}$Mo enriched) bolometers at 3034 keV, the Q-value of the double-beta decay, and target the goal of a next generation experiment like CUPID.

We report on the development of scintillating bolometers based on lithium molybdate crystals containing molybdenum depleted in the double-$\beta$ active isotope $^{100}$Mo (Li$_2$$^{100\textrm{depl}}$MoO$_4$). We used two Li$_2$$^{100\textrm{depl}}$MoO$_4$ cubic samples, 45 mm side and 0.28 kg each, produced following purification and crystallization protocols developed for double-$\beta$ search experiments with $^{100}$Mo-enriched Li$_2$MoO$_4$ crystals. Bolometric Ge detectors were utilized to register scintillation photons emitted by the Li$_2$$^{100\textrm{depl}}$MoO$_4$ crystal scintillators. The measurements were performed in the CROSS cryogenic set-up at the Canfranc underground laboratory (Spain). We observed that the Li$_2$$^{100\textrm{depl}}$MoO$_4$ scintillating bolometers are characterized by excellent spectrometric performance ($\sim$3--6 keV FWHM at 0.24--2.6 MeV $\gamma$'s), moderate scintillation signal ($\sim$0.3--0.6 keV/MeV depending on light collection conditions) and high radiopurity ($^{228}$Th and $^{226}$Ra activities are below a few $\mu$Bq/kg), comparable to the best reported results of low-temperature detectors based on Li$_2$MoO$_4$ with natural or $^{100}$Mo-enriched molybdenum content. Prospects of Li$_2$$^{100\textrm{depl}}$MoO$_4$ bolometers for use in rare-event search experiments are briefly discussed., Comment: Prepared for submission to MDPI Sensors; 16 pages, 7 figures, and 3 tables

The CROSS experiment is proposing to use a new technology of surface sensitive bolometers for low-background neutrinoless double beta decay searches. Efficient rejection of surface α and β events will allow to reach background in the region of interest below than 10−4 cnts/keV/kg/yr. The isotopes of interest, which are 130Te and 100Mo, are investigated with TeO2 and Li2MoO4 bolometers. The surface sensitivity is achieved thanks to the evaporation of thin metallic film on the crystal surface that modifies the pulse shape of near-surface events. An investigation of various pulse shape parameters was performed. The analysis shows that one of the best parameters for discrimination is the integrated area of the raw signal both for TeO2 and Li2MoO4 with Pd-Al (10 nm - 100 nm) bi-layer.

Physics ,QC1-999 - Abstract
A study of hot Giant Dipole Resonance (GDR) in nuclei of mass A=120~130 in an excitation energy range from 150 to 330 MeV, where the GDR quenching is expected to arise, has been undertaken using the MEDEA multi-detector system. Hot nuclei were populated using complete and incomplete fusion reactions. The characterization of hot system was performed through the study of residue time of flight combined with the analysis of light charged energy spectra detected in coincidence. Gamma-ray energy spectra show an evolution of the GDR main features both in terms of width and multiplicity. Evidences of a saturation of gamma multiplicity appear at high excitation energy at variance with predictions of statistical model calculations. Gamma-ray energy spectra can been reproduced in a phenomenological way introducing in the statistical model a sharp suppression of the gamma-ray emission above E* = 240 MeV. A comparison of experimental data to models describing the GDR disappearance will be presented.

[PHYS.NEXP]Physics [physics]/Nuclear Experiment [nucl-ex] - Abstract
International audience; The direct component of the 60Fe(n,γ)61Fe cross section was investigated by populating the bound states of the 61Fe nucleus through the (d,pγ) transfer reaction in inverse kinematics using a radioactive beam of 60Fe at 27A MeV. The experiment was performed at GANIL using the MUST2 array and an annular double-sided silicon strip detector for the detection of the light charged particle in coincidence with the photons measured in the EXOGAM γ-ray detectors. For the first time, the spectroscopic factors of the first 3/2−, 5/2−, 1/2−, and 9/2+ states of 61Fe were deduced experimentally from an adiabatic distorted wave approximation analysis of the data. The obtained results show a very good agreement with the shell-model predictions. The calculated direct component of the (n,γ) cross section was found negligible and of about 2% of the total, indicating a dominant resonant component.

Expérience GANIL/SPIRAL; The quenching of the N = 20 shell gap in neutron-rich nuclei is investigated by studying the single-particle structure of 27Ne via neutron transfer using a 26Ne beam. Two low-lying negative-parity intruder states have been observed, the lowest of which is identified as J π = 3/2−, confirming earlier speculations. A level identified as 7/2− is observed higher in energy than the 3/2−, contrary to the ordering at β-stability and at an energy significantly different from the predictions of previous shell-model calculations. The measured energies and deduced spectroscopic factors are well reproduced in full (0,1)-¯hω 0s-0p-0d-1s-0f -1p calculations in which there is a significant ad hoc reduction (∼ 0.7 MeV) in the N = 20 shell gap.

Expérience GANIL; International audience; It has been shown that the neutron 2d5=2 orbital has to be included in shell-model calculations to explain the large quadrupole collectivity observed in the Fe and Cr of N = 40 region, probably a new island of inversion similar to the one known for light nuclei around N = 20. Indeed, in these calculations using a large valence neutron space, the position, i.e. the singleparticle energy, of the 2d5=2 orbital is a crucial ingredient. The experiment discussed in this paper aims to determine the $\nu$1g9=2–$\nu$2d5=2 gap using the neutron stripping reaction d(68Ni; p)68Ni which has been performed at GANIL in inverse kinematics. Preliminary results are presented.

Expérience GANIL/LISE/CATS/MUST2/EXOGAM; International audience; INTEGRAL and RHESSI spacecrafts recently detected the 1.173 and 1.333 MeV gamma-ray lines coming from the 60Fe--60Co--60Ni radioactive decay chain. The long lived isotope 60Fe (T1/2 = 1.5 106y) is believed to be primarily produced in core-collapse supernovae. However the interpretation of the observations is difficult because of the large uncertainties concerning 59Fe(n,gamma)60Fe and 60Fe(n,gamma)61Fe cross sections, involved in 60Fe nucleosynthesis. The direct component of the 60Fe(n,gamma)61Fe reaction was studied indirectly via the d(60Fe,pgamma)61Fe transfer reaction. The experiment performed in GANIL in spring 2009 will allow to determine the excitation energies of the populated excited states of 61Fe and for the first time their spectroscopic factors as well as their transfer angular momentum.I will first give an overview of the astrophysical context, then I will describe the experimental setup and finally present some preliminary results of the ongoing analysis.

[PHYS.NEXP]Physics [physics]/Nuclear Experiment [nucl-ex] - Abstract
The nucleosynthetic origin of 26Al (t1/2=0.72 Myr) in the early solar system is still an open question. Several models predict that short-lived radionuclides could be produced by irradiation of circumsolar material by light charged particles emitted by the young sun. Within some models, most of the 26Al is produced by 3He-induced reactions on 24Mg. Little experimental data exist on 3He reactions so that irradiation models have had to rely on theoretical cross sections deduced from statistical nuclear reaction codes. We performed a direct measurement of the 26Al production on Mg target by means of gamma ray spectroscopy and accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS). The data indicate that the theoretical cross section used in previous approaches was overestimated by a factor of 3. Taking the particle spectra considered in theoretical approaches these data lead to a net reduction of the 26Al production of a factor of 2. We calculated the relative contribution of the different 26Al production channels depending on the irradiation scenario. We show that extremely large particles fluxes would be necessary to reach the canonical 26Al/27Al =5×10-5 in solids that were present in the early solar system. An in situ origin of this important isotopic chronometer by irradiation is unlikely.

Accepetd for publication in Physical Review Letters; Angular distributions for 1n- and 2n-transfer are reported for the 6He + 65Cu system at Elab = 22.6 MeV. For the first time, triple coincidences between particles, neutrons and characteristic rays from the target-like residues were used to separate the contributions arising from 1n- and 2n-transfer. The differential cross sections for these channels, elastic scattering, and fusion were analyzed using a Coupled Reaction Channels approach. The large measured ratio of the 2n/1n cross section and the strong influence of 2n-transfer on other channels indicate that the di-neutron configuration of 6He plays a dominant role in the reaction mechanism.

NIM NESTER; We report on experimental and theoretical efforts designed to understand the fragmentation of small carbon clusters. Experimentally, a new detection system for high velocity fragments has been recently developed allowing the fragmentation of high velocity clusters to be totally recorded [CITE]. Results for the branching ratios of deexcitation of C 5 and C 9 formed by electron capture in high velocity C 5+, C 9+ + He collisions are presented. Theoretically, the dissociation dynamics of C 5 has been investigated using a kinematical model based on the statistical theory of Weisskopf. In this model various structural quantities (geometries, dissociation energies, harmonic frequencies), are required for both the parent cluster and the fragments. They have been calculated within DFT and coupled-cluster formalisms for C n up to n=9. In all cases, a strong correlation between measured branching ratios and calculated dissociation energies is observed.
