Background: Huntington’s disease is an inherited autosomal dominant trait neuro-degenerative disorder caused by changes (mutations) of a gene called huntingtin (htt) that is located on the short arm (p) of chromosome 4, CAG expansion mutation. It is characterized by unusual movements, cognitive and psychiatric disorders. Objective: This review was undertaken to apprehend biological pathways of Huntington’s disease (HD) pathogenesis and its management by nature-derived products. Natural products can be lucrative for the management of HD as it shows protection against HD in pre-clinical trials. Advanced research is still required to assess the therapeutic effectiveness of the known organic products and their isolated compounds in HD experimental models. Summary: Degeneration of neurons in Huntington’s disease is distinguished by progressive loss of motor coordination and muscle function. This is due to the expansion of CAG trinucleotide in the first exon of the htt gene responsible for neuronal death and neuronal network degeneration in the brain. It is believed that the factors such as molecular genetics, oxidative stress, excitotoxicity, mitochondrial dysfunction, neuroglia dysfunction, protein aggregation, and altered UPS leads to HD. The defensive effect of the natural product provides therapeutic efficacy against HD. Recent reports on natural drugs have enlightened the protective role against HD via antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiapoptotic, and neurofunctional regulation.

Wound occurs due to disruption of soft tissues that results from injury. Recently many medicinal plants have been demonstrated for wound healing potential through in vivo and in vitro preclinical models and their mechanisms of wound healing has also been reported. Medicinal plants have been reported to show wound healing potential via angiogenesis, activation of NF-κB, favoring pro-inflammatory cytokines, increased expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and alpha 1 type 1 collagen, and anti-oxidant activity. Thus, in this review, an attempt was made to give an insight into the recently reported medicinal plants with wound healing mechanisms which could be beneficial in therapeutic practice and development of new wound healing drugs for human use.

The effect of ethanol extract of fruits of Sechium edule on antiepileptic and central nervous system (CNS) depressant model was studied in rats. The extract (200 mg/kg body weight, orally) significantly reduced the duration of various phases of convulsions in both MES-induce seizures and in PTZ-induced convulsion. In CNS depressant model, the locomotor activity was also decreased in a dose dependent manner as compared to control group the extract and the rota rod test revealed a significant loss of muscular coordination.

The goal of this study was to see ethanolic extract of Ipomoea staphylina leaves could protect rats from D-GalN/LPS-induced AHF. Five groups (n=6) of male Wistar rats were created. Group I was given a normal control (1ml/kg); Group II was given D-GalN/LPS; Group III was given D-GalN/LPS + silymarin (100 mg/kg; p.o. ); Group IV was given D-GalN/LPS+ ethanolic extract of I. staphylina (100mg/kg); and Group V was given D-GalN/LPS+ ethanolic extract of I. staphylina (200mg/kg). All animals in groups II-V were given D-GalN/LPS (400mg/kg; and 30g/kg) on the 15 th day after being treated with silymarin or I. staphylina extract for 15 days. Blood was collected from all groups of animals 24 hours after D-GalN/LPS administration to conduct biochemical analysis. The levels of SGOT, SGPT, ALP, GGT and total bilirubin in animals pretreated with the extract were all considerably lower. In addition, the total protein content was considerably greater in the extract-treated mice. The extract led to a considerable decrease in LPO levels as well as a notable increase in SOD, CAT and GSH levels in liver tissue. The extract dramatically lowered TNF-α, IL-6, iNOS, NO and MPO levels in the liver tissue.
